    I read an ama from like 2002 that banachek did and one of the things he brought up his its all about the performance. Once you learn how it’s done you realize even something as little as saying “i have dvds on how to do it...you need to know where to find them” is part of the trick. It leads you to believing there is something deeper here. He has truly mastered the art.

    • @sfdntk
      @sfdntk 10 месяцев назад

      I mean, he literally does have DVDs that explain his metal bending effects, and you do literally need to know where to find them in order to buy them, that's not a lie nor is it a trick. And there IS something deeper here, the forks are indeed completely real and legitimate common forks that you can buy anywhere, but that doesn't mean the ones he's using in the clip are identical to the exact same type of fork that's fresh and straight out of a brand new packet.
      Unless you mean he's saying that as a convincer, to bolster the claim that the forks are real, which is true.

    Joe is being the magic community's equivalent of a heckler.
    Before I started doing magic I thought the "never tell secrets" thing was not a big deal... but its because people loose respect for you if you reveal tricks. Trust me im basing this off my experience. If you keep it a secret people will stay fascinated with you trying to crack the codes of your tricks or just be in genuine amazement. They will have more of a social and intellectual value of you. Either way its better than dealing with a little brat (metaphorically speaking or literal) who will give you the "NEXT" kind of bored and unappreciative attitude like a spoiled child. Its ironic how human nature can have such a thin line between the extremes.
    You have worked very hard over some tricks (hours and hours months and months years and years) you should naturally be reserved with the revelation of your tricks to anybody.

      Your right bro, I've been playing guitar for years, if someone seen the countless hours of running through scales, they wouldn't be as impressed, previous room mates have said "Why do play this and that over and over again", because...if I didn't, I would suck, like you. People don't know their ass from their belly button. Never let them in on your creative process. hahaha smh

      It's what happens whenever his ego or his pointed skepticism is challenged to take a backseat. In the position where he's told "I can't tell you how I'm about to do this" Rogan's natural response is being on the cognitive offense. All that's required from Rogan is that he be in the dark, and appreciate the craft. Not surprisingly, this makes him subconsciously uncomfortable (as someone who interviews and digs into people for a living) so all he can do is keep interjecting and kee[ blindly debunking to overcompensate and hopefully hit a nail in the dark, which would be a nice ego boost too.

    Joe! He bent the fork he didn't hand to you while he was handing you the fork you were holding. That's why he didn't give it back to you when you asked for it; it was already bent. He then holds the fork in his hand in a way it still looks straight. His hand is shaking because he is slowly revealing the pre existing bend he put in that fork while he was passing the other one!!! It's looks seemless but I assure you as he passed the fork to you, he bent the other fork with his hand against the table.

    NO SPECIAL METALS OR UTENSILS. You slightly pre-bend the utensil many times back and forth, to weaken it, so that it looks solid to the eye but is ready to bend or break easily. That's where the "slight of hand" comes into play, making sure the audience gets the non-pre-bent fork. That's why he was very hesitant to switch forks when Joe asked. Also, the fact that the audience doesn't know it's pre-bent, or where the weak point is, it's unlikely they'll know how and where to apply pressure, leaving it safe to be examined.

      I believe there's a transfer paper in his pocket so he can write to the paper through his pants. Then take it out of his pocket and pass it to the spectator for the reveal, or like the one I saw, make it look like it was in your wallet the whole time.

    • @lurchlogan

      Also, at 5:23 he reaches over to grab the wallet with his left hand, the wallet was on his right, it would've been easier to grab it with his right hand but he had the piece of paper in his right hand. • @slipp3ryslop3
    @slipp3ryslop3 6 лет назад +31

