Seems like the a6100 doesn't have a flat profile, was that a issue to you? Did you tweak the camera settings (Contrast/Saturation/Sharpness)? Out of the camera, “no picture profile” looks pretty good in terms of color - you can tweak the color/contrast/sharpness a bit by using Creative Styles, but it’ll be pretty limited. Fortunately, you can get pretty far without picture profiles in my opinion! As for those lenses, they will be crop lenses - good news: on cameras like the a73 and a7r4, you can use APS-C mode for video with no resolution loss! Bad news: in photos, you will be cropping in the amount of pixels you’ll have. But, I’d try to think whether you’d upgrade that fast from APS-C to FF, either way, lenses hold their resale value well if you maintain them!
Bro, this is the best review I’ve seen for the a6100. Just bought one, and wanted info on lenses for vlogging. You gave me a more cost friendly option over the Sony E 10-18 f4, just wondering if you had a problem with stabilizing since the lens you mentioned has no OSS.
The 10-18 is amazing bc it’s the most stable I’ve come across for vlogging and it’s light weight (key) but yes it’s pricey! These lenses are great for vlogging, I’d just recommend maybe pairing it with a cheaper stabilizer (AK2000 or Weebill Lab) and also practice your “vlog walk”, to get more stable footage while vlogging! Practice makes perfect!

Looking to finally buy my first proper camera, I've been shooting with my OnePlus 7 Pro and it's a really for everyday use if you're using manual settings, but video and low-light performance are not of the highest level. I was considering the a6000 but the lack of a 3.5mm jack and no 4K are deal breakers for me compared to this one, will likely get this or a Fujifilm at a similar price point after I do my research. Great vid, especially recommending the 2 lenses as I would probably just get the body since the kit lens is meh

I’m not familiar with the longer ranges but I’d wager you should look into reviews for lenses like the Sigma 100-400 f/5.6-6.3, Sony E 70-350 f/4.5-6.3 G, or the Sony E 18-200 f/3.5-6.3!

Are these lenses good enough and will I be needing anything else? I want to use the camera for professional purposes like advertisement videos and photos Thank you
If you're planning on doing professional work, you'll eventually want to upgrade to sharper lenses as the kit lenses are not the best. BUT, if this is your first time using a mirrorless/DSLR camera, I'd say for the price, they're worth owning so you can practice shooting subjects at different focal lengths and learn how lenses work - but otherwise, I'd just be ready to buy nicer lenses to produce better work! I edit in Adobe Premiere :)

I would have loved to see video with the kit lense. To show how it actually looks to people who aren't used to cameras, and maybe just need to learn what mm they like. For me, I'm looking for a good Webcam that can double as a vlog camera, but I have no idea what lense I need.
For your needs, I think the kit lens would suffice at first (especially since it’s pretty inexpensive to grab that along with the body) - you can hdmi it to your desktop if you literally mean as a webcam (for streaming I’d imagine). Additionally, it’d definitely work as a vlog lens - you just won’t be able to truly selfie mode (you’ll be pretty big in the frame since it’s not wide enough for vlogging, but you don’t have to selfie view with the camera to vlog, you can always set it down and talk as opposed to walking and talking)

Brother awesome video i will buy this camera for vlogging and photography just 2 quick questions 1 - the camera doesnt have video stabilization so no problem still we can make non shaky videos? 2 - I have the budget to get just one lens so should i go with sigma 30 mm or 16 mm? 1) Id recommend getting a gimbal for stable footage, but you can also do a lot w/ tripod & handheld technique! 2) I would get the 16, especially if you’re planning on vlogging. It’s super versatile and a great lens to have!

Great video! I wish I had watched this video first. I make food videos so I ended up buying a Sony a6400 with 18-135 kit lens for around $1200. If I had watched this video first. I would have bought 2 a6100 instead as they would cost about the same as 1 a6400. Sadly I don’t use any picture profiles :(. Slog 2 or 3 isn’t that great to be honest.
SLOG-2/3 have their place in narrative productions / or if you just really want to maximize the dynamic range from a camera, but yes it's not necessary. However, don't fret! Take advantage of using picture profiles like HLG. I find that it's much more forgiving and gives you more room to breathe when color correcting / grading your videos!
If you're able to move around when shooting those photos (i.e., on the side lines) then I'd recommend the Sigma 56mm f/1.4 for amazing image quality with nice background blur to isolate the action! If, however, you're only sitting say in the bleachers, then I'd recommend something with a much tighter focal length, I'd consider the telephoto kit lens, the Sony 55-200, because the reach will be important! Funny how I’m literally having the same question, but I’m still leaning more towards the zV-1, some of the reasons are: - The side screen, a decent microphone with that little dead mouse or windscreen, that crazy object focus, plus I’m getting it on Amazon they have a deal going on including the mini tripod, an extra 3 battery pack with the charging station. I think those are some serious considerations to put up.

