Hey Ryan got a question… I’m planning on overseeding this fall, and I noticed I’ve got fungus in my lawn, should I apply fungicide first and get rid of it, or should I apply after overseeding? Will it even effect the seeds/new grass?
I planted my first major renovation project about two weeks ago... mid August and I'm already seeing the baby grass popping thru. I will overseed the rest of it probably after labor day. You have taught me so much these last two years. Thank you sir.
You first point 100%. I did a complete renovation last year. Newbie. We have warmer falls and short season before temps are just too cold. I seeded too late even though it was “65” barely got any growth before winter. Suffered throughout all year because of it so looking to overseed sooner rather than later and get 1-2 mows in this fall before it gets too cold!!!
Had a few bare spots last fall. Didn't get around to planting new perennial ryegrass till late October, early November. I live in upstate NY and the seed still germinated last year and looks great this year. Ryegrass is awesome.
As I attempted to say (before someone had to ruin the nice comment)it's been nice watching you grow in your online careers and the success you created. You and Kelsey are talented and you'll always have a loyal customer with your online store since I can't seem to rid myself of bentgrass
Just got done aerating picked up the phone to order my sand and this video popped up. Throwing down some Ryan Knorr Elite Perennial Rye. Perfect timing.
Finally seeing the beautiful state you live in I like it here I'm in fort maddison right now heading to des Moines then cedar rapids within the next couple days !!! Love you content man keep up the great work!!
Ryan, ever thought about using an agriculture type irrigation system (corn/bean fields) for your plots? The ones on wheels. It would eliminate the need to have static irrigation lines planted (static would limit you in the future if you ever wanted to increase or decrease plot sizes). Your plots are identical in terms of size and you have a adequate walking space between each lot for the wheels of a mobile irrigation system to move. The system could make slow, consistent passes over each plot, yet be mobile enough to allow future alterations. Property looks good, keep on killing (and growing) it!
Dont think ill be able to do much this year but you better believe this winter im going to binge watch your videos because come spring im doing a 100% front yard redo. New dirt, new grading, new type of grass, aeration, dethatching. Yea im a newb but im sure you'll help me get through it! Amazing work and knowledge.
Hey Ryan long time fan of your videos had a few questions If you have time. We just built our home I was able to seed the front yard this spring but had to wait until fall for the backyard once I had irrigation. I live in Idaho and I’m planting kbg we’ve had a very extreme summer most 100 degree days on record and still more to come. I’m trying to figure out when I should put my seed down as are first frost is typically around Oct 15th I’m going to pre germinate the seed so hopefully that helps with the success rate. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Agree with you. I like to get fall seeding going earlier and later for reasons you stated. I want the seedlings to mature as far as possible before a hard frost.
I think I screwed up I applied ( image all in one weed killer hose sprayer) to my lawn last week and was planning on over-seeding this week. First frost is 10-31-22. Can I still over seed ?
I've noticed it will try to rain and I would like to plant the grass so it sprouts with 1-2 weeks of those 90 degree days and then get these rainy days after just a little bit of stress so I'm thinking july 4th plant
Love the videos - we live in Snoqualmie WA and although we have some hot days (like 10 over 90 a year) it is not that cold in the winter but OMG we get double the rain of Seattle - 56 inches but it all comes in the fall winter. No rain for 10 weeks so far.. I love lawns (tall or short) but I also have a 75 lb rough collie who loves to play on the lawn (she doesn't dig) but I can't figure out what seed to do with my lawn.. +Do I rip it all out and start over or over seed it?
My kbg gets thin in autumn winter and very slow to fill in come spring would it be a good idea to overseed with dwarf rye as I like to mow at 1/2” Summer 1” winter, we have mild wet winter’s here in uk
Any advice for Bermuda grass encroaching on my tall fescue? My turf was going so well and then this Bermuda has been a nightmare. How to integrate with overseeding/fertilizing?
I can’t tell if the SeedSuperstore has discontinued SS9000 or not. No Perennial Rye on their site right now at all. Would your Rye mix well with the SS9000?
Excited to see how the warm season grasses do. Several municipalities around me are banning ‘cold season grasses’ bc they think they ALL require more than ‘28” ‘ of water 💦 to survive. I might have to do some warm weather grass at some point. However, some of these new cold season grasses you have shown can survive on many inches less than that. Just hate that the people who know the least about specific areas are the ones making the decisions for all.
So I live in wisconsin and what that deep green grass. I want to overseed this fall.. what type of see mix you recommend? I like having my grass 2.5 to 3 in
Hi Ryan - I live in New Jersey. My front lawn is primarily CrabGrass. Should I use Tenacity on the CrabGrass to kill it? I would then Fertilize, Aerate and over seed. (i do have an irrigation system).
except in some northern climates you can have 100 degree /days/weeks right before the temperature crash which seems to make it impossible to get the window right
Ok moved to Kentucky 2 years ago. Been paying for lawn care and I have not been satisfied so I’m going to try doing my self. Looking for help I would like kinda like local not Florida lol.
Hey Ryan, Ryan here! Do you have any recommendations on battery backpack sprayer for home use? Not looking for anything crazy lol. Just started out this year putting some work in on the yard. No more that 3500sq ft
Do you recommend using a slit seeder or is a regular broadcast spreader fine for overseeding? I don’t have an irrigation system and I’m thinking a slit seeder will help keep seeds moist between periods of rain
In NE ohio.... we've had a mild August so my seed is going down this week. I'm currently pre-germinating that seed. Should see full 'pop' of the fescue 3 to 4 days after spreading it. I had good results during summer heat with pre-germinated seed so hoping for a successful fall seed...
@@zizou3550 right now I'm pre germinating a spreading variety of TTT fescue. Early summer I did pregerminate KBG but it was my last 5 pounds. It popped in 3 days, full germination in 5 to 6. That was with 80° temps. I'll be able to get more of the KBG in the spring and I'll definitely pre-germinate again. I put the seed in a paint strainer bag and place that in a 5gal bucket. I used the Milorganite web site article as a guide and ran a few tests. What I found was the soak durations were far to short. I went 10 days with the KBG and could have pushed that another day or 2. The fescue was soaked for 6 days and again I think another day or 2 was possible.
Looking forward to the fall season. Also very interested in the upcoming microclover ☘️ project. I have an area where grass does not want to grow and I’m considering microclover.
Great video! We will be installing sprinklers ourselves at our property this weekend and my parents place (2 houses down the street) as part of a huge lawn reno project at both places. We are looking to get the several bags of your rye grass down on the ground by next weekend (Up here in MA)
Hi Ryan. I have a Tall Fescue front lawn. Its was sodded two years ago when we moved in. I love the grass but it struggles in the heat (and this year we only had about 6 weeks of really hot weather). I was thinking about Aerating it this season and overseeing with perennial rye grass. How does rye grass do with hot weather. I live in New Jersey (zip code 08085). If rye is not a good choice, what would you recommend? Thanks. And I love watching the bardominium videos.
Fescue would actually be the best choice for your situation. I would say you probably want to see if there's anything you can do to improve the soil. Check out this video for more info - ruclips.net/video/khcjQvABIPI/видео.html

