My puppy is 8 weeks old and my vet said not to walk the puppy on the street are anywhere other dogs may go to decrease the risk of the puppy getting parvo! She said to let them pee or poo on the balcony and not to walk the dog for the first 18 weeks until they get all their shots so it’s not laziness!
Great advice. We found sticking to a walk regular schedule helps the most. The dog learns in just days the walk timings and would rather hold on to its pee so it can do it outside in its favorite scenting places.
congrats on your progress! May I ask how old your dog was when you posted this? My pup is so young it doesn't seem to have grasped the concept of scenting yet.
My tiny Chi puppy is still anxious outside. It just sits there taking in the environment but peeing or pooing seem to be the last things on its mind. It's so tiny that I don't blame it for not feeling relaxed, even though I'm always there to protect it.
Thank you for the video. I have 2 questions and hope you can help me. 1. I was told by my vet to not take my puppy outside till she has all 3 shots (16 weeks old). How should I potty train her when we can’t go outside? 2. The place I live get very very cold in winter (-30 C). It’s too cold for my French Bulldog. What should I do in the winter? Thank you.
What happens if the puppy can’t go outside to pee or poo before their vaccination? I’m getting a puppy at 8 weeks and the puppy will need to be potty train in the apartment before going outdoors.
Thanks for your video! I have a question about potty training in an apartment building without a balcony and where I can't take her outside until she has all her vaccinations (due to a dirty neighborhood). If I use puppy pads until she is 16 weeks old, how hard will it be to untrain her at that point, and do you have any tips?
Transitioning from puppy pads to outdoor potty training at 16 weeks old can be a bit challenging, but it's possible with consistency. Gradually move the pads closer to the door and eventually outside. Encourage outdoor elimination, reward successes, establish a schedule, and clean accidents properly. Every puppy is different, so be patient and use positive reinforcement. Best of luck with your training! Nice video. I live on the 5th floor and I am organising everything to get a Staffy puppy. So my approach will be: - stick to the schedule and reward the puppy whenever he does it on the right place; - if it is too late or for some reason I can’t go outside immediately, I will bring him to the balcony where I will have a “grass simulator area” 😂 where he can pee/poop. Thanks for the nice video! I will download the schedule you mentioned.
It's only been 4 months but did you get your puppy ? If so, I'm planning to get a puppy too and was looking forward to the "grass simulator" as well if needed (I live on the 15th floor so I might not be able to get down on time eventually) Thanks !
@@1000OtherFoxes hello 👋. I got the grass and pee pads for the first weeks. But in the end, I’ve thrown away the fake-grass because it was difficult to clean and the smell was horrible 😂😅. So I’ve kept the peepads for some more days and then reduced it to only have peepads in the balcony. She started to get used to let me know when she wants to go, so I started bringing her downstairs by elevator. Now she never pee inside home and I don’t use peepads anymore. I go every two hours +- downstairs or when she goes to the door giving me signs she wants to go out. Now with 5 months old, she holds better so it gives me enough time to go downstairs. (Continue)
The first month was a little frustrating because of the vaccine and I couldn’t bring her downstairs, so i relied only on pee pads. So there were many accidents, specially because she wanted to play all the time with them. But after she got the shots I was able to go downstairs a lot and you get used with understanding the dog and the signs it gives to you. After the first weeks of frustration, if you keep paying attention and learning, everything works fine.
I'm getting a havanese puppy in Nov & live on 2nd floor apt. Just starting to reasearch training methods. I've been told that havanese love to shred any paper, so training on newspapers is out. Am going to try to potty train outside, but have "emergency potty spot" in hallway outside my aptmt - mainly bad weather/snow.

I live on the 20th floor of an apartment building. And work casually, different times every week. Bought my puppy a toilet like thing. He knows to poo on it. But as for pee not quite there yet.
Hey I had a question. My dog usually poops at 4.30 am. We're obviously not awake at this time and so we can't walk him then and he poops on the floor. Is there something I can do to help this?
