"I'm always on my best behaviour, Mr. Stone." That would depend on one's definition of behaviour.
Her behaviour was impeccable. Quiet, polite...It was her morals and what she cared about that was deplorable.
There is this "blink and you miss it" look on Ben Stone's face at 6:32 where you can tell he is amused by her and possibly even a little relieved that he convinced her that she had in fact done something wrong.
I'm actually happy that he managed to do that literally. Managed to prove too in a different way that dreams don't come true and it's not worth it. Way to go Kaplan university again. 👏
Can the older seasons be put on peacock? I love Ben Stone as a DA
Ohh same here !!! I’m with you on this one ☝️
I was very disappointed that those early episodes were not on Peacock. That was the reason I bought it in the first place.
I actually asked the network and they said they alternate between the early and later seasons.
If they can upload EVERY SVU season, they can certainly upload all of seasons for L&O!
You can find some of them in daily motion coz that’s where I watched this episode
I’d even buy them on here.
Its a cold game. People will use you like merchandise and throw you out like a piece of garbage when you serve your purpose. Its a cruel world out here .
great ending and music in this. I love the old seasons. By far the best.
6:50 this is the same courthouse shot that has been part of the title sequence all these years, right?
You are correct.
Interesting to see how they were working out the formula for the series. Feels a bit 80’s versus 90’s here in atmosphere. They also hadn’t built out the courtroom set yet, blank walls and lighting a bit off. But was cool to see Patricia Clarkson’s character- keeps you guessing and entertained.
They actually shot inside a real courtroom for the first five seasons. This scene was shot inside one of the rooms of the Tweed Courthouse
That jury's face at 5:56 tells the story
the original Law and order was the best of the various flavors. I kinda got tired of SVU.
Dude they need to go back to those awesome jazz renditions of the song.
fun fact: She plays 'Claire' in the sitcom Frasier. I recognize that voice from anywhere, so seducing.
Which one
1000 men in 18 months? She must have very good time managing skills.
That's about 2 -3 per day if she took weekends off.
like 55 or so a month sheesh
Nah it's possible. 2 to 3 day and that's taking time off when she has her period.
I bet she made a lot of money.
Was the money she made worth the sentence of death she got from catching aids.
Blatant disregard for human life, similar to the Junk Food industry.
blatant disregard for human life !? When you go to a prostitute ' you ' put your life and reputation at risk .
Don't blame others , if there is no demand no one will bother to supply .
I recognize her, she played in Maze Runner :)
I remember this episode. I think the character of the high society madam was based on Sidney Biddell Barrows who was dubbed "The Mayflower Madam" by the newspapers.
Nice
Poor Jolene, she ended up with a delayed death-sentence.
Are jurors allowed to talk to reporters after the fact like that??
Generally, yes, after the trial ends.
Jurors can talk to the media (generally), and disclose their own thoughts and opinions; they just can’t discuss the details of the jury deliberations
the jury never reached a verdict, the defense took a plea deal.
Before SVU this one gonna big potential !
The early seasons of L&O were way better.
I agree. They really pack the new ones with morals.
@@tvdinner325 And wokeism
Totally agree
6:49 Anyone know the Law and Order short music track playing here?
0:41 did they forget to pay the electric bill that month?
I would have thrown the book at her. Blatant disregard for life; and an abundance of arrogance.
But she is: white, elegant, millionaire, well connected, female, and gorgeous, Will you risk acquittal? also, she appears to become aware of the cruelty of her action, or she is a pretty good actress, underscoring the first point in both cases.
@@jaimeduncan6167 She doesn't give a tuppence, the snot.
Think there's still some tread left on the tire?
Ouch!
She is better than her lawyer
I hate that the lawyers are to lenient
Hi Maria
WERE THE JOHNS BEFORE OR AFTER SHE KNEW SHE HAD CONTACTED HIV?
why does it look like someone vaped in that court room?
Yeah it does 🤣🤣
Loool it's like the room been vaped
The pollution in those days was off the charts
2:28 U cant testify about someone health . They could have lied.
where is this courtroom, in a refurbished barn? i say this because i have been in a barn turned into an opera house and it legit had walls and floors just like this and it is kinda janky looking.
lmao this has me weak, good observation
it’s very early in the show, chances are there might to as been as much funding for the show as there is in later seasons
I heard someone use the word "janky" today. I thought I was the only one who used or heard thst term. 🤔 😅
This is inside one of the courtrooms in the Tweed Courthouse. Back in the early seasons of L&O, they filmed inside actual courthouses before building one on set
@@ItsGooseIsland oooohhhhhh that sounds so coool. it does give it that whole rural Massachusetts feel to it too. 😀
And Lennie Brisco!
Even today (2024), most medical insurance does not pay for much, if any, psychotherapy. I can't imagine that early 90s insurance did.
So you help them staying with jerks…lol
Perfect example of our justice system
Games and deals
It may be a prostitution ring but it brings to mind large corporations with "acceptable losses" in terms of workers and customers.
Editing of this episode is grounds for appeal. After the question posed at 5:12, check out the next shot of the judge. It's pretty clear he's just taken what we'll call a "personal interest" in this case and should have recused himself. You just know that after banging his gavel he went straight to the clinic.
Yes indeed. I was also noticing how Stone's voice started shaking with anger, sounding almost as if he was about to cry.
Or the question just never occurred to anyone in the courtroom except Stone - which is why it damned the defendant and piqued everyone's interest, the judge included.
@@rsybing No. I stand by the suspicion that the judge has been cavorting with prostitutes.
She makes a plea agreement, so probably not…
What year is this clip?
Season one
1990 (11/13/90 to be exact)
The working girls from Coburg, Melbourne go through that many in a month
I didn't know that Old Man Schiff knew how to laugh. I always saw him as old and worn out, devoid of visual affect.
He had his moments. I mean, you have to kind of give him a bit of a break, managing all his juniors and D.A.s was basically like trying to manage a high-profile daycare. One could imagine the stress.
Remember also, his character had a wife that was dealing with health problems, at least toward the end of his time on the series. I believe she died.
First to comment lol thank god. Love the older seasons of this series
Nice on ya man
Why are you thanking God for being the first to comment? Is being first some kind of achievement, or something? I don't understand why people get some kind of validation, and feel like they achieved something from being the first to comment on a RUclips video. Is it really that much of an accomplishment? Most comments I see of people saying they were first to comment on a video, they just comment they were first, and comment NOTHING about the video. What is the purpose? People just sit around, waiting for RUclips notifications that state a video has been uploaded, just so they can be the first to comment on the video, but the comment has nothing to do with the video, or what it's about, just that they were first to comment? Wow. I know it sounds like I'm making too much of this, but I really want to know about this "I have to be the first to comment on a video, but my comment is only me stating I was first to comment, and not about the actual video," phenomenon. Lol!
@@JenX_1973 its more likely that it is someone being ironic. Since they used a ; mid sentence which is not in the original
@@JenX_1973 bite me you you troll. Who asked you.
Why does Stone so frequently bring a thermos to work? Are we supposed to believe the DA's office doesn't have coffee machines?
Not ones that have whiskey in the coffee, at least
The coffee I make is vastly superior to office coffee, lol. And my thermos can keep it piping hot for over 12 hours.
If Stone was a real coffee addict, then it's justified...
Believe it or not, Ppl used to make their own coffee and food.
@@alignwithsource people still do
I bring my own coffee to work. I like good strong java. Not the weakass pisshosh that comes out of machines.
