This is one of my favorite stories I've ever heard from anyone. The idea of a kid taking his life into his own hands, and becoming the absolute BEST at something as wild as dice throwing, in order to support himself and his Ma, is amazing. It's just cool, it inspires me to practice hard at anything I want to be good at. I hate being bad at things I like, e.g. sports, video games, puzzles etc. I hate the feeling of doing poorly, feeling inadequate, but the truth is, if I really wanted to I could be good at anything, and so could ANYONE here in this comment section, all it takes is time. Put the time in and you'll be amazing. There is no barrier, there is nothing holding us back but our own mind and willpower, it's so refreshing to feel like you can take it into your own hands. I know it seems like common sense but when your a guy who used to suffer from depression, the world can seem so unreachable, even if it's an arms reach away.......Marcus Aurelius once said something to the effect of, "We must be active in our own rescue...", that's what the kid in the story did, he rescued himself with time and repetition. Also, it's cool the mystique about the kid actually being David himself, real cool Magician-type mystery.
I thought I had no rhythm so I taught myself how to dance kinda, from there I started learning simple drum patterns then progressively harder, I then wanted to try my hands at piano but finger dexterity was awful and my left hand does what it wants A year later I’m pretty solid on the piano and and do some pretty complex rhythms as well As you said you just have to try and practice. I say the same about people who say they can’t cook, people seem to assume that chefs just understand all recipes and flavours etc… read recipes and practice that’s all it takes, any one can cook
Love this comment, as someone who suffers from depression it truly does feel sometimes and everything is unreachable. I often feel inadequate as well and strive to succeed when i fail, i set high standards for myself and try my best to reach them. i love this story as well as i admire everyone with sheer willpower and dedication to a craft. my dream in life is to be a master at something, to be skilled and specialized in a specific domain like none else ever has. the thought of being inhumanely proficient at something is such a fantasy of mine. some that i am striving for currently are at a video game called Valorant, science, and my artistic vision and ability to convey my imagination into visual works. for college im still debating whether i should pursue my passion in film or my interest in aerospace engineering. i believe that ambition truly drives this world:)

It’s interesting watching the podcast knowing Blaine has certain stories ready that will lead to his magic trick that he’s already planned but making it seem like he’s just spontaneously doing the trick
Oh, he can take himself annoyingly seriously at times. That's part of his persona. He's one of those magicians that really wants people to think they have real powers.
I came to know about both of them in the early 2000s shows, then forgotten them in early - mid 2010s and now they sit here together , circle of life is complete
That's what he get's paid to do. Nothing he says is by accident and everything he says is on purpose and whenever he says, he's not lying, he is. Magic 101.
At 21:20 on the podcast David starts to talk about how Bill the incredible cardsmen said he showed me when I was young quietly which gave away David's story about a single mom and her son moving to Las Vegas to meet the best cardsmen the boy could and I'm assuming the story is about himself !!!!!
So this guy really tells a story about a mystery person who masters dice 15 hours a day and wins a million dollars. Then tells a story about winning 10s of thousands of dollars for multiple people with “luck” then pulls out a since die and guesses joe rogans roll twice. Something smells fishy here
That's what magicians do. Tell a story, set up the mythology and create moments. He's been doing it for 20+ years, I don't think he can help himself lol
I met this guy when I worked security at the liberty science center where he had to perform...him and his beautiful wife were very nice people and humble.
@@frankie8387 He's referring to his daughter's mom and if seen together she will always be considered as a "wife" even though they're not married. AND why dafuq does it matter anyway?
The whole story about the kid is what made the dice trick so cool. If out of no where, he was like, _"Hey do you wanna see a cool dice trick?"_ ... it would be like _WTF?_ The story telling, the way he sprinkles in his own human vulnerabilities, and the way he cleverly takes his time to set up his tricks is a lot of the magic in his craft. It's not just about a 30 second trick. Blaine really nails down the psychology that makes these tricks more astonishing to the audience... rather than just rushing it through.
Haha ya I always just assumed he smokes weed allday and that's just his normal personality at this point. I honestly dont kno for sure or do I care enough to follow his career enough to know more about him. If anyone knows for sure let me kno!
David is a great story teller he doesn't just perform tricks He design his performances in a way that people may think that "It could be real" and it's not just a trick perform That's what makes him great
He tells stories like he’s setting up one of his tricks. He kept saying “I don’t know if I should say this...” to get the audience’s attention. He knew he would was going to tell that story before he even sat down.
@@antoniobrown824 Exactly this, he's a master at it. I found it interesting to watch/listen to him practice his craft. The entire dice story was him setting up his trick. They sort of touch on the psychology earlier in the podcast. To add to that, if anyone here has played craps and specifically the fire bet, no pit boss or dealer would ever have to tell the table the fire bet had just hit. I've been at a table where it hit, the last point was 12, we all knew it and when it hit, you'd have thought we would have shook the building down. The entire casino literally stopped to look at us going bonkers.
My thoughts exactly, makes you think that listening to a dice 15 hours a day landing on a different number would make a different note, who knows though.
@@sumting_wong_witya1029 You are the closest. I own this trick I know how it's done. It's hard for me to pin down the exact pattern that hes doing because of the edits. I'm also guessing that he has a different version of the trick I have or he has some extremely good slight of hand and angle awareness.

