    In a nutshell; to stop puppy crying you need to know why your puppy cries:
    1. It can be because your puppy didn't receive proper crate training. If not, then you should start there. Please also see: • 6 Tips on How to Crate... .
    2. Is 3 a.m. usually the time at which your puppy starts to cry? Chances are it needs to pee or poop.
    Furthermore, it is good to prevent crying from happening in the first place. Please follow these tips:
    1. Give the puppy a nice treat that will keep it occupied for a few minutes, like a chewy bone, for instance. Don't leave your puppy alone with a toy or chewy bone, though.
    2. During the first 15 minutes, put a bowl of water in the dog crate and allow your puppy to drink.

      This comment is a bit old, but for anyone else dealing with similar issues, it's important to know that most puppies usually get along fine with crates-some even love them! However, if your puppy is really upset, like the person mentioned, you might want to try a different approach. A dog playpen can be a good alternative. It gives your puppy more space and doesn't have a top, which might help them feel less confined.
      Just remember, playpens don't have the same potty training benefits as crates because they're bigger. Crates help puppies learn to hold their bladder since they don't want to mess up their sleeping area.

    My puppy is almost 3 months old. He goes into the crate no problem. He will even play in there. I put his food bowl and he eats no problem. But the second I shut the door you’d swear something is killing him. I tried to leave him in the crate for 10 minutes and he just cries, scratches and tries to chew is way out. He’s panting so bad it’s a bit upsetting. I make sure he has gone potty so I’m at a loss. Any suggestions?

    My 7 mo puppy cries for no reason for hours every morning. Doesn’t cry in his gated area at night only in the morning right when he sees me. Potty and water and treats does nothing. He might go quiet for a few seconds but if he hears or sees me again he whines again immediately I can’t even catch a real quiet moment to let him out until at least 2-3 hours when he gives up but after weeks of this he isn’t learning and continues to do this. It’s driving me crazy I’m angry now because he pooped in his bed instead of the pad area and poop on his kong toy.

      Sorry for the late reply. I hope you're okay. I'm sorry to hear that you're facing this challenge with your puppy. Morning whining can be frustrating, but it's important to approach it with patience and understanding. Here are a few suggestions that might help:
      1. Establish a consistent routine: Dogs thrive on routines, so having a structured schedule can help alleviate anxiety. Try to establish a set routine for waking up, potty breaks, meals, playtime, and training sessions.
      2. Gradual desensitization: Your puppy may have developed separation anxiety or excessive attachment. Gradually desensitize him to your absence by practicing short departures and gradually increasing the time you spend apart. Reward calm behavior and gradually extend the duration.
      3. Provide mental stimulation: Boredom and lack of mental stimulation can contribute to excessive whining. Make sure your puppy has plenty of toys, puzzles, and activities to keep him mentally engaged, especially during the mornings when you need some quiet time.
      4. Crate training: If your puppy is comfortable in a crate, you can use it as a safe and cozy space during the mornings when you need some uninterrupted time. Introduce positive associations with the crate by using treats, toys, and praise. Gradually increase the duration he spends in the crate.
      5. Seek professional help: If the whining persists and becomes a significant challenge, consider consulting a professional dog trainer or behaviorist. They can assess the situation and provide tailored guidance to address the specific needs of your puppy.
      Remember, patience and consistency are key when working with a puppy. It's important to approach training with a positive mindset and avoid getting angry or frustrated. With time, consistent training, and understanding, you can help your puppy overcome this behavior.

      @@PuppybeePuppyTraining yeah I tried putting kong in with him and treats in there he just flat out hates being confined period. If I leash him inside he’ll pout and act depressed, in the gated area he has room to move around but cries immediately after being put in no matter what kind of conditioning I try. He pooped all over his bed blanket and stuffed bunny and his kong (treats uneaten) I got tired of washing everything so I no longer give any toys. I think I need to remove the bed and reduce space. Hopefully that works. Thanks for your reply.

      @@rachaelflores3810how is it going now? I've had dogs at my parents but now first time my own. Night 2 atm and he drives me insane already. If he is quiet it's for a little while. He also suddenly wanted to bark at the fridge.. amd my gf was also dead tired and sleeping so i was so pissed. I kept my cool, grabbed him away from the fridge, distracted him, lured him with some candy to the crate , closed it and turned all lights off and left.. finally after 10 min he became a bit quiet but im not sure for how long. We are both drained already from almost no sleep.. idk if we can hold on if this continues when we barely have sleep.

