When I was in the Navy I, like many Americans, was naieve to think that we have something extra special going here in the USA, and that we enjoy a degree of freedom that no one else does on Earth. I was so wrong. - “Freedom” is a word that conveniently unites us, but we think of on very different terms.

There have been a lot of stories, either triumphant or disastrous, but even so, you can’t deny how much was taught and how much was expressed, throughout the course of America’s life.

Educating our Country's youth about Democracy, the cost of Freedom, and reading/understanding the U. S. Constitution, this needs to be a requirement in order to graduate from High School and University. So that we may restore peace and respect once again in this great country we call the "United States of America". Happy Birthday America!

That story about walking past a guy drinking beer on his porch and having him say “Freedom!” sounds like one of those stories Don Draper would tell to start a pitch meeting. Really nice and totally made up.

I wanted really bad to trust Sebastian Junger, but I just heard him say on Bari Weiss's podcast that January 6th came close to a coup. That's absurd. It's totally idiotic. I hate when someone who seems so bright says something so stupid. He just crumbled a little in my eyes.

I have a simple observation about your piece on Sunday Morning. You’re not going to like it.
For a moment, try to imagine the Americans who stormed the Capital Building on Jan 6 did NOT for the reason you proffer.... to intimidate and control YOU (and those you speak for). Imagine these Americans stormed the Capital to do just the opposite, to defend and protect their Freedom from intimidation and control.
It’s this balance of Freedom that is most misplaced and misunderstood by everyone, including you. How can anyone have Freedom if not willing to fight for it? Americans celebrate Independence (Freedom) Day today because it was a noble fight worth fighting.
If you want to learn about freedom, go ahead and elect authoritarian #GQP cheating seditious traitors who will impose a police state, change the constitution, force daily Bible study, and continue their transnational organized crime activity. You think Vlad is gonna let you keep your damn guns? You think the #GQP won’t privatize our Country just like the Russian oligarchs did, and steal all the money? Wait til Russians start taking over your jobs. You’ll learn what freedom is when you lose it. All over conspiracy lies. And you’re not going to be happy.
