At the end. It's all depend on how you want to use the photos. For casual shooting to be shared digitally phone camera will be better. But if you wanted to be serious about taking photo then you want to skip the compact and use dslr or mirrorless instead. The only place for compact is when you want fine control of camera when taking photo.
Man, ZV1 looks more real and better but iPhones are much more convenient to use. If my budget can reach for 13 Pro, I'll go for it. If not, then the ZV1. This is the smallest one that suits my lifestyle the most. ZV10 is tempting but I learned my lesson years ago that I never got a new lens nor improved my photography skill. So I'm just gonna stick with basic stuff and the devices I can carry with me all the time. Thank you so much for the review. It's as good as always.
I have an iPhone 12 Pro. Was thinking either a google galaxy s21 ultra or the zv1 for a camera mainly device. I wanted something I can put in my pocket and work better then my iPhone at night. I just wish the zv 1 had better zoom. I also look at the ZV E 10. and thought. I don't want to buy a bunch of lenses and I want something that fit in my pocket.
@@jeremybenson5090 Darn it, I typed everything out and accidently closed the window. Here's the summary, If you want to zoom, you can get RX100 Mark 7. It has 24-200mm F2.8-4.5. The downside is that you lose the F1.8 in ZV1 and Mark 7's price is about the same as 13 Pro. In that case, you can get the RX100 Mark 6 for lower price. Check the review first though. ZV1 is the same form factor as the RX100 series. It's cheaper because it has lower quality materials. I think the ZV1 is equal to the Mark 5. Speaking of the Mark 5, there's a new version called "5A" which uses the same sensor and software from the Mark 6. I wouldn't recommend anything lower than the Mark 5 though. Hope this help!
i still would prefer the iphone. the picture difference is just minimal and if i want the highest quality, i'd rather go for mirrorless or DSLR ones. But in times like this, no one is carrying digital cameras anymore unless you're a vlogger or professional. also as a normal consumer, i prefer a gadget that can do a lot of things than spending in a single-specific use like a camera.
I have a ZV1 for a stationary shoot with a teleprompter and connected to my Mac via OBS. The ZV1 is a fantastic camera and can do many of the things more expensive cameras can do. But on the go, or if I want to shoot outside, the batary is terrible, you need to carry more things. On the other hand my iPhone 13 Pro Max, can do everything I need, at any time. connect a small mic, and audio is great. The picture quality is fantastic and can be corrected a little in post. So, I use both, each for it's own strengths. The iPhone surprises me every time with it's ease of use, great picture quality and the ability to do any kind of project.
@@orsorodrigo The battery lasts for about 25-35 minutes in 4K (longer in 1080, but I don't shoot in 1080). You have to have extra batteries. Another option (which I use), is to connect a battery pack to the camera, and you extend the performance to a few hours, but the camera will heat up a lot.
Awesome video! I have every iPhone since 3GS, and I also dislike the over sharpening and over saturated plasticky photos and videos taken from recent generations. Apple's image processing used to be natural and tasteful, but they just screwed it with computational photography. The sharpening even reminds of early DV camcorders' look. To make things worse, there is no way we can completely get rid of those AI stuffs now. While taking photos, we cannot turn SmartHDR off in the new iPhone 13 lineup even shooting in RAW. As for video, Apple also did not provide APIs for developers to turn off edge sharpening and noise reduction in their apps like Filmic Pro. How shame. It is magical that RUclips recommend your video to me, because I have carried my old but reliable RX100V (or a Rollei 35T) in my pocket everyday for 2 months. And I am ready to switch to a Xperia Pro-I next month :)
THANK YOU!!! Well done and covers exactly what needs to be covered. Yes, the iPhone is good for causal non-photographers (i.e. the unwashed masses). But for photographers shooting casually that edit photos, the ZV-1 makes a good case even in 2023 at $700 new. It should outlast the typical iPhone lifespan for *most* users (yes, the flagship iPhone has 6 years of updates - most of you will trade it in before then and a good amount of people don't have the flagship). Of course, find a well-kept ZV-1 for $400-450 to save on the "drive it off a dealer's lot " depreciation. And save your phone's battery.
Hi Oleg (I hope I understood your name correctly). You’re doing a really professional work here, I just wanted to congratulate you. The pictures with your daughter are lovely and the review much appreciated. :)
I take the iphone. The difference only matters for a pro. If you are a pro, go for a dedicated camera. But I really appreciate the ability to just edit and share all on 1 device.