The hourly pee training isn't an issue. But when you are waiting for your dog to get the vaccinations.. this information isn't as useful. My pup hasn't been wanting to pee or poop at all and is holding it in for 24 hours. The vet said to keep persistent but any advice to get him to pee helps

This is the way I recently potty trained my Chihuahua. I litter trained it, as opposed to letting it go outside, and it was by far the easiest and the best method I have ever used. So what I did was purchase a 24 X 18 wire doggy crate and put a doggy bed, a doggy blanket, and some doggy toys inside it. At the same time, I also purchased a 24 X 18 solid plastic container with high sides that I customized into my new doggy litter box by using a hack saw to cut out an opening on one side of the container large enough so a Chihuahua can enter and exit it easily. Then I added an inch layer of pine pellets to the floor as the litter material. Next, with the Chihuahua puppy inside the doggy crate I butted the doggy crate opening to the doggy litter box opening. As the idea was that the Chihuahua puppy would sleep and play in the doggy crate but when it needed to eliminate, it would eliminate in the doggy litter box. Guess what, it worked like a charm. So for the first three weeks, I kept this up only letting the Chihuahua puppy out to bond and play after I saw that it had very recently eliminated. Then after three weeks, I slid the doggy litter box out about a foot and a half away from the doggy crate. Then I monitored my new puppy closely throughout the day to see if she was using the doggy litter box like she was supposed to, and she did flawlessly. Then subsequently, I slid the doggy litter box on each successive day a little closer and closer to the final designated location for the doggy litter box I had previously picked out. When the litter box was in its final designated location, I then considered my new puppy fully potty trained. In any event, this was not only by far the easiest time I ever had potty training a Chihuahua puppy, but it was the first time I ever trained a Chihuahua puppy without having any puppy mistakes. Moreover, a litter box, as far as I'm concerned, is not only the easiest way to train your pet because your pet essentially trains itself, but overall it's the best solution as well. As I don't have to worry about maintaining a set schedule to let my puppy out. I don't have to worry about whether it is snowing or raining outside or if it is freezing or too hot. I also don't have to worry about leaving the puppy alone for an extended time period. I also don't have to worry about fleas, ticks, mosquitos, or my dog getting a disease another dog left behind. I also don't have to worry about other dogs attacking tiny Chihuahua since she always remains inside the home. As far as the litter material goes, I highly recommend pine pellets because it virtually eliminates all odors and it is quite easy to work with. It's also far cheaper than other kinds of litter materials and does a far better job at eliminating odors. As you can buy a 40 pound bag of the stuff at Tractor Supply Company for $6.79 plus tax and you will use only about two to maybe three bags a year. Meanwhile, when a dog or cat urinates on the pellets, the pellets disintegrate into odorless saw dust. To make cleaning my doggy litter box easy, I purchased a sifting cat litter box as a cleaning aid only. So what I do to clean the litter box since I always flush down the toilet any solids as soon as I see them, is empty the doggy litter box in the sifter of the cat litter box. Then I sift the sawdust in the sifter into the cat litter box below. When all that remains in the sifter is pine pellets, I then empty the sifter back into my doggy litter box and then add about a scoop to a scoop and a half of pine pellets to make up for what was used. Then I empty the sawdust in the cat litter box from below the sifter into the trash since it is odorless. Lastly, I wipe everything down and put everything up until the next time. As I clean my doggy litter box out about once a week. Puppy pee pads are not only expensive, but they are also very disgusting.
Shucks you should have a RUclips Channel. I specifically did a search for how to house break a puppy on an apartment only to waste my time watching this video. Yes I know what's preferred but it's not practical. I'm not standing out in the pouring rain or freezing cold or 100+ degrees and I'm sure my Yorkie pup won't like it either. I'm a senior and not willing to go up and down the steps 20 times a day to take my new puppy out to relieve himself. This sounds like a great plan. I wonder what the "Experts" will think of your idea?
Ok get my new Yorkie Chon on 3/18. I'm going to do this as this is hands down the most reasonable and sensible method I've heard of yet and I didn't have to buy a book or pay for a website to give me worthless information! Kudos!!!
@@donnabarnes8067 Good luck. It worked for me. Hopefully, it will work for you. Not to mention that the chemicals used to stop fleas, ticks, and heart worms in the long run will kill your dog prematurely. If your dog never leaves your apartment, then you want need to use those chemicals.
My dog is 2 years old, she's rescued from the streets. I adopted her 3 months ago and she only goes potty outside. It's great of course, but there are days when I can only take her outside one time, so she holds it a long time. I would like to teach her to go potty on my balcony, but I don't know how. She won't even go to the balcony. She has a lot of fears, so she's very hesitant to do certain things. I've tried spraying products they sell for dogs to smell and go potty, I've tried spreading dirt from outside, but nothing has worked. What can I do to teach her to go potty on my balcony whenever she wants and in case of emergencies when I can't take her outside several times a day?
Puppybee Puppy Training Videos I have a three month old Great Dane, Who we been having a little bit of issues with. Sometimes we take her outside for 10-30 minutes in which she won’t pee and then as soon as we come back inside she pee in the house. Can we have suggestions on how to fix this? We live in a apartment!!
