@lukefriggieri8344 remember the reMarkable does NOT include any marker / pen at all, nor does it include any kind of protective case / cover, so to keep the comparison valid those have to be considered. Another thing to consider is the reMarkable has no frontlight and until recently most of the multitude of boox devices are front lit devices. Again considerations to maintain valid comparisons. Most boox devices have an SD card memory expansion capability that reMarkable lacks. Lastly go check out the NEW boox GO 10.3 device, it is an absolute direct competitor to the rm2.
I feel like people in the comments here are so dismissive of this tech. It's obviously gonna look laggy because of its e-ink display and it's intended as a reading and writing device, not an iPad replacement with a "worse" screen.

I've had both. prefer the remarkable because of the aesthetics and simplicty. THe boox C has a darker screen btw - and it doesn't look nearly as paperlike. The normal one that isn't colored is better.
Nah the reason I love remarkable is because it doesn't have any apps and is just a paper tablet and nothing else. I already have a smartphone, computer, laptop and an Ipad so why would I buy another device that will just fuel my already bad social media addiction. I bought remarkable so I get rid of it and be able to stay focused on what I am doing
I have this device and it isn't distracting at all for me. I can clearly focus on tasks. It is because I turn off notifications and, I could say, e-ink screen isn't such hypnotic with contrasts and colours like OLEDs so it isn't such pleasure for animal in us to ditract ourself with something. I hardly use any social media. Only at time I really want and need it like now when I am writing this comment. I use it like tablet/PC but for most of note-taking I have reMarkable. It may be also thing of my inner setting with this device and more of a control of my internal triggers tha lead me to distractions. But I would be in sometime taking course to be Indistractable so I can level up.
That's a non issue. The ability to use apps won't make you use the apps because the OS design is about as minimalistic as any other notes/reading focused e-paper device. The refresh rate would keep you from wanting to consume content (other than books) for extended periods anyway.
Exactly. The Remarkable isn't for every one. But for the select that adopt it, it's a beast of a creativity and productivity tool. I love mine. I push through lots of time-bound key projects with the Remarkable. Pure distraction free thinking. 😊

Don't be fooled; I own several e-ink tablets, including the Boox Ultra Tab C. 150 DPI in color makes it very pixilated. The lack of contrast between the ink and the screen is very noticeable. While I appreciate the Boox for what it can do, if you are reading or writing in black and white, I highly suggest a non-color option with greater contrast and higher resolution. A reMarkable with 300+ dpi and whiter background would be ideal. Even the new reMarkable Paper Pro seems to compromise color for some contrast.

nah you spent 600 dollars on a version of paper and then 100 dollars for a pen just to use it that is sad you could've just spent less than 5 bucks on paper, buy a folder, and a pen now completely eliminated the use of the thing if you can keep paper organized with a folder
What's the point in buying this? If you did some research you would find that the bigme inknote color lite costs like 2/3 of the price and still does everything this one does. I mean you don't need that better processor on an e-ink tablet anyway. You also get a fingerprint reader on the bigme, better color accuracy (not the dimming lines you can see on boox) and a pen with more functions.
I have one. But take care, do not put the remarkable together with your laptop in the bag. Putting it together with other devices will cause screen distortion. It creates a magnetic field at the screen that causes your lines to be inaccurate. It's downside why I am considering of returning it. But if you have a separate bag you can carry it in, then you should not experience this issue. Besides this it's truly a amazing device

I believe that the Kindle can get an Amazon premium book sub giving you access ro the amazon library for a monthly fee instead of having go buy every book. But that might be part of amazon premium today, last time I considered a kindle was like in 2012?

Something else you need to mention. Boox is entirely owned by a Chinese corporation. That means back end, they likely can see everything you're doing on it with a single flick of a switch. There's not a damn thing you can do about it. So if you do any sort of creative work, you have to judge that risk of your stuff being stolen.

Kindle could come with vendor locking like Remarkable 2. Boox and Lenovo Smart Paper carry a greater element of freedom. However, I agree with you that these eink/ePaper gadgets are overpriced (which makes sense as the trend is over-hyped).
its e ink unlike regular displays e-inks use a fraction of the power only requiring power when the display updates they also work off reflected light not transmissive which makes them higher contrast and feel more natural when reading them ask someone with a kindle (the ebook reader not the kindle fire tab) to see it and youll understand better what its like to use e-ink

Wrong! You don’t have to have a digital subscription to use the reMarkable tablet. It’s an option.

There is no monthly fee to use a kindle. You pay a monthly fee for access to thousands of books. And I’d say 10$ is a steal for that.