      @@Marcelino1098we had no choice but to crate him upstairs in our room but he whines incessantly unless I cover the crate so he can’t see anything. We’re going to be gradually moving him further away and out of the room eventually downstairs. Hopefully covering it and leaving tv on low volume to start will help him adjust without constantly soiling his crate which he does anytime he’s confined and alone even for 30 seconds. I’m getting really tired of this.
      Plus he’s 9 mo old now and has regressed in potty training multiple times even with potty bell training. He is very pushy, needy, clingy and hyper…and doesn’t listen a lot. He gets distracted easily too so we’re going to get him neutered soon because currently his flat refusal to cooperate prevents progress in obedience training which we’ve been doing for months. (Haven’t neutered yet because our vet left and every place around us has a 2-3 month wait time)

      Crates can provide a safe and secure space for dogs, especially when owners can't supervise them. They're useful for potty training and preventing destructive behavior. It's also a personal choice; some dogs love their crates, while others are happier sleeping freely. The key is ensuring your dog feels comfortable and safe, whether in a crate or on the bed.

      Mocha sounds adorable! At 5 weeks, she's still quite young and adjusting to her new surroundings. Typically, it's recommended for puppies to stay with their mother and littermates until at least 8 weeks of age to help them develop important social skills.
      I don't have experience raising a puppy from that young age, so I'm not sure what the best advice would be in this situation. I hope everything turns out well, and you both enjoy your journey together. Thanks for watching the video!

      It's common for puppies, especially beagles with their strong bond instincts, to cry when left alone. To help Tobey, practice short, positive separations. Leave him with a toy or treat and calmly leave the room, returning after a 10-30 seconds without making a fuss. Gradually increase the time apart. Always reward calm behavior and avoid making a big deal when you return. This will help him feel more secure and reduce the crying over time. Also, in my book How to Prevent Puppy Separation Anxiety I list a detailed step-by-step approach on how to teach your puppy to be home alone.

    My 4-1/2 month old German Shepherd/Australian Shepherd puppy is good in his crate. I trained him to go in by making it a pleasant place where he gets treats, has his meals, and he has a comfortable place to rest. I kept the door open for the first few days when he got here six weeks ago. It took some training of me getting further and further away until he would be quiet without constantly having to have me in his sight. He still gets upset when I go upstairs to the bathroom or to one of the rooms up there to get something. He sits there whining. This happens even when all his obvious needs have been met. He does not like to have me out of his sight.
    I never reward his whining with letting him out of his kennel or sweet-talking him. He gets no benefit from whining.
    However, when I leave him in the cab of my truck and go get groceries or go out to a friend's farm to do chores while they are away, he does not whine. I leave the window open so I can hear him. He looks at me through the window, and watches me. I come back to check on him and he's lying down quietly on the seat or chewing on one of his chew toys or a bone. Why can he not do this in the kennel, too? Can he learn? How do I teach him?

    • @PuppybeePuppyTraining
      @PuppybeePuppyTraining  2 месяца назад

      It sounds like your puppy is making good progress with crate training! You've done a great job creating a positive environment in the crate with treats and comfort, and it's good that you're not reinforcing the whining behavior.
      The difference in your puppy's behavior between being in the crate and in the truck might be due to the different environments and his perception of your departure. In the truck, he might feel more secure because he can see you through the window and knows you're nearby, even if you're out of sight for a bit.
      To help him feel more comfortable in the crate, try gradually increasing the distance and duration you're away while he's in there, similar to what you did before. You could also try giving him a special toy or treat that he only gets in the crate to make it an even more positive experience. Over time, he should learn that it's okay to be in the crate without seeing you and that you'll always come back.
      It's also possible that he just needs more time to adjust. Puppies often go through phases where they become more attached or anxious, and these phases usually pass with consistency and patience. Keep reinforcing the crate as a safe and positive space, and with time, he should become more comfortable being alone in it.

      In my book "How to Prevent Puppy Separation Anxiety," I advise new puppy owners to take three weeks off work to care for their puppy, allowing the puppy time to adjust to its new environment. During this period, I recommend not leaving the puppy alone for an hour or two initially. Instead, gradually increase the time the puppy spends alone over these three weeks. This gradual approach helps the puppy become accustomed to being alone without experiencing sudden, prolonged periods of separation. This method can effectively prevent separation anxiety.