@@chaserio6242 good question. A very common issue. The best thing to do is to find a spot of green nearby your apartment. This should be a very boring spot where there are no distractions for your puppy. Please see the 12 steps I explain in this video below. I think this will help you very much. Hello Puppybee! I adopted a 5 month old mini schnauzer. I want to potty train him because he does it anywhere in my apartment. I live in the 4th floor. Can I use a dog cage to potty train him? Like on the other side of the cage, it’s his bed and on the other side it’s the pee pad? Is it okay? And how many minutes or hours does a dog usually poop after eating? Thanks a lot in advance.
@@shantzcruz7698 Hello! I would not suggest letting it pee and poop in the dog crate. Try to focus on a tight puppy schedule so the dog learns to pee and poop outside. Why first learn it to pee and poop indoors while you can teach it to do it outside immediately? ;-) Check out my puppy schedule: www.puppybee.com/puppy-schedule. Furthermore, I would suggest to give your dog the opportunity to pee and poop before giving it its meal instead of after.
I just wanted to know my options about this topic because intend to adopt soon, and my place is small, and it's a wait at the elevator. I can't raise puppies here, but 1 or older is okay, and 20 lbs or under is the size allowed. Haven't started looking yet, except for what I need to know, like this. Thanks. 👍
I heard on another video that you shouldnt give a treat for a puppy for doing his business outside, the relief from it and praising should be enough, since they can start "ghostpeeing" looking for treats. I'm not sure tho since I don't even own a dog yet. Im getting my first apartment next week and my first dog, a golden retriever in two months! Awesome tips nonetheless! I also have one question. How long are you meant to carry your puppy in the stairs before training him how to get up/down the stairs?
Great work thanks so much 💙 according to my apartment i'd prefer to be at pads .. my question is when puppy be in crate and I'm a sleep or outdoor should i put pad in crate too ?
This is a great video.. thank you for catering specifically to an apartment living family.. I wish you would have included reasons for continued accidents and how to handle them appropriately.
I have a question. I live in an apartment on 8th floor and i think that sticking to a strict schedule would be the best but i have also heard that puppies pee as soon as they wake up is it true? If yes, then it would take me 5 mins to go down, so what do you suggest i should be doing?
Hi, just saw your comment and yes, puppies relieve themseleves as sooon as they wake up. I'm not a dog trainer, but i have watched a lot of vids and would recommend, to take your pup outside in the morning. Well if you are at home most of the time you can be taking them out every 2 hours, but If i were you, i would keep some fake grass or mud with real grass in a cat litterbox and just put my pup there until they pee. Technically they're not using pee pads and the texture what they peed on feels like outside grass so it wouldn't be a big problem to switch when they are older. Also i would give 1 treat when they peed in the litter box and 3 treats when they peed outside. The pup should understand that peeing in the box is good, but outside is even better so they'd prefer to hold it until you go outside to get those treats. I hope that helps and not confusing
I LOVE your videos!! I will have an 8 week old Shih Tzu soon and I live in an apartment. During the night should I wake up the puppy every 2 hours to take him down for potty? Or only if he wakes up by himself? Thanks!
Thank you! At first I would test out whether or not the puppy will wake up. If not, then no need to wake it up. If it wakes up by itself then you can use your alarm to anticipate that next night. Good luck! - Robbin
Hey, I have a question regarding vaccines and taking the puppy outside.. I do not want to use puppy pads or balcony, but I know you can't take your puppy out until its had the second vaccine so 14 weeks old, but from 8 weeks to 14 weeks I want to train it to go outside, what can I do as a precaution to stop the pup catching any viruses?
The question whether you should or shouldn’t take little puppy’s outside is an ongoing debate between veterinarians and behavioral scientists. The second socialization stage of a puppy’s life covers the period between 8 and 12 weeks of age. During this crucial period, puppies need to be socialized to fit in with society. In short, it would be very harmful to restrict your puppy’s world to just your home and garden over the period between 8 and 12 weeks of age. I think it is best to just take your pup outside and start the socialization process. However, do try to avoid parks and dog airing spaces because you know that lots of dogs pee and poop in such places. And I do need to say this: please note that you do so at your own risk. I cannot be held responsible for any negative consequences.
