    Very good video. I disassembled the battery and all 4-cel were showing 4.0V+. Seems the problem is the BMS itself. Do you have any tips for raising the BMS back? Thank you.

    Do you perhaps know, for the NiMH battery (displayed @ 02:12 ), at what voltage the battery is considered (by the vaccuming unit) "empty" & at what voltage fully charged ? 🤔
    Thanks ! 😏🖒

    Australia eBay - AUD $26 Lithium Polymer battery - 6400 mA. You must keep the filters and sensors clean to prevent stress on the moving components. The brushes and bearings for them have to kept clear and dirt bins have to be kept clear always. Also there is a sensor under the long brushes for flicked up dirt for the spot cleaning and an infra red sensor under the black and white front swivel wheel to trigger reverse etc. which gets fluff in it, easy to lever the wheel and casing off and clean that. The trouble with ALL brilliant things is you stop maintaining them cause they're so good, then they really crack up. The guys who made these also made military and space exploration vehicles, explains why they are so good.

    after the fusion of the original battery pack, thank goodness I was at home because I heard the first burnt smell then I saw the smoke, I decided to switch to the lithium so at least I also spilled the fire (joke) I bought on amazon the bacco compatible to the not original lithium, my Roomba goes much better than I can repeat the cycle several times, before I could not. this is my experience, if I had not intervened promptly to extract the battery pack with a screwdriver it would have melted inside or worse if I was not at home maybe now I would be in another!

    Hi. NiMH roomba firmwares are not prepared to charge properly Lithium batteries. Not only charge control parameters and end of charge conditions are different, the problem is roomba NiMH load program applies a trickle charge at the end of the normal charge to prevent the autodisccharge of NiMH batteries. This overload not only is not necessary for Lithium, even damage, reducing the authonomy and life. The result is, while a Lithium battery life must be 4 years minimum, will be reduced to 6 months (my own case) to one year. A lot of reviews of this can be read in Amazon, seems is due a bad quality batteries, but for the NiNH Roombas, due to are not prepared to manage Lithium. Vendors don't know or concern about, when the user will discover the problem, warranty will expired.
    Regards.

      May be a vacuum rotation blocked by debris, or no electric power. In 600 series positive and negative contacrs for vacuum are two little metalic plates in bin. New 600 models fron 2017 detect bad bin contact and generate an error 14. But 600 old models no detect, simply roomba works with no suction. May be 700 the same case

    Some people apparently are concerned with a Lithium fire caused by the cheap pack. If you're really paranoid about the new pack having a bad charge controller, you could just tear out the old charge controller from the bad battery and swap it into the new one. Then you know for sure you have new cells with a reliable authentic roomba charge controller. Probably as close to oem as you could get but oem probably has better quality cells as well I'd assume.

      I have a Roomba 760 and the NI-MH battery pack has no circuit board or any chips inside. It only has a thermal fuse and a thermistor. I am no battery expert but I suspect that BMS is either 1: not required because the cells are all in series (12s) thus no balancing of pairs are needed (there are no pairs in parallel) or 2: very simple and done by a board inside the Roomba.
      As some other comments have suggested, charger output cycle for NI-MH batteries is not great for Lithium batteries. NI-MH chargers wallop the battery with 21v - 22v until the cells come up close to being fully charged and then finish the cycle with a trickle of lower voltage that never shuts off.
      Again I am no battery expert but it seems like charging knock-off batteries with the wrong charger may be asking for trouble, like a fire. I'd rather just buy a $25 NI-MH battery every 3 years.

    • @ne0tekk1
      @ne0tekk1 27 дней назад

      Nimh batteries are much safer than lithium ion and have usually have no balance charging because they don't explode like lithium ion when overcharged. Lithium ion indeed has very specific charging characteristics and will require the appropriate board for balance charging as well. I looked into replacing the cells in my older lithium roomba packs but have heard they have a "self destruct" feature where the fuse will keep blowing if any of the cells read 0v, which could cause a fire if other cells are getting over charged. Maybe I'll make a video about connecting the old battery in parallel with another set of batteries while I remove and tackweld new cells on.