I’m glad I bought the ZV-1 for $165 and only reason why iPhone look better because they cheated by doing post processing that make the image sharper from what I know
I have a feeling that in a blind test, iPhone will all ways win. Most probably, people doesnt care noise, overdharpening, etc. Casual user like me will always go over the overall look, brightness and contrast. Sony pics look gloomy.
Yea but zv1 it has better definition iphone always looks digital and washed out. A phone is design as a phone it wasn’t meant for professional photography. Zv 1 can produce films not a phone on this planet is made to do what zv1 can do.
I wish we could reduce the sharpening on the iPhone, because the HDR is very useful. Hopefully the next DJI Pocket 3 will have 10bit HLG. Wishful thinking.
Wow! I was working servicing cameras when Sony with Canon released the first digital camera recording on a stamp size floppy. Half a megapixel was the start, stills with a dynamic level so low that hardly anybody would believe how the technology can advance. The Iphone 13 is the temporary king of video phone but every day is another day.
I have just updated to Photoshop 2022. In Camera Raw now we finally have Apple ProRaw profile. How do you recommend to open these RAW files of iPhone 13 Pro inside Photoshop Camera Raw 14.0? By default it is set to Adobe RGB, 8 bit, 300ppi. Do you leave these preferences by default or have you changed them?
iphone is impressive, thou apple should consider lowering the digital sharpening that they apply to the image (or at least give the settings to lower it down) as well as increase the sensor size to 1 inch on main and wide angle camera. it would be a true MAX camera.
The winning factor for most people will be what fits in their pocket and is it sharp enough, it's how things seem to be going. The world of photography seems to be going sharp and there's not a lot we can do about it. Hopefully this trend will change. A proper dedicated camera is for the artist which most folk aren't. Most folk would probably prefer taking pictures at night with night vision like the military use, something our eyes don't even do well at. If the future is apple, then it looks like our future will keep getting sharper, unfortunately!
iPhone 13 cameras are provided by Sony so in conclusion it is a direct comparison of two different Sony products plus it is meaningless to compare a dedicated photography machine with a smartphone. At the end of the day, Sony will still beat all others because of it's ability to capture the natural essence of a particular scene.
The reason I brought iPhone for myself is that I liked the camera but after using it, I found out many nice things about the phone and love how Apple is so serious when it comes to security. Yes, I understand DSLR and cameras may be good and better than smartphone cameras but I appreciate how smartphones have many things like awesome apps along with the camera and we can connect to our friends and families and do so many things that cameras alone can’t do. It’s great that at least now we have cameras in our phones as there were no phones with the camera before 2000. I just love the cameras 🎥 and smartphones equally but DSLR and cameras have a special place in my heart since my father was a great Camera Man too. 😉🙂
Oleg, you're the only reviewer who is pointing out the excessive digital sharpening and water painting effect pictures on the iPhone 13 Pro Max or any 13 for that matter. My old iPhone XS Max takes pictures kind of like the ones on the Sony ZV-1. A little bit more noisier, but more detail. What gives?
@@NOlimitsON yea thanks for the reply! I actually returned my 13 Pro Max for that reason. It makes people’s faces look like plastic and the overall image looks bad like you said over processed
We could argue Iphone vs Sony zv1 but we know no phone on the market will beat a DSLR, I can say the iPhones cameras are pretty good but you won’t catch a professional photographer or videographer with a phone camera to shoot, unless they know what there doing and it was necessary for that occasion, cause that’s like a surgeon bringing a knife, scissors and thread to treat you at the hospital.

I would love to see a comparison between DJI Pocket 2 and iPhone 13 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra (if you have one). DJI Pocket 2 shoots better videos than the iPhone 13 Pro (more natural colours, less sharpening, active stabilization, no blurry mess while taking videos at the night while walking or running) and in my opinion it's the best among all other budget vlogging cameras on the market.
I do have 2 separate videos - 13 pro max vs DJI pocket 2 and second one - 13 pro max VS Galaxy s21 ultra (separately for photos and another episode for video) you can check those on the channel.
@@NOlimitsON , yeah, I watched these, but I mean, do you plan to make a direct comparison between DJI Pocket 2 and S21 Ultra? :) Low light photos and videos, especially, just like what you already did with DJI Pocket 2 VS. iPhone 13 Pro.
