    I have a 9 week toy poodle. Thus us week 2 of potty training. He poops and pee during the day but sometimes pee on my area rug. He goes to be at 830 and sleeps throughout the night and does not whin at all. He has not pop or pee in the crate at night at all. Should l wake him up in the middle of the night be so he is only 9 weeks? Your video says his bladder is still small...l do not want to hurt him but l do love my sleep and l really think he is doing great during the night...Oh. I feed him at 730, 100 and 6pm.

    I have a half Maltese, half Shih Tzu mix who is 11.5 weeks old. I was taking him outside to train him but there was a severe thunderstorm and will last for a week. It’s disrupting my training so I changed it to a fake turf & pee pad but it’s not working out. I’m crate training him (it is the correct size for him) but he keeps pooping and peeing in there. When I take him to outside (before the storm) or on the pad, he refuses to go. The minute I put him back in, he immediately poops/pees.
    I also want to know if puppy should be allowed toys in the crate and how long he should be in the crate and how long he should be allowed out of the crate during this training period. Thank you!!!

I am so worried once we add the door to it (it has not arrived on time), and I am so worried our dog will be confused then. Also, could you please give me any advice on how do I leave him for work in this space?(not sure if raining pads would fit) He is now going to the garden-but what if no one is home? I am terrified. I'll be getting a puppy soon and live in a house, but my backyard doesn't have grass, it is all wood. I have a park close to my house and plan on bringing my puppy there to potty during the day, but at night I don't want to walk alone in the street. I also don't want to use pee pads inside the home at night. What can I do? Do I use fake turf or pee pads in my backyard? Or is there another option?

    I have a question about potty training my upcoming puppy. Can I use pee pads at night but let it go outside in the morning and throughout the day?

    • @PuppybeePuppyTraining
      @PuppybeePuppyTraining  4 года назад +9

      Hi Emily, good question. Of course, you can use pee pads or newspapers. It is not that everything will be lost if you use it. But if you ask me, "Robbin, what will be the fastest way to house-training my puppy"? Then my answer will be to let it pee and poop outside all the time. I feel that even using your garden or balcony at night is better than peeing indoors. So again, if you can find the energy to let it go outside, then that's the best thing. If you don't want to do that, then the second-best option is your garden or balcony. The last option is to let it pee inside.

    Ive been crate training for about 3 days. seems my pup does in fact wake up around 1:30-2am but I put her down to bed around 9:30-10pm. I do tire her out as much as possible. I was always under the impression that I should tire her out at 2am again to try and get her to sleep till around 5-6am, but maybe I am doing the wrong thing in teaching her to be active at night. I will adjust starting tonight and will take her out to pee and poop and immediately put her back in the crate. I have a feeling she will cry for much longer than usual but I will just ignore it.
    I sleep downstairs on the couch next to the crate, but I do cover the crate with a blanket because I read that it helps them feel like it's a den. She usually cries for 5-10 min then goes to sleep. not sure if it's working or not to be honest. Ill try sleeping directly in line of sight to her tonight and see if that helps. Any tips or adjustments are much appreciated and thank you for the video!!

      Had to come back and reply to myself in case this helps anyone else. Holy smokes, I blew up an air mattress and put it about a foot away from the crate last night. holy cow could not believe how silent the night was. I had set 2 alarms about 2 hours apart and on the final stretch of the night she lasted about 3 hours and 45 min. During the night potty brakes I did as you recommended. No lights, no praise for good potty, no treats . Nothing. Just out for 5 min or so to do business and back in and straight to bed. I think this will end up working for me. Now just gotta figure out the daytime routine haha. I was covering the entire crate with a blanket and that seemed to work (about 10-15 min tops of crying/whining) but I dont want to change too many variables now that the night routine seems to work so will leave partially covered but still plenty visibility.
      TLDR + what my plan moving forward will be in case it helps anyone:
      - last meal + water pulled at 7pm
      - lights out 9:30-10pm (I try to start really tiring her out at 9, 2 hr after digestion)
      - first alarm 1 or if I hear puppy moving around and its close to 1 potty break
      - second alarm 3
      - no final alarm unless puppy lets me know that they need to go out.
      - will increase span by 30min every 2 weeks and see if I can get it to 1 potty break per night.

Because I live in an apartment block I set up a playpen area for him in the kitchen with his crate and designated potty area both inside the pen. Do you think I still need to close his crate at night and wake up to let him potty or should I just let him sleep anywhere in the playpen so that he can go to the potty area when he wants?

    My wife and I have a dilemma. We have a 11 week old doberman and got him at 8 weeks. After the first 3 days he was sleeping all night in his crate with no accidents. But for the passed 4 days he has been pooping inside his crate overnight. He starts to cry in the middle of the night and when we go to let him out he has already pooped. If you could suggest reasons as to why he is pooping in his crate suddenly and if you could recommend steps to prevent him from pooping overnight.

