Love it! Two years ago I was supposed to meet the rep in Florida and do a fitting. My schedule got crazy while I was down there so I never got to try it. So cool to see what it can do! Wow!
I enjoy watching Matt swing, but with that little extra shaft flex and the pink on black background... it was as mesmerizing as a Fred Couples swing comp video... that's an accomplishment.

The strike pattern during the run of shots with the Autoflex went from low heel to high toe, almost exactly what TM says their TwistFace©️®️™️ is for. It’s a medium weight head, too, maybe follow up with that combo to see what sort of performance you can extract? SIM or SIM MAX, either one, but I imagine you’d be able to tune SIM better.
I would LOVE to see this testing for a lower swing speed to see the adverse or positive effects it may have on that players swing. Say, a regular dude like me, you know, if you want to shoot a shaft my way....
I hear that Korea has very advanced fishing rod technology, which leads me to believe that Autoflex's secret sauce may be based on that. One of the most interesting videos created by this channel!
They do but alot is copied of very high end Japanese rod designs and materials. This has something else.
Most fishing rod tech is put in with bunch of OEM & ODM by Korean companies to high end Japanese fishing rods brands.

Well said. Always cracks me up when Matt smashes it 300 plus and is disappointed. My only chance of hitting it 300 is if the hole is downhill, downwind and I get a great kick off the cart path, or if I hit it twice..

This reminded me of the Cobra Long Tom that I briefly played, especially the “training aide” thought. After swinging the (48”) Long Tom my regular driver felt more like a fairway wood or even hybrid. The Long Tom was surprisingly good it just isn’t as well rounded a driver these days. I could see myself using it on occasion just to reset things.

I don’t know a thing about the construction of the AUTOFLEX shaft but I do know that lightweight and very flexible shafts do improve clubhead speed and accuracy. Back in the early 80”s at the original PINSEEKER golf company, we were approached by and inventor that had the same concept. He was a pole-vaulting manufacture that asked us to evaluate his shafts. Everyone thought the guy was nuts but agreed to test both woods and irons. We did extensive on-course testing at Mesa Verde C.C.and collected enough data (this was long before launch monitors) to conclude that the concept worked, especially on irons! As I recall, the distance gain was about 8 yards, tighter dispersion, higher launch and more spin on irons and drivers. We used scratch, mid and high handicappers that ALL saw benefits. We knew they were on to something but we passed. Being a hi-tech niche manufacturer we knew we didn’t have the marketing power to change conventional thoughts on speed vs. flex accepted at the time. I believe that several larger companies tested them but the inventor couldn’t get the funding to go into large scale production. Too bad, it did work. I hope the Korean company can pull it off!

GENIUS. THEY HAVE APPLIED NON NEWTONIAN FLUID LIKE FIBERS TO THE SHAFT. There is a type of polymer that does it, I just cant remember the name. Essentially the shaft stiffens proportional to how hard you swing it until you overwhelm it. I think the real benefit is they can make the shaft really light but can normalize any force applied within a certain range to maintain the same resulting shaft flex. The mass of the head is overwhelming what the shaft can account for when you accelerate in transition. Freaking genius (if that's what they did). If not then I just had a multimillion dollar idea.
I wonder if whatever material they use has some degree of recoil and is adding the clubhead speed when head is light enough.

Interesting stuff here. I was a playing golf professional turned plastics (polymer) engineer and back to the golf business, because I’m not a fan of money I suppose. Anyways, almost all polymers are non-newtonian. The acting principle in this theory revolves around polymer orientation. The physics behind this is that the more force applied to polymers the more susceptible the polymer is to orient or “get in line”. Another comment her referenced “ketchup” and this is a good visual. Imagine how we have to get ketchup out of a glass bottle. When we hit the bottle we aren’t pushing the ketchup out we are causing the chains to untangle. This is why the last hit, almost all of the ketchup comes out of the bottle. So, using this principle, the harder someone swings the more the polymer chains orient in a way that increases flex. Well, that is the theory postulated here. With that said, polymer orientation is usually reserved for a liquid state. Once, solidified, the orientation is “locked” in a way. Still, heat or other outside agency can influence the polymers to revert back to its natural tangled state. So, I am not sure how this applies to this concept, but I would say that this theory is directional accurate and at the very least the premise behind the technology. Finally, my failed attempt to be a playing professional leading to having to take a job and learning too much about plastics has paid off in a a very “who cares” long comment on RUclips. I had dreams at one point in my life.
Would love to see the test through multiple different swing speeds, perhaps expect to see the extra speed hold up but really interested in the dispersion side. Thought provoking content as usual guys, much appreciated, thanks

This is craziest test think ive ever seen on here how is this shaft even performin at all for matt i mean id def be intrested to see if got someone with slower swing speed to try it what kinda numbers would they get
totally agree --- Matty just delivers the club almost perfectly at high speed. Maybe get a single-digit handicapper in there w/ about 100 mph speed, and maybe another one at about a 15-handicap and see before and after results. It would be a lot more telling if there's a big difference or not. For me, going from a 240-250 yard carry to about 260-270 would be HUGE. And i wouldn't hit it far enough to reach trouble anyway :)

Yea i swing comfortably 95mph could push it to 100 but not near as controlled. This is mitch not tiffany lol can't get wifes name off chat. But i love this channel its like watchin a human robot. Bet matt could hit an origanl big bertha from 90s 300 yards
They have lighter shafts SF405 for slower swing speed. They also have SF405X for those that need extra boost at the same weight. I think they weight like 41g
I usually play a 55 to 60 gram stiff flex id prob use th 50 gram one

Mattyboi swings it at his slowest say 120 with his normal shaft, and a maximum of 130+ with the autoflex,
10mph is massive and you really cant ignore that, definitely more testing needed.
Interesting. My guess is in the carbon fiber weave. I have seen applications of antheraea pernyi silk fiber and carbon fiber combined into a composite to increase stiffness under a torque load. The thought behind that technology is that the silk will react to the amount of torque applied. Couple that with an epoxy core and you might be onto something. Hard to say if this is what they have done without cutting the shaft and examining it.
If they are not using silk they they have applied another similar material to accomplish the similar properties.

