Hi. Yes you can absolutely use a Full Frame lense (FE) on a APS-C body. It also works with APS-C lense (E) on a Full frame body but you will have to use the cropped mode or you will deal with huge vignetting.
its a thing Sony did while ago,,, they use same lens mount for both APSC & FULL FRAME cameras so you can exchange lenses between diff bodies/sensor size========with advantages/disadvantages of course
I use it as my primary lens on A7III (VERY versatile lens). There is also Tamron 17-28 if you need wider. I think Tamron was limiting focal range to keep lens size better balanced with mirrorles bodies.
Great video. I have a copy of this lens sitting right next to me right now because I rented it. I own an A6400 and thought it might replace my Sony 35mm F1.8 and my 16-55 Kit kens. Unfortunately, I'm really torn on it. I don't really mind the close end because I own a Rokinon/Samyang 12mm F2.0 for the wide end (Landscape and Street) and I want a mid-range. But - and this is where I'm torn: It has NO OSS. I knew that before I rented it (this is the reason I wanted to test it). And the F2.8 is nice - but even if I use my "dang old kit lens" at say 50mm with F4 or F5 - it still beats the hell out of this lens because it has steady shot and compensates for that shutter speed. Yes the Bokeh might not be as creamy but I still have OSS. The next best thing to use then might be the 18-105G PowerZoom which I dislike because I don't do video or just shell out nearly double the price and get the 16-55G. What is your impression when using it on the A6100 without IBIS? Did you notice any significant mess-ups because you had no OSS? Lens will be sent back next week but I really, REALLY don't know what to do.
I have the Sigma 16mm without OSS and I dont have an issue without it. In my opinion the advantage of that OSS is very limited. When I compare the pictures from the Kit lens with the Sigma - I am asking myself why I did not buy a new lens in the first place... Sharpness is no matter of the OSS.
@Black3ternity I really like the Tamron 28-75, but I have the same concerns about the missing OSS like you, because I like shooting in low light. Would you share your decision and if you are happy with it? Btw, at the moment I have almost the same lenses like you (Samyang 12mm, Sony 35mm, Sony 18-135mm) but it would be great to have a fast zoom lens. The Sony 16-55G is way to expensive in my oponion, especially when you consider that it doesn't have an OSS as well.
16 mm and 30mm without OSS is ok But if 56mm until 75mm or 85mm without oss on a6400 not recommended if you shooting video handheld.. Therefore telephoto lens must have oss
not gona happen...you can get the 18-35 1.8 with the mc-11. but the autofocus isn't great and the autofocus noise makes it almost unusable for video use
Thanks for the good video. I would be interested in seeing you review the Tamrom 17-28 on APS-C. I was worried you were going to fall over when you were walking backwards, and I couldn’t follow what you were saying. Though they look nice, not sure how much value your on-location to-camera pieces are adding-I also liked your old setup at home for pieces to camera.
If you want the 16mm perspective just use your phone. Honestly phone cameras have gotten so good they cover off the ultra wide angle to normal wide angle very nicely and for most applications the quality is probably close to indistinguishable. Phones can’t do telephoto though. So to me it’s more important to have the longer lenses on the ‘real’ camera.
The lack of OIS on this lens is a deal breaker for everything other than the A6600 and A6500 which have IBIS. I would never use anything other than an ultra wide angle lens with no IS in the body or the lens.
you just read my mind with this video! I´m not convinced with any aps-c zoom lens for my a6100, I started looking for full frame alternatives... This lens with my 16mm 1.4 would cover all my needs. Amazing video as always, thank you very much.
Great job. One correction, the close focusing distance is much shorter at 28mm. here is what it says on the Tamron website: Minimum Object Distance 0.19m (7.5 in) (WIDE) / 0.39m (15.3 in) (TELE) Maximum. Magnification Ratio 1:2.9 (WIDE) / 1:4 (TELE)
You should give Sigma 24-70 f2.8 DG DN a try. I know it's a bit too heavy for aps-c cameras but it is pretty great lens. I'm using it on my A7III, it has super fast AF, nice bokeh at f2.8 and very sharp image quality.
I just got this lens and it is sooo nice not having to swap out prime lenses every 10 minutes on a portrait shoot. I highly recommend it. Plus you can even do semi-macro shots.
The Tamron 28-75 is a nice lens, but not for APS-C. 28 mm (eq 42) is not wide enough for 95 % of users. And the 17-28 is not versatile at all. Insted of buying both of them the Sony 16-55 2.8 G is a much better choice for APS-C.

