    Medic is hard to master because skill as him relies more on judgement than actual performance. Good medics are ones that can predict the future and that's not easily learned.

      The only problems I have with medic are the medi guns (I prefer to use Kritzkrieg , but I use the stock a lot) and the lack of so to speak "interesting" weapons. I like the medic as a class a lot, if it weren't for the all father, the B.M.O.C, and the gift bringer, medic would be my favorite class. However, medic still has a few to a lot of problems. If I were to suggest something to new players trying to work with the medic, I'd say simply "Work on your jukes and hiding places." Because as a medic, people will want to target you over the class you're healing if you've played the game for more than an hour and have a basic understanding of the class. Thanks Array if you actually read this, I know how hard it can be to play medic in the first place and I like your videos because they helped me understand how to be a good player at the game.

      @bluarrow4505 4 года назад +42

      Looking at other classes like Scout, Solly, and Sniper which are near impossible classes to master Engie is not hard to “master” at all. It’s all about learning placement for buildings and having at least decent shotgun aim. Wrangler is broken, Minis are broken, Rescue is broken. See what I’m getting at here? So overall Engie is definitely one of the easiest classes to master (in a comp scene)

      @capitalism1619 4 года назад +55

      Yeah, so metal management, maintaining buildings, situational awareness and other things aren’t part of the equation at all times? Building placement ain’t just it chief, you have to know when to do it, and one slip up means your dead in a matter of seconds. The rescue ranger isn’t op because not only is it’s clip size smaller, but it fires bolts that really don’t do enough damage to defend yourself on top of the fact that you take mini crits when moving buildings leaving you much more vulnerable. Engie is one of the hardest classes to master because there are many different things you can do with him, and many different playstyles.

    • @capitalism1619

      Also, yeah sniper and scout are hard to master,

    The *absolute* basics of medic are:
    - Keep track of your team
    - Keep track of your uber
    - Keep track of your health.
    But much more often, it's:
    - Are you playing offensively, or defensively?
    - Can you predict shots with the crossbow?
    - What's the enemy team doing? Their layout? Team comp?
    - What's *your* team doing? Their layout? Team comp?
    - What medigun is the best choice for both layouts?
    - Are you pushing, or staying back?
    - Is it a good idea to follow your team, or stay back because the push might fail?
    - What can you call out?
    And lots of other things like that. For me, medic is an autopilot thing. It was extremely hard to pick up, but once you learn everything you need to learn, you can just do it without thinking. You see a spy? Call him out. Scout at fifty? Get him to ninety, get on your soldier. Engie? Stock time.
    If you run a more offensive playstyle (like me), run blutsauger. If you run a more safe, defensive playstyle, run crossbow. If the enemy team has an engie, run stock for a push. Remember to listen to your team.
    So yeah, medic is hard to master in the grand scheme of things. But it's more of a psychological game than actually picking up the class and learning its mechanics. Can you handle talking to people constantly, and constantly being talked to? Are you comfortable with calling most things out? Can you game sense your ass through the fifth dimension? If so, then yeah, medic will be pretty easy for you to master.
    But if you need even a *little* bit of practice, it'll get hard real quick. Most of medic's key concepts can be taught and learnt easily, but the little subsets that come off them are absolutely insane. Like, what's your playstyle? The comp, all that.
    I can say I've gotten really good as medic, and maybe even near mastery, but medic is hard to consider as a "yes or no" when it comes to mastering. It all depends on your playstyle, analytics, and what your team needs.

Which one sounds more fun to you?

