I preordered the A7Cii, canceled, and bought a A7c and spent the difference on 4 lenses. 24mm G, 40mm G, 75mm 1.8 Sigma, and 50mm 0.95 TTArtisan. I'm just a hobbiest and this setup was much more reasonable for my uses.
You could easily do some client work with such setup. People tend to think that pro cameras are huge, complicated etc. Well the C series proves that you can have a tiny but might tool that shoots some crazy good stuff
I've just done the same. Well, I still have my A6000 but this was the upgrade after 10 years. Appreciate the A7C is a wonderful bit of kit, but the ergonomics (grip, specifically) and EVF are worse than the A6000. Really disappointed about that. But I'm looking forward to learning to love it.
i am about to buy a camera, I try to decide among sony a6700, fuji xs-20, canon r6 mark 2 and sony a7c. Do you think going full frame worths it compared to an aspc? or maybe waiting for a7V so that a7IV will get a discount? for canon there is this recent 24-105 mm f2.8 lens. also for the last note: I will probably try to buy the 24-70 mm and, then after a year or so, the 70-200 mm f2.8 lense to cover most focal points. I can get the fuji xs20 and the first 16-55 mm (equal to 24-70 mm on full frame) f2.8 lens directly on the first buy (without getting a kit lens) so it might be more logical to arrive at the final acquirement of the lenses.
Waited for the a7C II to bring the used price down on the original, now seems like a great time to buy. Your videos are perfect for getting into this camera 📸
You said "it's better to spend less money on the camera and spend more money on travelling to take photos". Man that's all I needed to hear, picking up the A7C today.
I use the original A7C and I think it's a great camera. For most of photography styles it's more than enough. The sensor is fantastic, the AF is great, and the small body just let's me be more agile and inconspicuous. The only downside for some people would be the one card slot, which was not updated on the newer models. I personally never had an SD card fail on me, so yeah. I do more photo than video, but the videos coming out of the camera are also great. If you expose and light properly you are not going to run into the 8bit limitations. I think it only shows it's weakness in poorly lit scenarios, where you can see the grain and tearing of the shadows in slog2. In those cases it's better to use Cine4, as it's usually a low dynamic range situation, and you are not getting any more information from the log footage. So yeah, I completely agree with this video. It's better to get this camera, and a good lens, with some pocket change to go out and shoot, than to dump all your money on a more expensive camera
Just like you, the A7C also returned my love for photography! I am having so much fun adapting all my vintage lenses and using some new AF lenses. I see no reason for me to upgrade for many years. You are actually the reason why I bought the A7C. So thank you for your informative videos.
I loved this video. After hours of RUclips review videos and even buying the a7c and doubting my decision, it’s very reassuring to hear this message. Could you do a video on a beginners guide to the camera, and your suggested settings? It would help a ton!
i am willing to wait for the a7ciii, i have the a7c and instead of upgrading, i got the 12-24mm lens. I am happy with the a7c. It is going to be while until this camera becomes my weak point in my setup.
The front dial on the ii/r is also super helpful. It always drove me insane that I couldn't have the exposure triangle on three dials with the original A7c. But otherwise, yup... it's still a great camera and will be a great camera 10 years from now. People get sucked into this incremental update rotunda. But every camera is great now, literally space age compared to what people used to have.
Moved from my starter Canon M50 with a Sigma 18mm-35mm to the a7c with a Tamron 28mm-75mm. This camera actually started my passion for photography and now I do work for tons of people. If you can find it at the right price, go for it
I decided to purchase a Sony A7C in 2024. I’m not waiting a year for delivery of a Fuji X100VI. The Panasonic S9 missed the mark for me as a photographer. The A7C with the 35/2.8 is a cheaper full frame X100VI. I am a street photographer so I value small and lightweight. I am shocked. I watched a Professor Hines and Carty about the Sony 85/1.8 and bought one. It is just about at the limit for size and weight for the A7C. I’m not used to using a long lens like this. I will have to get use to this focal length and size. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
i have ZVE1. starting to love A7C but not the mark ii. I realize i seldom shoot 10bit in video and starting to love taking pictures. Considering to trade my camera for a new a7c, but still undecided.
Just ordered mine from B and H with Random 20mm 2.8. I'm super excited I've always wanted a range finder style camera. My last Sony camera was a Sony a3000 which I sold years ago. Glad I bought it can't wait to shoot with it.
Sir i am new to photography much interested , after seeing your videos planning to get a7c, but im really amazed by the colour science of fuji, whats your thoughts on this. Also my interest is taking family pics, outdoor trip pics, nature photography, which lens will be the best for these, thanks in advance
Been watching this video multiple times to talk myself out of buying the new A7Cii! As a enthusiastic beginner buying the A7C is way more sensable. Would you recommend me to first buy a prime lens like the 40mm f2.5 g or a zoom like 24-105 f4. Can buy both though, will be doing street and travel mainly, perhaps other recommendations? Love to hear you actually recommend cheaper/more sensable options unlike most channels nowadays!
The 24-105 is a bit large on the A7C honestly. The 40mm 2.5 is one of the best lenses you throw on the A7C so it’s hard not to recommend that. If I was in your shoes, with the knowledge I have now, I would choose the 35mm 1.8 (so you have a good lens for lowlight at a versatile focal length) and get the 28-60 kit lens.
Dylan is correct. U said travel and street photography..with a 24-105 on an a7c???...awkward and u will not like lugging it around all day.....we have been there..done that..i wish a sony experia 1 v is as powerful as the a7c 2! That would be perfect!

Hey Dylan, have you noticed much of a difference in battery life on your A7CR? I love that I can shoot all day on the A7C and I'm afraid the A7CR wouldn't be an all day camera without packing a back up battery.
It is worse than the original A7C. I do miss being able to go a full day without changing the battery. It's still not bad by any means though. 2 hours of constant shooting leaves me at around 65%

A7C or A7iii?
I’m quite biased toward the A7C. Flip out screen, better AF and color science. I prefer the smaller body and the only real benefit would be the larger EVF on the A7III