Looking for a good lens to pair with the kit lens so I cover all major focal lengths with just two lenses, I’m thinking this is the one, what is the focal length numbers when adding in 1.5% crop?
I get confused, but grateful for any clarification... since this is a full frame lens, should you be multiplying the focal length by 1.5 to get the APS-C equivalent? Shouldn’t you be dividing by 1.5 instead?
For zoom 2.8 is usually way higher than that. Sony 24-70 2.8 is $2000 so for less than half the price normal people wouldn’t expect the quality this lens is for $800.
I have a suggestion. I think it would be better if u give EXIF data alongside ur photo samples, just wonder of the settings. Nice review by the way... 👍

The Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 is practically glued to my a7iii, but I rarely use it in the a6400 because of the wide end. It works, but has really limited use on the a6xxx in my opinion
It’s completely different. I use the both Tamrons on Apsc and FF. Therefore it’s an perfect combo. I love it. And yeah the combo is much better than the 18 105. I owned that and sell it a few months ago. Also the Zeiss 16 70 was not as Good as the Tamrons. They are much sharper at all and usable on both Apsc and FF.
TheGreatGandalf09 why did you sell the 18-105...the only appeal of it is the zoom range, internal zoom and oss. But I want to shoot mostly on the wide end so the tan 17-28 with its 2.8 aperture seems more appealing...only issue is no oss, but I guess with a gimbal the lack of oss should not be an issue

Thank you for the review, if possible could you tell me how the auto focus of this works on old sony lines ( like 6000 or 7rii) Best
Tamron 35mm f2. 8 please 🙏
I’m dizzy. U r moving too much lol
The Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 is practically glued to my a7iii, but I rarely use it in the a6400 because of the wide end. It works, but has really limited use on the a6xxx in my opinion
Agreed!
How much does it cost
A6000 crying sounds ☹️
Thank you ❤️🙏
Sony a6100 vs a6400 Which is the best Camera...?
The A6400.
Sell me your seiko please?
Video quality is great! What camera and lens did you use when shooting the outdoor portion?
Sigma 56mm! amzn.to/2IZ02oZ
Agree not wide enough. I would like to see a review of the new Sony 20mm 1.8 with APS-C.
Just use 16 1.4 and crop it a little. Half price, only tad bigger and heavier but you also got 16mm
Great video. What camera and lens did you use to shoot this video?
A6600 + Sigma 56mm.
Is it always in f2.8? Or can I use it at f4 or f8?? Thank you.
Yes. You can't go less than 2.8 but always can go up.
The bookeh on the walking footage is damn creamy
indecentWording probably the Sigma 16mmF1.4
Aparatly the 56mm
Working with the 17-28 on Apsc works fine! Try it!👍
TheGreatGandalf09 no autofocus issues?
Would you choose it over the Sony 18-105 for an app-c camera?
It’s completely different. I use the both Tamrons on Apsc and FF. Therefore it’s an perfect combo. I love it. And yeah the combo is much better than the 18 105. I owned that and sell it a few months ago. Also the Zeiss 16 70 was not as Good as the Tamrons. They are much sharper at all and usable on both Apsc and FF.
TheGreatGandalf09 thanks for the response ....apppreciated
TheGreatGandalf09 why did you sell the 18-105...the only appeal of it is the zoom range, internal zoom and oss. But I want to shoot mostly on the wide end so the tan 17-28 with its 2.8 aperture seems more appealing...only issue is no oss, but I guess with a gimbal the lack of oss should not be an issue