David Blaine: "Listen to this amazing story of this kid and how he learned to throw dice and goes around the world winning at craps". Joe Rogan: "My friend Dana White is good at blackjack".
Part of Blaine's performance here is his casualness. He stutters and acts conversational since he's on a podcast.. but that's part of the illusion of it all. He's one of the best magicians in the world because of how incredible of an actor he is. All that being said, how the FUCK did he know what the die was? My personal theory is that there is a transmitter in the die that signals to him what the number facing up is. I think Blaine knows enough about dice to know what numbers are facing outward and was improvisationally adept enough to connect the five to his story earlier..

I thought I had no rhythm so I taught myself how to dance kinda, from there I started learning simple drum patterns then progressively harder, I then wanted to try my hands at piano but finger dexterity was awful and my left hand does what it wants
A year later I’m pretty solid on the piano and and do some pretty complex rhythms as well
As you said you just have to try and practice.
I say the same about people who say they can’t cook, people seem to assume that chefs just understand all recipes and flavours etc… read recipes and practice that’s all it takes, any one can cook
The story was probably fake

Ahh the old “I just happen to have some dice in my pocket” trick
I’d like to see him do the same thing with a random dice joe had
Well he did keep telling him it was basically weighted
This wasnt magic, this was "luck"...
Labour Under Correct Knowledge.
Joe called him out on it saying that carrying dice gives him the chance to develop "a touch", and oddly enough, this clip starts with Joe talking about the mind moving the body and doing things over and over again... Good job Jamie 😂
still makes no sense how he could know what two numbers it fell on, right?

