Bought the ZV-1 as my starting content creation camera - tiny indoor studio/worktable setup plus vlogging around the city. The ZV-E10 very quickly became a natural upgrade option, particularly as aps-c is just fine for me, and the Sigma Trio and 18-50 Zoom make a great combo. Basically as a budget one two punch, they're complementary for all my needs. So I ended up buying both :) I have successfully resisted buying the A7IV despite your best efforts :)
@@gigihanmandarin Yeah, I'm yet to be convinced that FF is any kind of imperative. Plus, the money not spent on the A7IV is getting put towards a new pc down the road.

Thank you for this video! I currently have an A7SIII and it is a fantastic camera that gets some superb shots, but for run and gun vlogging it DESTROYS my arms after a long day. I feel like the ZV-1 is the best choice for my next camera just for it’s run and gun capabilities.
They are quite different cameras. I have both, with the ZV-E10 is for more creative stuff and lower light, while the ZV-1 is for lighter weight vlogging, being discrete in places that frown on cameras and for street photography. But I also have added the RX100 VII to make a trio, because the RX100 VII is better for slow motion and the lens gives good tele reach, The trio complement each other, with each being best for something the others are not so good at. I would not want to have to choose between them. While the instant background defocus is just a marketing gimmick to attract amateurs who don't know how to manually change aperture and use ND filters, Product Showcase, which is just marketing words for Focus Proximity Priority, is so useful I think it needs to be added to the PASM on the mode dial on every camera. It would then be PFASM, which sounds sufficiently orgasmic to become a well liked camera world upgrade.
Greetings from Finland Did know anything about ZV 1 until RUclips commercial few weeks back saying it is most selling camera in USA. I have thought compact cameras do not exist anymore. I give honor to Sony manufacuring such a mighty camera. And with so much better bokeh than smart phones. Thank you very much for your information, I've listened it many times.
Nice video, I expected the ZV-E10 to be more of the clear winner for dynamic range but I didn't see you test bright enough situations; due to weather and a lack of sun. I've owned the ZV-1 for about 2 years now. Sold off my G85 and my Olympus M1 MKII. The ZV-1 with the bluetooth remote for zoom in and out and the super slow motion and low cost with lens included was the better value and the ZV-E10 was not even announced when I got my ZV-1 so it wasn't even an option :P.
the best video i Saw so far about these 2 cameras. I think i will buy the zv-1 after this. just because I talk about audio, not video, so I really do not need a very high level video quality, just a good quality and thats'it. I will not buy a 2k bucks lens for my camera just because I am the audio guy, not the video guy, that's it. just leave the FOMO away and buy the ZV-1, but as you said in the conclusions of your video If I will start full screen face video like this i will def buy the 10
I recently switched to the ZV-E10 from not the ZV-1 but a very comparable Sony point and shoot (RX100 variant) and I actually think, in a non-studio outdoors shooting setting, the 1 inch point-and-shoot feels like the better lowlight camera. If we're comparing it with the kit of course. What I find is the ZV-E10 on kit just ends up using a much higher ISO for way more lighting situations. Even if the ZV-E10 on, say, 3200 ISO looks much better than the 1 incher on 3200 ISO, it does not look better than the 1 incher at less than 1600 ISO. F3.5 really just struggles when pit against F1.8 even with the sensor size difference, in my experience. Ofc I then also bought a fast prime for the ZV-E10 and THEN it blows the 1 incher out of the water :)
Help. Both cameras are great. But the vlogging tag confuses a bit. Are these the best choices for regular photography if vlogging is not in our list? Most photos will only be shared on social media, mostly to only family and friends. Videos could be required, but mostly only kids videos or of family trips. Indoor and night photos would be more. But upgrading from a phone is required. RX100 series was the first choice considering the size, quality bump over phones, auto focus etc. But considering the prize, started looking at zv1, and then due to the sensor size and potential for a zoom lens in the future, now considering zve10. Are there other cameras, even outside Sony to be considered at comparable price ranges? Is rx100 series better than zv1 for the use case? Not having a Viewfinder is fine with us.
