I have a 1981 July 29th prince Charles and lady Diana coin, Tristan Da cunha, 25 pence coin. I can't find any information about it. How many etc.please help clear up this mystery for me.
I'm from the UK, I was a child before decimalisation so can remember using the old money. I grew up in the 1960s and even then you sometimes got a Victorian penny in your change.

It's a baffling system. The Two Shilling coin was actually still legal tender in the decimal currency, I'm not entirely sure why. Its value was 10 new pence, whereas it was worth 24 old pence. The value in relation to the pound remained the same, a tenth of. 240 pence to the old pound, for some reason. The Two shilling coin was kept in circulation alongside the new 10p coin and was the same size and weight. The 10p coin's size was reduced in 1992, demonetising the old Two Shilling coin. Also, the 5p coin you have was replaced by a tiny version in 1990. Up until then, the old One Shilling coin was legal tender as 5p. Vending machines and such recognised the older coins as their respective modern values, due to their identical proportions.
Because the old two shillings had an exact replacement coin of 10 new pence and so the urgency wasn’t There to replace it unlike the old penny three pence coin half crown etc that had no metric equivalents and so needed to be changed as people couldn’t use them under the metric system of coinage
I was stationed in Scotland and later England in the 60’s, took me forever to get a handle on coinage with base 12 and not base 10. Farthings, Pence, shillings. Two shillings and sixpence for a beer in those days

As far as the two pence coin goes a rare and collectable 2pence piece is the 1983 as you can see in the video there's some two pence coins with new pence on them and two pence on others this was to help with the change over of coin from the old coins farthing/sixpence etc to the new coins, ten pence five, two etc so after decimali'zation the coin with new pence written on it ran from 1971 to 1982 THEN THE coin with two pence written on it was introduced from 1982 TO present day but in 1983 a error coin was released (accidentally ) into circulation which has New Pence written on it these 2pence coins are very rare and can be worth anywhere from £1500-£2000 (STIRLING, especially to a British collector) That's only the 1983 with New Pence written on it. The two shilling coin is an old 10pence piece

Only worth bugger all if you dont know what you are looking at. Many hold a good premium, take micro errors. 1911 penny circulated worth say ten pence but 1911 gouby x penny can fetch £80+ in the same condition so to buy a ten pence a coin and to sell at £80+ I would think a good investment.
