- The Three Degrees performing If and When in 1975. The song is from their original album entitled The Three Degrees which was realeased in 1973. I believe this was performed on a TV special in England.

I am so ashamed to say that I've been sleeping on the Three Degrees. These ladies are incredible. Not only beautiful and classy, but I love the harmonizing of this group of ladies. Songbirds I tell you, that's what they sound like.

@@markjackson6134No not behind brownstone they are in a league of their own, and remember they are groundbreakers, icons, a part of Philadelphia International records, TSOP, The sound of Philadelphia,They sang The Soul Train Theme and was treated and received like royalty abroad. They faired so much better like a lot of our entertainers do when they leave the US and go where they are appreciated and loved. Brownstone wasn't even born when they came on the scene. Respect is due. Just saying. Some things people need to keep to themselves better left unsaid

This song provoked such high emotions which were brought forth in their performance. These ladies had the IT factor, even though they did have some success i don't think it was close to what they deserved. I think it had a lot to do with timing. During the 70's girl groups were on the way out and disco was in. They all are still performing with the exception of Fayette, she passed away in 2009.
The Three Degrees had a perfect combination of vocals and performance skills. My dear friend Sheila is still doing her thing in the UK. Looking forward to catching up with her soon.

Though listening to the song the Supremes would do it justice too but they don't have any songs like this in their catalog. The album version is longer with more riffing and prominent background vocals.

I just discovered this group today and I'm dryng my eyes. This was absolute perfection through and through.
The Album version is about 2minutes longer, because the breakdown is longer. It's definitely worth a listen. And the background singing is more prominent. I don't know how I missed this song from back in the day. I didn't find it until about 3yrs ago. And found it only because I looked up Bunny Sigler. He's written some of the best slow jams, The O'Jays and Patti Labelle for instance.

When I first heard this song as a young girl, I was so taken by the dept of the emotions in this song. I felt they expressed my emotions. It is so amazing when artists can do that. Was 13 and at boarding-school, when I first heard this dazzling lament to lost-love, though I was still to experience any of that myself. I'd the cassette of the album and the studio version is about 7 minutes of breathtaking heartbreak. I've played it many times as an adult to exorcise the ache of a failed love, aye! Spectacular song, but the studio version is THE bomb! .