  • @RedGallardo
    @RedGallardo 8 лет назад +163

    Obviously the hardest is Spy. Spy must know everything - the maps, all the ammo/medkits, all classes, what they can do, psychology, Spy must see himself in the reflection in the eyes of the foes, he must understand how to mind-trick, when to strike, must have a good aim to use pistol to get away from nasty situations, must have tons of experience with cloaking, feeling when it's full invis, know when he has healing signs on him in cloak or a syringe that gives him away. And, of course, feel perfectly the positioning with all the lags. Cause even without facestabbing it takes skill to BS and sap.
    And to be efficient he must do all that fast. While all other classes can stay safe, Spy must not only rely 100% on his own skill but also deal with luck and psychology. And any mistake is death. Sniper has distance, Medic has his team, all other classes can kill and defend. As each of them you can do your little job even without knowing much but a Spy is zero without knowledge of everything and awareness of the situation.
    And easiest is hard to tell. Med can just stick to his team and heal, no need for more, just watch what others do and learn tactics and maps. Sol is a good choice for any newbie. Sol can adapt. Much health, any distance damage, can kill most classes 1 on 1 if going against same newbies. Splash, crockets... It's just stable. Heavy takes aiming to play and lazy Heavies who don't turn around get killed too fast so I wouldn't say he's easy. Engie is easy only if you know where to build. A newbie won't save his buildings from Spies so it takes a supporting team. But at least you don't need to aim, just know what to do. Scout is good for those who can play shooters but don't know the maps. So different noobs need different classes to start with.
    The only thing I want from my team of noobs is to be useful. No need to be capable of killing, just shoot at the enemies and stay safe. When you see someone top score going into the battle, for fuck sake, don't stare but go behind him and shoot at the enemies! Or look around so that this guy didn't get a knife in his back. For good solo players it's important to have sides covered. So when he can focus on 1 direction while you watch his back, it's VERY helpful. That's what newbies should do. And that's what they don't do when they take Snipers and Spies that not only take high skill but also cannot provide any support. Can't tank, can't defend themselves vs the weakest opponents, just lemmings waiting to die.
    The simplest idea that X allies can kill X times faster and save X times more health in battle if they work simultaneously seems too difficult to some people. So any class except Sniper and Spy can be played by a noob. And mastering takes about the same on every class. 9k hours average. I've seen pros on each class. Unkillable, impressive and fast.

      Hi Toofty,
      I think you got most things right, except for the following:
      1. The demoman, (I know you are fantastic with him btw, which I also think is why you got him wrong) he is much harder to pick up than almost any other class in my point of view. I played 200 hours on soldier before switching to maining demo and I still got wrecked for the first 20 to 30 hours of playing him intensely. Pipes are much harder to hit than rockets (as you mentioned as soon as you start shooting on the ground they become much easier to work with for newbies and even before that, the splash always comes instantly, whether from the ground or walls which are close by - so clearly they are easier to handle)
      2. Scout and sniper, both of these are incredibly hard to master, while you are right in stating that its primarily mechanical skill, its mechanical skill that is the hardest to learn and to maintain.
      3. Spy, I think he is one of the easiest classes to master for two reasons, one as regards pubs and the other as regards comp matches (hl). Firstly, as regards pubs considering that his primary way of killing people involves a bit of flanking and decision making and if done well results in instant death of the opponent I believe in pubs once you played any class for a few hours and then invest another few hours you can quickly become very good, much faster in fact, than if you would have to learn a more interactive skill, as you have to for the others.
      4. Engie, ok to be fair you are right if we are talking about just picking up the game including the first 5 minutes of gameplay. I believe that its much more interesting though to talk about roughly the first hour or two and in this scenario its much easier to start with engie. I'd say that its even easier than heavy, the reason for that in my opinion is that once you learned how to upgrade your sentry you will always be somewhat useful even if all your decisions are terrible, simply because a lvl 3 alone is so powerful. Btw I do think it needs some serious nerfing.
      Thanks for making such awesome videos, I'm subscribed with both my accounts!

I love your work, I apreciate your perspective about the gameplay and classes!

    Now we observe the elusive Heavy main in his TRIGGERED state
    Mini Essay Ahead
    Seriously guys people only think heavy is easy/has a low skill ceiling because that's what around 30% of players pick when they start out because of the large health pool which is sad because if you think heavy what do you think? A player pocketed by a medic dominating a good bit of their team or a idiot just trying to kill everyone in the one minute he survives? Probably the latter.
    (Nothing against you newer heavies i'm sure your better than that)
    Once one takes time to learn the class and be spy paranoid as all hell you can do pretty great even without a medic which may sound like something you may see on a cat poster but take it from me I used to be your run of the mill moron waving his gun around trying to get a few kills but once I learned some special tricks to him like the fact he shoots out of his head not gun from *Rydercycle* I tended to do a lot better in pubs and now casual.
    I know this is probably too long for a RUclips comment but I wanted to stress the fact that heavy does not have that low of a skill ceiling and, in my opinion, is not boring to play compared to the others.
    To all my aspiring heavies out there, good luck on your journey to greatness (again)

    Mastering? EASILY demo. Learning how to rollout on each 6s map is enough to make one go insane, where as with any other class, it doesn't require that much skill on just GETTING TO MID. Then, once at mid, to be effective, you have to know to only shoot one or two stickies at the demo, and then try to focus the scouts to take away their buffs. Not to mention, you can't only keep that in mind, you have to know when to start retreating, because staying alive and setting traps can buy enough time for your team to re-spawn. Also, you mainly have to stay behind your pocket, but you have to super aggressive, when you roll them, and then overextending there can be really tricky because your stickies can be shot away from the ground and they have an arm time, you can't just latch on to a scout, use your speed, jump away, or equip the dead ringer to get out of a sticky (unintentional pun) situation.
    Demo is easily the hardest to pick-up, and BY FAR the hardest to master.