I’ve had other dogs before and never had an issue potty training either of them, the Rottweiler(5months) lab(2months and 8years) are potty trained but my GSD he’s 8 months old and I’m struggling, he does not potty inside during the day, but he does in the night inside his crate, I’ve tried soo many ways and I’m tired and have given up, I have a fixed schedule for them, and even over night it’s not much of a gap, in he day he goes 4 times and the food is 8 hours apart, in the day he has an 8hour gap between his potty but I put him in the crate only for six hours and he still goes, He is crate and house trained but for potty I’m needy and desperate for help😭

      You can try a night without setting an alarm. Check the next morning whether its crate is wet or dry. If its wet you can set an alarm. For example if its last evening walk is at 11pm you can set an alarm at 3am for example. Then wake up at 6am and start your day ;-)

    Great video. Quick question...I would like to get my puppy trained for outside toileting as much as possible without the use of any pads in the house.
    1) therefore during the night is the best approach to set an alarm and let him out a few times?
    2) if I do start to catch him in the act in the house...do I shout or clap my hands to distract them then lift him straight up even if he's in the middle of it?
    Thanks

    • @PuppybeePuppyTraining
      @PuppybeePuppyTraining  4 года назад

      Hi Colin, thanks. Great to hear you liked the video. Good to see you are trying not to use puppy pads. I think with this strategy, your puppy will become house-trained faster.
      1) you can try it out without setting the alarm the first few nights. Do place your puppy next to your bed so you can hear it if it needs to go. If you notice it needs to go in the night, the best thing is to set the alarm, yes.
      2) I would not suggest scaring the puppy. Just pick it up and place your puppy outside. He probably would not continue peeing outside (if you are lucky it will, and if so, praise him for that), but this is your chance to clean up the living room without the puppy having the possibility to start a play session.
      Good luck!

    • @PuppybeePuppyTraining
      @PuppybeePuppyTraining  4 года назад

      You can never totally prevent your pup from peeing inside the crate. The only thing you can do is not having water inside the crate so it cannot drink at night. I do not advise people to stop giving water in the evening, for example. We and also your pup should be able to drink water during the day and in the evening. Just place the crate beside your bed so you hear when it wakes up, and you can allow it to relieve itself outside.

    Great video. I don't have a crate and I am keeping my new puppy in the toilet downstairs because it is closer to the exit garden. I did not close the door just put a small piece of wood to keep her safe inside. Do you think I should opt to keep her inside a crate instead? I'm writing this on our first night with her and it is 4:49 am lol. It was a bit of a nightmare.

    • @PuppybeePuppyTraining

      Hi Sergio, my advice for every new puppy owner for the first couple of days is to place your puppy next to your bedside. By doing so you can hear her and you can calm her down if needed. This does not have to be in a crate. You can also use a cardboard box for example with a nice and warm towel. Please let me know if you have another question. Good luck. - Robbin

    Hi, thanks for the great video. I made the mistake of starting off putting pads inside my pups enclosure and leaving his crate open at night so he could come out and pee, but then he was peeing all over the house in the day. So I realised the pads have to go, so last night I closed his crate door and I came down at 4am but he had done a poo in the crate. I took him outside and then back to his crate and he cried non stop and woke the house up. I am upstairs and he is down stairs but after three weeks of having him he is used to the crate in this location. If I set my alarm earlier than 4am, how can I keep him calm enough to go back to sleep without rocking him like a baby?

    • @PuppybeePuppyTraining
      @PuppybeePuppyTraining  4 года назад +2

      Hi Pamela, where does your puppy sleep? Maybe you can bring it with you to your bedroom and place it next to your bed when you wake it at 4 am. Then you can lower your hand to its crate to make it calmer while being half asleep yourself, hihi. You can also give him a chewy bone or something else to chew on. After a few minutes, you remove the chewy bone, and hopefully, it goes to sleep then. It is a trial and error game. Try to test different things. Every dog and situation is unique.

      You're puppy still needs its mothers tit. I would go to a vet and buy some puppy formula and not worry about potty training at this time until it is it least 8 to 9 weeks old. That poor little puppy is looking for its mother and that's why it whines so much. It should never have been taken from its mother that young.

    My 5 weeks old puppy usually potty in 2 to 3 waves. I notice that when he pees, and I let him run around the living room to reward him, he pees a few minutes later in the living room. Should I let him out for a pee, take him back to crate, then let him out roughly 5 minutes later? Or, let him out for a pee, and wait till he pees at least twice, before taking him to crate/living room.

