  • A video that shows how to fix an issue where your Roomba 980 or similar model Roomba produces error code 2 every 2 or so minutes, which says debris is caught in the extractors, regardless of being clear.

    I've had my J7+ a little over 2 months...I've followed all the maintenance instructions to the letter and had no problems until today. I've spent the last hour cleaning, cursing, and troubleshooting until I came across your video. I DO NOT HAVE WORDS ADEQUATE ENOUGH TO THANK YOU! Zoidberg is completely back to normal. 😁🙏🏻

    Thank you for this video. Have had our Roomba for a couple of years and never knew that those yellow ends came off. I was frustrated because after only a minute or two I got the same message and I thought I had already cleaned the extractors. Little did I know that the ends needed to be removed to clean the inside. I watched several other videos and none of them showed removing those end caps to clean the shaft behind, Good work and thanks again.

    Really appreciate this video; like many others, I never thought to remove the yellow plug at the end of the rollers. You've done your fellow Roomba devotees a solid.

    Thank you so much for posting this! You saved me a ton of time and headache. I would have never thought to take off the end of the extractors.

    First, Good pointer on what to look for.
    Second, The problem with mine is the bearing itself is bad, and you will find this on third party rollers from Amazon, some are good some are horrible. Just try turning the yellow caps by hand they should literally spin completely freely with no hangups or force required. I popped the caps off and pack them with some lithium grease and they were both fully functional then.
    Because the Roomba is constantly monitoring the required torque to the debris extractors, it will stop at the slightest increased power requirement from the rollers.

    THANK YOU! We were going crazy with our Roomba i4. I just deep cleaned it yesterday and then today it was doing the "Clear debris extractor" every 2 minutes. I just followed your tips and pulled out a TON of tightly wound hair. Not it's running like a champ again, and I owe it all to you. THANK YOU AGAIN!

    I just took apart my roomba, I mean REALLY TOOK IT APART. I then came across your video and looked at those thingies and one isn't spinning freely. So I probably did all that work for nothing, just to find out, it's "just" gunk inside that tube. 😂
    I hope I can get my roomba back together, lol.

    My irobot started having this issue today and there was something stuck at the beginning but then it did it again and we notice there was a lot of hair in the side of the rollers (had no idea that came off) so we thought that was it. Started again so I searched and your video popped up and solved the issue! Thank you so much!!!

  • @daviddejdejongh3069

    Great solution and explanation! The crud (cat hair) was actually wrapped around the metal shaft inside the yellow plastic end bearing, and stopping the brush from rotating at all.

    OMG!! THANK Y0U! I clean the ends of the rollers every time I empty the trash bin, but never thought to remove the yellow cap. Mine just started doing the same error after 60 seconds. You wouldn't believe the amount of hair I pulled out of the cap alone, plus the roller. ALSO, I noticed my garbage symbol has now quit flashing even though it was empty. Must be the signal it's time to clean extractors!

    The black spindle the yellow endcap is fitted (not screwed on) pulls out of the roller (extractor) so you can clean almost the entire end.

    • @ri5ux435
      @ri5ux435  3 года назад

      If you're referring to how I was rotating the end caps, that was to reduce the force required pulling them off outward by hand as they were packed so tightly. Thank you for letting me know it pulls out of the roller though, will be useful for next time.

    I discovered that one of the cleaning brushes has a steel cylinder that must freely rotate. This cylinder is what the yellow end presses on. If that cylinder can't rotate, then the robot is screwed. I put a pair of pliers on it, got it to rotate and eventually come right off. Sprayed lubricant in there and all is well.

    Just fyi-- that entire bearing assembly slides out. Just squeeze it out. No tweezers needed! The bearing is attached to a plastic dowel that is about 2 inches long and that dowel slides into the roller.

    In my case I didn't get the error #2 (980 model) until I put the BRAND NEW rollers in. Then I get the error #2 after 3-5 min run time. Putting the OLD rollers back in it runs fine. However the old rollers are worn down a bit, so I'd like to use the new ones. I did check the alignment of the new rollers, they spin fine. All is good. Any thoughts?

    • @ri5ux435
      @ri5ux435  2 года назад

      With the old rollers installed, if you spin the rollers manually, and compare it to when the new rollers are installed, are the new rollers harder to move? This is typically caused by the roomba being unable to spin them with minimal effort.

    • @marciamotter7906
      @marciamotter7906 Год назад

      Possibly the arm that holds the rollers in is dirty or grime-y or somehow not letting the rollers roll freely
