- Here is the amp dyno video of the next oldschool amplifier made by Rockford Fosgate - the punch 501s!
in this video i tried to find out how they get the 1500 Watts power out of it. They started to print those high wattage numbers on their amps.

They were for sales at circuit city stores and other chain stores that sold amps that displayed peak ratings..they were forced to label with peak rating
I think the last test you did when you got 1521w (peak), is the number that Cheap, No brand amplifiers, use to sell more amps! I think Rockford displayed that bumped up number, to compete with those Cheap amplifiers. A marketing strategy!😊
Yeah, that peak rating is still RMS, if calculated with peak voltage it’s 3000 Watts 😂
I bought this amplifier recently, but it doesn't sound as good as I thought it would! My Punch 150hd amp sounds better, specially the bass. It sounds deeper!
I thought the 501s amp having more power than the Punch 150, would play deeper bass, but it doesn't! Any idea why?? Thanks.😮
@charlesbolano7148 hmm.. it’s linearity is nice. A human ear shouldn’t hear any differences. Were both amps installed in the same car? Different locations create big differences. If both amps were compared in the same car I would check the amp for linearity maybe some capacitors are bad or a failure in filter/EQ circuitry are possible resources of failure. Get a generator app and sweep from 20 to 100Hz and check differences Output.
@@audiokeller1975 They were in the same setting and same tone controls (18db boost at 45hz), when tested. The 501s midrange frequencies sound better, and all around louder. But the Punch 150's bass sounds better and deeper! The Punch 150 is from around 1991 or 92, and the 501s, I think it's from 2002. Maybe that's why they sound different? They're about 10 years apart!
@charlesbolano7148 the 150hd does 20-20.000Hz with a tracking error of just +-1 dB, you won’t hear that error. The 501s is doing the 20-20kHz +- 0.5 dB , if you notice differences you might have alien ears 😀 but I think something is wrong or mismatched!
Okay the 1500 watts for that series of amplifier is stating if you run three of those Daisy chained that was their thing back in the day you could hook three of those amplifiers up together of the power series I believe and run three of them as one

This amp isn’t from the power series, I know the 500M or 250M , there you could link two of them together or the class bd amps. I’ve been told by former Rockford employees that they printed those high numbers to compete with other manufacturers. 😀
