    You are THE man! I’ve been struggling with mine and was at the point where I had given up and was going to buy a new set of brushes. Same thing would of eventually happened to those! I performed the same repair to mine, found an INSANE amount of hair, removed it all, and now she’s back to rolling around the joint no problem! I am much appreciative for the information!

      hi.. i have the 870 as well.. however i am unable to remove the yellow end cap :( would you be able to guide me how to open it

      I had this problem with my 880. the bearing was jammed solid and wouldn't let go of the shaft. if you pull on it hard enough, either the yellow cap will come off the shaft, or it will pull the shaft and it's mount out of the roller. if it does that, it just slides right back into place after you've cleaned it out.

      ritznjuz grab the rubber and and slide it down. Hold onto the other end and twist the yellow part.

    I’ve had my Rumba for about 6 hrs and I was frequently cleaning rollers, brush and wheels; but never knew about removing and cleaning the yellow caps! Omg! The hair that was there! Thank you so much! I’m glad your video was the 1st one to pop up when I started my search. Quick & easy.

    THANK YOU!! Though I clean the brushes regularly, I never would have thought to take it that step further - there is a whole lot of yuck in there!! And you helped me get it out and clear the error code. Thanks for taking the time to make and post this easy to follow and thorough explanation.

    I just finished putting back together my Roomba 960 after completely disassembling the thing, trying to figure out why it won't run for more than about 90 seconds without the dreaded "Error 2" crap. Thanks to your video, I found out I haven't been cleaning that side of the brushes since I bought the thing three years ago. One of the brass collars was completely stuck on the shaft. No wonder it wouldn't work. Your video was exactly what I needed. Thanks very much

    Oh my Goodness am I happy I found your video!
    I’ve been trying to get rid of that error and get my Roomba to work for a long time. Even took off the wheel and cleaned it.
    No other video or even the Roomba website mentioned removing the yellow end cap.
    That 30 seconds cleaning did it!
    Now it runs and cleans perfectly again.

    That was GREAT advice.....after cleaning out MUCH more hair, that brass bushing on mine was stuck to the shaft and my husband said he had to gently hammer that off the shaft then he wet sanded the shaft down lightly added little lube and put the brass bushing back into the yellow cap along with putting the shaft back into the end of the roller. Made sure all spun freely and put the rollers back into the machine. NO MORE ERROR

    Perfect! That did the trick. I didn't realize so much hair packed up under the yellow cap. As soon as I took that apart and cleaned out every speck of dirt and hair, it runs perfectly again. Thank you so much for taking the time to share this.

    Thanks for the tip. I bought my Roomba 545 at least 12 years ago at Sams-club, only had to change to high capacity battery due to another person in the house having a tendency to let Roomba run down without putting her back on the charger if for some reason she lost her way back to her docking station. Never had to clean the brush shaft ends. But recently I kept getting the clean brush-cage message after a short run time. This tip revealed a massive build up of hair that definitely needed to be removed. I will add this detail to by brush cleaning maintenance from now on. Tip, if the large brush gets hard to reinstall there is hair on the shaft that needs to be removed.

    Bravo! I never every knew those end caps came off. I diligently cleaned the other end regularly. Thanks for filming this over 5 years ago; yours was the 1st RUclips vid to come up when I type in the Roomba error message, and my problem is fixed. Appreciate it. .

    Thank you! after calling the iRobot customer service they diagnosed the problem at the (so called) brushes and only offered to buy new ones. They kept saying it’s “wear-down”, but the brushes seemed in exactly the same shape to me. So I decided to look for a solution myself one more time before I pay for new brushes, and your video is wonderfully made and saved me money and time too! Thank you!

    Thanks for posting this, you saved me $45 on new brushes. I didn’t realize the yellow end caps came off. Once I pulled them off, I found a ton of hair packed inside. My Roomba 960 ran just fine with no Error 2 warnings after cleaning that area out.

    You are a lifesaver! I too had not removed the yellow ends and when I did, my dark gray one also had the brass nut stuck on the roller. I had to use pliers and then found a large ring of golden retriever hair...I used WD 40 and it spins beautifully now. Thank you for saving my sanity, I never would have thought of any of this!

