Hi Rachel! Hello to Fin and Bentley as well! 😍 new subbie here! your videos are helping me out so much. I’m picking up Jasper (cavapoo) in January and am excited! Do you recommend taking him out every hour to potty? Or shall I play it by ear? Please advise thank you so much for your time!!!
@@Untitledthoughts1111 The first week we did every hr during the day time also took him outside after naps and after he eats. At night time we let him sleep but he wakes up after 4-5 hrs but he has gone 8hrs too. So far no accident at night but a few during the daytime and mostly our fault if we ignore the cues he gives us. He normally starts walking around sniffing the floor before he needs to potty . The key is to be consistent if he has an accident we always take him outside. We also create trained the first night we brought him home and I highly recommend it. Good luck!!
My puppy is 3 months old and has been pretty good at going outside for wee and poo but today sh won't go today she's weed alot in the house today what shall I do when I go out there with her she just sits there
I will have a pup but I live alone and I work, so I will train him to potty train in a litter box, it will be better for him, I think it's a good idea when I can't come home to take him out as I want and as he need.
Thanks Rachel! I've watched all of your videos that are SO helpful. My question is how do you potty train when you don't have a yard. I have a city apartment, so my only option is walking down a hallway, two flights of stairs and stand on the steer/by a little tree panting square. And when I take her outside she is distracted and confused by all of the pedestrians and just holds her pee or poop until she comes back inside. I tried staying outside with her for longer chunks of time but she just lays down and people watch. I'm trying potty pads but she just wonders off it and waits till we're playing or something on my carpet and just squats in the middle. I've caught her every time, quickly carry her to the potty pad but she is always done by the time we get there. HELP!
Hey Rachel… I have a question… How do you play with your dog outside, in an open area….I saw in one of your videos that you should play with your dog outside, without a leash. I don’t have a closed yard and I don’t want my pup to run away because I don’t have a closed yard/backyard. I do have a lot of greenery but it’s just too open. Should I just play with him inside or outside but with a leash?
Huge question! We recently got a second puppy. She has become slightly aggressive to my other puppy. Every time they play she is biting. We are not sure how to curb this as she doesn't bite us. Please help! Thank you!
My puppy is only 8 weeks and I have to use pee pads until she’s vaccinated, do you recommend anything else? I don’t want her to get used to them but we can’t take her outside yet.
The only problem with pet insurance is you need to pay the vet then you submit it to pet insurance for whatever the reimbursement is. If you don't have money upfront I don't see the benefit if pet insurance. If I am missing something please let me know
Rachel, our rescued puppy has learned to ring the bell to go potty. However, I regret it because when it recently snowed here in New Jersey, he would not go potty with the snow. Frankly i didn't want him out there in the cold either. I wish i would have trained him to ring the bell but the door to the garage, and for him to potty on training pads. BUt my question for you is, can he be "Re-Trained" to go potty on the pads??? or is it too late at this point ?? He goes outside, and he has NOT had accidents inside....but he refuses to potty elsewhere other than the backyard. Please advise.
What do I do if my puppy has started to mess around outside !? I take him out all the time but he's started to just play with stones and he has started having a few accidents inside 😪 I don't know what to do now. He wants me to chase him outside. I try not to but I don't want him to eat anything he shouldn't ! X
I need help 😢😢 I've been potty training for over a month and he still goes inside. I take him out every 30 min. But he gets so distracted by all the sounds and smells outside so he doesn't always go... What else can I do??😢
Mine goes inside RIGHT after we got outside. Every 10 min is what I have to do it’s exhausting all week😔 if I forget and it’s been 20 min she has an accident?!!!
If I play, my puppy can in the middle of the play very quickly sit down and pee so it is impossible to have the time to get her out. This makes me not want to play cause she most often just in for ex the middle of tug just pee or when running for a ball. :( Live in an apartment. I always take her out when it has happen (and once an hour) but its hard to hold puppy at the same time to get your jacket on but if i put her on the floor she can continue pee. Also, i can be out over 1 hour (in her "pottyplace") and try to be really boring and just wait her out and once we come in she will pee or poo. Also - it is so frustrating taking her out cause she will eat EVERYTHING, ciggaretts, tissues, poo. Plaease help on what to do. I have had her for a week. She also eats very very little and drinks little too. Can it be that she has just been so short time with me?
