@lukefriggieri8344 remember the reMarkable does NOT include any marker / pen at all, nor does it include any kind of protective case / cover, so to keep the comparison valid those have to be considered. Another thing to consider is the reMarkable has no frontlight and until recently most of the multitude of boox devices are front lit devices. Again considerations to maintain valid comparisons. Most boox devices have an SD card memory expansion capability that reMarkable lacks. Lastly go check out the NEW boox GO 10.3 device, it is an absolute direct competitor to the rm2.

It is because I turn off notifications and, I could say, e-ink screen isn't such hypnotic with contrasts and colours like OLEDs so it isn't such pleasure for animal in us to ditract ourself with something. I hardly use any social media. Only at time I really want and need it like now when I am writing this comment. I use it like tablet/PC but for most of note-taking I have reMarkable.

Don't be fooled; I own several e-ink tablets, including the Boox Ultra Tab C. 150 DPI in color makes it very pixilated. The lack of contrast between the ink and the screen is very noticeable. While I appreciate the Boox for what it can do, if you are reading or writing in black and white, I highly suggest a non-color option with greater contrast and higher resolution. A reMarkable with 300+ dpi and whiter background would be ideal. Even the new reMarkable Paper Pro seems to compromise color for some contrast.

Nah. I owned several Boox devices, still own a LUMI 2, and a year I switched to Remarkable. I sold my boox devices and my LUMI 2 is in a closet.

It’s android so the battery life sucks compared to the kindle. You don’t need android on a e ink device its just don’t work right.

It’s like a trap. It costs more than an iPad. That’s why you should then get an iPad instead.
The cheapest 9th gen iPad can do way better work than this. Just make the screen grayscale with warm tone Siri Shortcuts while reading to get less eye strain. 😊

it’s for writing notes primarily, has a different function than an ipad, yes an ipad is better for most people but ofc it is it’s made by one of the biggest tech giants in the world. people like you don’t know what a niche is

Kindle could come with vendor locking like Remarkable 2. Boox and Lenovo Smart Paper carry a greater element of freedom. However, I agree with you that these eink/ePaper gadgets are overpriced (which makes sense as the trend is over-hyped).

its e ink unlike regular displays e-inks use a fraction of the power only requiring power when the display updates
they also work off reflected light not transmissive which makes them higher contrast and feel more natural when reading them
ask someone with a kindle (the ebook reader not the kindle fire tab) to see it and youll understand better what its like to use e-ink
