  • Welcome (Bienvenidos) to Neil’s Spanish Fly Box, where we take a look at some of the flies used in Spain and elsewhere.
¿Hola, que tal? En principio, este es un video diseñado para pescadores que entienden inglés, pero por supuesto, ¡cualquiera puede verlos! Si eres un pescador de habla hispana y te gustaría comentar en español, te responderé en español. ¡No seas tímido!
Learn about some new (some, not so new) and interesting fly patterns, that can be found in every Spanish fly fisherman’s armoury, including some ‘must haves’! Real flies for real fly fishers.
I have fly fished in Spanish competitions for over a decade, on rivers and still water, learning a great deal about the Spanish way of fishing and the flies that
    are used.

Great info. Always great to hear how the originators of flies tied theirs. The cocktail stick tick is great.

Hello Michael, great to hear from you as always. Your fellow commenter, Martin, summed up all the ways that this fly can be fished and any one of them can bring you success! The c/t stick is a simple method to ensure that the legs of the fly are equal lengths. Uneven legs can cause all sorts of problems - as I’m sure you can imagine!! 😊

Was wondering which scandalous pattern you had for us! Amazing pattern, and versatile; stripped, static, washing line, bung etc. I've been tying loads of these for my box in various flavours. One wee tip is to seal the ends of the legs with glue to help prevent fraying, these things will see the insides lots of trout mouths so anything to squeeze extra life out each fly seems worth it. Cheers!

Hello Martin good to hear from you. You have highlighted all that the pattern is capable of. I acknowledge your tip, HOWEVER, depending upon the glue, the tips can be ‘burnt’ and thus discoloured. I think when App tied these originally, there wasn’t maybe, the present day types of glues and varnishes available. A dab of uv has the sealing effect. If I’m honest, they cost very little to produce, are quick and easy to tie and those that have frayed on me. have continued to catch fish!!😂 Obviously red and gold/amber are very successful, but I’ve had good fortune with chartreuse also. Thanks for your comment.👍

The wiggly legs are the very devil.

This ‘devil’ does wear Prada though!😂 It’s very fashionable and deserves to be on the catwalk of still water flies, very successful.😉