    Joe called him on the first nail. You can watch it bend exactly at the tip of his thumbnail, and when Joe calls it out he takes the nail and says “Nahhh that’s-it’s-uhh...yeah, but I was holding it at the very end” and holds wayyyy farther down than he had been.
    Instead of replicating the stunt, the guy moves to forks and tells Joe to pick one. After Joe picks he sets down one of the remaining two and immediately bends a prong on the fork he’s still holding. As he’s bending, Joe asks to trade forks and the guy gets visibly annoyed.
    He rushes into the “trick” so as not to have to reveal the already bent prong, but if you pause the video as soon as he holds it up you can see it is bent before he starts shaking it.
    Anyway, for everyone mad at Rogan for calling out this guy’s trickery, whether it’s the guy’s job or not, you have to wonder what the guy was expecting would happen when he did some tricks in front of Joe.
    The tendency to cling to supernatural belief and to suspend scrutiny in the face of something you want to believe is true is a patently human error, and one Joe has begun to focus a lot of his time on helping to correct. This tendency within us is what spawned religion and what drives fanaticism in all forms. It is a dangerous practice to be in, even regarding entertainment. You should always scrutinize, always be slow to be convinced that something unnatural has occurred.
    You can still enjoy the show while applying such scrutiny, but all I see in the comments are all the cry-babies upset that Joe ruined their fantasy.

    • @slipp3ryslop3
      @slipp3ryslop3 6 лет назад +6

      Lmao it gets even worse. “You just shoved it in there” 😂😂
      He pulled the twisted fork out of a pocket or sleeve btw and covered the handle, then slowly pushed it upward through his fingers resulting in an observed rotation due to the pre-twisted fork.
      Also notice how any time he’s doing something important with his hands they keep the cameras on their faces...if they wanted to really out this guy they would have kept it on the shot from Jamie’s perspective more of the time. So stop shitting on Joe because they could have done him a lot dirtier, especially considering what this guy’s skillset really represents. He gets paid to fool people. If you want to be fooled, fine...but it’s your right to know you’re being fooled, and how. You can choose to exercise that right or not. We do not owe magicians/mentalists some sort of debt of gullibility.

      King 😂😂 The point isn’t to prove it’s not real, the point is to train yourself to recognize how your brain is being fooled. Even if you can’t figure out exactly how a trick is performed, learning to recognize the tells of deception will help you to recognize when you are being fooled outside of an obvious performance.
      This guy is easy because he does actually seem rather honest for a professional trickster. He has no skill at being convincingly deceptive once he is called on something. He stumbles over his words, blinks uncontrollably, flicks his eyes to the right, etc. That is a good thing, in my opinion, but limits his options as a performer. He seems to be doing fine that way though and it probably gives him a clearer conscience than other tricksters.
      Tanis Teau - I think it’s cool, too! Even though we can figure out what he’s doing most of us wouldn’t be able to see the switches he makes, let alone do them ourselves. This guy has developed an intriguing talent, but at the end of the day if you continue to allow yourself to be fooled by it even for the purposes of entertainment you are training your mind to be fooled in areas where it might actually matter.

    Thanks to the ability to rewatch these tricks, you can see that jow was right about the nail. it was pre-bent, and he just rotated it until the bend was visible. The fork with a bent tine he bent while holding the tines right in front of Joe's face, then he takes it out of his hand shaking it so you don't notice the tine was bent. He's very truthful in saying it was slight of hand, and he's bending them right there in front of Joe. Joe is guessing it right, but Banachek isn't going to give the secrets up right there. These tricks are child’s play wtf. One watch through and you can see how everything is done. He offers Joe two forks then just swaps the fork he is holding with another one while Joe is looking at his fork. You can see the prong is already bent when he first picks it up and he just shows it to Joe vertically so it is hard to see and makes sure he is constantly shaking it so you cant see. Same thing with the nail. It’s bent when he picks it up then he simply holds it at an angle where it appears straight and spins it slowly to make the illusion that it is bending. The fork that he bends in Joe’s hands is already pre-softened by bending it back and forth. Now all he has to do is apply some pressure and it bends. He quickly makes sure to break it before allowing Joe to look at it. The twisted fork is the same, he just spins it in his hand to make it look like its twisting. The card trick is a gimped deck with multiple repeats of the same cards. There are only hearts or spades and asking each of them whether it is a high or low card is enough to determine which card it is out of only 3 choices. He banks on the fact that you’ll be so pre-occupied with choosing a card that when he briefly flips them up you wont notice what he’s actually showing you. Jamie almost notices and hes the one having the trick done on him.