I mostly do studio talking videos. I still got the ZV1 because it is more compact and has everything inbuilt. Even when i go out, i love the fact that everything i need will fit into my pocket. I don't care about image quality so much to carry an extra camera bag with lenses and ND Filter and what not
Love the videos Mark! I recently found a zve10 used and I'm thrilled with it. Can you do a video on the leemingLUT and what that is and how to apply it?
After 100 hours, I decided to buy a camera, which in my opinion is the best choice. My choice was between cameras Sony ZV1 ii, ZV E10 and pocket 3. Pocket 3 need upgrade in store for 10 bit should pay extra $259, which is the same price for ZV1 ii. It's not fair from DJI because it will lose the customers that it mistreats in this way. It would have been fairer if they had installed a 10 bit system instead of this way. My principle is a definitive decision not for POCKET 3 because of this kind of fraud, if if. That's how business turns out. The second choice is similar to ZV1 ii. How, you tube bloggers say s-log almost 10 bit camera. Well, I have a Sony a7iv R with s log and it's not a camera that supports 10 bit but 8 bot 4 4 0. Likewise, the camera is definitely to have for some unpredictable actions and it's not bad to have it in your pocket, and as for my choice Sony ZV E10 is the best possible combination to have it. I can't put anything first place and then second and so on. I can only say, Price, appearance, and the best possible lenses that go with this camera with all its accompanying elements put this camera as my best possible source. In addition, thanks to many you tubers who presented all these cameras in the best possible way and helped me decide on this SONY camera - ZV E10. I would like to thank Mark this boy for the incredible presentation of not only this e10 camera, but also for presenting all his videos related to all of this. Brother, congratulations and many thanks for everything you present in general. In my opinion, you are one of the best you tubers if not the best of this kind. All the best and a long and happy life. David Las Vegas.
Definitely a great video, and really appreciated. I guess I may have been wrong about the kit lens on “Lil Dougie”. I’m glad you thought to test the 1080p, though, very surprising find.
I tried both Dougie and "Daisy" (??) but realized that the 4k on ZV-1 had a slight crop (1.1?)? Maybe the 1.1 crop was the "26mm" look? As always, great review. My setup: Dougie for inside and planned outdoor shots, by keeping Daisy in my "gym bag" when out for spur of the moment recordings to keep the color grade consistent. Great advice... though you didn't need to put that slo-mo soundtrack in our heads, you supermodel! :-)
Mark: great review, much effort went into it's production. ==== The ZV-1(24-70 lens) uses the 1" sensor, I suspect very similar to the more expensive Sony RX-10/4 & RX100/7. I find the RX-10/4(24-400mm lens) & RX100/7(24-200 lens) are both very capable cameras and I would recommend them for those who needs that capability. I don't recommend the RX-10/3 because the motherboard failed in my camera and the estimate was $500 to replace it. So far both cameras are functioning perfectly and I have used them extensively. . The interchangeable lens ZV-E10 DX/APS-C is probably the less expensive version of the Sony A6xxx-series cameras. If anyone is interested ZV-E10, I would investigate the current production A6600, A6400, & 6100 if they meet your needs. There have been reports on the internet that the price of used ZV-E10 is ~$1,100-$1,200, way over the suggested list price of ~$700. I have a Sony A6600.
That ulanzi tripod stick is looking pretty handy. And your end conclusion seems pretty fair. Zv-1 seems good for daily vlogging use because of portability.
Great test again, Mark! I've already bought the ZV-1 just replacing an older point-and-shoot by Sony. I just wanted to upgrade, no vlogging whatsoever. (well, I just take photos and make videos as an everyday geek dad) I like it and the comparison also comforts me I made a good decision. I would never probably carry and change lenses. I only miss the superzoom but what the hell... Oh, and the slo-mo test.... FFS, please no :D
The ZV1 is actually 9.4mm at its widest on its one inch sensor - which is equivalent to a 16mm on APS-C and equivalent to a full frame at 24mm. In other words, it has the same maximum width at the ZV-E10
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis ah so the physical focal length is ~9 to about ~25mm but they report it in full frame equivalence. I missed that in the spec sheet
hi I know this is an old video but I'm hoping you might be able to help! My ZV1 when connected to my MacBook *only* charges-- it does not connect to mass storage and doesn't show up as an external device on my laptop (like no" ZV1 -- eject" shows up anywhere to verify it is connected). If you have any tips or suggestions please let me know 😭😭 a few other notes, it is set to "USB mass storage" and it's still on Version 1 because I haven't been able to connect it to a computer and download the updates.
