At 3:20, if you slow it slow it down to .25x, you realise that you have no idea how he did it.
Its actually a special deck of cards not a real deck
Nick B A special deck that makes crinkled cards you mark with your name appear at the top?
When he flips it back over he pushes it out and drops another card on top of it, that’s why he’s holding it face up so you don’t see the other card, and that’s the one that he puts In the middle of the deck so the ace is always on top, but in this case he dropped two cards on top of it so he can get that effect with the crimped card after, notice when he reveals it he’s holding it as one card when it’s actually two, I’ve done this trick before it’s actually really easy, he’s not lying when he says that they are simple tricks as a lot of David blaines tricks are actually really simple and easy to do, it’s actually dumbfounding when you realize how easy some of them are especially the ones with the best reactions.
actually he carefully bent two cards, yif you pause and go frame by frame you can se how his fingers hold the bent cards so you never see that there are two. he puts his fingers abobe the bent so it doesnt pop up, ant then he take the upper bent card that is not andys one. and place it on the deck. the second card he bent is always up but he keeps his finger abobe. then when he snaps he release his thumb and the card pop up. you need to spend days training that.
@@claudiurogojan7114 yes! he bent two cards at once.

That's what u call "A magician and comedian crossover"
David Blaine is an absolute master of presentation. Clearly he has refined his craft to such a high level. Damn near a cultural icon.

David's thing, besides being very good, was his chill and spooky persona. he made people feel afraid seeing card tricks. nice
Unlike most magicians, David actually has a genuine character.
He is the best
Honestly a lot of card magicians do
He’s not the best magician out there but your right there’s something about his character that draws people in
Then why doesn't he show it?

What does it mean?
He's saying he really is the devil
He’s saying he prayed to the devil to get his job (be a talk show host). He realises David is the devil and he prayed to him.
I loved how Conan slipped in "I prayed to you to get this job remember?" and then let out the chuckle when a couple of people finally registered the joke in the audience.

That was a good line 😂
People do
When he flicks through the deck quickly for Andy and the audience to choose a card the only card you can see for long enough is the Ace of Diamonds. Try it! I went back several times and that is the only one your eyes can distinctly identify. He is so incredibly good with his hands that he allows the Ace of Diamonds to linger just a bit longer than all the rest. He’s incredible!
If you play it at 0.25x, you'll see that he uses the ace of hearts to prepare the audience for the ace of diamonds. He also used the 9 hearts to prime the audience to recognize a red card. It's genius.

I didn't like David Blaine that much when he first came on the scene, but lately while watching all of his stuff, he does things that are closer to sorcerer type shit than magician type stuff.. He is amazing. He's always carried himself in a nonchalant sort of way, but he's still around. Much longer than most others have lasted.
He's really good but he does cheat sometimes. Look it up. He fakes some of his bigger stunts. Not all of them but some of them.
@@michialphelps2339 yeah, but then he doesn't fake other ones, like stabbing his hand or arm with a metal rod, or keeping frogs or fish in his stomach for an entire set where people say an animal and he pukes up that animal on command. The dude is ridiculous and you just don't know what's real and what's not with him. That's probably part of his allure and why he's been around for so long.
Many magicians sold their soul for gifts of magick. Look at all the old posters with demons and devils on them.

We all see Ace of Diamonds. Most people remember the last one and he moved it so quickly but little pause in the end so the only one you can probably remember is Ace of Diamonds. This is the trick and he perfected it. 👏👏👏
Yeah that was cool lol. Messing with our brains
The fact that he does this with modern cameras zoomed in; (& you can rewatch in slow motion) puts him levels above what people were doing back in the day
His tricks weren’t anything special, or new for that matter, that put him above other magicians, even by the standards of back In the day. His success was largely due to how he carried out his persona and how he marketed and documented himself as a street magician, that in itself was something no other magician was doing at the time.
@@Mr.Soul99 His sleight of hand is pretty smooth though
I can’t believe how amazing his sleight of hand movements are. Unbelievable lol

That's his greatest trick. After his magic fame, he created an alter-ego and became a successful dead-pan comedian/actress called Aubrey Plaza.
I've seen other magicians do similar tricks and they explained how they do it. But watching David do these, even over and over again and in slow motion, you just can't see anything. It's flawless. His sleight of hand is unreal. Even if you slow down the speed to .25x, you still can’t see him switch the aces with the queens on the second last trick.
@Colton Musselman after showing Conan the Ace, he puts it back into the deck. He didn’t switch after that?
@Colton Musselman wowww makes sense, thank you!