Once my dog had been puking several times a day for a couple day/ but that was his only symptom yet we were worried about a blockage because he did spit up a yak chew nub. It was a sad experience to not be able to go in (during covid) and I had to decide whether to get him an x-Ray…I hated how price was a factor in that moment. I was also worried about radiation exposure but I hope it was minimal. Being a pet parent can be stressful so we’re doing pet insurance
@@PhatAsss yes! He was 2 and we did the x-Ray he was fine so it made me think maybe I shouldn’t have…but what if ya know? Hopefully did the right thing
Do you have a video for fully indoor training your puppy on pee pads? I live in a rented apartment, taking him every two hours out for Potty break is not an option! Besides my landlord hates dogs . I know I should have planned this before adopting! But I didn't plan to adopt him, he was a stray puppy before , and it was such a situation that I couldn't leave him in the street
I take my 5 month old puppy out probably 12 times a day. I'm always running her out. She starts sniffing or circling, and I take her out. She never barks when she needs to go. I've had a bell system for a month and she's never hit it herself when she needs to go. I feed her on a strict schedule, and sometimes she poops 4 -5 hrs after I feed her. I reward her when she goes potty and praise her before she's done. Sometimes I'm outside for 45 min at a time. Today we were out for two hours while I tried to get stuff done waiting on her. Came back inside and she peed on the floor. I watch her like a hawk. It's always the second I'm stirring the food or when I go the bathroom and then she goes on the floor. This happens about 4 times a week. Wish it were only pee! She's crate trained, and I try to tether her inside. I don't scold her and I try to rush her out if she starts going but usually by the time I reach her she's done. Seriously taking four hours a day in my yard trying to get her to go potty, and so many more hours where I can't concentrate on much else because I'm being observant of her behavior. Months of this, and I'm exhausted. So discouraged by the idea that every accident is adding to the idea that she should go to the bathroom in the house. :( The trainer says she's smart and a fast learner. Ay ay ay! I hope someday this works out!
Curious to know how this worked out! I can't take that long outside, otherwise, very similar. My puppy LITERALLY can't make it 15 min. I try the half hour timer and stay out for 5-10 min. Decreasing it to a 20 minute timer. Perfectly crate trained though through the night and work hours!!!
i appreciate your videos! However, as a single woman i will not be taking the dog out at 3AM in Brooklyn NY😆…i keep pup in crate and he cried first few nights but then thats it! Human safety first🙏🏾. Im up at 5am to take her out (when other dog parents are coming out of sleep fog as well😆)
My puppy won’t poop outside. She will pee no issues but she will not poop…we have taken her outside every 30 mins since we brought her home 2 weeks ago (except at night) she was doing great until this week! Now all the poop is in my house. HELP
What would be your advice for someone who is single and works a 9-5 job? How would that person be able to train a puppy for potty training? Would it be better for someone to find a dog that is already potty trained in that scenario or is there a way to make it work? I want to be a dog owner one day but I don't want to put the dog in an impossible situation if that's not what's best for him/her.
What happens if you live in an apartment? I think it would be nearly impossible to take the puppy out every hour. Maybe every 4 hours. Pls let me know.
don’t get one yet lol or get one older it’s hell right now i know my neighbors hate me bc my dog barks all the time when im gone and also always needing to take him outside is a hassle from the 5th floor. idek what to do at this point haha this girls videos help tho
@@newera8388 I don't mind taking them outside. But I'm now just worried because they haven't been fully vaccinated, and there's lots of dogs in my apartment. Hahaha
I got the potty grass ! It helps so much . So it reminds my pup of outside so when I’m not home she uses the fake grass and it has a tray at the bottom and I can wash all of it ! I work 3 twelve hr shifts every week so this has worked for me. And I live in a apt too
Hello Rachel. My puppy is 99% housetrained. That being said, however, my 5 year old Shih-Tzu has never really been housetrained. She will potty outside, but also inside. I can take her out and she will then come in and potty. How do I stop this?
It’s been 3 weeks since we got our 5 month puppy. We took her out every 1-1.5 hours and she still would pee in the house right after we came back from outside. Can someone help?
I have watched another video that said puppies don't always empty all of bladder, so should wait a little more when outside to get your puppy to empty it fully.
When a puppy is older (like 5 months), sometimes it can take a little longer so stick with it - and make sure she fully emptied her bladder outside. Sometimes it takes a few tries
I have $4000.00 coverage for insurence and a $250.00 deductible. Should I get more coverage then that? I started to question the amount but I don't anyone with pet insurence.
Just from personal experience, depends on how much you would want to pay out of pocket overall and each month. Unfortunately vet bills are so expensive for for example, one of my dogs needed to stay overnight and this was minimum $1300 without anything else. Before we knew it, we had racked up a bill for $6000. Currently my puppy has $10,000 coverage but we’re also in Southern California and everything is more expensive here 😅
Yikes. I didn't get up this often with my children. I'm struggling to understand how anyone could possibly maintain this regimen. Seems like this would decidedly turn most people into non-dog people. Pretty much has done that for me.
