    great info! problem I have is that often do not have time at a race to glue up tires to match conditions like this, have to just have a variety of tires with us to pick from depending on conditions. Would be difficult to have multiple foam setups and tape or no tape with all of the tread patterns and compounds. I guess that is yet another difference between a pro driver and where we are at. Maybe I am just too slow at cluing tires, lol. Many things that I would never have thought of doing so great video overall!

    • @RyanLutz
      @RyanLutz  Год назад +2

      Yeah I can see that. More about knowing where your going and what the track is like most likely. For instance I knew I was going to S&B and knew it would be high bite, so I can prepare accordingly. As for bigger events where the track changes throughout the weekend, May just have to learn to glue faster. 😁😂
      Thanks for watching and the comment. 👍🏼

      @@RyanLutz so I’ve been using the Jconcepts bands or glueing foams, because people on the internet just say it’s better, but not always fully understanding why.
      I’m now also going to try poking a few holes in the foams for conditions I’m searching for more rear grip. LCRC is my home track, but I’m no where near as fast as you were on the Mugen layout. Friday practice for example we had a ton of traction, the Saturday-Sunday I was searching for more grip and would like to try that then in those conditions.

    • @RyanLutz
      @RyanLutz  Год назад

      JC foams are softer than AKA and also a bit in the smaller size like the smaller one I showed in this video. A more full foam would probably be more beneficial at a higher speed smoother track like LCRC. I bet you would have a better feel with AKA foam at that track. Worth testing if you can get your hands on a set.

    Hey Ryan,
    Have you ever tried to also put a layer of tape between the foam and the tire itself as well ?
    Would that make it even more direct n edgey to drive ?
    Curious what sensations that would be like to drive ?

  • @billdelong
    @billdelong 7 месяцев назад

    great tips!
    Curious if you've ever experienced a cracked wheel when snipping the reinforcement tabs? I'm thinking along the lines of a lexan body where you don't want to have any sharp 90° angles on the cuts. I kind of wonder if a dremel might be a little faster to grind away the plastic while not leaving any sharp edges possibly?
    I once discovered by accident when I dyed some white wheels yellow that boiling the wheel in water made it significantly softer and I had way more grip with the boiled wheels. I'll have to try and compare to see which is more effective between trimming the tabs or boiling now.
    Thanks for all the tips!

    Excellent tips, thank you for making these videos! This one was right on time because I've got some AKA 1/10 truck foams that are "soft", but still a little too firm for me, so I'm gonna try the hole punching.
    I met you at S&B last weekend, but was unable to attend the clinic unfortunately. I did hear that you were running 20 and 30k in your diffs, so maybe you could talk about this witchery in an upcoming video?

    • @RyanLutz
      @RyanLutz  8 месяцев назад

      I don’t usually do the truggy foams.
      But can depend how the track is. Perhaps two 4mm holes in the ribs. Maybe 3
      None of those options is going to make it terrible.

  • @G14tube
    @G14tube 7 месяцев назад

    Would the JC tire Bands be doing the same thing as taping ? I am trying to get my front truggy tires from ballooning. Would I be better off taping or using the bands? Or either one will do the same thing?

    • @RyanLutz
      @RyanLutz  7 месяцев назад +1

      Bands will help from ballooning but still allow some side to side shifting which can provide some forgiveness to initial steering.
      Taping will also help with ballooning but will also make the front be more direct and a bit less forgiving.

      Yes. Mark Pavidis and Gil Losi Jr were tasked for creating a new brand for Kyosho and they chose tires. And as you mentioned named it AKA meaning Red (Also due to Kyosho ‘Red Army’ as the team drivers were called) and Kyosho’s signature red color of course.