Great review, thanks! What I really dislike about the iPhone cameras are their proneness to (ugly) flares, which usually look smudgy because the lenses are always dirty on phones. I also like to have physical buttons rather than the phones' touchscreens. The flare resistance on the ZV-1 looks quite promising.
I had a similar experience when I took the Sony ZV-1 for a walk with my old iPhone 13 Mini (the lens inherited from the iPhone 12 Pro) I must say Apple is getting so much better with the software manipulation that the dedicated cameras under $1000 can no longer compete. iPhone is more portable too. I also use GoPro 10 and the video stabilization is simply incomparable to both the iPhone and ZV-1, so, I think I will return my test Sony camera, I cannot justify the $900 and cannot find use for it.
I just wanted to get an iPhone 13 Pro max, would be so handy, BUT those light leaks at night are putting me off... Are they there every lens, including filming in ProRes? After watching most of your iP13 vids, this was the one that makes me think otherwise, had a ZV-1 great camera when used on Zhiyun M2 gimbal with internal steady turned off, you could actually zoom from the gimbal. Anyway, my m4/3 and APS-C mirrorless camera can shoot much much better video in low light than ZV-1 or iPhone.
At the end. It's all depend on how you want to use the photos. For casual shooting to be shared digitally phone camera will be better. But if you wanted to be serious about taking photo then you want to skip the compact and use dslr or mirrorless instead. The only place for compact is when you want fine control of camera when taking photo.
Great work! This is by far the best comparison I've seen and a definite guide for indecisive shoppers like myself. Watching you from Mexico, saludos.
Hola)) Gracias! I appreciate it)) stay tuned mate! There is a lot of great stuff on the channel!
I agree, bro) thank you!!!
Here's the summary,
If you want to zoom, you can get RX100 Mark 7.
@@NinPossible I do more night pics then zoom. I got the ZV1. And I love the camera. Takes good night photos for what I want .
@@jeremybenson5090 Wow, good for you. Congrats and enjoy the ZV1 :)
i still would prefer the iphone. the picture difference is just minimal and if i want the highest quality, i'd rather go for mirrorless or DSLR ones.
Hey ! Wgat do you mean by 'terrible '
Thanks bro) stay tuned!
As far as I know, shooting raw automatically removes smart HDR.
Thank you Vierrad! You did get the name correctly)! I appreciate your words! Stay tuned mate!
I take the iphone. The difference only matters for a pro. If you are a pro, go for a dedicated camera. But I really appreciate the ability to just edit and share all on 1 device.
Hi, would you recommend the sony zv-1 in 2022?
Of course) it’s still a great and versatile camera. I have a full review on it on the channel
Great review!
Thanks mate! I appreciate it!
Man anything is better than a mobile phone
Bruh were not living in 2016 anymore
I’m glad I bought the ZV-1 for $165 and only reason why iPhone look better because they cheated by doing post processing that make the image sharper from what I know
Zv 1 for $165 ? This camera is way expensive. Where from you bought so cheap?
Please compare image quality of iPhone 13 pro with Fuji X100V.
Awesome comparison. I was considering getting a zv-1.
Thanks)
Great video. Good work thanks

Good Video, thanks for this comparsion
Thanks! Stay tuned)
Will we see comparison with pixel 6 pro ??
I guess yes)
I have a feeling that in a blind test, iPhone will all ways win. Most probably, people doesnt care noise, overdharpening, etc. Casual user like me will always go over the overall look, brightness and contrast. Sony pics look gloomy.
Yea but zv1 it has better definition iphone always looks digital and washed out. A phone is design as a phone it wasn’t meant for professional photography. Zv 1 can produce films not a phone on this planet is made to do what zv1 can do.
Are you going to compare the iPhone 14 pro Max as well?
Hope so if I’ll be able to get it in Russia
I wish we could reduce the sharpening on the iPhone, because the HDR is very useful. Hopefully the next DJI Pocket 3 will have 10bit HLG. Wishful thinking.
Wow! I was working servicing cameras when Sony with Canon released the first digital camera recording on a stamp size floppy. Half a megapixel was the start, stills with a dynamic level so low that hardly anybody would believe how the technology can advance. The Iphone 13 is the temporary king of video phone but every day is another day.