Great video! I’m looking to get into vlogging, but also take some great photos. I’m debating between the Sony A6100 and the ZV-1. Really torn between these two cameras. Which would you recommend?
I honestly don’t know enough about the ZV-1 but from what I’ve gathered - great point and shoot, has better vlog centric features than the a6100, but the only thing that makes me hesitant is the lack of ability to use interchangeable lenses - If you can live without that, then I think the ZV-1 might be the better choice!
The main reason I even want a camera is cause of a tik tok showing these awesome photos of random strangers in the street. Those photos look so cool and are my main reason to try a great camera
I was using an a6600 and the 16mm f/1.4! 😁 Though you’d get the exact same footage with the a6100 since I shot it without using a picture profile to get them to match to the best of my ability!
Superb superb superb review! Am really thinking of an entry mirrorless. You sorted every questions. But the 6100 with kit costs a bit less than 6400 only body. What shall I do? Have heard sony lenses are super expensive.
Thank you. I’m looking for the best mirrorless or DSLR for around $1200 or less (body only) to record my nieces. One is a gymnast and the other does local community theater. I will be purchasing a 70-200mm f2.8 lens for whatever body I choose as well. I’m looking for eye autofocus that functions in 4k. Some have suggested Sony a6600 (I’m a little concerned about the rolling shutter) others have suggested Canon M6 Mark ii (some have said eye autofocus doesn’t work in 4k) Any help from other viewers would also be appreciated.
If you don't have to whip pan, the a6600 would be great thanks to the fast and smooth eye AF, which will make your life easier to get usable shots. Of course, you'll just have to be mindful and work around the rolling shutter (though in my experience, it's definitely manageable). Though, you'll have to rely on someone else to chime in on non-Sony bodies :)

This video was awesome David! I just bought this camera for vlogging and for some reason, my video/vlog came out very shakey but yours seemed so smooth in this video with this camera, is there any specific recommendations you have or a way you set it up so that its not shaky!?
There's two ways to address the shakiness, 1) you could get an OIS (optical image stabilization) lens like the Sony 10-18 f/4 for vlogging/travel type shooting and 2) I'd highly recommend looking at some budget gimbals similar to the FeiyuTech Ak2000 / Zhiyun Weebill Lab to stabilize your footage!

Additionally, it’d definitely work as a vlog lens - you just won’t be able to truly selfie mode (you’ll be pretty big in the frame since it’s not wide enough for vlogging, but you don’t have to selfie view with the camera to vlog, you can always set it down and talk as opposed to walking and talking)

1) Id recommend getting a gimbal for stable footage, but you can also do a lot w/ tripod & handheld technique!
2) I would get the 16, especially if you’re planning on vlogging. It’s super versatile and a great lens to have!

I wish I had watched this video first. I make food videos so I ended up buying a Sony a6400 with 18-135 kit lens for around $1200. If I had watched this video first. I would have bought 2 a6100 instead as they would cost about the same as 1 a6400. Sadly I don’t use any picture profiles :(. Slog 2 or 3 isn’t that great to be honest.
SLOG-2/3 have their place in narrative productions / or if you just really want to maximize the dynamic range from a camera, but yes it's not necessary. However, don't fret! Take advantage of using picture profiles like HLG. I find that it's much more forgiving and gives you more room to breathe when color correcting / grading your videos!
This video came at the perfect time! What lens would you recommend for youth sports (my children)? Still the portrait lens?
If you're able to move around when shooting those photos (i.e., on the side lines) then I'd recommend the Sigma 56mm f/1.4 for amazing image quality with nice background blur to isolate the action! If, however, you're only sitting say in the bleachers, then I'd recommend something with a much tighter focal length, I'd consider the telephoto kit lens, the Sony 55-200, because the reach will be important!

Funny how I’m literally having the same question, but I’m still leaning more towards the zV-1, some of the reasons are: - The side screen, a decent microphone with that little dead mouse or windscreen, that crazy object focus, plus I’m getting it on Amazon they have a deal going on including the mini tripod, an extra 3 battery pack with the charging station. I think those are some serious considerations to put up.

Great video! I’m looking to get into vlogging, but also take some great photos. I’m debating between the Sony A6100 and the ZV-1. Really torn between these two cameras. Which would you recommend?
I honestly don’t know enough about the ZV-1 but from what I’ve gathered - great point and shoot, has better vlog centric features than the a6100, but the only thing that makes me hesitant is the lack of ability to use interchangeable lenses - If you can live without that, then I think the ZV-1 might be the better choice!

I was using an a6600 and the 16mm f/1.4! 😁 Though you’d get the exact same footage with the a6100 since I shot it without using a picture profile to get them to match to the best of my ability!
Superb superb superb review! Am really thinking of an entry mirrorless. You sorted every questions. But the 6100 with kit costs a bit less than 6400 only body. What shall I do? Have heard sony lenses are super expensive.
Thank you. I’m looking for the best mirrorless or DSLR for around $1200 or less (body only) to record my nieces. One is a gymnast and the other does local community theater. I will be purchasing a 70-200mm f2.8 lens for whatever body I choose as well. I’m looking for eye autofocus that functions in 4k. Some have suggested Sony a6600 (I’m a little concerned about the rolling shutter) others have suggested Canon M6 Mark ii (some have said eye autofocus doesn’t work in 4k) Any help from other viewers would also be appreciated.
If you don't have to whip pan, the a6600 would be great thanks to the fast and smooth eye AF, which will make your life easier to get usable shots. Of course, you'll just have to be mindful and work around the rolling shutter (though in my experience, it's definitely manageable). Though, you'll have to rely on someone else to chime in on non-Sony bodies :)

Make sure you have the Imaging Edge Mobile app on your phone and follow the instructions within the app to connect to your camera!

This video was awesome David! I just bought this camera for vlogging and for some reason, my video/vlog came out very shakey but yours seemed so smooth in this video with this camera, is there any specific recommendations you have or a way you set it up so that its not shaky!?
There's two ways to address the shakiness, 1) you could get an OIS (optical image stabilization) lens like the Sony 10-18 f/4 for vlogging/travel type shooting and 2) I'd highly recommend looking at some budget gimbals similar to the FeiyuTech Ak2000 / Zhiyun Weebill Lab to stabilize your footage!