Random speculation on the "Korean Hidden Technology". I wonder if it's some kind of visco-elastic material like Silly Putty. Under low force it's flexible but under high force it become more rigid. That's why SP stretches when you pull slowly but breaks when you pull fast.

first that was something similar to what you get in the new Bridgestone balls (higher swing speed produces less spin, lower swing more spin). My mind cant handle the idea of golf shaft marketing including "non-Newtonian" in the description and not being some made up BS.

Pretty interesting. I remember messing around with a material in engineering classes in college that got stiffer when you applied a force to it. We made a rod that got stiff when you swing it fast but softer when you swing it slow. I don't remember the name of the material. The military was looking into the same material to armour tanks and Humvees for IEDs. I'd like to know more about the shaft but their website doesn't work.

This has taught me 1 thing. You cannot just go buy a driver with whatever shaft it comes with and get your best out of it. You need to be fitted for what is best for you to perform at your best. You guys look like you are the best at this.
Before the Autoflex there was the Autopower shaft. Made by the same company in korea. I own one the black 7x. Has multiple wins on the Asian tours. It would be cool if you guys did an Autopower vs Autoflex.

Would be fun to see you guys compare these shafts to Tiger's old x100 steel shaft. I'd like to see those comparison numbers, so we can see how big a difference there is between the new graphite shafts and the year 1995 standard.

What Matt alluded to about hitting it worse the more he hit it is familiar to me. I’ve always struggled with lightweight equipment, especially as I get loosened up and more comfortable. It’s a shame, because 20 yards extra carry is 😳 . I’d love to give it a go, but I’m not good enough to be able to handle the lightweight stuff.

There is surely something there....testing, and more testing is indeed the order of the day. With all that said, when did Matty start hitting this club given all the testing you guys conducted the day of these events? Hence, before or after the best driver tests; the ShalAlange, etc etc..

According to a person who is in charge of engineering development at Dumina who is also one of founder of the company, claiming that they have jointly developed a new material with KICET (Korean Institute of Ceramic & Engineering Technology) to be exclusively used only for Dumina. A new material used in making shaft that includes mixed materials of titanium, boron and something else which is hidden behind the Korean technology.

Reminds me of the D3O material in head youtek tennis rackets. A little bit like a non nucleic liquid that hardens with harder impacts and flexes with softer impacts
The fact that you can just pick it up hit good, go to a different club come back and hit it good again.. maybe auto flex is designed for just that hit your tee shot, hit your iron/wedges and come back to driver so it’s easy to hit🤔 more speed and good accuracy since you basically never gonna hit two drivers consecutively.

I bought one and can attest to a 10-15 yard pick up. Swing speed prior to Autoflex: 96MPH. After 101 MPH. Huge huge fan.

Great work to show that at least there is "something" there. This isn't Hammer X sword shaft stuff, but some kind of real technology. From what I've heard, the Korean company behind it is no joke either.

It would be a huge plus if you guys could promote and talk about how much a fit club can improve strike from Driver to PW. You both have the proof of the benefits, can you talk about why all golfers need to be fit and how much it can sharpen contact and tighten that pattern off the face. IF you want speed, it comes with strike versus anything else.

On their site they show just the CPM ( 210 ) of the “stiff” model indicating for a swingspeed of 95-120 mph , but they have X and XX model also , I’d like to see the choice of a 100 mph swingspeed player, because for 750 dollars + expeditions and eventually taxes without a fitting is an hard choice . Stiff or X ? A stiff can be tip cut to obtain more CPM .

Would love to see this in a lower weight with a slower swing speed. Also does the lighter shaft weight make the head feel heavier? I know you said the OEM says to try and keep it at D1 or D2 but wouldn’t most clubs today be close to that with 60 or 70ish gram shafts they come with?
Went back and watched the old F9 fitting video and Matty was hitting higher ball speeds with the F9. Would be interested to see the combo of F9 and autoflex.
You guys need to test this on the course for real results. Even though its stupid expensive, it definitely performs, and I am very curious to see it on the course also.
I'd love to see a direct comparison between this and an actual senior flex/xxio shaft.
As an Asian I can give you a hint.. cornstarch sprinkled in with a touch of msg.

I think if its a good cold swing club it would work really well around the course. Hit it put it away for your next couple shots then get back to it on the next hole.

looks like i’m a little late to the game! until this morning i never knew these auto and free flex shafts even existed. would love to see how this performs with a little lower swing speed in the 100-105mph area. it would have to be a major improvement to spend that kind of money on a shaft
OK. OK, we have to see Ronnie swing one of these. I'd be dead keen to see if a slower swing speed got the same advantages (+5 mph ch speed and 20 yards) without the disadvantage of the worsened dispersion (on the basis that a given degree of off-line-ness means less wayward over a shorter distance). Please, please ask Ronnie to give it a go.
Recently I saw Joe miller LD guy saying that the new LD shafts are nowhere near as stiff as they used to have to be. Interesting!
