So my idea Ash's aging is based off the 3rd pikachu short: Pikachu and Pichu. Since Ash at that part is only a 1st 3rd of the way through his Johto journey my scale works like this. Every League adventure takes place over the course of 6-8 months. So in short; each explored Region adds a year with movies and specials adding 2 to 3 months. This help with nearly all the Leagues taking place during Summer or Spring season. So that's 7 regions ash's explored so 7 years and going through all the pokemon movies (excluding reboots and remakes / But also counting tv movies) that's 23 movies or 3 1/2~5 1/2 (4~6 rounded) additional years. Which would put Ash around 20~26 in my book.
I think the creators are just plain fat lying about Ash not aging. There is already cannon evidence that proves they are lying. Ash faces off with an older iris who has become a gym master
If Ash had aged during the course of his journey, there might be a minor change of direction while still retaining his experiences and personality, but since this anime is targeted for younger audiences above, he was stuck in a floating timeline, making him eternally 10 yrs. old. (All thanks to Dialga 😒)

Here's how I think Ash could've aged. 👇
1. Kanto-Johto: 10-11
2. Hoenn: 11-11⅓
3. Sinnoh: 11½-12
4. Unova: 12¾-13½
5. Kalos: 13½-13⅝
6. Alola: 14-14⅜
7. Galar and beyond: 15
The anime could've been a lot different if Ash had aged throughout his journey. 😲

How I would handle ash aging would be in black and white he’s 12, since it was implied some time passed since his Sinnoh journey. Then in journeys he’s 13, so he aged but not by that much, so he can be be around the same age as the targeted audience

I would love to see an older Ash having either a Battle dome in his home region or made it to the elite four after all those adventures.
That doesn’t fit his character imo ash is a traveler he would never stay in 1 place for long. What I think he would do is be on a airship or some other flying home, we have seen a lot of flying stuff in Pokémon and it would be big enough to have a indoor park for Pokémon. His crew would be goh, Gary, Horace, Brock, lei and a new girl trainer and a new boy trainer. Ash and the others go on aura missions around the world helping people and Pokémon and he defends his titles each year. He has mastered aura and became a full fledged aura guardian.

Due to their obsession with the number 10 in the english dub and probably in the Japanese dub as well, Ash was a month and 1/2 out from his 11th birthday when he started his Pokémon journey. Meaning that he was already done with being 10 years old in episode 9. And there was a theory done a long time ago that actually proved that when sun and moon was still airing, Ash had turned 20 literally, literally just before his sun and moon adventure began.
In Season 1 episode Battle Of The Badge when Ash returned to Viridian city the narrator said a year had passed by then and I been rewatching the Hoenn series and Ash says he been batting Team Rocket for years but we're supposed to ignore he got older haha.
Ash's final episode is not completed, there's something missing in this episode: Giovanni telling to Matori to study the doomsday project information. Team Rocket's doomsday project builded. Team Rocket tries to steal Ash's Pikachu again. Officer Jenny saving Ash and Pikachu from the Team Rocket. Team Rocket's Doomsday Pod arriving in Pallet Town. Gary's Umbreon saving Ash and Delia from the Team Rocket's Doomsday Pod. Professor Oak sending messages to regions and all of Ash's friends through Pidgey. Ash reuniting all of his old friends (Misty, Brock, May, Max, Dawn, Iris, Cilan, Serena, Bonnie, Clemont, Lana, Kiawe, Lillie, Sophocles, Mallow, Goh and Chloe). Tracey shows to Gary a photo of the Team Rocket's doomsday project. Ash and all of his old friends teams up with Gary and the members of Project Mew to fight against Team Rocket. Members of the Project Mew arrives to Team Rocket's Doomsday Project. Ash, his old friends and Gary goes into the Team Rocket's doomsday project. Team Rocket Grunts surrounding Horace and Lyla. Ash and his Pikachu defeating the Team Rocket Grunts. Team Rocket Grunts surrounding and taking Danika and Quilon to the temporary command center. Ash and Pikachu goes to the Team Rocket's Doomsday Machine. Giovanni capturing Ash and his Pikachu. Team Rocket locked Pikachu in the cage. Ash is locked in the cage by Giovanni ("But, in every game, there are winners and there are losers. And as you know, in this game...losers...gave their Pokémon!"). Giovanni using Pikachu's power to rule the world. Pikachu explodes the cage with his thunderbolt to escape and save Ash from the Team Rocket. Ash tells to Gary that Doomsday Machine is indestructible to all proof of destruction. Ash runs to the Kanto's graveyard and sees his dead father's grave. Gary tells Ash never to give up. Mewtwo appears and mentions to Ash that power energy stones are the only hope to defeat Team Rocket. Ash and Pikachu arrives to the Team Rocket's headquarters. Ash is in Giovanni's office and picks up one of the power energy stones. Serena wants Ash to come with her. Ash and Serena gather the Power Energy Stones. Team Rocket Grunts arrives. Ash and Serena with Pikachu's volt tackle attack defeating all of Team Rocket Grunts. Giovanni and Persian goes into the helicopter for try to escape. Jessie, James, Meowth and Wobbuffet quits and escapes too with rocket jets. Matori escapes from the Doomsday Project's destruction with a small elevator. All Pokémon trainers and Team Rocket Grunts escapes from the Doomsday Project. Gary, Misty, Brock, May, Max, Dawn, Iris, Cilan, Bonnie, Clemont, Lana, Kiawe, Lillie, Sophocles, Mallow, Goh, Chloe, Danika, Quilon, Horace and Lyla escapes from the Doomsday Project and gets into the Project Mew's ship. Ash and Serena defeated Team Rocket. Pokémon Trainers celebrates Team Rocket's defeat. 26 years in the future. Ash and all of his old friends growing up and having their own children. Why didn't the Japanese producers and writers try harder to bring all of Ash's old friends into the final episode? I always say because the final episode isn't complete without all of Ash's friends. The Japanese producers and writers don't want to continue with Ash getting together with all his friends to fight Team Rocket, they don't want to plan Ash and Giovanni's final battle, they just keep ignoring all the plans.
So... Is this like a fanfic of yours, or what? Can you like point to the source of where you got this information from?
Technically ash was born in 1987 so this would actually make him around about 35 years old..