Hey @@PuppybeePuppyTraining! What if we use pads/balcony while ensuring the puppy is socialized well enough by taking him outside to see the world and have experiences with other people/dogs/events while carrying him for example and by taking him to friends' houses? I know it will take longer to properly housetrain them but wouldn't that avoid the risk of diseases while also ensuring he becomes well-socialized? (we live in an apartment in Paris with lots of other dogs in the neighborhood and not that many dog parks so the sidewalk has a lot of pee/poo on it)
My puppy weighs 2lb 6oz at 15 weeks old has the bladder the size of a thimble I live on a high floor in a condo in nyc. It’s 8 degrees right now. No way am I taking him out to freeze I take it to the wee wee pads every 2 hours. You don’t know how to train a toy dog obviously. He will be 5-6 lbs full grown. We have a long way to go before he gets outdoor trained. Especially in the cold weather We use playpens in every room that has papers in each one on half of it. He is doing great. If we have him out of the playpen he gives certain signals he is looking for bladder relief. And I put him on the paper. He usually goes. I tried the grass box he just wants to eat the grass. Maybe at a later date. I’m afraid he’ll want to pea on my plants later. Congrats on the books and success but little tiny dogs require different methods I think. Maybe you can address different treatment for different breeds and temperaments. I’ve had several dogs in my life and they were all different breeds and different reactions. I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet. My Italian Greyhound will be coming home June 19th. I herd that sometimes they don't want to go outside if the weather is bad. I live on the 4th floor.
I'm affraid to have a pup. I live in an appartment with no balcony and spend around 9 hours out to work. Do you think it woud be possible to train a pup to do his thing in a walk in shower tray? this would make it easier to clean and it will have a fixed place to do his thing.
We plan on having our Lab use those turf spots on the balcony specifically made to feel like grass because I'm a stay at home mom and if he needs to go and I'm alone with my 9 month old I can't really leave him alone to take him out.
What if they are TOO young and go outside yet because they are not vaccinated? Can I try the newspaper the first 2 months and later on teach them to go outside?
When I am not supposed to put my puppy on the ground before he's had his shots, how can I train him? Also I live on the 9th floor and may have to wait ages for the elevator.
This was great, thank you! I’ll be getting a puppy soon but I have a question. I live 5 minutes drive from my parents who have a garden - should I move back home for the first 2-3 weeks so puppy can go quickly onto grass (whilst still following the walk schedule) or should I from day 1 be at my apartment and doing the routine? (There’s grass immediately once you’re outside the apartment block front door
I have an area for where the puppy should go potty is but my question is if i have seen the signal they are giving me whether its circling around or sniffing when i bring them down in the lift will they be able to hold it in?
Hey ! Do you have any advice for cleaning after an accident (which products, cleaning in front of the dog or not...) ? I also have an other question, I'm gonna adopt a puppy in august and I will take 2 weeks of from work but after that I will have to go back of course. I will come back at noon to walk him but other than that do you have any advice concerning house-training ? :) Thank you ! :)
Hi Cathy, good questions. 1) don't clean up the pee or poop in front of the pup inside. It will probably think it's playtime and this will result in having associate peeing inside with something positive. You don't want that to happen. 2) In my books, I advise one to always take 3 weeks off at a minimum. Not only because of house-training. The leaving-puppy-alone training will take up a lot of time and energy. Especially if your puppy has problems with being left alone. Please check out my 4th book on amazon about how to prevent separation anxiety: www.amazon.com/Prevent-Puppy-Separation-Anxiety-Hand-ebook/dp/B087CP5494/. In this book I discuss step-by-step how you can make sure your puppy will be at ease and relaxed whenever you leave your house for a couple of hours. But it is important you start with this process the moment you have your puppy home. Especially when you need to leave for work in a couple of weeks. Good luck and let me know if you need anything else. - Robbin
@@PuppybeePuppyTraining You are absolutely right! I clean my puppy's pee immediately and then he starts to bite the tissue and wiggles his tail. I never realized I was rewarding him.
Many people ask me this. I wrote about this in my book. Here's a quick summary: Some veterinarians still advise against taking your puppy outside until it has received all its vaccinations to protect it from potential infections. However, this means that your puppy would be confined to your home and garden for up to 12 weeks, which can lead to insecurity and anxiety in the long run. Puppies are more susceptible to illnesses because their immune systems are not fully developed, and they also have lower immunity due to not being fully vaccinated yet. On the other hand, restricting your puppy's world to just your home and garden during the crucial socialization period of 8 to 12 weeks can have negative effects on its behavior and ability to adapt to different situations. It is important to balance the risk of disease with the benefits of socialization. It is recommended to take your puppy outside for socialization, but avoid parks and dog areas where there is a higher chance of exposure to other dogs' waste. However, if you choose to start socializing your puppy before it is fully vaccinated, you do so at your own risk.
Hello, do you think the potty apartment dog works? It’s a crate with a divider , one side his bed and other side the pee pad, which would work for night time. What are your thoughts? Please and thank you.
