    If you have fully charged your Roomba 500 series battery and its charging time was very short and/or its run time was very short, the following battery reset procedure may solve your problem.

    Julie,
    I assume you are happy with your job but this retired college professor thinks you should seriously consider teaching. You did a wonderful job with this presentation - wasting no time and providing clear, concise instructions. I've just followed those instructions on my 500 Series model and even if it doesn't work I won't be bent out of shape. In my house I am in charge of using our "Rosie the Robot" and I confess that I drop the ball often and let her sit at her charger for a long time between cleanup sessions. I'm going to have to shape up. LOL I have plenty to do outside for the next three days and then I check her out. Wish me luck.

    We are glad that the battery reset procedure worked for you. If you are not going to be using your robot for a while, charge then remove your robot's battery and store it in a cool dry place. It's not suggested to leave the battery inside the robot if it is not on the charge. You'll see that the battery will last longer if you use your robot several times per week. We also suggest resetting your robot every few weeks to prolong the lifetime of your robot's battery.

    thx for the answer, do you think my irobot have the battery problem?because there isn't any light on pulsing when i plugged in at all,and i don't have warranty anymore,should i buy the new battery?thx fr giving me some advices...kind regard

    I hadn't used (or charged) my Roomba for over 3 years so I really had no hope that this would actually work - but it did! It didn't work the first three times I tried it, but then I took the battery out for a little bit (like 30 minutes) and put it back in and then it worked.

      I hope this works for mine. I did the same thing. It's been 3 years and I had replaced the battery around that time. Now it just has low battery warning after the light turns green when I try to use it.

    My Romba has been sitting life less for 2 years I followed this reset. First time didn’t work as battery was already full dead and didn’t recognise reset till I plugged it in, once it sounded the battery 5 error again in red I unplugged it from the main charge, completed the reset holding the buttons plugged it back in and what do you no after 6 hours the light is now green!!! I will wait 72 hours before I use and see how it goes, as a mum thank you from the bottom of my heart thank you 😂

    I have 2 Roomba 536 models. I replaced the battery in one as it was stone cold dead. The other one will not dim like you indicate as the 2nd step after pressing the CLEAN button, and then the SPOT and DOCK buttons until the CLEAN button dims. What am I missing?

    @RobotShopTV thank you fr your nice answer,i still trying to plugging corectly into the side of the robot, but the light still off...should i really plugging for 72 hours times..till the light on..?thx so much
    i feel so sad i just came back from holiday and looking forward to see my robot romba,but my robot still sleeping.........

    @pancaka8 We would be glad to help. Have you tried plugging the charger directly into the side of the robot? Are you certain that the battery is installed properly? Are you getting any errors?     @pancaka8 The light should start pulsing right away when plugged in. We generally do not recommend leaving the robot plugged in if not used for a long period. How long have you had your battery for? Is your robot still under warranty? If so, we suggest contacting the place where the robot was purchased for an exchange under warranty. For more troubleshooting please contact us via robotshop support center or forum. We will be glad to troubleshoot your robot and recommend proper parts.

      "KEEP your robot plugged in when not in use. If you have a Home Base or Clean Base, keep it charging on the Home Base or Clean Base. If you don't have a Home Base, keep it plugged into the charger." From iRobot website

    @babybufters The battery reset procedure does not work 100% of the time. Especially if your battery has worked for a few years. Though, it is always worth a try. In this case, we would recommend a new battery. Please let us know if you need any help with the selection of your new Roomba battery.
    Please note that if your battery is not that old, the problem could lie in the robots charging system, charger or home base. If this is the case, we do have a Roomba repair service in order to help.

    @pancaka8 If there are no lights at all, we suggest to test your robots charger with a voltmeter. You should get an output of 22 volts from the charger.

    @16hypen3sp It is easier to interrupt the charging cycle when the robot is on the charging base since people passing by or animals can move the robot off the base. It is therefore, much safer to plug the charger directly into the side of the robot.

    It is possible that your robots battery is not making good contact. Have you tried removing the battery and cleaning the contacts on the battery and robot? If you have not replaced your battery in a while, it could also indicate a bad battery.

    hello, great video. My 560 would clean for about 40 minutes and the light would go to amber, then it would search for the dock..not ideal, but functional. Now, after I removed the bottom cover to clean the mechanics, the robot would clean for an hour and the clean light would stay green until it dies. What is the fastest / best way to get the robot to recognize the discharge curve again?

      Roomba batteries do not have any memory effect and the robot also does not remember any discharge curve. The robot will use the battery voltage and temperature to determine when it needs to return to dock or not. It is possible in this case that the battery voltage drops quickly and the robot is unable to determine that it must return to the docking station before the battery dies. We suggest trying the battery reset procedure a few more times to see if this helps. If not, you may need to consider a new battery.

