I just found a used URGI build yesterday at my LGS. I believe it to be the old model with the DD barrel. Radian lower, Geissle SSP trigger, B5 stock, modlite w/modbutton attached. Cant remember the sights, but I snatched it for 1650.
@@GunBoxTherapy It looks to me to be the DD gas block, although I haven’t taken the rail off yet. The only thing is that it has a black Geissle Airborne charging handle? I’m guessing he kept the FDE for a different build, maybe they sold some as Blemishes with black CH’s? Not sure about that.
You got a smoking good deal for getting all that for $1650. Heck just the modlite/mod button combo and URGI upper alone would nearly cost that much not even counting a colmplete radian lower and Geissele fcg. Especially considering it sounds like you got the full clone version.
I ordered the upper. What are your thoughts of a lower receiver? Doesn’t matter as long as I use a geiselle trigger or should I go with a geiselle lower instead of my BCM
Thanks man! I’ve really taken my time with this build kinda going piece by piece as I train with it and solving issues with different parts. will have to check that out! I’ve not heard of it before!
I just received mine today which i bought from Geissele on black friday. The bolts holding the handguard in place were ridiculously tight. Also, the entire upper was so slimy. Besides that, everything seems to be great quality. The BCG is awesome. I have a LWRC di and thought that BCG was the cat's rear (it is a really good bcg) but the Geissele enhanced seems to be better. I'm also using a B5 Sopmod and Eotech EXPS3 but my light is Streamlight and Troy backups. Thinking im really going to like this rifle.
Perhaps I'm just dumb but I couldn't get my existing mag release button to work with the Knights ambi mag release. I had to just use their oversized winter button. Functionally its fine, in fact it may be better, I shoot left so I really don't use it now much either way. Aesthetically though I like how yours is setup with the standard size button on the right side of the receiver.
Where’s the best place to find one of these uppers? Only place I can find one is having Charlie’s custom clones build one, would you say to go that route to get one? Also, I love the eotech on the unity tactical mount. Do you think if I ran that combination, it would cowitness with Daniel defense fixed front & rear buis sights?
To be honest I’ve heard mixed reviews on Charlie’s but you are right they are the only ones really doing anything outside of Geissele with these. I personally lived on the Geissele website for 6 months looking. lol. But I’ve also noticed that sometimes Geissele customer service will pre-announce drops on their industry page on AR15(dot-com). On the left hand side of the website is an industry link and from there you’ll find theirs. I don‘t believe they would co-witness without rising them up a bit. Still not a bad idea to have irons especially in the case of having a QD mount like what’s on the eotech. If the situation calls for ripping the eotech off, I imagine you’d get it done pretty quick or quickly just GTFO there. lol.
Mine too! I wish it had more widespread adoption throughout the DoD as I think it’s more adaptable per the mission but starts life as a pretty lightweight rifle. (Compared to the M4 with a quad rail)
Buy the lower and the upper separately Keep in mind, the 11.5 to 14.5 have a different buffer weight than the 16band 18. The 11.5 to 14.5 use the black buffer while the 16 and 18 us the silver but pleased research that before buying. I’ve seen some uppers come with buffers and some don’t. All lowers should have buffers but what that lower was married to versus what upper you want to pair with it nerds to be known
where did you find that KAC ambi mag release??? how is it? I cant find any reviews on it, usually left handed mag releases are really tight or far in comparison to the right handed one.
Thanks Juan! This was somewhat of a different style of video than what I usually do so I appreciate any/all feedback. But yes, I definitely do man! Those guys are a wealth of knowledge if applied correctly.
These are the Griffin Armament M2 sights. They are some of the best priced all metal irons sights and function flawlessly. I actually did a video on them by themselves here -> (ruclips.net/video/AXtegE90Bw8/видео.html).
@GunBox Therapy I got the Odin works lower. With the geiselle enhanced lower parts kits. With the geissele buffer tube and b5 sopmod stock and grip. Thinking about the holosun reflex in fde but I really want the eotech. Got the geissele singer stage trigger as well.
This concept implies better accuracy and reliability than others, period, but what evidence supports that? Seems to me an FN Upper fitted with most any free float rail supported by a GA trigger would yield best results as well as best value. A MATECH might also support better results. At any rate, no doubt a nice rifle here and with some marksmanship in the mix likely to get the job done.
How big of a rifle snob do u have to b to complain about the finish on the barrel lol. Nice build man. I just ordered my Geissele rail for my 300 build I’m building. Good video.
Yeah personally I’ve not had a single issue with the finish on this particular barrel but this was more or less something that Geissele did a small batch of and actually went back to parkerizing shortly after I got mine. However, when I reached out to them about it, they said they used a proprietary technique and blend of black oxide…idk but I’ve not had any problems so I have no complaints. lol.
Well the black oxide finish has had rust issues, so it’s actually pretty important. people that put their rifles to hard use will care about the finish. So I can speculate why you don’t care 😅
Thanks a lot man! For anything that requires torque or needs to maintain zero I use the blue Deco Color paint pen. For magazines/ammo cans I use the Sakura Solid Marker (solidified paint). This one is quite a bit thicker but can also be sharpened with a knife. It more or less draws on like a crayon rather than a pen/marker. Not sure why I use something different, it’s just easier to identify (due to it being thicker) from a distance if I need to just glance at it. But I’m sure the same could be had from the deco color.
How many carbine classes have you taken with that rifle setup? Wondering how you like that ambi setup you have going on in a high stress situation. I’m a lefty shooter.
I’ve not taken any with this particular build but I have some time on my personal range and a range I go to and run drills I’ve learned from classes on the private bays. That said, the safety selector is amazing when using my “wrong hand”. The 60 degree throw, while it does require the same force to move, it is a nice reduced amount of travel. So whether moving, prone, knee down or stand still, it’s much nicer than a standard 90 degree throw. The mag catch/release is also one of my more preferable ones as it places it damn near in the same spot as the right side of the lower. Lastly, the charging handle, Geissele ACH, Geissele SCH, and Radian raptors all are amazing and I’ve used all three in multiple builds and never had an issue. One thing to note is that the right side of the Radians are shorter to kinda match the thickness of the forward assist. If I were a lefty though, there are really only 2 lowers I would get for personal/defensive use. The ambi Sig M400 lower or a Knight’s Armament ambi lower. I’ve found that those two give you much more than what ambi parts can deliver to you. A better placed left side mag release button, a right side bolt hold/release and ambi selectors. While they are both kinda pricey, that price is an investment for your personal defense and it is a fairly cheap insurance policy. If you have other questions, let me know.
Coated by different places. The lower was a raw unfinished 80% I finished and engraved myself and then I sent it to a company to have it anodized. The upper was a complete Geissele URGI near-clone upper and anodized by then.

I couldn’t tell you where I first heard it but I’d say it’s a pretty logical thing to consider. Pressure pads definitely have their place especially if running a light/IR light/IR laser combo. A dual pressure pad makes a lot of sense with that setup. If a light is used primarily for HD or property defense or whatever situation where a light should be used only when necessary, then I am of the opinion that it’s best to position the switch in a way where grip adjustment is necessary to use it.
