      As of today, Zeiss 16-70 f/4 and 55-210 f 4.5. Considering an upgrade, on both though the upgrade is pricey and IDK if it will make a visual difference in prints up to 11x14.

      I have a 18-105 f4. I mostly shoot video and wanted the constant aperture. I like it a little more than the 18-135 kit but honestly the image quality is almost identical. I was hoping it would be a little sharper, but all in all it isn't bad. I'm liking that super. I'm liking the super zoom you mentioned. Seems pretty good.

      I only have one for my 6400; the 10-18. For the a7iii; 24-70GM, 16-35 f/4 and 70-200 f/4. Eventually, before I die, I'll get the 100-400 or the 200-600.

    The 10-18mm f4 and 18-105mm f4 are particularly interesting for videographer. Sony tech support told me that while they are not technically parfocal, they are designed to communicate with the camera to automatically make continuous adjustments so they behave as if parfocal. Of course the power zoom function is also valuable.

    Only 3 lenses u need for Sony APSC: The Sigma Triad. 1. Sigma 30mm f1.4 dc dn (45mm full frame equivalent)
    2. Sigma 16mm f1.4 dc dn
    3. Sigma 56mm f1.4 dc dn (85mm full frame equivalent)
    I'd choose Sony 18-105mm f4 as well if you need a versatile native lens.

    Excellent review! But now (early 2021) there is an alternative to the Sony 16-55, in the new Tamron 17-70 f2.8: cheaper than the Sony, longer reach, and image stabilized.
    Also, I think one thing could be debated about your recommendations: you describe the Sony 70-350 G lens as relatively light and small, and while that is true if you compare it to full frame lenses, you did not mention the obvious comparison, the Sony 55-210. I realize the 55-210 is nowhere near the sharpness of the 70-350, but it is almost half the weight, and super cheap, so it is a great option if someone doesn't need the super long reach of the 70-350, and if their budget is limited.

  • @osvaldoverduzco3900
    @osvaldoverduzco3900 Год назад

    I considered the Sony SEL 16-55 but resisted and I am glad I did. I now own both the Tamron 16-70 f/2.8 and Sigma 18-50 f/2.8. I use the Tamron on one camera for stills and the sigma on another camera with a gimbal for video. I also own the 70-350. These are the three lenses I now use almost exclusively. I also purchased the Tamron 11-20 f/2.8 to cover a wider range.

    Been happy and surprised how good the 18-135 has been. That's what is on my 6600 95% of the time, and I have the 35mm 1.8 for a small fixed prime that give excellent results. Currently, can't even think of a third lens need. Something from the G or Master G series, but they are heavy and $.

    • @schnubbel76
      @schnubbel76 Год назад +1

      18-135 is so versatile, and it is small and compact, you can take it everywhere and do so much with that zoom-range. It is also quite sharp. Only downside it is not very usable in low light situations. But your 35/1.8 helps you there, also a great lens. I own them both as well.

    I have an 18-105 g oss lens. it pairs up with the 10-18 perfectly, picks up where the other lens left at the same f4 apperture. the stabilisation on this zoom is awesome, it has internal zoom so it does not extend and yeah, it`s a versatile work horse. all it`s missing is maybe an f2.8 or lower. the 10-18mm would need the better apperture even more than the 18-105 though.

      @robertmcdaniel7788 4 года назад +1

      @@MPD90 I use the a7iii with the 24-70, almost like my main combination (which is kinda of weird since I prefer primes). The a6400 is so darn small and easy to pack/carry. I just got back from Morocco and carried both cameras. The alleys were pretty tight and the 10-18mm was perfect. Plus I wanted to be inconspicuous, not flashing around the big ass 24-70 and a7iii. Most of the natives really don't like having their photos taken. Nor did I want to change lenses in that sort of environment. So having both cameras with the lenses, it worked out fine. When I went to Iceland, I took just the a7iii with the 24-70. I may have taken my 85mm, too. I am still getting accustomed to both cameras and the choices of lenses available. Hope that helps.

      I do agree, a6400 + 10-18mm seems like a compact point and shoot camera. Even if the lense is not for portrai shooting, it can get the job done in the crowd without having them to curious about. I took my a6400+10-18mm and the crowd is not mind as I seem like normal tourist with small point and shoot cam.

    Those are nice lenses but of course you'd agree it depends on the end application. In my case I take primarily portraits and events. The focal range I use most on my aps-c cameras fall in the 30mm to 85mm (127 in 35mm) range. My most wide angle is 16mm which I find suits my needs well and I have no use for wider. For portraits and indoor events I use primes with f1.4 or f1.8 which is outside the realm of most zooms.
    I do use zooms for vacation and walk-around lenses but not for my best work.

    I've been shooting a long time and have a full frame system. But, lately I thought I would pick up a new camera just for fun. I thought about getting a Fuji X-T2 and a standard zoom. But, since I shoot Sony cameras and lenses, I decided to get the a6600, 16-55 G, and 70-350mm G. Maybe the 10-18mm wide angle zoom that I tried is a bad copy, but I cannot recommend that lens. I'll use this system when I don't want to take my full frame system. I agree, this is a great system for beginners. If you can't afford to buy the whole system, buy the body and the 16-55mm G and add the 70-350mm G when you can.

    Just bought both the Sigma 100-400 DG DN OS, and the Sony 70-350 to compare which to keep. I expected the Sigma to win. Technically, it is a much better lens. But for me, as hard as I tried to prove the Sigma, the Sony outperformed it. Surprised me, and saved me over $200! And it is a perfect partner for my sel18135, which is an awesome and affordable lens. Those would be 2 of my choices, and I am still on the hunt for a good wide angle lens.

    I would like the SEL1018. I have an SEL18200LE which is fairly good and versatile with it's large range. Those would make a great pair I think. I also have the 20mm that I rarely use unless I want something compact (or to put it on my drone) and I have the SEL35F18 which is great for low light with its F1.8. The SEL1670Z would be really nice with its constant aperture but then that's doubling up on focal lengths.

    Once you are addicted to quality its hard to move back, definitely its hard with 10-18, at least for me sharpness and colors are important. 16-55 is obvious perfection but not so sure about 70-350. Shooting with f1.4 and f6.3 is way different, though primes got no zoom, and apsc no dedicated 56+ lens, 105mm f1.4 sigma would make some worthy shots at 157mm.
    Zoom is great but its not all, if you can shoot at low iso, with dreamy bokeh, you wouldn't care about additional 1.6kg in your bag.
    As for superwide I would either buy laowa 9mm or FullFrame camera with 12-24 lens. There is just so much you can do about missing lens, so lonely in apsc emount lens space.

    • @adam_mawz_maas
      @adam_mawz_maas 3 года назад +1

      The 10-18 badly needs either a 50% price cut, a revamp or both. It's wildly too much money for the solid but unexceptional performance. Quite frankly, it doesn't stand up well to pretty much every other UWA zoom for crop sensor in the similar price range (like Fuji's decidedly better 10-24/4 OIS), its one redeeming quality is the AF, which is very good for video.
      It would be a good value at $400USD. Sony's FE 70-300G suffers from the same issues, performance of a $400 lens for $800 more than that.
      Son's APS-C line is very weak at the wide end, only the wide range of available 3rd party lenses rescues it. They've filled out a bunch of options on the long end, but only offer a single lens wider than 16mm (Fuji is the opposite, lots of wider options, but one lens longer than 230mm)