@@danielle5390 ??????????
Haha did David Blaine impregnate your wife or what? Bizarre comment.
Divorce.
It’s interesting watching the podcast knowing Blaine has certain stories ready that will lead to his magic trick that he’s already planned but making it seem like he’s just spontaneously doing the trick
Joe: "So that was luck"
Joes mind: BS
7:18 😂
I love how David is jovial and kinda goofs around, he could totally take himself too seriously if he wanted to. Good to see.
What's up Mike, you're one of my favorite guitar players
Oh shit Kinda crazy seeing Mike here lmao Cheers Mike thanks for all the different things you've taught me
I thought the exact same, magicians have this tendency to be condescending and pompous. Blaine actually seem extremely humble
I used to not like his essentricity but seeing clips of him like his over the last few years, he's totally a cool dude lol.
Oh, he can take himself annoyingly seriously at times. That's part of his persona. He's one of those magicians that really wants people to think they have real powers.
I love the dynamic between Joe trying to constantly get to the truth and David constantly trying to keep it skewed lol
I came to know about both of them in the early 2000s shows, then forgotten them in early - mid 2010s and now they sit here together , circle of life is complete
It wouldn't surprise me if he pulled an ostrich out of his pocket.
He's like a Matrix agent.
Lol!
I feel like david blaine "forced" the conversation in the direction he wanted it to go without joe realizing it. F'n magicians haha
Thats called mentalism bro, correct
That's what he get's paid to do. Nothing he says is by accident and everything he says is on purpose and whenever he says, he's not lying, he is. Magic 101.
Joe’s ok with it.
That's why Joe seemed defensive the whole pod and seemed to rush certain subjects. He's probably aware of how these dudes do their thing.
He also forced the number 5 but I have no idea how he got the 4 the first time around...
I love how David developed and now talks and takes initiative in conversations, this took a long time lmao
Plot Twist: David was the 12 year old visiting his future self by wait for it....Magic
Something smells fishy here
hahahahaha yeah I felt strong hints was all he could give without being legaly liable
That's magician's for you
I don’t think it was about him, I just think it inspired him to get better at dice & things people think are impossible to master
Before he told the story he did say he couldn’t go into much detail
Thats his whole thing though. He misleads you and then surprises you.He makes you think he doesn't know, but he does know, or does he?
David Blaine is the ultimate hustler, randomly pulls out dice and shows joe what’s up while making it seem like oh wow that’s so lucky
@Han Lockhart A magician
That's what magicians do. Tell a story, set up the mythology and create moments. He's been doing it for 20+ years, I don't think he can help himself lol
This is the quietest Rogan has been in any interview by just listening....BEAUTIFUL!
I’ve never seen David Blaine talk with this much enthusiasm before 😂
I met this guy when I worked security at the liberty science center where he had to perform...him and his beautiful wife were very nice people and humble.

Well, I know I didn't ask. Anyone else ask him??
Blaine's best magic trick is making a 30 second story expand to over 5 minutes
No, that was a 5 minute story, which would have been ruined if told in 30 seconds by someone who can't tell a story.
I know a bunch of content creators that are good at that lol
Nope
Haha ya I always just assumed he smokes weed allday and that's just his normal personality at this point. I honestly dont kno for sure or do I care enough to follow his career enough to know more about him. If anyone knows for sure let me kno!
David is the first magician that made me feel like maybe he actually had some kind of magic, or was not an average normal human.

David is a great story teller he doesn't just perform tricks
He design his performances in a way that people may think that "It could be real" and it's not just a trick perform
That's what makes him great
His stories blow tho.... "I met guy, things happened, watch me wiggle thing, story almost done, correct wiggling....magic"
bullsi20 😂😂
He has never formed a trick with a story. His on screen presentation is awful... stares, breaths slow; are you ready for magic ?

He’s really such a different person when he drops the magician act. Way more personable and smiley.
Stumped - Did you miss the bit where he did a magic trick? After telling a story that perfectly set up the magic trick...
My guess is it's a special die that makes a different sound for each surface when it's hit against a table.
My thoughts exactly, makes you think that listening to a dice 15 hours a day landing on a different number would make a different note, who knows though.
his ring controls the dice like lock numbers you can see him scrolling or tapping at 8:55 to change it from the 4 before to 5
probably some electronic thingy which can change the dots
@@sumting_wong_witya1029 You are the closest. I own this trick I know how it's done. It's hard for me to pin down the exact pattern that hes doing because of the edits. I picked up something on the first roll but the second roll is throwing me off. I'm also guessing that he has a different version of the trick I have or he has some extremely good slight of hand and angle awareness.
When David says "Yeah, but Im terrible at it."

“Get that voodoo away from man !” Lmao
Part of Blaine's performance here is his casualness. He stutters and acts conversational since he's on a podcast.. but that's part of the illusion of it all. He's one of the best magicians in the world because of how incredible of an actor he is. All that being said, how the FUCK did he know what the die was? My personal theory is that there is a transmitter in the die that signals to him what the number facing up is. I think Blaine knows enough about dice to know what numbers are facing outward and was improvisationally adept enough to connect the five to his story earlier..
Perfect explanation, thank you! Even after you explained, still amazed at how good DB's performance is