My dad bought a Sony Mavica around year 2000 it was a blast to have a digital camera and record photos on a floppy XD
Hey) I only tried working with those in Lightroom…
iphone is impressive, thou apple should consider lowering the digital sharpening that they apply to the image (or at least give the settings to lower it down) as well as increase the sensor size to 1 inch on main and wide angle camera. it would be a true MAX camera.
At 6:17 Why did you shoot video on the zv1 at iso 1600 with the new filter on? Turn off the nd and lower the iso.
The base iso in S-Log for ZV-1 is 1250, you can’t go lower in S-Log
The winning factor for most people will be what fits in their pocket and is it sharp enough, it's how things seem to be going. The world of photography seems to be going sharp and there's not a lot we can do about it. Hopefully this trend will change.
A proper dedicated camera is for the artist which most folk aren't.
Most folk would probably prefer taking pictures at night with night vision like the military use, something our eyes don't even do well at.
If the future is apple, then it looks like our future will keep getting sharper, unfortunately!
Nice review but I was hoping to see cinematic mode vs background defocus
You can watch this comparison in my iPhone 13 pro max vs Sony a7s 3 video comparison

damn quality production man! btw for youtube shooting on iphone 13 pro, do you recommend 24,25 filmic pro, 30 or 60 fps ?
Hey) thank you)) I’d say regular 30p is good enough, and 60p for slow-motion) stay tuned mate)
hope you can also do a camera comparison of the new zv1F version 😊
That’s highly unlikely mate… ZV1f is too bad in my opinion…
Continue like this and your channel will explode in a good way if you understand what I mean I really enjoy your content❤️
Thanks bro)) I Appreciate your words!
Currently i really need a new phone so imma go for iphone 13, but if i didnt need it, i would go for ZV1 or some other video camera
Iphone did great .. glad I got it after having Iphone 7 for years
iPhone 13 cameras are provided by Sony so in conclusion it is a direct comparison of two different Sony products plus it is meaningless to compare a dedicated photography machine with a smartphone. At the end of the day, Sony will still beat all others because of it's ability to capture the natural essence of a particular scene.
Thank you...awesome video comparison
Welcome mate)) stay tuned!
You should try samsung flagship
Oleg, you're the only reviewer who is pointing out the excessive digital sharpening and water painting effect pictures on the iPhone 13 Pro Max or any 13 for that matter. My old iPhone XS Max takes pictures kind of like the ones on the Sony ZV-1. A little bit more noisier, but more detail. What gives?
Hey, thanks) because in XS there was less digital processing, so the picture is more natural, but also noisier
Hat jemand eine Idee warum ich mit meinen iphone 13 pro "nur" 600mbit im download hab bei einer 1000ner Leitung an der selben Position hab ich zb mit einem hd laptop 900+ mbit an was kann das liegen??

Hy man, love ur content! Watching from my 13 pro max! Love from India

Thanks) stay tuned)
Great comparison.
This is what I wanted.
Thank you for the video.
Liked & Subbed !!
Thanks bro! Stay tuned))
Great comparison! My apologies if I missed it in the video but for the stabilization comparison, were you holding the ZV1 with just one hand?
Hey, thanks) yeah, I held both one-handed
@@NOlimitsON Thanks for the clarification!
What's disappointing is seeing that the new Sony ZV-1 really isn't that much better than a high end smartphone. Not even the sound!
Yeah but it's more then half it's price 😏
I had a similar experience when I took the Sony ZV-1 for a walk with my old iPhone 13 Mini (the lens inherited from the iPhone 12 Pro) I must say Apple is getting so much better with the software manipulation that the dedicated cameras under $1000 can no longer compete. iPhone is more portable too. I also use GoPro 10 and the video stabilization is simply incomparable to both the iPhone and ZV-1, so, I think I will return my test Sony camera, I cannot justify the $900 and cannot find use for it.
Are you using max blur? try to take a little down, would be better.
I used around f3,5 blur function
A very good review.

No need for ZV-1 anymore. iPhone looks great, if I need any better than its a full frame Sony A7iii or A7C.
Thanks for this unbiased review. I'm really trying to understand the truth with camera (eg. A7iv) vs smartphones, that if in today's date it is worth buying a camera for serious photography and serious videography. At a lot of channels i have heard the opposite, that the smartphones are beating cameras. You seem to be saying the opposite. Please clarify and guide.
Phones are good for general public.
But professionals always use mirrorless or Dslrs
I’d always go for a proper camera for pro job
