There is an episode from The Good Doctor- where Richard’s character is hallucinating after brain surgery and is having a conversation with his daughter who died many years before. Both Richard and Holly Taylor are phenomenal - absolutely worth watching even if you don’t watch that show. It’s called “36 Hours” - episode 3 of season 2.
@@michaelmuldowney8 I'm not a fan of the show but I love Schiff, so I've actually fast forwarded through episodes just to get to his parts lol! I watched that episode in its entirety and yes, they were absolutely wonderful.
Also masterful performances from Bradley Whitford and John Spencer at the beginner--the shock that Leo put into the word "Tuesday" when he learns that Josh didn't know that David died; and Josh's distress that he didn't go to the funeral to support the friend who found him after he was shot at Rosslyn.
I found the character Toby to be the most interesting of the series. Richard Schiff was perfectly cast and gave one incredible performance after another.
My friend owned over 10 acres of land. There was a HOA community as his nearest neighbor. The two properties were separated by a river. Over time the HOA began to dislike the exit to their subdivision. The road was long & twisty. When they finally reached the nearest highway the residents were still over a half hour drive to the nearest town. Out of nowhere the HOA had found a solution. They convinced a State lawmaker to propose a constitution project. It was to build a bridge across the river followed by building a road across my friends property to connect to a different highway. No more challenging exit from the subdivision & the distance to the town was halved . My friend was surprised & displeased. He was trying to figure out how to fight this project. He need not have worried as the bridge building bill died in Committee. There were ecological issues but mostly because the bridge would have been an expensive project only serving 100+ families. The HOA had hoped to expand but no bridge no expansion. As you might expect my friend was relieved and delighted. Eventually he had other issues with the HOA but that’s another story.
Toby really spiraled in the last couple of seasons. His brother committed suicide and he gets fired (and nearly tossed in prison) for the whole shuttle debacle.
The sadness and the emotional breakdown actually is a very very interesting storyline. It does explain everything that happens and how he ends up betraying Bartlett. I wish this could have been explored more

Life never goes how you planned, it's random, unfair and cruel sometimes and there's nothing that you can do about it except for the tiny little sliver you exert control over. If that feels 'off' to you, its because it is likely too real for you and ruined your suspension of disbelief.
In the real world someone like Toby would have left the administration. The last few Bartlet years were very pragmatic, they had to be. Someone like Toby wasn't going to get anything done in that environment.
um i believe CJ says "want me to /go/" not "leave" hahaha but wow what a great scene. both how tobey is showing grief in a very real way, someone who isnt comfortable showing vulnerability but wanting cj to stay, and how supportive cj is in how she asks diffierent questions to try and relate to or bring up some tangible communication from tobey♥
I would’ve thought Josh would be more devastated over the death of his college roommate. Seriously, Whitfield roomed with Schiff’s brother at Wesleyan!
This is fully believable, that a guy like Toby who believes in people being a force for good would not accept his brother killing himself when he had a chance at more life. Toby who never gave up on his beliefs for anything.
Regardless of how you feel about this episode, Richard Schiff is an A class actor. Absolutely phenomenal job here

You could really smell the writers didn't know what they were cooking

There was some method acting going on. Richard Schiff said on a podcast he was pretty disappointed with where they took that character.