Hi there! I know it seems daunting and difficult, especially with kids in the mix. Puppies take a LOT of work and dedication. The more time and energy you can put in to train them when they are a pup, the happier everyone will be when they are a grown up dog. Although the time and energy won’t stop once they are grown, pups/dogs are a full time commitment, but training them often and early make things easier for the whole fam. You’ve got this!
@@RachelFusaro what do you do when the dog won't use the bathroom outside there is some times where we take him out and he will just sit and do nothing and then we bring him back in and then he will go. For example I took him out he just sat in the grass looked up at me and then started sniffing and then chewing on grass. Bring him back inside a couple minutes go by I hear this loud BOOM and then I hear crying on the baby monitor. My youngest fell out of bed so I bring him down to comfort him and as soon as we walk down the dog starts crying and I'm just like nooo he either 1 needs to use the bathroom or 2 he doesn't want to be alone so I get my son settled and walk into the kitchen and the dog has pooped on the floor 🤦 it's so hard to get the dog out with the kids.
12 videos on potty training and NONE of them address what a person could do if the dog has to go potty in a area that has EVERY possible distraction. I can't control that outside has birds chirping and cawing, neighbor dogs barking, wind blowing, rains storming, soaked ground, cars, tricks, semi's trains, etc going by, and more. What am I supposed to do then?! Bc going out frequently doesn't mean a thing if each time my dog goes out it's too scared, anxious, or distracted to go!!
I strongly suggest going to the better business bureau and look at reviews and complaints of all pet insurance. Do not make the choice off of a RUclipsr that gets paid off of a company.

I take him on the carport, but he doesn't potty there. He is using the puppy pads though. Is it ok to do this since he can't go out on the grass?
I need help out of all my dogs my recent pup is not taking to potty training I take her out every 30 mins or hour if I'm busy and she still pees inside after she's pees more than once outside
Is there ANY advice you have for training deaf pups??

We just got a Cavapoo puppy. Congratulations enjoy your puppy.
@@selamY217 did you have to take your pup out every 1 hr or 2?
@@Untitledthoughts1111 The first week we did every hr during the day time also took him outside after naps and after he eats. At night time we let him sleep but he wakes up after 4-5 hrs but he has gone 8hrs too. So far no accident at night but a few during the daytime and mostly our fault if we ignore the cues he gives us. He normally starts walking around sniffing the floor before he needs to potty . The key is to be consistent if he has an accident we always take him outside. We also create trained the first night we brought him home and I highly recommend it.
Good luck!!
@@selamY217 thank you so so much for the advice! It is greatly appreciated, happy holidays!
Rachel, you mentioned not feeding or giving water too near bedtime. When I put my puppy in the crate at bedtime, should I remove the water?
I’ve heard her say yes to this
My puppy is 3 months old and has been pretty good at going outside for wee and poo but today sh won't go today she's weed alot in the house today what shall I do when I go out there with her she just sits there
I will have a pup but I live alone and I work, so I will train him to potty train in a litter box, it will be better for him, I think it's a good idea when I can't come home to take him out as I want and as he need.
Use a long line! Works amazingly for my dog who has a hard time with recall
If I am missing something please let me know
RACHEL! PLEASE HELP! 7 month old puppy still excite-pees, does it ever stop? Is there ANYTHING I can do???
Awhh, when did that happen and is your dog ok now?
@@PhatAsss yes! He was 2 and we did the x-Ray he was fine so it made me think maybe I shouldn’t have…but what if ya know? Hopefully did the right thing
@@prairiefaerie that sounds good!! Hope your dog recovers soon
Are you training puppies? Or selling insurance?
is that finnigan?
I have the same problem! And now is our dog full potty traning?
i appreciate your videos!
I am in this exact position! What I am doing is hiring a dog sitter from Rover and she comes over and lets her out of her crate when im at work.
Currently my puppy has $10,000 coverage but we’re also in Southern California and everything is more expensive here 😅
@@morgenashli Thank you for your good advice. 👍
Yikes. I didn't get up this often with my children. I'm struggling to understand how anyone could possibly maintain this regimen. Seems like this would decidedly turn most people into non-dog people. Pretty much has done that for me.
Dang man I have a small puppy I can't take them out every 30 minutes when I have a 4 year old and a 13 month old 😰
Every 30mins is ridiculous lol. Never done that and house trained all my dogs😊
I work 12 hours. Do you have a job…
Great video Rachel, as always. Please keep up the good work.....*S*...
I strongly suggest going to the better business bureau and look at reviews and complaints of all pet insurance. Do not make the choice off of a RUclipsr that gets paid off of a company.
