Just saved me 35 bucks, thank you! I had NO IDEA that those grey bits on the end were supposed to spin, and it's not mentioned anywhere in the documentation that they should. I just kept looking at the cleanest friggin vacuum I've ever seen every six minutes when it would tell me to clean the main brushes and was seriously losing it and was ready to just buy new brushes to see if that solved the problem. They have to know about this problem but it's making less stubborn people buy unnecessary replacement parts.

Thank you for this video!!! Error 2 kept going off on my mom’s e5 every 90 seconds. Tons of hair cleaned from the rollers, but then another 90 seconds later error happened again. What I didn’t know was about those grey parts! That was the KEY in getting the rollers to spin properly and the eliminating the error. Then while I was at it, cleaned the other parts you showed. Learned a lot and saved my mom’s roomba. Thank you so much

Thank you very much for this video. It really helped to clean my roomba i3 rollers. Mine is only a couple of months old and slightly different, but this video put me on the right track and eliminated a load of frustration.

This is so helpful! Saved me from having to buy new brushes, and now I know to add cleaning this end of the brushes to my weekly maintenance of the robot. Thank you SO much! 👏🏻

Be careful when buying new brushes. There are off brands (i.e., Chinese) rollers that are too large and will give constant "clean extractors" error messages.

One month with the Roomba and one long haired Border Collie I found four times the amount of hair-washers and six times the dreadlocks. I was pretty sure the vacuum would not last a year. This video is exactly what I needed to know. It’s definitely a chore, but not as much as the daily four hour cleaning the J3+ does on it’s own. Thanks for saving my robot!

Ours was already an year old and I thought it might be the rollers although they seemed to be in good shape. I just couldn’t figure out as to what more do I clean to get them running. I finally decided to replace perfectly appearing rubber brushes till I came across this video.
Now they are working just fine for the last month.
I’ll Hold off buying new brushes.

Our two Great Pyrenees do a job on our 690 so we're going to move that upstairs and get a more pet-friendly model for the main floor. This information is great-thanks!

One additional tip for everyone. I cleaned everything as suggested in the video and one of my brush rolls still would not spin (the light green one). If you take off the grey cap, there's a circle nut that can be removed (I used a needle-nosed pliers). Once removed, I found dirt in the spindle. I cleaned it with a rag and then ran a thin paper towel through the hole. I lubed it again with some Fellows Performance Oil. Once cleaned, I tested again and the brush roll FINALLY spun. iRobot now working swimmingly!

2:31 do not use a screw driver. Squeeze the piece out like you are popping a pimple like you did in 3:10. Only the grey piece it’s meant to come out, not the entire assembly.

Bless you! I’m sitting here with my Roomba upside down and in my lap. I’m so glad that I searched for videos and found yours. I had no idea I could remove the cap and get dog hair from down in there as well. My problem is getting the damn cap off. LOL. Do you have an Australian Shepherd like I do? They are shedding machines. And learning how to clean the front wheel was a bonus!

With 3 cats I was convinced that this was the problem...nope. However, for some unclear reason the yellow thingies would not rotate properly. Due to this video I knew that must be the problem and it was. Fixed it an now the error is gone. So thanks for explaining how the roomba works :)

    Hi, I need an advice.
I have a Bernese Mountain dog (same as yours, seems to me). I am looking to buy a roomba i3 but I am afraid it will not be effective for collecting dogs hair. My question is, how often should a roomba be cleaned of dogs hair (process you explained in this video)? And are you happy with your roomba (since you have a dog with a lot of hair...)? This would help me a lot. Thank you. :)
