I have to agree with others regarding the need to clear the grass away from the tent site and especially the fire pit outside. It would be a catastrophe if the grass caught fire and spread. It happens so easily and so fast. Good luck with this addition to the Mapperton adventures. Im sure you will have lots of bookings. xx
Absolutely, and with the intense heat as we have had during this summer the grass is dry and will catch up fire, burn and spread very quickly. Beside that, Julie, you made me chuckle out loud when trying to remember the name of this delicious English breakfast ... it was hilarious! Thank you.
I'm sure they have a whole supply of people that would put out any fire.. Yes I understand it can get out of hand but if you have somebody standing around the fire at all hours it's not going to get out of hand
Hey let me please give y'all a little advice. I would seriously consider mowing that dry grass a couple of yards more away from the fire pit. I've done a lot of camping in many different regions of the US and the UK and a fire can really ruin the trip and damage your land. This is a beautiful setup and I'm definitely going to stay a night the next time I'm in England.

You should really consider cutting the grass around the tents. For fire safety as well as keeping wildlife a bit away from the tent. I’m guessing bugs/insects and maybe snakes would be living in the grass. 💚🇨🇦
I laugh so much with you two. My mom married my dad and became a US citizen from Greece. My dads size is of Norwegian heritage and kept a lot of the European ways. Things like marauder, picture railing (not the same as crown molding!), eating with the fork and knife, Christmas traditions, and more were part of my youth (I mean, we didn’t have to fight off marauders or anything like that). I love this.
That really was the nicest episode they have produced. Julie and Luke are such a charming couple, and they almost persuaded me that glamping would be something I'd enjoy. I know it wouldn't be for me, but I could imagine sitting there, reading, and sipping my G&T as the sun went down... Silence is one thing that I miss from lockdowns. Between lockdowns I took my dog for a long walk at Kenilworth (about 20 mins from home), starting at the castle and going out into surrounding countryside. There was total silence, the airport was closed, and even the cows were making no noise. I have rarely experienced it before because, here in England, it's a crowded place and I have to travel a long way to get to the quiet places.
We Yanks definitely make breakfast like Luke but with a twist: Italian-Americans make a large-ish hole in the middle of the bread, break the egg into that hole. Try it with a mixture of olive oil and butter, it's delicious! In the movie "Moonstruck" you can see egg-in-a-hole made to perfection! (Miss Julie, I like my eggs done over well, too. Maybe because we're both vegetarians?) Y'all just crack me up! I still think Luke's hair needs its own channel. Cheers from North Carolina
@@annehunt787 I don't but if you want a harder yolk turn it over but lightly. You don't want the yolk to break. That's half the fun is breaking the yolk on your plate and it spills onto the toasted part. My mom puts a little apricot jam on her toasted parts. Delicious.
This was my favourite episode yet! What a stunning location. Beautiful and quiet. People will flock to your website to book a stay. Outside of that though I laughed so many times! Marauders and fried toast with fried eggs-hilarious! It’s the English accent Julie. Luke pronounces it maroders but we say (I’m Canadian) marahhhders. Does that sound more familiar😀? Anyway, loved this so much, wish I could make it to England in August.

Yikes! You do not grill food over a fire in a field of dry grass!! I hope you have a good water source nearby. My husband and I lived in a boxcar by a mountain stream with an outhouse for 8 years. Self-sufficiency is wonderful.
I was diagnosed with COVID recently and being quarantined in my bedroom is no fun. I wish I had a glamping tent right now, but watching your videos is making the time pass quicker. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us. Sorry, Julie, but marauders is a word used in the US. There is a team in Ohio called the Meigs Marauders.
Sadly those are useless if there's a brush fire. I'm in Scandinavia where it's illegal to light a fire after mid May in an undesignated area unless it's literally on rocks/cliffs. This was extremely risky and I'm frankly a bit shocked. If there's a brush or woodland fire rewilding will be set back tremedously and the damage can be unbelievable. It takes literally seconds for fire to spread far beyond control in these circumstances. I see mant have commented and would urge they consult their local firedepartment to learn how to safely set the scene for glamping guests using an open grill in the fields. That little square of concrete under the grill is useless in regards to a single airborn spark...
I think it's perfect, what a lovely place to chill for a weekend, I think for next summer maybe an artificial stream for cooling off would be nice, a simple recirculating pump system made to look like a forest stream. Wouldn't have to be deep. Would draw family's with children maybe in hot August.
I echo the grass scenario. If you are going to do this every year it would be good to have a gravel area for the outdoor fire pit - we use truck rims dug into the ground with a 3ft gravel ring on the outside to contain the fire and always have a bucket of water close by for putting out marshmallow sticks etc. Need stone slab or a tile on top of the wood bin inside the tent for a food prep table and cutting board. I love camping. Is there room service for the dishes or do you wash dishes in the sink near the showers? (when the pits aren't in use we put a board over the top with a cinder block on to keep critters out) Love This So Much!! I've never camped in England but I have stayed in a cottage at a Caravan Site. ❤
This looks like a winner to me! I love fried bread and eggs, too. Y'all are doing wonderful things for the land and preserving part of history for generations to come! I hope you heeded advice about trimming the grass a bit more. Thanks for fun videos.
Everything was beautiful and funny (actually I remembered Lord Bret Sinclair camping in The Persuaders), but isn’t it a little dangerous considering the dry season and quite yellow grass? Anyway, wonderful chapter of your life.