I have a question. Do puppies only poo and pee once a day? Lets say u stick to ur schedule, how about later on when they have to pee out of the schedule you have to take them down to do that?
thanks for the video...but a puppy pees like more than 10 times then should i run everytime from 6th floor and also can a puppy use bathroom for peeing
hey I'm planning on getting a golden retriever puppy and i live in an apartment that's not very big so will it be a good choice to get a golden retriever? and i have to walk it even though I'm kind of young(i live with my mom and grandma)and i was just also wondering how many times do I have to walk it and if it's ok to make it go to the bathroom on the balcony at night because i won't be able to take it outside and have it also go to the bathroom on walks?
Hello! You have to walk the golden retriever, but you are 'kind of young'. How old is kind of young? Furthermore, you have thought of what happens to its walking schedule when you are not as much home as you are now? Let's say school, for example? Or work? I also do not understand what you mean by 'have it also go to the bathroom on walks?'. Before you think of getting a dog (big or small) you should do some reading to prepare yourself and know whether or not this is the right time and if it is this what you want. Raising a puppy costs so much time, energy and discipline. I go on walks with my golden retriever 4 times per day. I walk it in the woods where it can run 4 times a day for about 30 minutes each time.
hey I'm getting a 9 month golden retriever and I'm in the 10th floor so it's not eazy to get it outside to poop and my mom don't want the dog in the house so I will put it in the balcony so is it OK?
Do I understand it correctly that you are saying you are getting a golden retriever while living in an apartment and your mom does not want the dog inside? This isn't an ideal situation ... I don't know how big your balcony is but what do you do when it rains or when it is really hot/cold outside? I suggest not taking a dog when you don't want it inside. Dogs are social animals. Please let me know if I misunderstood your question. Furthermore, I understand it is not easy when you live on the 10th floor but still best practices are to take your puppy outside for a pee and poop if you want it to be potty trained fast.
Hi! I got a question concerning transition of puppy potty training. What if you work during the day and it is only possible to feed your dog 2 times and let him out 2 times? Realy concerning to buy your books. Best material available online.
Hey! So the video was very informative. But I just want to know if you pick the puppy if it wants to pee or poop and walk to the balcony... It won't pee on us? In the process you know... And what about when it is left unsupervised... How will it access the balcony?
Good to hear the video is informative. Thanks. Yes, you can pick it up when it pees inside and you can direct it to the balcony. It is very much possible that it won't continue peeing on the balcony but now you have time to clean things up in your apartment where he peed. It is not guaranteed that it won't pee on you when you pick it up. Normally when you pick it up when it pees then the peeing stops but again, no guarantee, haha. Regarding your last question about unsupervised puppy's. That is the reason I advise people to have at least 3 weeks off from work so they won't need to leave their puppy alone for very long. By doing so you can always let it outside on time (most of the times). Good luck!
You mean how to overcome the challenge of peeing indoors? I suggest following these simple 12 steps: ruclips.net/video/-0LtFF3FGkA/видео.html. Let me know if you have any other specific questions! - Robbin
Surely I will watch the video and get back to you. The other specific question if to ask, then it's making them walk with the loose leash. They always try to pull like hyperactive
I have female lab.. Her age is 3.5 months old She already knows pee and potty in balcony But I want to change her place right now Is it possible to change her place from balcony to bathroom??? If it is possible then give me some tips..😀
Do you want it to pee and poop in your bathroom forever? If not, why not go out with it and potty train it for the outside instead of focusing on the bathroom first? Whatever the case, if you don't want your dog to pee on the balcony any longer, don't bring it there if it hasn't peed in the last hour. First, get it the desired spot to pee before going to the balcony with it. Good luck!
Prior to getting a dog I installed artificial grass on our patio for ambience. I'm so concerned that now we're bringing a puppy home, it'll be impossible for him to realize he shouldn't relieve himself on the patio but downstairs in actual grass. 🤦🏾♀️ Tips?
Hi Jack, that depends on several factors such as your own motivation, the origin of the pup (what breeder), the season (winter/summer), etc, etc. If anything is OK with the puppy (health-wise) and you are 100% motivated to get it house-trained then you can do this within weeks. Still, there can be an accident every other month but 99% will be outside.
The problem is that at 8 weeks they don't have full vaccination and should not go to the public street on any schedule... Obviously puppy pads are compensating for a lack of other options.
My puppy is four months I lived in an apartment where I go outside doesn't pee or poo. He is distracted by cars, people and everything outside when I go to my house to pee and poo in the house. I can't take you to the parks because he needs the third vaccine
Love to take it outside. But a puppy of 8 weeks is not allowed to be taken outside due to health reasons. Only after the full row of vaccins you are allowed to do this. My vet strongly emphasised this. If you don’t you risk killing your dog as it can contract viruses such as leptospirosis (believe me. Not funny). So even if you want to, you have use a balcony. Good thing about a balcony though is that at least it learns that it cannot do its business inside the house. I think the idea if of putting some grass there to make a more smooth transition is very useful. So can you please advice on how to deal with housetraining puppies that are too young ? I think you have no other choice but I might overlook something.
