  • Oh, my stars! What do we have here? Why, It’s the magical cast of Bewitched, and of course the ordinary man, Darrin Stephens - all who helped create one of THE most popular and enduring shows in American television history. It spawned dozens of references - we’ve all tried doing the nose twitch - and it raised the bar for television special effect. The show's now-iconic animated opening credits were actually created by "Hanna-Barbera Productions," creators of such beloved 1960's cartoons as The Flintstones and The Jetsons. Audiences everywhere tuned in on Thursday Nights to witness the wonderful mishaps of a nose-twitching witch. Today, We’re going to gaze into the crystal ball of DoYouRemember and catch up with our favorite actors from TV’s Bewitched!
I’m your host Nostalgic Nick and If you enjoy this bewitching rundown, be sure to give it a thumbs up, and don’t forget to subscribe so you always know when we post a new nostalgic rewind. Without further ado, let’s hop on our brooms and fly down memory lane!

Back in the early nineties I was lucky and I do mean really lucky to be Elizabeth Montgomery's assistant and driver on a CBS television film called "With Murder In Mind" while I was living in Atlanta. We spent a wonderful five weeks together and that was one of the best and most intimate experiences I have ever had with an actor. From the first moment I saw her when she stepped off the plane wearing sun glasses and a big straw hat, loose fitting shirt and jeans I was just smitten. She was still incredibly beautiful and gave me that big smile when I introduced myself and she did the same calling herself Lizzie. We hit it off immediately having a wonderful conversation during the one hour ride back the the studio. She was totally down to earth as was her boyfriend Robert Foxworth who would join the cast a week later as her love interest. We really enjoyed each other and I found out much about her that the public nor I never knew. Like the fact that she was a card shark.
Between camera setups or during a break in shooting she would play solitaire and very seriously at that. I asked her to teach it to me one afternoon and she did then asked if I wanted to play poker. Why not? My grandmother taught me how to play as a child. Long story short she wiped me out. With a dead straight face she played me to destitution in five hands. (We were only playing for pennies thank God) Super friendly she called the house several times for one thing or another during the shoot (This in the days before affordable cell phones) and ended up speaking to my mother who was cool but thrilled. I introduced her to my mom who rarely got to meet the actors I was working with and ended up having dinner at the house. She was just terrific.
Because she had so many fans of her portrayal of "Lizzie Bordon" people around the world started sending her axes and she wound up collecting them. I gave her one myself. She told me some neat facts about that film as well like she actually played the murder scenes at least partially in the nude. (From what she told me those scenes were included in the European cut which I think was released theatrically)That was something as she had maintained her beautiful figure the rest of her life. I never usually talk about my crushes on people I've worked with but she made me wish that Bob Foxworth wasn't in her life. He was a really great guy too.) She told me about her very close friendship with Dick Sargent and her involvement in support of him in the LGBT community riding on floats in the Gay Pride parades.
Lizzie ( as she liked to referred by) had these neat little things about her that I loved. One of them was she used a little mint spray bottle to freshen her breath before every scene and I asked her if she had ever tried Mentos. I had recently discovered them as Atlanta was a test market for them. She tried them and fell in love having me send her boxes of them to California after the show. I introduced her to pawn shopping. She asked me one day to buy her a cheap boom box for her trailer and I bought one from a favorite pawn store of mine. She asked me how I found one so cheap and I told her about the store. She had never been to one and wanted to go so on our day off I took her. She bought a few things and was immediately recognized. The staff along with everyone else she met wanted her to do the nose wiggle from her Samantha character and she always did with a smile, taking pictures and signing autographs with not complaints. One evening she and Bob went out for a walk and went across the way from the hotel to a restaurant and bar that wound up being a strip club. They had a great time with many of the girls and bouncers recognizing her and Bob. After returning to L.A. she wrote and told me she has taken up pawn shopping as a new hobby.
She was such a cool person. Deadly serious when working but so sweet and easy going off set. I would give her quick chair massages sometimes during the long shoot days when her neck and shoulders tightened up. I wound up doing a amateur chiropractic move on her having her wrap her arms around herself and picking her up in a big tight hug. Her whole spine crackled and she was incredibly surprised and pleased, mouth agape and amazed. She said "That was just incredible! I feel so much better!"
The whole shoot was like that and it was one of the best times of my professional life. We stayed friends after she went back home and up until her death we wrote and spoke to one another every now and again. I never got to see her again as I didn't make it to L.A. again until after her death but I will always remember that fun spring with new friend until I follow her on that final path as well.
What an actress and what a lady.