Great video, Raf. Extremely intricate. This is a topic that, just like Ketchum himself, never gets old. Here's my insight:
01) I would like to imagine that each IRL season equates to a real season in the anime world, with some caveats ofc:
- Pre Porygon being Season 0, BF being 2 seasons due to Japan having OP09 and OP10, MPM being an extra season;
- This would total in 28 seasons, that being 7 years... for the 7 JAP sagas total, making Ash 17 in the ending of MPM;
It could be 8 years if we account for seasonal breaks: 3 months from DP to BW, 3 from XY to SM and 6 from SM to JN.
This could make Ash 18 with MPM's ending. If we englobe MPM to S25, the break from SM to JN would be 9 months.
Now that alligns perfectly with Burnet's pregnancy fo Lei. I would love to know what was Ash doing during these breaks.
02) If Ash was 10 in Kanto & Orange, I can see him being 11 in GS/AG, 12 in DP/BW, 13 in XY/SM and ofc 14 in JN;
- Ash being 14 in JN is like how Red is 14 in GSC, making MPM's inclusion the final hurrah like Red's in Mount Silver;
- This alligns perfectly with the estimation of "1 episode = 1 day", from OS001 to SM146 it's 1095 episodes (3 years);
03) If Ash aged 1 year per region (3 month in Orange and 9 months in Frontier) he could've been 15 as of BW001;
- That would make him 19 during SV... turning 20 in the epilogue (adult age in Japan = no longer a child = retirement);
- This means he would turn 16 years in the end of BW, coinciding with how much long he was with us TV run wise;
As dubious as it was, BW had everything to be his finale: N & Plasma plot, serious Team Rocket, World Tournament.
Heck, they could've used the B2W2 sequel aspect to introduce the future MC back then after 800 episodes with Ash.
Best Wishes means Farewell/Sayonara. It would've been impactful with Charizard and Mewtwo in their Mega Y forms.
Imagine Hisuian Samurott being the Ash-Greninja transformation. Ash would have a cool JAP mon in the USA region.
PS: It's actually crazy how Gary in JN (due to the light shading as well as the dark HGSS outfit) does look at least 17.

