They weren’t universal’s trees and were on public property, yet the city could only levy a $250 fine. I thought, if this were Law & Order, a picketer would have died of heat stroke, the police would find the smoking gun memo from the studio head, authorizing it and adding “I hope they all drop dead!”, and the DA would have prosecuted him for manslaughter with depraved indifference! Then, at the end, after his conviction, he’d either get probation from the judge (a member of his country club, who won’t recuse himself), or he will take his private jet to his mansion in some country that doesn’t have extradition to the US. To be fair, most episodes are close, and often go either way based on last minute information, usually either (a) hidden by the defendant or defendant’s mistress/wife/relative for shock value; or (b) discovered based random insight.
Since prosecuting murder cases is expensive, it is prudent caution to pick battles so that the case’s conclusion is largely certain. Adam is just being a responsible administrator.
