www.bbc.co.uk/markkermode Mark Kermode talk to writer, director and former Moviedrome presenter Mark Cousins about screening films in the digital era...
"I know it's overwhelming, I know you're not hungry anymore, there's so much pizza. You're not hungry for cinema anymore, but try this type of pizza." Great metaphor for film curation.
apart from Moviedrome the series Mark Cousins did that I loved was I think called scene by scene were he sat down with directors and discussed specific scenes from there films the highlight of which was Woody Allen who wouldn't watch any of the scenes Mark Chose but was still happy to talk at length about each of them
+Sunomis I realise that, but there's something pretty special about Mark telling you his opinion on the wicker man, or Alex Cox arguing that he could only think of a few sequels better than Mad Max 2.
Absolutely. I was not as clear as I hoped I would be. What I mean to say is that the Netflix algorithm (to name only this one) is always going to need the average film geek who actually listens to Mark instead of following the computer's recommandation. This user will feed it with the relevant information that will be computed and brought back to the lambda user.
I always find Mark C a highly intelligent, brilliantly insightful and fascinating movie critic/theorist but I do find the strong Northern Irish brogue a bit difficult to listen to for any great length.
I loved the story of film. I learned so much about the history of cinema and great films I have never seen before.
Thank Christ for Mark Cousins

Yep.....Cousins has a great intonation. Pleasant.

I'm surprised that while talking about film curation in the digital age, neither of them mentioned Mubi.
Anyone remember Stephen Fry on Room 101 doing an impression of Cousins? It's on RUclips.
Where
Aww thanks for focusing on Moviedrome for a bit Mark (Kermode)... good memories...
Mubi and the Criterion Collection are in many ways the equivalent of Moviedrome today
Love it...good times
Movie Curation is available on RUclips. Just not in the mass-media mainstream.
~ yay they like each other! i like that . . .
I would sit ready with drinks...snacks etc....and just absorb whatever was served up.... absolute quality....
Purchased. £19.99. Thankyou.
oh man his normal speaking voice sounds so different. awesome dude.
Moviedrome should return with Mark presenting, also scene by scene he did.
5:15 That's so true. I absolutely love his voice!
If this was a job share application Marks then I am happy to inform you...
Bad timing. Thanks for the recommendation!
His voice is like an ear massage
Any chance of I Am Belfast coming to iTunes?
itunes.apple.com/US/movie/id1324149412
Do they have to sit so close to each other?
I want his accent.
Boredom cured
It kind of exists now as RUclips reactions but they sort of go in trends.
curation is vitally important now because leaving it to Netflix and Prime algorithms takes the knowledge, wit and humanity out of it.
~ yes leaving it up to a computer does take the humanity out of it . . .
Even algorithms need people to have knowledge. There's actually an equation that measures it.

+Sunomis No probs. Have a good night! Cheers!
6:01 I beg to differ