I cannot take puppy out as he is less than 3 month So I have to let him pee/poop inside but after 3 month I want him to do outside I don't want him to develop a habit of pee /poop inside Please tell ! What to do?
You cannot take it outside because it didn't receive all its vaccinations, yet, you mean? In my book How to House-train a Puppy, I advise people to go out as earlier as eight weeks because it is essential to socialize your puppy. Insufficient socialization is even more dangerous than going out when not having all its vaccinations. Just try to avoid the big dog walking areas. Do know doing this is at your own risk, of course. I'm just saying what lots of dog trainers told me.
We are currently using one balcony because we have a few on one floor. So our training for the Frenchie is unique. We left the closed Glassdoor balcony open to the rest or the house and our pup would use the pad when she's on the balcony but when the door is open she would poop all over. So we have two options place more pads in selected areas, close some door because we have a large 4 bedroom penthouse on the 6th floor. Or We should first just keep her on the closed balcony with a few pad there and not give her free access to the rest of the house without supervision and additional pads in the area we allow her to be. We've only had her for 3 day now and she thinks every spot is her pooping spot so we need to keep het on the balcony with her bed and training pads
Hi Dewald, good question. I would suggest the close more doors so your puppy only has access to certain areas of your home. The pup doesn't need access to every room. Furthermore, what about going outside more often (14+ times a day) so there is a bigger chance she doing her business there. Let me know! Good luck. - Robbin
The breeder must have trained my puppy to relieve himself inside on pee pads. Now he will actually holds it when outside. I can’t take him out very far because he hasn’t had his second shots
Hii Robbin, I just loved your explanation. I also believe the best and easiest way to make our four leg friends potty trained, is to take them outside. Earlier I wasn't regular to do so. But I can see the difference in just 3-4 days.
I've raised my golden retriever in an apartment the first 9 months. After that, we moved to a different house. The most important thing is not really how big your house is. More important is the amount of time and energy you give your dog. If you spend plenty of time on walks and playing with your dog for instance you don't need to live in a big house. Some people think if they have a big yard they don't need to walk their dog. Everyone should walk their dog to give him mental and psychical exercise.
Hello Robbin! Thank you so much for this video, it’s exactly what I needed to hear! I do have a concern tho, I will be coming home with a Pomeranian pup on August 1 and she will be 8 weeks old by then. I really want to train her to poop and pee outside, but the problem is I live on the 28th floor of a high rise apartment building. Do you think it will be possible for me to still potty train my puppy outside or should I just settle for indoor potty training? Do you have any tips and suggestions for me?
Good question. The thing is when living in apartment buildings that high you need to stick to a very tight puppy schedule. This means going out very often. For emergencies, you can create a place in your apartment for it to go on but I suggest going out as often as you can. >>> www.puppybee.com/puppy-schedule
Alright, I think I’ll just do my best to bring her out as often on a tight schedule. Might as well make the most of the lockdown and do this while I still have time. I actually have been studying your puppy schedule and am planning to base our puppy schedule on it! I’ll figure out a “for emergencies” potty place for her indoors. Hopefully, she won’t have to use it so much. Thank you so much for your help!
Im on a tight walking schedule with my puppy an adult dog i take them out every 30 minutes before i got the pup every hour with the adult. The pup will pee an just fine but pooping he will take small poops an than come inside an poop some more 😑🤬
P.S we stay outside for atleast 15 minutes 10 mims after they pee an poop so they can smell around an hopefully relive them selfs some more. I was thinking having a well trained adult dog would be beneficial for the puppy but hes just not picking up on anything lol jack russles are somthing else my full grown adult dog is a pitbull mix
Somebody better help cause im trying everything in my power to help this puppy’s future but its not working im end up beating the living crap outta this dog
Hi robin, good videos👍🏽 I really think I should potty train inside. Because going down stairs each time😩. It’s not convenient for me because my parents think I’m still to young to go to the park/grass area by myself. I can’t do balcony because I’m planing to get a border terrier, they often get in to trouble, and there are to many places for my dog/puppy to slip through. I was going to buy a potty patch (with fake grass). Anyways great video if I know how to potty train I think my parents will agree it’s the dog thing (my dad is fine with it, BUT.....mom is worried about the pee and poo.💩 do you have a video on puppy/dog finances? If not you should👍🏽👌🏾💩🤢😂
I live in an apartment So I guess I’ll go down the stairs multiple times a day just for my dog to poop/pee 😂 When I get the dog tho.. I have no dog Rn 😭 😂😂 I might get a pug or French bulldog

Do you crate them before going on walks?

