    This is so good. The night court looks like a real night court, overcrowded, dirty and reeking of visible cigarette smoke. Compare the L&O squad rooms with the SVU squad room/ luxury suite/media center that is more evocative of an office of a blue chip investment bank.

      In their defense it can vary depending on the courthouse for example I live on the edge of Scottsdale and their courthouse is always immaculate.

    I love Stone’s technique in cross examination, he starts off kind, wanting to strike a conversation, be the ally of the witness, then when he got the witness right where he wants them, he goes in for the kill

      The first season was done on a much smaller budget than the rest of the run; it’s definitely something you can tell with the sets and camerawork

    What a fantastic clip! You really get see a full range of human emotion in a background of serious investigation. The last part showing the madam's silent guilt and then the camera turning to the jurors scornful faces. You already know their judgment. Guilty! A brilliant show. I have to re-watch this.       I like Sam Waterston better as an actor but McCoy definitely bends the rules when it suits him. I really like the fact Stone was so committed to always doing what was right (and quit when he felt like he'd lost sight of that).

    The first two seasons with ben stone and paul robinette are the best duo on the order side bar none. I was always bummed they didnt bring them back more often (did they ever even bring ben stone back? He was so prime)

      He didn't leave on the best of terms and didn't seem keen to do so (from what I read he was a bit of a pain to work with) so they never brought him back though his name was dropped a few times and he died off-screen in SVU.

    I think this was loosely based on the Mayflower Madam case. The papers played it for salacious laughs at the time but even though this a fiction show, as the clip illustrates, there's not really anything funny about it, in fiction or real life.