If Ash had actually aged in the series a simple way to do it is to age him and other characters by 1 year each generation. 10 in Kanto, 11 in Johto, 14 in Unova, 17 in Journeys, etc.
I think the best way for Ash aging in the anime woulda been gradual aging so that by the time he's in the Masters 8, he's 18-19 years old. That way becoming the strongest trainer coincided with entering adulthood, or at least becoming adult. also symbolic for him leaving the anime too. cuz then he could 16-17 during XY and largely 17 during SM. Amazing video bro and can't wait to see more!

How about potential endings for the arcs of Ash's Aces, besides Pikachu? (Charizard, Sceptile, Greninja, Infernape, etc.)
What do you think would be a good possible ending to their character arc? Where would they go? How could their respective journey end, outside of Oak's Lab? I have some idea. Heck. I wrote two fan-fics of "What-Ifs" for Bayleef and Sceptile respectively. Yes, I know Bayleef is technically not an Ace, but still.

If Ash Ketchum makes an appearance in Pokemon Horizon as a brief companion or makes a cameo I'm hoping that he plays more of a role as a mentor to both Liko and Roy..
Ageing Ash up would open up so much opportunity and expand on his story as a character like who he married (Serena❤) his children how he became a Pokemon master and who is his father the Pokemon animators need to give him a proper Happily ever After Story..

@@RandomQuackling Its not confusing just a floating time line just a dumb choice when the games have there characters age. We know from gen 1 to 2 3 years passed and red who ash is based on is an adult in the SM games the next time we see red and blue again they could have lovers and kids. They made ash, his friends and team rocket very surface level instead of diving deep into their past and family like HZ is doing with its characters.

I always believed that each region was 6 months and by the time he won the world title, he was 14 yo.
Next thing you know, in the next season of pokemon, ash is back but he is now a mid to older teen with a deeper voice, meaning they can bring their two beloved mc’s back and allows them to use a new voice actor for him
I think they changed the protagonist because paldea is all about time experiences and Ash always being the same age and is already the world champion, who has no need to time travel and mess with that. I’d like to think paldea is simply not suited for Ash to travel to and experience sp they changed the mc

I like the fact that you brought up The Simpsons, it's interesting in that show there's a couple who was expecting children Apu and Manjula in the Season 11 episode (I forgot what it's called) but in that episode they try to concieve children after multiple attempts Manjula gives birth to octuplets (4 boys and 4 girls), another instance is Family Guy with Joe and Bonnie Swanson upon their introduction Bonnie is heavily pregnant but doesn't give birth until Season 8 (2009) to Susie, funny how Pokémon and Family Guy both have a Bonnie xD. Not to mention The Flintstones to some extent but that does have series with a teen Pebbles and Bam-Bam and some 90s specials where they get married and are parents

I mean, maybe that one director said that Ash is forever 10 years old, but everyone I talk says that by Journeys at the latest, he’s at least 16 years old. It’s easier to see Ash as being at a high school age than 10 years old after 25 years anyways.

Mwuhuhaha...haha... How about this, Horizon's protagonists Liko and Roy aged up to 11, then they meet Ash who greets them "Hello, my name is Ash, I'm 10 this year!"
When your trying to catch them all time decides not to touch you. When you stop, then time starts to take hold.
It's a missed opportunity, Ash should have aged with the audience. He still got new companions every region so they could used those for younger viewers to relate to.
He could become mentor, he could complete his journey to become a league winner, as he gets older and his constant run ins with Team Rocket and other criminal groups I would probably write his goals shifting from winning leagues to becoming a kinda vigilante like Lance.
Him becoming unbeatable is easy to fix if writers paid attention to game scene, their crazy strategies and ever shifting meta.
Instead of him having a brain dead idea to start over in new region, just make it official that in regional leagues you can only use pokemons from region that league takes place in.
He sure would know by heart his type match ups but learning 100+ new passive abilities and items for pokemon to hold would be a curve ball to any possible sure win strategy from previous regions.
The thing with Ash's story, it was under a curse called the endless now and that's why nothing changed no matter what happened or how much time passed.
I have my doubts about the anime writers wanting to keep Liko and Roy around forever like they did with Ash but after the Rising Volt Tacklers find all the Legendary Heroes and defeat the Explorers, they will be free to do whatever they want with them which is why I believe they will bring back the Gym Battles and Pokémon Leagues to make are new protagonists stronger.
What I wished would’ve happened…
Ash 15 by the end of XY
Ash goes to school (more like a university) and helps create the Alola League with Kukui and becomes champion in SM
Ash becomes a research associate to the professor in journeys while training for the world championships and becomes world champion at 17
Would be awesome is they did a guest appearance as a older ash in the new anime with a area zero trouble, the whole hero shows up at the last second concept
here is why i say aging ash was never a good idea the show has shown us pikachus live for around 20-25 years with 25 seasons 25 years pikachu woulda been dead by the end
I never understood why people have such a problem with ash never aging, meanwhile in American cartoons, no one ever truly ages either. South Park has been around just as long as Pokemon and they don’t age, even though the years clearly change. Family guy, The Simpsons, etc. no one ages. Pokemon was never truly viewed as an anime in North America either…so what was the big deal?
I wouldn't even be made if they made a slow release anime about older Ash with a brand new goal and way higher animation budget, better pacing and genuine story beats.
Time this with some insane game release and tons of new merch sales and it'd be some of the biggest marketing strategy in years.

