My 1 year lawn is just as bumpy as yours is here. Is it recommended to let the new lawn go 2 years before laying sand and leveling? Sitting a half hour north of Dallas and trying to outdo my neighbors with constant mowing, scheduled fertilizers, and lots of water. Already beating everyone around me by having no weeds! Love your videos!
Appreciate that. Thanks for watching. 1 year is all I'd wait. I wanted to level in year 2 but had too many other projects going on to get it done. We'll try to get to it this year, 3. Hope this helps. Thanks again.
Your lawn looks better being less then a year old then many established lawns in my area! Your philosophy and approach to lawn care works very well Travis! Can't wait to see this lawn continue to progress
@@BudgetLawns anytime! Mind if I ask what golf clubs your rocking with in your bag? I've seen the clubs in the background when your in the garage numerous times and have been meaning to ask you what clubs you have in the bag
It's kinda nice not feeling like you have to just because a date hits on the calendar. I'll likely roll with this plan in the coming future. Thanks brother. Looks like you're about to get lots of rain!
I had the dog pee thing happening and didn’t even realize it. I threw some fertilizer down the other week after my summer scalp but def had the no burn dog pee going on. Great tip!
I try to guide my dog to different spots so his pee makes my lawn look great...just kidding...about to fertilize one last time this week. As a new home owner, I want to thank you so much for the advice. I feel like I'm literally going through the same thing as you every video you put out! My lawn is looking great, but is lumpy which I will deal with next year. My wife literally says "what does that RUclips guy say" and I have been following your advice religiously. Thank yoU!!! Man that’s great. Appreciate you sharing that. It’s nice to hear that the videos are helping people out. That’s what it’s all about. Thanks so much for always tuning in and supporting the channel! 👊👊
Thank you. Still lots of weeds in there. Raising the height of cut really helps to hide them so they don’t stick out above the turf. Appreciate ya watching.
Do you need to allow a certain amount of time to pass in-between applying pre emergent and fertilizer? I live in North GA, about to put pre emergent across my lawn. One section of lawn is bermuda that's still pretty dormant, but there's another section that's a different type of grass (unknown..) that has already greened. Because that non-bermuda section is already green, I think I should apply fertilizer now (thoughts?) instead of waiting until May like I will for my bermuda section that I'll fertilize separately. Appreciate any guidance.
Whatever is green now is a cool season grass you likely don't want there (poa perhaps). I wouldn't fertilize. I wait to fertilize when the bermuda is around 75% greened up and only fertilize the bermuda. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
@@BudgetLawns very helpful, thanks for the quick response! Although that section of lawn may be cool season grass, there are several pretty large dead patches of dirt that have started to sprout clover, etc. Is there an option to fill that out to cover those dead patches or is it a lost cause and I just need to re-sod with bermuda? It grows very thick, green and quickly throughout our hot summers in Atlanta. Thanks again!
Depends on if you have Bermuda there already and plenty of sun. With those two in place along with proper watering, fertilizer and lots of mowing the Bermuda would spread to fill them in could take a lot more time but that doesn’t bother me.
I follow you from time to time and am very happy with your info. I been trying to shorten up my lawn it's to tall. I got it down to 3" but can not get lower because the grass lies flat Ana the blade misses it. How can I get Gass to stand up?
Thank you. Appreciate ya. You need to come at the grass from different directions. It lays the grass over going one way but coming back the opposite way will be stand it back up and get a cleaner cut. Hope this helps.
Hello Travis, I followed your spectricide advice to get rid of weeds, it worked, it’s has been like 3 weeks now since treatment. Should I fertilize now, I had some bad areas so I seed those areas. Also, should the grass be dry? And when to water after fertilization? Thanks for your help. I am in South Canada so it will be cold by Halloween. Thanks
@@BudgetLawns so fertilize and immediately water?? Sorry I am new on this. It’s a new house and we decided to go with seeds instead sod, since the area was very big. My old house we had sod and I was manually removing all weeds so always under control.

I just googled yard measuring tool and found a website that lets you outline your yard and gives you the square footage. There are several out there I think. Can't remember which one I used. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
Good question. I don’t use pesticides so I’ve honestly never read the label on the product. If it needs to be watered in, I suppose you could. However, I prefer to apply my different treatments separately at different times. Sorry I don’t have an exact answer for you. Thank you for watching.
☀Great video! I like the dog pee test. I actually thought about the same thing this weekend. The dog is burning the back, but not my front. Have a great week!
@@BudgetLawns Interesting- So I thought dog pee burns Bermuda and turns the spots brown..? I have both burnt spots here and there (that I know are my dog pee areas), along with dark spots that may (?) be pee spots too.
Dog pee does burn the grass and turn it brown if it is well fertilized. At that point, the pee becomes an over abundance of nitrogen and burns it. Since my lawn needs fertilizer, the dog pee does not burn it because it’s not too much nitrogen. As to why you have burn spots and dark green areas…who knows. It could be a number of things. Lawns aren’t typically perfectly uniform. Deeper spots can be greener. Spots in general can just be healthier and greener. The pee may burn some spots and not others if the dog pees in the morning with dew in one area and later in the day with no dew in another area. The lawn is not a good place to find perfect consistencies. Hope this helps. Appreciate ya watching.
@@BudgetLawns Thank you! Yep- completely agree & understand we’re up against a lot of factors when it comes to essentially trying to harness nature while getting a good lawn.
Look at those salt streaks on that 🧢. Somebody was working hard today! I just threw down on 2 yards today before the rain comes in later. A 1/2 fert of some 8-8-8 since I’m not sure how much rain is actually coming, and will throw down the other 1/2 after mowing this Thursday before the next big rain event. We need that free water here in Texas, and it’s coming in hard this week! Great video and ps, I hope you washed off those dog pee spots before rubbing your hands in them! 🤣
🤣🤣🤣 clean hands for sure. Man, looks like the rain is coming for TX. I hope ya get bunches. We were supposed to get some so I was gonna throw some fert down too but it looks like most if not all will go south. Hit and miss storms at best. I’m gonna wait till a higher chance. We got 1.5 this past Wednesday. Missed my chance. Thanks so much for watching and commenting as always. 👊👊👊
@@BudgetLawns That free water is always the best, you can definitely tell the difference too. After a $200 water bill last month, my grass is still green with only a few scorched spots…but man that natural rain water without all the chlorine and other chemicals in there just kicks the grass into overdrive! It can even get away from you quick if you can’t stay on top of the mowing. After this summer scorcher, I’m ready for round 2 of growth and to get it all filled in again before winter. That’s how it is in Texas, 8 months of summer and 4 of winter!