Kebab in American English is kebab with a long "a," yes! Marauder is said almost the same, but the "aw" sound of the middle syllable is a little less pronounced. I like Luke's description of the breakfast - "stodgy and high in carbs"! Looks like a lovely camp site.
Absolutely critical to clear that dry straw for at least 10 to 12 feet around the cooking area or any where near lanterns. I would also rock gravel a that same area around the tent to avoid fire danger. Love both of you and your family wish you the best! Luke thank God you found Julie with that good old American work ethic imagination and ingenuity!
From Virginia, definitely kabob, said like "Bob". By the way Julie, I was just out in Oak Park, IL visiting friends, Toured the Frank Lloyd Wright home and an architectural boat tour of downtown Chicago. Beautiful.
We really enjoyed this episode and your Glamping tents looking amazing, great fun, everything thought of and such stupendous views of the beautiful Dorset countryside with views to the sea too. We did wonder about the Fire Pit too! Your breakfast looked delicious but a comment would be that Luke is right 'eggy bread' was a great childhood breakfast but we would have made it by whisking a broken egg in to a cup/mug (which you could perhaps provide) with a fork and then pouring it all over both sides of the bread in the pan and then cooking it. Really tasty! We wish you great success with your Glamping business! Best wishes Christina and Nick, Crediton, Devon, UK.
Imagine a bit of wind blowing your campfire, and one spark flitting into the dry grass...thats all it takes to start a nightmare that no extinguisher will be fast enough to put out before it spreads.

So glad you enjoyed your glamorous camping or "Glamping" experience. I love camping in our USA National and State Parks, and do so nearly every year. Tent, Motor Home or Trailer. All are fun. Your fields and woodlands look gorgeous. I believe your guests who come to "Glamp" will have a wonderful memory-filled time. Ma-raw-der is how the word is pronounced here in the USA. By the way - TMI about the loo or composting toilet outhouse. Just my opinion is not to show the lid up.

Absolutely charming I LOVE it, just wish it was here in the states! Interesting breakfast will have to give it a try.🤤 Thinking the grill shouldn't be touching the tall grass. Perhaps cutting the grass short in a circular pattern & line the outside with river rocks so there's no chance of a brush fire? A fire pit with some wood logs for seats would be a nice addition as well. Other than that total perfection! 👌❤

Your vlogs keep us going so thank you so much . Matthew
He in Alabama, ive eat eggs over medium and fried bread my whole life. With grits sometimes. My fried bread is self rising flour and very cold water, mixed to the consistency of thick pancake batter, poured in skillet the size of a medium pancake. Fried in lard, or crisco til brown on both sides.
My grandmother made fried toast for us when we were children, I made it for my children and now my grand children. It is loved by all! Much better than toasted bread. Julie, Julie, Julie….sometimes I am quite surprised by the things you believe to be English, yet those very things are very familiar to me…a multi generational American Texan, born and raised! I do realize that “American” traditions are actually carried over from our ancestors, many of whom came from England. I Love your channels, and am a great fan. I even purchased the History of Mapperton book. Very good and filled with interesting information. I highly recommend!
I was horrified, as well, seeing the fire bowl surrounded by tall dry grass. Even if it weren't sitting in the grass itself, sparks flying out on the breeze could ignite a fire. I'm so glad that didn't happen. I'm glad you both enjoyed your little adventure. You both made me smile over the word marauding ( pronounced ma-rodding). I bet you've seen the word before. Its just that when Luke said the word it did sound as if he had marbles in his mouth to my American ear. So I wasn't surprised you had trouble saying it. Life's fun moments.😎
Hello Luke & Julie.. your glamping opportunity looks like an awesome experience. Great idea as business project. Great job on glamping tent set up. Love the inside stove and watching Luke make breakfast..whoever heard of "eggy bread?" Julie, as an American, I totally get it.. the Brits are remarkable about what they call things! I'm sure you will sell out on weekends this August 2022. Love your channels. Your Northern California friend, Jane Wyen
Do you have a cooler to put your milk, etc in to keep it cold and from spoiling? Sorry! The view is gorgeous and your food looks delicious!!!! Wonderful staff!!!! The showers look wonderful! I'm going to make eggy toast for my breakfast! Thank you for sharing your glamping!
You both never fail to make me smile & have a laugh! Love the glamping and the views of the typical hedgerow farmland, as well as the rewilding countryside views. Something uniquely British to go to. It’s so unusual to see dry grass in England instead of lush green hills after the exceptionally hot summer! It’s a pity planning doesn’t allow it to be open longer. I’d love to sit there watching the late sunset with some of your elderflower bubbly!
I think your idea of giving the glamping customers a tee shirt is a fantastic idea. Plus having them for sale is a great idea.