personally I would've liked it if Ash was around the age of 20-25 at the end of Pokemon Journey's and leading into horizon he reappeared as a cynthia/leon character that the new main cast sote to be like. We saw his duhdohhhh moments. I feel like we deserve his epic "Lets show em what the peak looks like" moments too

I would’ve love to see Ash age in the series with how he would evolve to a power house trainer with his free spirit personality. Plus, more catching Pokémon & more battles (especially stretch out in an entertainment fashion).
I have often thought at the most Ash is at least 12 in the anime. I even agree that if Ash aged he could have not only been more experienced, he can even show for as he grows to show how much Ash can still learn as he travels because you are NEVER too old to learn and many people are even young at heart and I think Ash has that potential to be young at heart FOREVER!
they COULD have had 2 series going.. one with ash growing up finishing up his journey as an adult and end with him having finding love then starting family.

Pokemon 3: The Movie opens with a short called PK07 Pikachu & Pichu which ends after Pikachu arrives to a party that Ash held to celebrate the one year anniversary of their meeting.
If we really think about it, ash is supposed to be a portrayal of us of when we were ten years old. So maybe he did grow up, just not in the way we all thought 🤯

So in my head each region takes a year to travel around get all the badges and so on so at most if you assume orange islands and the battle frontier also took a year for ash to complete then ash would have 19 or 20 when he beat Leon depends on when the wcs starts and ends exactly.

same though I think once they added the contests and then showcases and all the other side quests and the decalor island trip and the rebuilding of lumious city in hoenn through kalos it would have been longer then a year traveling before he returned home especially since they had to cross huge regions and were walking which is the slowest mode of travel plus we do not know how much time had past between sinnoh and unova and kalos and alola
I would go with at least a year and 2/3 months for hoenn due to the contests and side quests and then a year and 1 month for battle frontier due to the contests and for sinnoh 1 year and 3/4 months with contests and saving the region from team galactic and then unova main part up to the league would be 1 year and then another 2 months with dealing the team plasma plan and getting to the white ruins and then another at least 2 /3 months traveling the declalor islands then a good year and a half just to get to the league then a additional half a year just to rebuild lumious city and the airport so in all two years just in one region then we have alola it would have to be minimum a year before he starting of the construction of Manalo stadium and by the time ash leaves it would have been around 8/9 months if not a year from then then we can assume at least a minimum of 1 year since has past since he left alola and returned in journeys as burnet looked at least 1/2 months pregnant at the end of the final episode of sun and moon ultra legends
I would assume kanto and orange islands took almost a year to go through I would also assume that the third movie short and movie also took place early in ash's journey in johto so that tacks as I do believe heroes takes place during the whirl islands arc of the final Johto season master quest as the heroes movie uses the extended version of the master quest theme so in all I would say the Johto in all took at least a year to get through so in all the first 5 seasons spanned 2 years

i think Ash Ketchum should be at least 30 at the end of his journey. i tell you why pokemon league are once a year (count how many he attended/ passed on) then you have to think he walking a lot so his journey is x 2 while every other character is bike riding roller skating or use pokemon to fly around. which he doesn't do a lot
