I REMEMBER THIS!!! Before this bit, Dole was giving Conan one of the meanest, funniest, George W Bush BASHING interviews I've ever seen! I remember Conan saying to Bob D "this interview is going so different from what I was expecting". I gotta find it and see it again now!

I didn’t know David was already famous in 97. I only started watching him in the early 2000s
He had some dumb special on like NBC that showed him floating in the air, but it was just camera tricks
It's amazing to see his growth in 26+ years. He looked nervous and kind of stiff with his sleight of hand stuff, compared to now where he's so confident and fluid. All these years have refined him to be one of the best magicians and entertainers in history.
Conan: "This is the tip of the iceberg"

David literally pointed at the card he wanted conan to pick
It would’ve been funny if the force failed (as they sometime do) and he was forced to improvise, leaving a card permanently in Conan’s suit jacket for the rest of time

IT'S MY ILLUSION
This one is pretty easy, they had someone on his team put the card in his jacket before the show. While asking him to pick one he literally forced him to pick the one he wanted. They never signed the card so the pocket one is different deck from the one Conan picked. When he was handing the “5” cards he only gave 4 and he put his hand on the remaining deck which is on the table. He puts that extra card in middle of the deck, you can see the deck is moved after he touches it. Rest is just illusion of shuffling sideways showing it’s 5 cards instead it was always 4 when he gave it to him. He has come long way since this trick.

He blatantly showed Conan his card Conan then named on the pile on the table, not the pile in his hand. There's 2 of the same card. A child could figure this out.

The card was sewn into the jacket in advance. The card conan picked was a force, and the deck probably had a bunch of that card also. When he counted out the 5 cards he counted one of them twice. David Blaine had some good tricks, this was not one of them.
He's much better now