So before that your puppy was using newspapers and puppy pads ?
My tiny Chi puppy is still anxious outside. It just sits there taking in the environment but peeing or pooing seem to be the last things on its mind. It's so tiny that I don't blame it for not feeling relaxed, even though I'm always there to protect it.
We are not suppose to take them outside yet because they could get bacteria from other dogs, right?
Thank you for the video. I have 2 questions and hope you can help me.
1. I was told by my vet to not take my puppy outside till she has all 3 shots (16 weeks old). How should I potty train her when we can’t go outside?
2. The place I live get very very cold in winter (-30 C). It’s too cold for my French Bulldog. What should I do in the winter?
Thank you.
I’m in exactly the same spot right now.
That’s also my question. I’m so debating on what to do.

Good job Robbin. I appreciate the good info you provided. My puppy is coming in 8 weeks and I'm preparing now for her arrival. I'll be back!
I don't have a yard, so I will need advice on safe potty training in a leash.
Nice video. I live on the 5th floor and I am organising everything to get a Staffy puppy.
So my approach will be:
- stick to the schedule and reward the puppy whenever he does it on the right place;
- if it is too late or for some reason I can’t go outside immediately, I will bring him to the balcony where I will have a “grass simulator area” 😂 where he can pee/poop.
@@RafaelToscano Thank you so much for your detailed response !! I'll go with the good old pee pad then ☺ Have a good day

Hey I had a question. My dog usually poops at 4.30 am. We're obviously not awake at this time and so we can't walk him then and he poops on the floor. Is there something I can do to help this?
The best thing is a five dollar bath rug. And then wash it every couple of days. ( If you have a washer and dryer.) They love bath rugs!

What if your puppy still pees in the crate and doesn't care about having pee in their den area? I've really been struggling with this
This is the way I recently potty trained my Chihuahua.
What can I do to teach her to go potty on my balcony whenever she wants and in case of emergencies when I can't take her outside several times a day?
did you eventually manage to get her to go on the balcony?

Thank you !
If you pick it up to carry it outside when it has to pee, won't it just pee on you?
Where can I get the puppy schedule?
You can get the puppy schedule on my website. Please see this link: www.puppybee.com/puppy-schedule.
My puppy isn't completely vaccinated yet and can't go outside, how am I supposed to not use puppy pads?
Many people ask me this. I wrote about this in my book. Here's a quick summary:
Some veterinarians still advise against taking your puppy outside until it has received all its vaccinations to protect it from potential infections.
Thank you!

I have a question. Do puppies only poo and pee once a day? Lets say u stick to ur schedule, how about later on when they have to pee out of the schedule you have to take them down to do that?
Puppies pee maybe 14 times a day! When they get older, they can hold their bladder for more extended periods at a time.

hey I'm planning on getting a golden retriever puppy and i live in an apartment that's not very big so will it be a good choice to get a golden retriever? and i have to walk it even though I'm kind of young(i live with my mom and grandma)and i was just also wondering how many times do I have to walk it and if it's ok to make it go to the bathroom on the balcony at night because i won't be able to take it outside and have it also go to the bathroom on walks?
Where is the link to download your puppy schedule?
hey I'm getting a 9 month golden retriever and I'm in the 10th floor so it's not eazy to get it outside to poop and my mom don't want the dog in the house so I will put it in the balcony so is it OK?
Good luck!
My question is, they poop at the particular time but pee time isn't fix. And they pee in the house. How do j overcome this challenge?
You mean how to overcome the challenge of peeing indoors? I suggest following these simple 12 steps: ruclips.net/video/-0LtFF3FGkA/видео.html. Let me know if you have any other specific questions! - Robbin
Surely I will watch the video and get back to you. The other specific question if to ask, then it's making them walk with the loose leash. They always try to pull like hyperactive
I watched the video already. I need to monitor their exact time to pee when they are inside. And how to figure out
I have female lab..
Her age is 3.5 months old
She already knows pee and potty in balcony
But I want to change her place right now
Is it possible to change her place from balcony to bathroom???
If it is possible then give me some tips..😀
u can just that it will take sometime for it to realize
Do you want it to pee and poop in your bathroom forever? If not, why not go out with it and potty train it for the outside instead of focusing on the bathroom first? Whatever the case, if you don't want your dog to pee on the balcony any longer, don't bring it there if it hasn't peed in the last hour. First, get it the desired spot to pee before going to the balcony with it. Good luck!
Thanks for your reply..