Wrapping your head around healing everyone, who needs healing the most, when to heal, when to dmg, when to pop is all a part of picking him up but is also a part of mastering him (mastering him includes dmg surfing though) and its not like someone who was just installed the game and played it for 50 hours can play medic effectively, they're basically a sitting duck. They don't pop, they only heal heavies because health = good in their head and they just don't know how the class works in general.

    Im a scout main (or a dick shovel, depending on were you come from) and this is my list:
    Easiest class to pick up:
    1. Heavy - Can do lots of damage with high health
    2. Sniper - No matter if you have good aim or not, the role of the class is pretty set
    3. Soldier - Don't get mad at me, he shoots giant slow bullets that have splash damage
    4. Pyro - If your trying to learn how to deal with things like a spy, or combos and even w+m1 sometimes, it can get difficult
    5. Scout - Dodging can aiming at the same time with low health can be difficult, but he uses hitscan not projectiles (thankfully)
    6. Demoman - Since the grenades (and stickies) have an ark, they can be hard to aim, not even counting the timing
    7. Spy - Between the clocking, disguising and backstabbing, it takes skill (have I pleased you lord Gaben?)
    8. Engineer - Building placement and maintaining them in the right order can be difficult
    9. Medick - Have you not watched ArraySeven once?

    As an engie main who commonly runs 40-kill games and or top of the leaderboard, i would say that its really easy to pick up and hard to master. You are going to have that 6 months of pain and sadness but once you finally get in that groove, you will be running 53 kill, 8 domination games after a year or two.
    Another thing about carrying your teams is teamwork. Its takes a single spy to ruin a whole nest and a single engie to wipe the enemy team. A single good or bad engie can make or break a bad team. For example, i played a really good round with a really good team vs a really bad one, won the first round then got immediately autobalanced onto the bad one. Somehow, i was able to turn that oncoming L around and carry off a last minute win with only 2 or 3 deaths and nearly 50 kills. Other than the last 5 seconds, it was all me. The last Cap on PL_Upward and a dispenser in the doorway (blocks spies) and a L3, i made it out with the sentry going down at the last minute. I held off the enemy team and the majority of them were about to cap but then my team came in with an amazing final defense and we stopped them.
    It was probably the best i had ever done as Engie, and the best i had done over any class. You just have to remember:
    Never give up
    and
    Watch out for spies.
    Stay fresh.

    I main the question mark, checkmate
    But in all seriousness heavy has MANY more nuances and seemingly hidden techniques that are much more tricky than you'd image.
    He's typically fully targeted by the enemy team for having the best close range DPS so techniques such as ambushing, jump revving, and bhop revving can mean the difference between life and death and can be very tricky to get just right in the heat of battle, all the while managing spies and snipers to prevent instakills leaving the team with no meatshield and keeping the heat off of everyone with their health pool (which is depleted very fast when the whole other team checks you at "high threat" on their kill lists) all the while maintaining covering fire to boot.
    Heavy mains have a lot more on their plate than shooting and being silly snadivich boyes which really goes over people's heads. So please give the next heavy main you see a bit more credit (that is if you can find any, we're like unicorns we're so rare)

This would allow the heavy to point his gun at the ground and basically have a jetpack that he could also aim at enemies at near point-blank for massive damage.

Placing your building doesnt requires much skill as for every map there are just a few options which make sense... once you have a good spot, u use it 80% of the time. In my opinion for someone new to fps shooters this is the list, easiest to hardest
    Medic-No need to aim, can be pretty helpful to the team even if they're bad
    Heavy-Has a lot of health, powerful, and doesn't require precise aiming
    Pyro-Can easily deal damage if within range, but other mechanics such as airblasting or spychecking could prove hard
    Soldier-Due to the blast damage makes it slightly easier to aim shots
    Scout-Movement might be hard to master but if you have a slower target then it might not be too hard
    Demoman- I thought about putting it before scout, but since you have to predict enemy movement it'd be hard, not to mention arc the grenades
    Sniper- Aiming and shooting moving targets is really hard for someone new to fps games
    Engineer-You need to know how to build, what's a good spot to put what, spycheck, and a bunch of other stuff that could overwhelm new players.
    Spy-You need to know what each weapon does, the map, good hiding places, who to disguise as, etc.
    lmk your opinion

      @Lawlz4Dayzz 11 месяцев назад

      Sniper is easiest due to his insta kill potential with his ammo reserve and infinite range to spam shots without needing to move or enegage in the fight.
      Engineer just needs a safe place to build and wait with an auto aim turret so hes a but harder than W M1 pyro due to time needed and positioning.