Is there a good pre emergent for fine fescue? I just did a full lawn renovation this weekend with super seed store SS6000. It's mostly a fine fescue mix with kbg. From what I've read tenacity can be rough on fine fescues
Great content as always Ryan. Appreciate everything you bring to us and how you've helped my yard look over the past couple years! I'm planning some renovation this season on a small portion of my lawn that didn't make it through the summer and was wondering what the product is that you use to kill the 4 plots? I live in CA (the part that gets 110 degrees in the summer and 30 degrees in the winter) so not everything is always legal and I just want to make sure I'm approaching this reno the right way!
For my fall fertilizer applications, approx how much nitrogen should I be applying? I was planning on putting down two applications of 0.75lbs/1000sq ft. Is that more or less than you recommend?
It's as if you've read my mind and answered all my current reseeding questions. I'm located in Eastern Nebraska, with a first season lawn of Perennial Rye and KBG mix. Been watching the channel for a couple years now. Thank you for the excellent content.
Looking good Ryan. I would recommend going above ground on the irrigation it will be easier on maintenance and leave you to focus on the product. I would also consider doing some type of edging to minimize your ongoing edging work. Just some thoughts the Barndo is looking good too.
Have you thought about using the stick edger then going through with a cultivar to remove the excess grass which should level it to the same height at the rest?
Using tips from your videos helped a lot with my total renovation project ( backyard only). It looks awesome. I'm amazed at how thick it got once it took off. I used a push mower the first 3 mows then 3 times a week with my normal mower and now down to 1. Next season the front will be a breeze now that i know what im doing thanks to you. Oh yeah and my dog Gnarly thanks you too. Even though he gets limited play time on it at the moment.
Nice information just what I needed to hear. I do have a question I just put down some Bio Advance for fungus today. How long should I wait before seeding? I'm in Va and will be seeding with MVS tttf. Thank you much.
Rain bird makes a quick disconnect in ground irrigation system that could be plumed in permanent at a later date. That could be something you look into.

The question I have is does a pre-emergent to prevent poaanna also prevent the new grass seed from germinating?

Did you say it was a little sandy soil in them pods? How well does cool season grass grow in sandy soil?
Just fine if you manage it that way. Lighter fertilizer apps more often and more frequent watering
Are the reel mowed plots smooth enough without leveling first?