Yeah I wanted to teach her business in bathroom only
Bcoz i am a working girl so it is not possible to take out everytime..
Prior to getting a dog I installed artificial grass on our patio for ambience. I'm so concerned that now we're bringing a puppy home, it'll be impossible for him to realize he shouldn't relieve himself on the patio but downstairs in actual grass. 🤦🏾♀️ Tips?
We already trained my puppy to do it at home but we know want him to go downstairs. Any tips?
Get to the choppah!! :D Anyway, good tips.
"Get to the choppah!! :D" you're making fun of my accent or what do you mean? 🙃 Have a nice day! - Robbin
He's Dutch, not Austrian... And for a second language his English is brilliant.
How long will it take (roughly) for a puppy to learn to pee/poop outdoors if you follow the tight schedule? Is it weeks? or months?
Hi Jack, that depends on several factors such as your own motivation, the origin of the pup (what breeder), the season (winter/summer), etc, etc. If anything is OK with the puppy (health-wise) and you are 100% motivated to get it house-trained then you can do this within weeks. Still, there can be an accident every other month but 99% will be outside.
Puppybee Puppy Training Videos it’s a labrador and it Will be during This summer. I heard they should be pretty Quick in learning to Pee outside
Ty!
Only after the full row of vaccins you are allowed to
do this.
Thanks I am buying a shih Tzu and spitz mix breed and your tips will really help
skip to 1:02 if your lazy
Always helpful to skip the intro ;-) I do the same when watching RUclips videos, lol :-D
I think ima put some boards on my balcony for it to be safer and put some grass and dirt
okay but what if you have elevator traffic? then what?
I cannot take puppy out as he is less than 3 month
So I have to let him pee/poop inside but after 3 month I want him to do outside
I don't want him to develop a habit of pee /poop inside
Please tell !
Or
We should first just keep her on the closed balcony with a few pad there and not give her free access to the rest of the house without supervision and additional pads in the area we allow her to be.
Good luck. - Robbin
Definitely hard in this heat that’s for sure
The breeder must have trained my puppy to relieve himself inside on pee pads. Now he will actually holds it when outside. I can’t take him out very far because he hasn’t had his second shots
Hii Robbin, I just loved your explanation. I also believe the best and easiest way to make our four leg friends potty trained, is to take them outside. Earlier I wasn't regular to do so. But I can see the difference in just 3-4 days.
Thank you for your kind words. Appreciate that. Good luck with your puppy!
@@PuppybeePuppyTraining thanks man, I would really keep looking forward to your videos. I liked the way 😊🤘
Random question can golden live an apartment?
I've raised my golden retriever in an apartment the first 9 months. After that, we moved to a different house. The most important thing is not really how big your house is. More important is the amount of time and energy you give your dog. If you spend plenty of time on walks and playing with your dog for instance you don't need to live in a big house. Some people think if they have a big yard they don't need to walk their dog. Everyone should walk their dog to give him mental and psychical exercise.
@@PuppybeePuppyTraining Thank you! I do have time to play and go on walks :D
Thanks for the info 👍🏻😊
@@pattycustodio4995 You're welcome! Good luck with potty training your puppy.
Wauw nice video!!😉💪🏻
Thank you!😀👋
Im on a tight walking schedule with my puppy an adult dog i take them out every 30 minutes before i got the pup every hour with the adult.
If not you should👍🏽👌🏾💩🤢😂
Can I use diapers
It's best to teach your puppy where it can go potty. If you were to use a diaper it still doesn't understand where to go potty in the future.
Great video; you sound like Arnold lol
getting an aussiedoodle soon while apartment living and i hope we can make it down the elevator in time! hahaha
I prefer balcony, it's easier and the less chance your dogs will get fleas from stray dogs. Training could be hard now
I am getting a indian spitz
I live in an apartment
So I guess I’ll go down the stairs multiple times a day just for my dog to poop/pee 😂
When I get the dog tho.. I have no dog Rn 😭
😂😂
I might get a pug or French bulldog
My advice would be get a Frenchie, poor pugs have problems with breathing because of their too short noses 😔
if you get a pug and you have to go down stairs a lot, i wouldn’t really recommend a pug because they have difficulty breathing
I\'m not sure but ,if anyone else trying to find out best way to train a puppy try Loctavan Quick Puppy Strategy (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some amazing things about it and my colleague got great success with it.
Good video but man you’re intense.. take some distance from the camera and slow down a bit. Just trying to help. Keep up the good work!
Thank you for your tips! Will take that into consideration in next video!

lol :-D
Mate, what about you have to go work? It can't take it self out? Nonsense smh
Why can't you put diapers lol