    @cheshirepat30 You may need to reset your robot several times before your battery reaches optimal performance. Although, if you are happy with the run time after the first reset, you do not have to reset it again. You can reset your robot every week or so, to prolong the lifetime of your battery.

    My Roomba 550 says ""check roombas left wheel"" and although I have disassembled it many times it still says this...
    I will try resetting it. Perhaps my Roomba is stuck on a former wheel problem??

      Resetting your robot could help. But, there could also be an issue with the wheel itself. If it does not turn well by hand, we would suggest replacing the wheel module.

    I have held the spot and dock buttons for 0ver 30 seconds and the clean button is not dimming! How long do I have to hold it??

      It is recommended to hold the spot and dock buttons for 10 seconds. This should be enough time to reset the robots battery. If you have a Roomba 700 or 800 you must hold the clean button for at least 10 seconds until the display says rSt.

    Can you please tell me wath is the matter in my case. I have installed a new Li Ion battery in my Irobot.
    Now after a 4 hours loading it shows me a red blinking information : Err 7

      +flosilk1 The Charging Err7 is due to the battery overheating. We suggest you to allow the robot to cool down for at least 1 hour before trying again. Also, please restart the robot by pressing and holding "spot" and "dock" buttons for 10 seconds.

    What does it mean if the clean button is flashing amber(about every 4 seconds) and you hear a click sound? The unit will not show green on the clean button when pressed. I plugged into the power supply directly and the power supply blinks alternate the click sound.

    My roomba doesn't turn on but when docked the CLEAN centre button flashes red & a couple of times while docked a voice from the roomba says "error". It hasn't been used for over a year

      If the robot has not been used for over a year, it is strongly possible that you simply need a new battery. Batteries decay over time if they are not used.

      Interrupting the 72 hours cycle should not ruin the battery or the charger. You may retry 72 hours charging cycle.

    @pancaka8 The problem could be with your battery, charger or motherboard. Since your robot is no longer under warranty, we will assume that it is more than 1 year old. The first step in this case would be to try a new battery. We do have a very good Roomba 500 series battery. Product RB-Met-14 @ robotshop com

    I cleaned everything and my result was, that the docking station gave a green light when I putted the roomba on it, but the roomba itself didn’t gave any light which would say it was charging, so basically the dock did its work but the roomba itself didn’t really do anything….

      Hi, if your robot is still not working after putting it back on the charging station, or doesn't clean for a long time, then you would need a new battery.

    I did the reset before she said don’t interrupt its charging for 72 hours! I’m leaving for China in 24 hours. Will my Roomba try to clean after the 72 hours is up? I’m worried it will yank around the battery that’s plugged in.

      First, we suggest you to remove the brush deck and clean the brush deck gears, which you can find by removing the cover, on the side of the brush deck. After, put back the brush deck in your robot. If you remove the dust bin and start you robot, you should see the brushes turn in the brush deck. If not, the problem can be caused by the motherboard if the motor is working.

      We would strongly suggest the replacement of the motherboard. Replacing a component on the board has more chance to damage it then repairing it, you would need to be very good at soldering. You would also need to trace the motor circuit and verify every components to make sure they are working or not.

      Charging Error 3 could be caused by a defective battery, not being able to be recharged. We therefore suggest you to purchase a new battery. A Roomba battery usually lasts between 1 to 2 years.

      I suspect this procedure could be helpful with original iRobot batteries which last a lot longer, but not the generic ones since they're a different animal, at least this doesn't help with mine 600 series.

    Hi there, I have the same issue like Alexandra. I followed this entire procedure. Now, with the 72-hour charge depleted, Roomba doesn't recognize its charging base and won't charge when placed on it. PLEASE HELP!

      Kin Man Does your robot charge without the home base? Just by connecting the charger to the robot? If not, you may want to verify if you are getting 22Volts from your charger. If you are, the issue is most probably with your robots charging system on the robots motherboard.

      Roomba thinks it's still directly plugged in because the connection in the direct charge port is broken...

      I had the same problem. Try taking the battery out and leaving it out for a while. I did this and when I put it back in it made that "song" that she describes in the video (which it wasn't doing before), and then it charged normally. Now it's working like it's new!

    ok... this worked for me on my 530... i did not however wait 72 hours. Here's my sequence. reset roomba, 1st charge = 10 mins... runtime = 10~15 mins... reset roomba, 2nd charge 10-12 hrs, run roomba dead... reset roomba, 3rd charge 5-6 hours, run roomba dead... this 3rd time roomba ran for well over 1 hour. however, my battery may not have been dead... just deeply discharged.

      it's not the roomba. It's the battery. This is how NI-MH batteries work. Give roomba a break.

    Is it absolutely necessary for you to charge the device for 72 hours?

      Hi! Yes, it is highly recommend to let the robot charge for 72 hours straight because it needs a reboot and it's the most optimal way to do it. Otherwise, the battery will not be fully reboot. Best,