    I absolutely agree with Medic being the hardest class to master, but not so much with the "easy to pick up" category, because there are many layers to Medic, such as primary heal targets, priorities, survivability, etc.
    New players mostly don't know that. In fact, most new players, I find, generally always use the Syringe Gun because they think it's some sort of rifle that can output massive damage. And when I see them use the Medi Gun, they usually attach themselves to a Heavy and never really know when to start healing others. Heavy dies? Pull out Syringe Gun, run at the enemies - Rambo style.
    But other than that, the list was fairly spot on.

    • @BreadBeardFGC

      u agree with the sphee :C
      Anyways, on a more serious note, I believe he put the Medic up there as it doesn't take much effort to pop a basic uber and press mouse 1 on teammates.
      I'm not trashtalking or anything, as a matter of fact, I highly respect med mains, staying alive is a bitch.
      But you must understand that it doesn't take much game experience to help your team, such as pyro and heavy.
      And on more note, it saddens me that I have to agree with you on this but, yes, 80% of the medics I find (my team or their team) are convinced their syringe gun is like that needle gun from blops 3, and to make things worse, my friend (who hardly plays tf2, like, at all) plays Blutsauger only medic and refuses to heal teammates, he even made me buy a vintage KS one ;-;

    Well i was new to tf2 and my friend made hoovy jokes. I didnt understand them and downloaded the game and played heavy 24/7(I eventually understood the community). I played heavy and died alot. All i saw was spys soilders and scouts coming for me. I got sick of it. A month later I actually sorta got familiar with the game and played heavy alot better. I was still sick of it. But i had no choice since it was the only class I knew. When i learned that i was actually on a team and stopped beind f2p scum i noticed how people died so quickly. Rocket hits demo and is ded. Scout jump around and shoot heavy. ded. I wanted to stop it and make them less frustrated(I assumed people would get mad at dying over and over again). I press , and saw a doctor like shape. I hovered over it and read that clipboard no one does. "Heal your teammates with your medigun!" I clicked. From that game of Upward my ratio of dying in a game as medic has gone down to on average(I actually did math) to at least 3 times a match. Welp thats my medic main story.

    This is for picking up classes. In my opinion scout is at the middle of the spectrum. He was the first class i played, and I got a couple of kills on other players fairly quickly. I would put Solly at the lower end because, i tried him for one hour and i got 2 dominations in that time. (This was in my first 3 hours of tf2). I would put Pyro just under solider because you can hold mouse one as he said. And flank routes are pretty simple. Equip the backburner and get some kills. Demoman is at the higher end because the pipes are really hard to hit because of tumbling. I had trouble with them because i could not predict them. I personally never used stickys so i don't have a say in that. Heavy would be in the middle, because if there is a medic he would have the medic on him. But Snipers and Spies will destroy them quickly. Engie is a bit higher than heavy because of building, but you can just learn from past mistakes and tutorials. Medic is higher than Engie but it's really close. It's because the medic will get focused down by scouts. And he will most likely die. Sniper is in the middle. Where engie is at i think. He is hard to play but because they are not new to games it won't be that hard. Spy is hard, everyone is so aware that new spies have to get kills on other clueless people to get better. They don't know how to trickstab and they dont know how to act and manage their cloak.

      That's only because they have a long range insta crit weapon, but that doesn't mean it requires more aiming than any other hitscan class. Aimbot scouts in the hands of anyone decent would also hard stomp an entire server, in that sense, a Sniper requires less skill because it only needs to move their mouse, while the Scout would also need to know how to dodge, remember the scattergun does 100+ damage at full, it can 2 shot every class minus Heavy in 0.6 seconds. What about a Soldier that never misses a single rocket (that includes airshots), and got in an out of range at crazy speeds? Heavy does 500 dps at close, and at range still does a LOT (assuming perfect aim). Most classes have infinite skill ceilings in theory, Sniper simply has the strongest weapon in the game.