7:23 This is amazing how he changed the cards so quickly. You can see the deck split and the 7 of spades appears in the middle in a blink of an eye
At 7:15 you can see Andy written on ace of diamonds already slow it down
Wrong it's one of the ambitious card routine. It's like a magicians force card. You prepare the ace of diamonds just above the 7 of spades then riffle it until the ace of diamond is the most prominent one. Of course it's the last top part of the deck. Double lift the cards so the 7 of spades will be shown and put it back face down then hand over the top card which is the ace of diamond.

David Blaine is a genius in the Sports Cards game.
Whenever he says "wait wait, watch", I always make sure to watch.
School system trained their puppets well.
i figured out the push of the ace of diamonds with conan. if you watch it multiple times you'll realize, near the end of the deck, he placed the signed eight of diamonds. i think he practiced the feel to stutter his flick of the top of the deck so the ace of diamonds shows a bit longer, and combined with the end a split second movement it pushes ace of diamonds on you. if you watch the flick multiple times you'll realize that your brain tries to read every card it sees in the flick, but its so fast you immediately forget the previous number to remember the next. having the ace at the end of the deck, and saying what he did before the flick to manipulate your way of thinking, culminates in i think a near 100% result of people seeing ace of diamonds. all the people watching at home paying attention probably saw ace of diamonds too, and it blew there minds guaranteed. its genius. I'm sure all of his acts are full of this level of thought and practice, but fuck me id love to know how he does all of it.
i looked closely again and i figured out the trick at 3:32 , he actually folds 2 cards, not only andy's card but also the card above it, so when he flips the cards, andy's card became the second card so he actually placed the 1st card in the middle of the deck and andy's card remained at the top.

He somehow slid that crimped card back onto the top and held down the bend ever so slightly by the side with his thumb and released it simultaneously with the snap, giving the illusion of it "popping" to the top as the bend reforms while his thumb casually adjusts to pressing the new top card.
Close, it never left the top. He was holding two cards when he did the bend. The second bent card was placed into the middle, leaving the Andy card on top. Concealed and revealed with his thumb, like you said.
@@GoggledAgog Yeah that makes complete sense, you can see him actually place the card into the middle and not take it out, so that had me stumped. Nice.
@@GoggledAgog oh nice! How do the others work?
@@Klautsche For the first one, he does a classic pass, (a move that secretly cuts the deck), or the herman pass, in a way where he brings up the selected card inbetween two 4 of spades, he then does a move called a double lift, flipping over 2 cards at once, which gives the illusion the selected cards on the top, (its not), he then gives Conan the "selected card", really one of the duplicate 4 of spades, and does another double lift, making it seem as if he has the 4 of spades on top, (but the selected card is) magically, the cards "switch". For the next trick he does a move called the marlo tilt, making it seem as if hes putting the deck into the middle of the deck but really its being placed second from the top. He does another double lift, making it seem as if the second from the top card, (the selected card was) on the top. After that he bends both cards, (it looks like one), and the other guy already explained it. @@kulserz6747 makes sense! Thanks :D
Much respect for David Blaine
its a mix between trick decks and just insanely quick hands and misdirection its pretty amazing takes a ton of skill to do what hes doing without anyone seeing it. the crimped card for example.. he actually crimps 2 cards and slides the correct one to the top while holding it flat and sandwiching the others and when he snaps his fingers he just eases his grip and the top crimped hard pops up lol
hes essentially combining a lot of basic card tricks together, masterfully, his sleight of hand saves him. but if you know anything about magic, early in the clip he is nervous and actually flashes his sleight of hand. big stage but he pulled it off
IE: early on youcan see him low key trying to do a "2 card pick" which is what he bases a lot of his tricks on. hes picking 2 cards off the top and bending them strategically. (top card he shows then turns over to its backside) next he shows you the actual top card, hes lining up 2 cards basically. other parts of the trick are smoke and mirrors which he alternates
It's frustrating that I do magic and know what he's doing but there isn't a chance in hell that I could ever do that.

TRICK REVEAL OF THE TRICK WITH ANDY at 2:26 (watch 0.25 speed)
2:31
Andy draws his card.
2:35
Andy puts his card on the deck. Andy's card is now stuck with the back side on the lower card, which has a backside printed on both sides (or David uses just a flipped card with a non flipped card between it and Andy' Card, but for the easier explanation of the trick mechanism here I use the method of a double backside printed card). David now takes Andy's card with the double backside card sticking to the back of Andy's card from the deck and shows it to the audience.

David now has only the double backside card in his hand and puts it into the middle of the deck.
2:58
David now reveals Andy's card, which is sticking to the top card of the deck, and reveals both cards under the impression that it is one card. First trick succeeded.
3:01
David puts Andy's card back on the deck with the other card stuck to the back of Andy's card.
3:03
David now takes only the card sticking to the back of Andy's card from the deck. So Andy's card is now the top card of the deck.