      Try to cover his create with a blanket, front, sides etc. it helps them feel safe and stops over stimulation from sound and light around them make sure it’s comfortable in there too soft blanket. Before putting the puppy in try spending an hour a day throwing a treat in there, playing with them while they’re in a crate with their toy make it a fun space for them to be in they’ll learn to love it.

    How to leave open a few days when you introduce crate correctly on first day? Ill need it that night.

    • @PuppybeePuppyTraining
      @PuppybeePuppyTraining  2 месяца назад +1

      Introduce the crate as a positive space by placing treats and toys inside. Let your puppy explore it during the day. Feed meals inside the crate to create a positive association. For the first night, place the crate near you to comfort the puppy. Gradually increase the time the puppy spends in the crate, keeping it calm and rewarding.

    I see many people here who thinks it's okay to just let them whine and whine and ignore them. If you do this with a baby it can leave abandonment anxiety, and mental scars. Same for puppy. And don't expect a dog at 6 weeks, 12 weeks 16 weeks to just never whine. I'd you put them in the crate too fast, it will be a battle. It will associate the crate with being ignored. Listen to this video, he explains it so well. Was just surprised about the comments where it seems no one listened to the video. And yes dogs are different, some dogs barl more than others, some cry more than others. Like kids, and infants. Only thing you can do, is comfort. So it feels safe, move ahead gradually. Praise when doing what it's told, correct when not obeying. And never attack, or punish a dog physically. Just like with kids. Fear does not give respect, it creates a scared dog, and those tend to be unpredictable. Hope this makes sense to someone.

      Well How do you correct when there not obeying though my almost 4 month cane corso puppy will cry, bark, dig and bite the crate for what seems like 10-20 minutes and maybe up to 30 minutes and ive seen all kinds of things to possibly stop him from doing all his crying in the crate like rewarding for calming down but I'm not sure Rewarding for stopping to cry when he is calm because he might just think if I cry for a while then stop ill get hotdogs and the things is for the most part he learns quick and he'll go into his crate when I say knowing he will get rewarded and praising him when he is quite or calm just doesn't look like it might work and or seem to work and correcting him with a verbal/corrective marker(word/sound) dosen't do anything when he starts to cry and stuff and I don't know if these crate games that I do with him in the crate will do or even do anything to futher show the crate is safe and fun ,i don't know what to do I am going to try the ecollar when I have learned it enough but that will be a while and I need this problem to stop ASAP!!!

    • @PuppybeePuppyTraining
      @PuppybeePuppyTraining  2 месяца назад

      It's normal for puppies to cry at first. Make sure the crate is a positive space with toys and treats. Try covering the crate with a blanket to make it cozier, and ensure the puppy has had enough exercise before crate time. Be patient and consistent; it takes time for them to adjust. And if it's really not working you can also use dog fences instead of a crate. Some puppies prefer that instead.

    Can someone answer this question? I let my puppy eat, drink water and play, when I put her in her cage at random times she starts barking out of control and won't stop until her cage door opens. What should I do? (And yes I have tried to give her treats, her toys, sit with her but she still cries)

      First time dog mom here. We just got our pomsky March 2023 at 10 weeks. The first week she cried and bark all night I would time her if she don’t stop in 10 mins, 15 mins or even 30 mins I’ll go downstairs and check on her. Eventually I found out puppies have a lot of energy but luckily get worn out quickly too and I have small children so we stuck with a routine after dinner she gets her walk, the kids play with her then she knocks out. Took me about 3 weeks sticking to this routine religiously and she finally sleeps through the night no more crying/barking. Also potty trained as well within those 3 weeks. Hope all is well with ur dog now.

      @PuppybeePuppyTraining  2 месяца назад

      In my book "How to Crate-Train a Puppy," I explain that if your puppy falls asleep outside the crate, you can gently pick it up and place it back in the crate. Some puppies will continue sleeping comfortably inside the crate. However, if your puppy frequently leaves the crate to sleep elsewhere, observe whether it genuinely dislikes the crate. If your puppy is content being in the crate when you're taking a shower or doing other activities, then it's okay if it prefers to sleep on the floor. However, if your puppy becomes distressed when placed in the crate, consider using dog fences instead. Some puppies are more comfortable in a fenced area than in a crate.