    I don't feel like Heavy got a whole lot of love in this. Heavy isn't all that easy to pick up, nor is he easy to master. You have to learn how to aim, track your enemy perfectly, maintain damage on them, and even figure out some way to flank the enemy into making them get close enough so you can do damage. I've seen more bad Heavies than I have good Heavies, so I feel like he actually has a relatively high skill ceiling. Heavy may be the first class that people play when they first begin playing the game, but that doesn't really mean that he's easy to master. My personal opinion may be a bit biased since I am a Heavy/Soldier main, so go figure I'll feel like Heavy isn't easy to play.

    • @justmovedin
      @justmovedin 8 лет назад

      But hitscan aim is useful to all other classes as well, except for maybe demo and medic. Playing Scout is basically like playing Heavy except squishier, requires much more mobility and jumping, and you need to learn how to aim while moving and be unpredictable.

    • @Rhike
      @Rhike 8 лет назад

      But heavy can't get out of situations because of his speed. Scout can just turn away jumping around... Every single encounter must be thought of with heavy due to spinup.

    • @R4ND0MCR4P123R4ND0MN3SS
      @R4ND0MCR4P123R4ND0MN3SS 8 лет назад

      Rhike I use the Tomislav as my main weapon, so my spin-up is faster than others, but I usually spin-up mid-air as I'm jumping around corners to flank enemies, as well as spin-up as soon as I see a glimpse of an enemy. There is strategy behind playing as such a large class that (as you said) cannot get out of most encounters alive. That's why I believe that he isn't a necessarily easy class to play, as he requires both skill and tactic in order to be made useful.

      Just Moved In Most of the time hitscan can be incredibly unforgiving, especially with Snipers. Scout and Heavy are nothing alike, since Scout has double-jump, is the fastest class, and can capture everything twice as fast. Heavy, on the other hand, can't avoid bullets as easily as most other classes, which is why you have to kill the enemy before they kill you. Scout DOES require some skill and effort in order to double-jump and still maintain aim on the target, which is difficult to do sometimes. But I've been in encounters where Scouts run at me and I'll mow them down before they can do any major damage to me. It's all dependent on how skilled the player is which determines how many encounters the class can survive.

    I think spy should be moved up a few spaces, trickstabs, movement, blending in, deception and much more. But heavy in my opinion is very difficult to master. Yes there are less mechanics for the heavy but he is so difficult to play effectively in high level competitive play. Heavy's most important factor is his movement , hes a huge slab of meat and against high level opponents you are very vulnerable, mastering movement of the heavy is very hard and requires a lot of brain. Positioning is also key, you cant just run into a payload covered in enemies, you need to know when to fall back, set up with your team and keep your medic safe above all else. Heavy can almost be thought in a way like an engineer, good positioning, movement and judgement of when to fall back, keeping your team safe and mowing down anybody that dares to over extend.

      Adding on i think heavy can be a very frustrating class to play in high level play, because if you fuck one thing up it usually results in your death.

      Arie Roskam That made me think of heavy in a whole different way. It's really kind of like he's a "sentry", with medic being the engineer. That proves 2 things about the 3 classes. 1. Heavy must be in a good position, just like engi's sentry, 2. Medic while shouldn't abandon heavy (just like engi shouldn't abandon a sentry), should definitely not be his pocket medic (compared to turtle engineer) and focus on other people (buildings and spies with engi)

      John Spignardo somehow as a medic i have a really good spy detection skill :o
      unless he decloaks on our spawn and walks up to the battlefield without me turning around (which i do often, and i spycheck even people coming from the direction of our spawn, so good luck), i can tell who's a spy from far away.

    To be slightly more objective, you could judge them by aim, things to keep track off, weapon variability, and unique and hidden mechanics,

    Easiest: Pyro and Spy
    Hardest: Sniper, Soldier, Demo and Medic.
    For me.
    Also, I'm a Medic main, and yeah, it's hard to play him.
    You have to avoid snipers and Spies.
    You have to decide who will get the uber.
    You have to decide who to heal.
    And you need a bit of good aim for the CC.

    A bit out of topic but still, spys who relies only on trickstabs are hilarious, like he runs around corner, backs up and looks at you with this "Why didn't you follow me?" Expression. And then he gets fucked up.

    soldier is no doubt the easiest class to play. they can do damage to multiple targets without even hitting anyone, they have extremely unreasonable damage output, they can rocket jump all over the map making them faster than scout and they also having high health