      Hi Julian, your puppy is 5 weeks old? This is really young. Normally it is best to take a new puppy away from his mother and siblings when he is 8 weeks old. To be honest, I don't think you should focus that much on potty training just yet when your puppy is still that young ... wait until he's a little older and then start focussing on potty training and other training methods. Just enjoy the first weeks together and start the training phase when it is 7-8 weeks old.

      @@PuppybeePuppyTraining hi robbin, thank you for the reply and your videos, much appreciated. They have been really helpful. Their mother ran away when the three puppies were 4 weeks old, and so we're trying to take over the mother role as best as we can. It's been a week since the mother ran away. Okay, so I'll just focus on feeding them well and seeing them grow up. And as you said I'll start potty training and other trainings when they are 7 to 8 weeks old.

      @@shuttlemania7 didn't knew that. Respect for what you are doing! If you have multiple puppy's then you can create a puppy den if you haven't done so already. Make sure that the den stays clean of pee and poop. So if they pee and poop there make sure to clean up after them. That is something the mother always does. Good luck.

      I wouldn't worry too much about potty training, because this puppy needs its mothers tit still and I would go to the vet and buy some puppy formula for it until it's at least 8 to 9 weeks old, and then concern yourself with potty training it. It should never have been taken from its mother that early

      Please check the first few nights if your puppy pees inside the crate at night. If it did, then you know it probably will do the upcoming nights as well. Can you maybe set your alarm at 2 am?

    My puppy is 12 weeks, schedule is 7am (potty) but she doesnt potty at 7am, then at 8am i feed her then bring her out again. Feed her at 1pm, walk afterwards and potty, then 8pm eat and walk and potty afterwards. Would my puppy poop n pee at night still in the crate or will she be able to
    hold it in until next morning at 7am

    • @PuppybeePuppyTraining

      Firstly, it's best to walk your puppy before giving it his food. Please Google: "bloat gtv."
      Furthermore, there isn't a general rule of thumb that if you do X, then Y will happen. Every dog and situation is unique, so you looking at your puppy and situation is essential. But in my experience, a 12-week old puppy cannot hold it for 12 hours straight-therefore, you need to go out one more time in the night. Good luck!

      I don't know that much about raising a puppy who's only four weeks old. Usually, the breeder can provide you with instructions, but if the pup isn't from a professional breeder, you can contact your local vet. Good luck!

      That's right it should still be on the mothers tits. In my opinion, I would go to the vet and purchase some puppy formula so he gets all of his nutrients that he is needing for the next four weeks.

      I would never wake a sleeping puppy. You don't want to get a puppy used to going every single hour of the night. Having the puppy next to your bed will allow you to wake up when he starts stirring around and whining. Not giving him water the last hour of the evening and wearing him out every night will help elongate the hours that he's in the crate

    Hello I have 2.5 months old poodle and she wants to pee and potty always different places . I have pee pads but she likes to pee sometimes next to that . Night she can leave her cage I made small place to get out to pee but she is pee in her bed and like to lay on pee . I thought dogs doesn't like to pee on their bed. What can I do how can make her habit to pee on pads?

    • @PuppybeePuppyTraining

      Probably not the answer you're looking for but I suggest going out more often so she pees less inside. Now you are potty training it twice. First on the pads and then outside. Check out my puppy schedule: www.puppybee.com/puppy-schedule. Furthermore, indeed 9 out of 10 dogs do not like to soil their on bed. Maybe your dog doesn't mind, unfortunately ... :/

    • @PuppybeePuppyTraining
      @PuppybeePuppyTraining  4 года назад +2

      Your pups age is 67? I think you mean 6-7 weeks? If this is the case then he is still really young. It is normal that your pup poops that often ... You cannot train a puppy to not poop. You CAN train it to poop outside. You can do that by setting an alarm at night. Also by placing the crate or his bed next to your bed so you hear him when he wakes up at night. Good luck!

      I guess you can't because you are living in an apartment or without any green spot nearby ... Then you can also create a place on your balcony or in your garden. A special place only(!) for the nights. Then it will be OK to do so. Let me know if you need any more help.

      Breeders in the United States don't give the puppies to a new owner until after they are eight weeks or two months old. Before then they are still cycling on their mothers tit and should not be in a regular home.

    • @PuppybeePuppyTraining
      @PuppybeePuppyTraining  4 года назад +1

      In my opinion, it's best not to use them, but it's your own choice, of course. My advice is to explain to your parents why you want your dog next to your bed. Maybe let them watch the video themselves to understand you don't want your dog next to your bed just because it is fun. You do this because it is best for your dog. Also, it is not forever. It's just a temporary solution for potty training and for the dog to get used to its crate and new home.