Another great review, I was waiting for this one actually. Between both cameras I'm more inclined for the ZV-E10 as it looks like a better overall camera for both pictures and video, given the interchangeable lenses. I have a Galaxy Note20 Ultra and a GoPro Hero8 for outside more dynamic footage and seek to buy this Dougie for RUclips and streaming videos. Any suggestions for mics which could work with all three devices? Thanks and keep those videos coming!
I spent my morning filming talking-head type content for a client. A-camera was my Zv-e10 with an adapted, manual focus nikon 35mm. B-camera was my zv-1 with autofocus just in case. They work well together and are hard to beat for a budget-friendly setup. I've found that 1080p quality is inferior to my Lumix G9 (in 1080) but 4k seems about as good as the G9's 1080. If it wasn't for the record limit on the G9, it'd be a better fit for me (although autofocus is a Sony win of course) . Another thing I noticed was, when using the zv-e10 with a long 210mm sony zoom with active image stabilization in 1080 (filming a speaker on a stage) the aggressive crop resulted in really poor image quality - similar to when you pinch to zoom on a cell phone. Almost unusable and very disappointing. I ended up filming in 4k with the standard lens stabilization to get the quality back up.
Yes, the active stabilization crops in on the sensor, but the quality doesn’t seem to suffer in 4k as there are still enough megapixels for full 4k. Since the 1080 seems to be line-skipped or pixel binned, it appears to be far worse when cropping in. Did you try the active crop with the 4K to see the result?
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I haven't yet - I will get a chance to test this weekend. My theory was that the camera was cropping more aggressively because of the long zoom (I believe that's what the automatic focal length setting does - adjust the crop to match the amount of likely image shake... Or maybe it's adjusting the speed at which the pixel shifting hamsters spin in their wheels). It was some ugly. I'll report back.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I tested it - active stabilization on 4k looks fine. Maybe not as sharp but I'd have to zoom in to see. The other test would be to see if active stabilization on 1080 zoomed way in vs zoomed way out to test the theory that it is worse on a long zoom. I don't know if the camera is that smart to change the aggressiveness as you zoom - I hope there's a good excuse for the poor quality. For now, I'm just learning to live the 4k life.
Roger Dodger - good to see you!! Yes, Hasselblad have really been dragging their feet sending me one. I’m starting to think they’re ignoring my emails.
Thank you Mark for helping me in making a decision between the 2 cameras. I find your videos pretty informative and witty therefore I decided to subscribe to your channel. Keep it up.
I alread have a ZV1 to stream my music lessons and I dont know if buying another zv1 or a zve10... lenses are better but it would end costing me double...
Great video 👍🏻 What camera would you recommend for some one that wants a camera that takes great pictures as well as good video? Thanks for your help 🙏
Im gonna buy my first camera, I want it for my art process but also I love film and photograph nature so I don't wanna regret if I bought the zv1 and knowing that I won't be able to change the lenses. what should I do? Love your video :))
Yeah, I watch a shite load of comparisons and reviews for both cameras before I finally settled on the ZV-E10, and only for the lens variety I could use. Both have their place though and are very similar so I either works great at the price point depending on needs. Was interesting to see the dynamic range of exposure differences in the outdoor vlog test.
I returned the zv1 last because it wasn't wide enough, no idea I could do that catalyst browse thing because no review mentioned it. Now it makes me want to buy again 🤔
Catalyst Browse is not a very popular topic for some reason even though I think it’s great. but if the zv1 isn’t wide enough - why not try the zv-e10 with the Sony 11mm.
Which full frame lens do you think balances best on ZVE1 with a wide enough field of view? I have the Sigma 16-28. I think it might be light enough. Thought of the Sony 20 1.8, but some say it’s a bit tight with dynamic stabilization.