This was a great idea to film the glamping experience - it's a great visual of what it would be like. 💛💛
Fried eggs and fried bread are delicious! We have that for breakfast quite often 🙂 -Mobile, Alabama (USA)
I grew up in Germany and my Dad made fried bread for us with sliced fried sausage. Delicious.
Definitely agree about the grass and fires.
My Colombian friend stayed at one,
Bit very finished and in ultra comfortable.
Concrete
Slab must be poured
Fabulous showers!
What a great option to offer your guests!
We love “glamping”, however we do it in an RV!😊
We tent camped for years, though!
Blessings 🙏
What a wonderful site for clamping. The meals looked delicious and to be surrounded by beauty and nature sounds sounds lovely. Thanks for the English lessons and giggles.
a couple lounge type chairs on the deck to relax in and watch the view would be a nice addition
Glamping looks liked so much
Fun. The peace. The serenity
The fabulous view. I love it so
Much. But I live in the u.s.a
missing so much. Love looking
At everything that you two do
Absolutely charming I LOVE it, just wish it was here in the states! Interesting breakfast will have to give it a try.🤤
Thinking the grill shouldn't be touching the tall grass. Perhaps cutting the grass short in a circular pattern & line the outside with river rocks so there's no chance of a brush fire? A fire pit with some wood logs for seats would be a nice addition as well. Other than that total perfection! 👌❤
Wonderful episode! Clamping at Mapperton looks terrific!
Hi Julie, Luke, and BEN,
PLEASE CLEAR ALL TALL GRASS off glancing site.
Also build your deck ABOVE the ground. ..otherwise everything gets wet and
Soaking wet inside and around the tent...see
MARTIJN DOOLAARD tent
Him did in the mts..of Italia on his property..plus
The above ground deck will keep snakes outta the
Tent...♡be safe out there.
Luke's messy hair is great.
Y'all are so much fun.love
Y'all♡
Gosh I really enjoyed this episode. I guess I have to come visit. Thank you for sharing.
Hi how are you doing?
Hello , I love the glamping episode. You both bring a smile to my face with your obviously great rapport . I hope one day to visit , but due to the economy being so bad here it’s hard to travel . We’re going through a really hard time with our furniture interior design business , may go bankrupt but we’re still planning on moving to nsw to the southern highlands for a new start .
I like that it's so light inside the tent.
Love from Tucson Arizona, Southwest America 🇺🇸
Love the tent set up... everyone in Northern Michigan is camping for August. Enjoy
There’s a 2016 American movie called “Marauders”, set in Cincinnati. Good word.
Definitely sale them. Please make sure you pay him for his design. Then profit on t-shirts can be used in the re wilding project!!
Fabulous!
Beautiful area for camp 🏕
I was horrified, as well, seeing the fire bowl surrounded by tall dry grass. Even if it weren't sitting in the grass itself, sparks flying out on the breeze could ignite a fire. I'm so glad that didn't happen. I'm glad you both enjoyed your little adventure. You both made me smile over the word marauding ( pronounced ma-rodding). I bet you've seen the word before. Its just that
when Luke said the word it did sound as if he had marbles in his mouth to my American ear. So I wasn't surprised you had trouble saying it. Life's fun moments.😎
Luke’s Hair ROCKS 💋💋💋
Hello Luke & Julie.. your glamping opportunity looks like an awesome experience. Great idea as business project. Great job on glamping tent set up. Love the inside stove and watching Luke make breakfast..whoever heard of "eggy bread?" Julie, as an American, I totally get it.. the Brits are remarkable about what they call things! I'm sure you will sell out on weekends this August 2022. Love your channels. Your Northern California friend, Jane Wyen
It looks absolutely beautiful 😍 I was worried about the fire pit so close to the dry grass tho!
Fresh eggs whites stay tight and close. Old eggs run out like that. Have a chat with your chickens!♥️
Goats. 🐐
My one word for clearing dry grass around tent sites.
cant wait!
Hi from Roanoke Virginia USA
Hello 👋 how are you doing?
💜♾ThankYou ThankYou ThankYou ♾💜
I’m getting “Out of Africa” vibes. Love it 😍
Hi from New Zealand..loving your vlogs and both of your 'mucking in' attitude ... unpretentious ..
I think nearer a tree would be a better setting
I'm glad I found y'all again . I stopped getting alerts.
