In the end I bought the A6100 with kit lens and extra goodies package for 749 shipped to my door. The A6400 is 998. 250 dollars could go towards a Sigma 16mm F1.4 or something else.

Correction on your video (time stamp 2:50) when you mentioned the dreaded 29:59 record limit. I have the Sony a6100 and I can record continuesly past 30 minutes. which is one of the many reasons that I purchased the Sony a6100 over the Canon M50. The Sony a6100 does NOT have the 30 minute video record limit.

correct, however, I suspect that the base price is marked up higher because within the 3-year period their marketing plan will throw a lot of discount on this model. Just my thoughts though.
Richard Butler from Dpreview commented under his A6100 review article about some pricing strategies by camera companies in general. I'm not 100% agree with his point or the business practice but I'd like to hear your thoughts.
It's not under spec'd under any point of view, the theoric lack of color profiles can be simulated, and steady shoot is not good enough on a6600, on the other side it has the best af on the planet, a great sensor and that little size, makes a perfect camera B for even professionals, a perfect camera for vloging, and ideal camera for students as knowing how to you it you can get some serious money with those specs, by the way I'm a professional photographer my main camera is an A7 riii and definitely buying this new a6100

Does the Sony a6100 or a6400 allow you to record internally with an HDMI monitor connected? I have the Panasonic G7 which i have loved so far. However i am thinking of either getting another g7 since I already have a bunch of mft lens...or switch to a budget sony. The draw back i have with the g7 is that I cant record internally while using an external monitor...and i found the lilliput a7s monitor to be perfect but had to return it.

Does anyone know which camera similar to these ones, or out of these ones, or the Canon M50 similar in price that has the best stabilization? I'm going from the GoPro hero black 7 which has really good stabilization and want to upgrade to a camera like these ones but the stabilization doesn't look as good? Thanks!

Is there an issue with overheating on the A5100, there's lots of video's on youtube which seem to say its a design fault.
Working to get out of doing my videos with the GP Hero 8 I am looking at the a6100 ($600)vs a6400 ($900). I know very little about cameras and will be using for YT videos and some outside shots and videos. Is the extra $300 worth it for the 6400? I already have the E-mount 16-50 lens that will fit either.

Ya I had alpha camera like 6-7 years back and was annoy with the limited recording time. I'm shock to know they just fixed this in 2019's 6400

Hey Everyday Dad. Can you please confirm if the 30 min recording limit is present in a6100. Other youtubers like dpreview didnt mention it. Jordan from dpreview said that video recording limit is same as a6400,. Also does this camera overheat while shooting 4k videos?

Can you please clarify what you mean when you say the a6100 has a 30 minute video recording limit? Does that just mean if you hit record and let it go, it will stop at 30 minutes and all you have to do is press the record button again to start a new recording?
yep exactly, although there was a mistake made, since the a6100 doesn't have that restriction.

I am really inclined to buy the Sony a6400 for all of good characteristics, but the price is something to consider… Now that B&H has the a6100 body only at $598… Do you thinks that is a great deal? Is now the time to buy it? I want to make a wise decision. Although I really like all the extra features in the a6400, the deal in a6100 are taking me amazed!
I have been looking for something to take nice video and photos on the trail when we ride my side by side. I just started making gopro videos just under a year ago and for what they do they are great. But no manual controls and I have always wanted to get a decent camera to fool around with. But now im down the rabbit hole after 2 weeks of watching videos about Canon and Sony (only 2 im really interested in), The sony definitely won out. Im going to get the a 6400 but not sure which kit lens I want. 16 to 50 mm or 18 to 135? Im leaning toward the longer lens so I can get better action shots from a distance. What do you guys think? Any down side to a lens with a wider range? Yes, I know the Sony wont let me get it wet or too dusty. Just want to get some good shots when we stop at nice scenery or happen on a group of Appalachian Americans sending it through a mudhole. LOL

just being curious: for a6100, since it does not have picture profile, then what Black level, Gamma, Black Gamma, Knee, Color Mode, Saturation, Color Phase, and Color Depth does it shoot in? all in default? then what is the default? in particular, what is the default Gamma? Thanks!
in addition, how should I tweak the "color setting" in the viedo-shooting mode in a6100 (except from Creative Style and Picture Effect and white balance)? which color space am I shooting in when using a6100?

If you want a camera with good autofocus go with the A6400 if you want a camera with better stabilization go lumix g9.

What I've learned here that no other RUclips reviewer has said: the A6400 has a lot of log profiles that the A6100 doesn't have. To me, that's the winning argument to get the Sony A6400.

You talk about PP1 all the time, but the Picture Profile options are just containers that you can customize. My PP1 can be different than yours if I change settings in there. All PP containers contain the same settings within so we don’t know if you went in and tweaked things in there to fit your needs...Also, would the a6100 allow you to go into the settings to recreate the “PP1” look?
Can you pls make a comparison between a6400 and eos rp considering the pricing is almost the same on the market right now.
Interestingly, in the Vlog video footage the skin tone for 6100 was nicer and warmer!

The m50 has digital image stabilization. From what I’ve heard it can make your footage look jelly/ wobbly like at time w/ the stabilization on. So not sure how good it really is. Both the cameras if paired w/ a lens with stabilization should be about the same. I have the 6300 which also doesn’t have ibis. An with an 18mm lens that has stabilization it’s pretty good. So either or

You use it when you can’t take a pic of the snow leopard through a chain link fence..
How you use it is you set the camera to manual and twist the focus ring until the camera is focusing on the subject

No, just shoot RAW and edit the files in Lightroom or Photoshop. If you intend to do ANY serious video with colour grading etc, I'd say slog is very important.

Ahh! This is tempting as the Black Friday sales price is 748 for the bundle with the 16-50mm lens.
I disagree solely because it’s mainly a software restriction on the a6100. The $100 sounds about right due to the a6400 having better body quality. Otherwise, dropping the price to even $200 would be a bit of a ripoff considering it’s just a software restriction in the LOG settings. I’m pretty sure you can hard mod an a6100 to enable the extra LOG settings.

I just bought my a6300 and I'm lovin it. Love the photo and video quality though I'm only using the kitlens. On this video, a6400 is superior but I think a6100 will do the job.

Now it's about a $200 difference(I've seen the a6100 new for $600 now ), but it's still hard to choose because the a6400 just seems more solidly built and has unlimited video recording.

I know this is late. But the a6100 has always had unlimited recording. They just didn’t advertise it. Big fan.

A6600 has a lot better battery, and ibis. other than that they both identical.
EVF is different. I am getting old and cannot see the back screen too well. EVF is critical for me. How is a6100 compare with a6400?