The only video I could find that demonstrated the cameras for us see are the quality for ourselves. Thankyou
So many valuable points one can't find elsewhere: Rolling shutter, 1080p. Thanks. You are the best.

is the rolling shutter only shows when the active stabilization is on? love your vids btw! you're so funny and very entertaining to watch.
That was with no stabilization on
Definitely a great video, and really appreciated. I guess I may have been wrong about the kit lens on “Lil Dougie”. I’m glad you thought to test the 1080p, though, very surprising find.
GREAT details and thorough review! But throw in witty comedy AND a blue background - and you got yourself a subscriber!
Haha - thanks!!
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis oh yeah, almost forgot the beer drinking! - that was the main won! : )
Good to see a happy man with his new camera 😊
Just the A7iv and the ZV-E10 - had to send the ZV1 back to Sony today 😭
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Let slip to Sony (your new best buddy) your birthday..who knows..fingers crossed x
Appreciate this video! Which one do you think is better for food and travel vlogging?
Genuinely such a good video
Great video ZV-E10 all the way.
15:10 why is 1080p on zv1 better than zve10, how do you explain that
the zv-e10 1080 is very soft
I tried both Dougie and "Daisy" (??) but realized that the 4k on ZV-1 had a slight crop (1.1?)? Maybe the 1.1 crop was the "26mm" look? As always, great review. My setup: Dougie for inside and planned outdoor shots, by keeping Daisy in my "gym bag" when out for spur of the moment recordings to keep the color grade consistent. Great advice... though you didn't need to put that slo-mo soundtrack in our heads, you supermodel! :-)
You’re right about thebZV-1- about a 26mm in 4K. Good setup solutions you have. Soundtrack will live rent free in your head for a month.
So that's why I was shaking my head in slow-mo when I stepped into the bathroom in view of the mirror.. it doesn't work well with my crew cut though.
Mark: great review, much effort went into it's production.
====
The ZV-1(24-70 lens) uses the 1" sensor, I suspect very similar to the more expensive Sony RX-10/4 & RX100/7.
Yes, the ZV1 is great for portability. But the ZV-E10 can do it all as long as you don’t mind carrying a small camera bag 📷
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Btw still improving English with you Mark :) Todays new phrase is to leave in the dust :) 🙏
@@ayhancapan 🤣🤣 that is a good one for sure!!
So I’m hearing more slo-mo..l
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis What's next? Ripping off a wet T-shirt? :D Please noooo xD
@@NegyedMisi Great idea - keep ‘em coming 🤣🤣 👕💦
I love your videos man! Great sense of humour
Thanks!!
It's too bad that it's now impossible to get a ZV E10 being discontinued and all. Guess i'll get the the ZV-1 :(
It is too bad about the chip shortage. Hopefully it will be resolved soon so that production can start again
2:15 Im confused why it says zv1 16mm. I thought the widest was 24mm on the zv1?
The ZV1 is actually 9.4mm at its widest on its one inch sensor - which is equivalent to a 16mm on APS-C and equivalent to a full frame at 24mm. In other words, it has the same maximum width at the ZV-E10
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis ah so the physical focal length is ~9 to about ~25mm but they report it in full frame equivalence. I missed that in the spec sheet
I like your sense of humor😂
I like your comment!!
hi I know this is an old video but I'm hoping you might be able to help!
Idk how I missed the notification for this video. Super excited to see these results (giddy even, lol). Aight on the the comparisons, brb.
Comparing two cameras on different price ranges (if we add a fearly good lens to the ZV-E10) is unfair, but even so the ZV1 is absolutely stunning 😲
it a great camera
Thank you man i learn a lot from you
Beautiful video Mark. Just what I needed. Thanks!
Tell me, which model is better to take for dynamic cinematic shooting? Do they both have excellent autofocus?
Another great review, I was waiting for this one actually. Between both cameras I'm more inclined for the ZV-E10 as it looks like a better overall camera for both pictures and video, given the interchangeable lenses. I have a Galaxy Note20 Ultra and a GoPro Hero8 for outside more dynamic footage and seek to buy this Dougie for RUclips and streaming videos. Any suggestions for mics which could work with all three devices? Thanks and keep those videos coming!