    We were having the exact same problem, been working on it for days, but nothing seemed to work. We even removed the yellow ends and cleaned, but didn't realize they could come off of the post! When I did that, found a ton of hair wrapped around it. But now after cleaning that out, the rollers are rotating freely and roomba "robo" is working great! We were about to buy new rollers/brushes as well or just throw the whole thing out and get a new one! You saved us a ton of $$$$. Thank you so much!

    Every other video recommends opening and cleaning the gear box, which did stop the 'clicking' noise on my 500 series. But I was still getting the error even after doing that. No one else ever recommends taking those end caps off. Thanks so much for the tip, mine is running perfectly now.

    Thanks man! My Roomba 865 was stuck in that error 2. Fortunately I found your video. The official roomba site does not explain this well enough. There are no instructions for this kind of model.

    Perfect video - had the same error and the exact same problem on our Roomba 805, which basically is a relabeled 860/880. The metal spindle/sleeve on the dark roller was wound full of hair and wouldn't spin at all. Easy fix once you know where to look! Thanks for posting.

    Thank you so much! I had totally dissembled my 880, cleaning it thoroughly according to roomba solutions from website with no success. I was able to detach the yellow cap but the metal parts were attached to a plastic part inside the tube. I had to separate the two small metal parts from the yellow cap on the gray roller - (with pliers, very tight). WD 40'd all three things (yellow cap and 2 metal parts) and yahooooooo!!! Walle (our Roomba) is working hard again. Thanks again.

      The pliers trick adds a small amount on Knurling to the external surface of the bushing. helps the fit! Great Tip!

    Thanks for the video. Had no idea the ends came off the rollers. Yours is the only one I found that mentioned the brass piece. It had got stuck on the roller rod and would not turn. Removed and found hair beneath. Thanks again.

    Awesome video! Straight to the point and exactly what was wrong with my Ruby. Had a heck of a time getting the brass piece off the metal stem. Had to use pliers to pry it off. Once off, cleaned it up, a little WD40 and she's running like new!!

    I had exactly the same problem and you have the right solution for this. It worked a treat for me and my Roomba 880 is back doing the good work for me as it should. Thanks so much for sharing!
    It is interesting that the it affects the black roller for everyone here and not the light coloured one. Roomba engineers take note... something to improve upon, may be the way it collects dirt.... may be a design issue with the black roller... room for improvement in design!

    Wow you are a savior. All other suggestions on a Google search wouldn't cure the issue and I was not going to tear the unit apart. Found one rollers end cap was plugged full of pet hair and wasn't moving. Cleaned it and voila no more error.
    Very poor engineering on roombas part imo and so glad I found your vid.

    Thank you, this was the exact same problem with mine, and your demonstration fixed it.
    I will add to others, do not be afraid to pull out and apart the yellow rollers. And make sure you remove the brass bearing from the axel as well. I had to detach all of these to get all of the hair. Mine still did not roll too well after this (looks like it had a bit too much friction heating), but as mentioned in video, some lubrication like WD-40 did the trick. Once the dark roller is freely rotating again, it worked normally.
    I am guessing I will also pull this apart any time brushes become full again, to prevent too much build up from again occuring inside of the axels.

    Thanks -- this solved the problem with an 805. Sure enough one of the brass bushings was stuck on the end of the roller, while the other came off easily with the yellow plastic cap. It was very tightly stuck, so I used a piece of folded cardboard to try to protect the brass while clamping down with pliers and pulling. There was quite a bit of burned hair & dust inside that tiny bushing.

    Thank you! I had no idea that all the pieces on the yellow headers came apart. I had dirt/hair packed between the brass nut and the black rod that inhibited the roller from spinning. Once cleaned, everything was great!

    that did it! I thought it was broken. I'd cleaned everywhere including beneath the little yellow dealies, but didn't realize the copper part wasn't supposed to be stuck to the pin. thanks!

    Thank you so much! It solved my problem. I, too, spent a long time trying to figure it out. I read the manual, but it wasn't helpful. I then went on to the iRobot support website which said that if you clean the brushes and still get the error message, then you need to call iRobot to purchase new parts.     Thanks a lot for posting man. After multiple attempts I was ready to donate and my gf kept pushing. Your video was the solution for my problem.

    Thank you! This was exactly my problem. I would have been afraid of taking the end cap off especially the copper end. Saved me much time and money. So appreciative!