      We live in an appartment. He pees and poos nicely on the mat but we want to teach him outside. I did a late night evening walk and he didn't do anything. Moments later in the house he went on the mat for pee and poo... Idk what to do

    • @PuppybeePuppyTraining
      @PuppybeePuppyTraining  2 месяца назад

      This comment is a bit old, but for anyone else dealing with similar issues; this is a common issue many dog owners face. Try extending the time spent outdoors and praise him when he successfully pees. It's important to monitor whether he actually pees during these outings. If he doesn't, he might relieve himself indoors upon returning. A helpful tip is to visit a specific, less stimulating potty spot outside consistently [find a very boring spot basically]. Repeatedly visiting the same spot helps him associate that area with going to the bathroom. Consistency and patience are key in reinforcing this behavior.

    My cavapoo Ernie is 12 weeks. He sleeps quite well in his crate at night from 11.30pm till around 5.30am. I have monitor on him and sleep upstairs. My problem is he follows me everywhere and when i put him in his crate he barks and whines loudly even when i am in the room with him.. I want to start leaving him for periods during the day and build up to maybe an hour or 2 at the most. He isnt scared of the crate and often takes himself into it for a nap. Mostly he sleeps by my feet.

      I understand how tiring it can be when your puppy cries and has disrupted sleep. Here are a few tips:
      1. Stick to a consistent routine for meals, potty breaks, and bedtime.
      2. Establish a calming pre-bedtime routine.
      3. Ensure your puppy gets enough physical and mental stimulation during the day.
      4. Adjust the feeding schedule to avoid late-night meals.
      5. Gradually adjust waking time to encourage longer sleep.
      6. Consider seeking professional advice if the issue persists and/or read our puppy training books.
      Hang in there, and with time and consistency, things will improve!

      Getting a new puppy can be an exciting but challenging time, especially when it comes to crate training. Here are some tips to help address the crying in the crate:
      1. Create a positive association: Make the crate a positive and comfortable space for your puppy. Place soft bedding, toys, and treats inside the crate to make it inviting. Feed your puppy near the crate or inside it to create positive associations.
      2. Gradual crate acclimation: Introduce the crate gradually and at your puppy's own pace. Start by leaving the crate door open and let your puppy explore it freely. Encourage them to go in and out of the crate willingly, rewarding them with treats and praise.
      3. Short periods of confinement: Begin by closing the crate door for short intervals while you are present. Gradually increase the duration, always rewarding calm and quiet behavior. This helps your puppy learn that being in the crate is a normal and safe part of their routine.
      4. Provide mental and physical stimulation: Make sure your puppy gets plenty of exercise and mental stimulation throughout the day. A tired puppy is more likely to settle down in the crate. Engage in interactive play sessions and provide puzzle toys or chew toys to keep them occupied.
      5. Use comforting items: Consider using items with familiar scents, such as a blanket or toy, inside the crate. The scent can provide a sense of security and comfort for your puppy.
      6. Avoid reinforcing whining behavior: While it's natural to want to comfort a crying puppy, avoid letting them out of the crate when they are whining. Wait for a moment of calm before opening the crate door to avoid reinforcing the whining behavior.
      Remember, crate training takes time and patience. Each puppy is different, so it's important to adapt the training to suit your puppy's individual needs. If you continue to struggle with crate training, feel free to check out our videos on crate training or our puppy training books.

    Adopting a puppy is just like adopting a child. I'm adopting a two month old baby on December 1st. She won't be a puppy she will be a human baby. I've already got it worked out where I'll have a 2-hour schedule. I'm going to try to let her cry a little bit like you're supposed to but it's going to be so hard on me because every time she cries I'm going to want to pick her up. My grandfather is going to help me with that. He's so brave and heroic about everything he always knows what to do with me at different things

      I don't have a child myself (yet), but I can see some similarities. I won't put my child in a crate, though.😆 Hihi. Good luck, and make sure to enjoy the journey. All the best to you and your family.

    the point of putting puppy in a crate is to train it to poop and pee on the potty, giving it not so many space so he/ she will need to poop and pee in the spot that we wanted, until it's used too pooping and pee on that potty thing then we can let it go from the crate and just let it roam the house and make sure to place more than 1 potty if ur house is big enough

    • @PuppybeePuppyTraining

      You are correct. Crate training definitely helps with potty training. It also has more advantages though such as preventing puppy biting, giving your puppy the rest it needs, etcetera.