The new rode mic go would be good
Awesome vídeo, thank you so much from Brasil! I really appreciate the Sony zv1 and go buy it.
your videos are perfect man! thank u so much
I appreciate that!
Perfect video, really a good work, nice realisation, thank you very much !
Great job and very informative. Cheers
Thanks 👍
hi, how you make really sharp video event using zv1?? mine is a7ii but not as sharp as your video
Mark mark awesome vid thank you!
Toronto represent !!
Awesome comparison mate! (the Best on YT!) , but sadly still waiting for the Hasselblad comparison! 🤔
Roger Dodger - good to see you!! Yes, Hasselblad have really been dragging their feet sending me one. I’m starting to think they’re ignoring my emails.
Great videos! You've helped my with choice so much. Btw - at 17:30 you are comparing two same photographs from zv1
You really did put of work into this excellent comparison video ... I found apple juice labeled IPA to enjoy while watching. Cheers
Thanks, J.R. Gotta love a nice sharp IPA 🍻🍻
very helpful comparison. thanks man
but no, Catalyst Browse really didnt help that Rolling Shutter much. still unacceptable on the ZV-E10
I gonna shoot gym vedios or studio vedio which can i buy
ZV-E10
Thank you Mark for helping me in making a decision between the 2 cameras. I find your videos pretty informative and witty therefore I decided to subscribe to your channel. Keep it up.
Great to hear!
I alread have a ZV1 to stream my music lessons and I dont know if buying another zv1 or a zve10... lenses are better but it would end costing me double...
I brought the ZV 10 after watching your videos now I need the ZV 1 too pleas stop making these videos ya going to bankrupt me 😂🤣👍
I know, right?? I almost bought the ZV1 too today😂 - but I think I'm going to let me bank account take a break for a week
Great video 👍🏻
What camera would you recommend for some one that wants a camera that takes great pictures as well as good video?
Thanks for your help 🙏
look at the a6400 (but handheld video will be shaky - or the Canon R7
Where did you get a 16 mm ZV1? The only ones I see are 24-70.
It’s 16 relative to apsc or 24 relative to full frame. It’s actually a 9.4mm on a one inch sensor
Man your jokes are so amazing, keep it up 😂
🤣🤣
Came for the comparison, stayed for the comedy.
best kind of person!!
lol your videos are very entertaining actually 😍
Im gonna buy my first camera, I want it for my art process but also I love film and photograph nature so I don't wanna regret if I bought the zv1 and knowing that I won't be able to change the lenses. what should I do? Love your video :))
I would get the zv-e10 in your case
Due to the 10 bit recording of the A74 the colour in your background is sooo smooth
previously it showed a bit of banding
I’ve been using 10-bit for a while on the GH5 - I’ll see if it’s the same on those vids
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis May be because i was watching them in 1080 p
i just realised now
today i accidentally started watching in 4k 😂

Great video and amazing comparison Mark. Zve10 for the win in my opinion. Stay well my friend.
Great job. Fun and instructive, thank you. Wish has the best onboard audio in your opinion ?
Thanks!! They use the same onboard mic and I really can’t hear much of a difference in them.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis thank you Mark. Your channel is on the rise, good luck !
Get the Ulanzi stick on wide angle. Works a treat.
Hey Mark- very nice work- - if you could help- Im an actress need easy camera w studio quality for at home self tapes?? Which camera? TY
the ZV-E10
What’s the best camera for podcasts?
out of these two - the zv-e10
Which full frame lens do you think balances best on ZVE1 with a wide enough field of view? I have the Sigma 16-28. I think it might be light enough. Thought of the Sony 20 1.8, but some say it’s a bit tight with dynamic stabilization.
The 16-28 would be one of the best choices
Would you still get a rolling shutter if you have a stabilizing gimbal?
It depends. You won’t see a lot of rolling shutter in your regular shooting, but fast moving objects like cars or bikes will still look slanted.
Have you, or can you, make a video on how to use that color card with the Sony ZV-E10?
I haven't done one specifically with the ZV-E10 - but I did one with the GH5 and its basically the same ruclips.net/video/1L5tsRPqSCA/видео.html