That was one hell of a story and I enjoyed it. That must have taken you forever to write down and it must have been an amazing experience. Thank you for the information and being classy about it. Sounds like she was too. I've met a lot of famous people in my time living in New Orleans never spent that much time around 1. The coolest one I ever met with Brad Paisley that's been about half an hour with him talking to him after I explained how I recognized that he wasn't real famous at that point. He was opening for George Strait in New Orleans and came into work out with his crew at the gym I was running called French Riviera. He asked me how come I wasn't at the concert that year and I said well my girlfriend's there with her other boyfriend when she was breaking up with that night and they already had tickets and he set down propped up his feet and said I got to hear this story. He even took pictures and called her on the cell phone. He gave me sign shirts and copies of his albums that were all signed by him and his entire crew. Not only was he one of the nicest people I ever met he was the nicest famous person I ever met by far. I would have given anything for her to meet him.! But let's just say it got me a lot of brownie points anyway. When he called my girlfriend she was still at the concert at door straight and got her voicemail so she was able to listen to recording. He said "hey Shannon this is Brad I'm here with your other boyfriend Brian I would have really liked to have met you but maybe next year on to her take care." That's pretty well word for word. Not something you usually forget. He was the most down-to-earth and cool famous guy I never met and still is by far. Only bad thing about it is I'm not with the girl anymore she is the one that got away. Thank you again for sharing your story.

Oh yes. Someone who commits adultery is definitely a wonderful person. Also I am sick of these celebrities thinking everyone is interested in their political views. Just do your job as an actor or actress and keep your opinions to yourself. Also, letting that get in the way of your relationship with your parents is disgusting. I have different political views than my parents. We both have the right to whatever we believe in. A heart of gold? Why because she marches in gay parades? OK, then....

    • @kerrykeene6471
      @kerrykeene6471 2 года назад +3

First of all, Elizabeth Montgomery didn't go around flaunting her political views. I have a comment from the producer of THE PANAMA DECEPTION who said as much. Secondly, she did much of her charitable work from behind the scenes. She was a very private person.
Bill Asher said, in the 1999 A&E special on E.M., that he blamed himself for their marital breakup. Years later, he told Herbie Pilato, E.M.'s biographer, the same thing. He also told him that he had a roving eye for other women. He was also married four times.
In my view, a person's private life is their own business, unless they cross the abuse line. We have lost so much privacy in this country and world. I think people should look in the mirror before making judgements.
Elizabeth Montgomery had a big heart.

But an earlier excellent performance of Montgomery’s left the strongest memory for me. She starred in an episode of the supernatural series”One Step Beyond” entitled “Death Waltz” . This genuinely sweet lady convincingly portrayed the mean, spoiled daughter of an 1870s general who callously sends her fiancé to his death and ends up dancing to death herself with his ghost. I still get chills when I think of the eerie waltz music they played.

This included films "A Case of Rape " The Legend of Lizzie Borden" "A Killing Affair" with OJ Simpson, "The Awakening Land". A couple of her films were directed by the late Boris Sagal father of Katey Sagal from "Married with Children " and the new show "Rebel".

He starred in over 60 feature films, was twice elected president of the screen actors guild, was nominated for 2 Oscars, and has 2 stars on the Hollywood walk of fame. She may be more well known to modern audiences because Bewitched has been in constant syndication for the past 50 years. Many of her father's films were pre WW2 and are not widely seen anymore.

I think she was my first TV crush as a kid. When she updated her image on Bewitched in the 70s, wow, it kickstarted me through puberty.

Bewitched was a favorite fantasy show. Always wished I had her powers. Wanted to fix things in real life, make life better for everyone. But a fantasy is just that.. a fantasy. So I pray each and every year for peace... That prayer has yet to be answered.

She truly was great even outside her famous t.v. Bewitched. I can still remember her Astounding performance in "A case of rape" when I was a kid. It broke ground and got major acclaim. As was her performance with O.J. Simpson in a later t.v. film. Funny how much radicoulas fuss was made about the interracial love making thier characters put on screen, which also broke ground way back then - but today is not given 2nd thought.Elizabeth Montgomery was Astounding !

You are absolutely right. Elizabeth Montgomery was such a talented actress and her movies were always something to look forward to.

I agreed. As a kid I really liked her personality. My favorite episode was when Tabatha brought out book characters to go trick-or-treating.
