    Goes without saying that the writing and acting is stellar as always, but the lighting is also excellent. Characters half in light, half in shadow. This helps focus attention and adds gravitas to already great scenes. It must have been a bugger to shoot though.

      I've read some Hemingway. Old Man And The Sea is a great one to start with. For Whom The Bell Tolls is a must-read. Farewell To Arms is also on my list. Hemingway also helped write one of JFK's speeches.

      I’ve never liked Hemingway. I don’t like his style. He wrote in a ‘newspaper reporter’ style. I didn’t enjoy the couple of books I read, and that was that. “A FAREWELL TO ARMS” is a wonderful movie, though. Helen Hayes and Gary Cooper.

      @@UNIT294 We had to read "Old Man and the Sea" at school, the biggest deterrent to liking any author. If all the people who wanted the Harry Potter books banned had made them compulsory reading as part of English Lit. in schools they would have collapsed sales overnight.

      @@Ohm_mega Harry Potter doesn't qualify as great literature. Nor does most Hemingway.

    This and the thing with the Middle East were two examples of what was basically Barlett's hubris. Well-intentioned, sure, but there was still a sense of if HE could get it done going on.

    Obama got the ball rolling on this finally… Trump rolled it back a bit. But there are cracks of daylight still. We should be normalizing relations in earnest. This embargo has been outdated for a while now.

    • @paulferro338
      @paulferro338 12 дней назад

      Yea. Screw the 100,000 political prisoners in Cuban jails.
      Normalization happens when the last Castro is dead, the prisoners are freed, & there an open & free multiparty democratic elections.
      Not before.

    That embargo destroyed our rice farmers whose greatest export market was Cuba, enthusiastic consumers of American-grown rice.

    • @noahbrown6970
      @noahbrown6970 Месяц назад

      Also drove a pretty fat stake into the gut of the Cuban automotive industries, most vehicles over there being 60+ years old isn't for aesthetic reasons lol
      Some say that's part of the reason Cuba finally sat at the negotiating table with the US irl, they needed the embargo lifted cause they were basically running out of spare parts

    Modern politics, and especially the overexposed USA ones, make me sick to my stomach. Don't mind governance and statesmanship , most of the time is thinking about getting your ass in or back in power, the rest of the time is thinking about how get money to do and from that.
