Good thing about melonDS is, you dont have to worry about audio crackling like DesMuMe, and also Portrait of Ruin animated shorts during the main menu is in sync with the audio!
Great run, and great rando. But real talk tho, I genuinely hope your vision problems don't hinder you too much. Please take care of yourself; you are both a massive boone and a huge inspiration for this community. Please take care of yourself, homie :( You single-handedly brought me back to Castlevania, and I would be devastated if you stopped because of that. I wish you the best 💘
At this point the only games I use the upsvaling for are 3Ds ones, theres just some charm to the jagged lines of DS games and the sprites just look great when you notice how smooth the animations could br in what was essentially a very weak system when even nowdays some games can barely run past 30 frames
A 3D remake that returns to the non-anime cringe art style and makes the game actually difficult would've been perfection, we dont need more inferior 2D games, leave that crap in the past
@@wallacesousuke1433 Now, now, we could get a Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night kind of game but with Castlevania characters and storyline, but there is still a place for 2D, calling them inferior might not be the best call. I personally think Dawn of Sorrow looks great, although Aria of Sorrow artstyle could have sold me much better. The one downside may be the reusing of a lot of things, like SotN enemies or even Rondo of Blood enemies. Not exactly fitting for the artstyle they went for with the characters and new enemies, they stand out a little.
*sigh* God as someone who has been playing dawn with hd overhaul and no touch screen... HOLY CRAP THIS WAS long overdue this game is absolutely GORGEOUS with the hd modifications
I know DS emulators had an issue with the Alpha in Dawn, but the bats acting like that is curious. Did they just straight up code each bat to have their alpha on/off to make the shapes? First I thought it was a alpha shape but their wings aren't cut off. That's crazy. Matches with why the platforms are seen, I guess the emulator forces the alpha channel/transparency on to fix the issues with the village. Congrats on the PB Jup. You're still the GOAT
You're not wrong that the key to making things happen in emulation is giving Pokemon fandom a reason to care! No other series' community comes even remotely close in size or enthusiasm. Back in September 2010, when Pokemon Black and White came out in Japan, everybody knew the English translation was coming soon. But the Pokemon community made a full translation of their own rather than just _wait six months._
Besides the awesome simple menus of MelonDS and resolution options.... the Online play ability with private servers and even play with actual hardware on those same private servers is what really sold me.
Ever tried doing a Devil boosted max distance dive kick on Gergoth from the very top of the arena after it breaks the floor? It'd be hilarious if it manages to shave the rest of it's health in one hit or something close. lol
Not quite sure if you take suggestions here or if you're open to them currently or if you've gotten this one already (apologies in advance), but I suggest you try out a new remake of CV1 called Castlevania ReVamped. It's a widescreen, QoL improved, Metroidvania-ified PC port of the original first game with upgraded NES visuals AND music. It's very good stuff, I hope you consider playing it!
Looks amazing! And great playthrough as always I tried to play Dawn of Sorrow on MelonDS but when I tried to import my save it said that it was corrupted and I'm too lazy to start from scratch again lmao Does anyone know how to fix that?
I watched this entire video on mobile wondering how its HD and how you thought the artifacting was worth it. Before I realised my mobile auto's to 480p
Let's see, cool DS games... Lock's Quest was an interesting one, a Tower Defense type game where you also played as the person that repaired the towers and helped fight the clockwork enemies by doing DS touchscreen microgames. Although I don't think I ever beat the game. I think though, the game actually had a remaster on Steam, so it's not really a melonDS HD specific relevant game. Edit: however, it seems that the PC port of the game has a lot of bugs and crashes, so it might just be better on the DS. The touchscreen controls might be rough if emulated, though, since they are pretty regularly used.
For the record, all the “overlay” effects seem kinda broken. At least last I saw, though seeing the ghost room they seem to be still broken. Bat company, Death’s robe in phase 2, and the ghost room. How they’re broken depends on the video backend you’re using, might be worth checking out lol. Also I’m kinda under the impression that the artifacts aren’t the fault of the emulator? I think the lines are actually always there, just in between the pixels so you never see them on hardware. It might be easier for romhackers to fix with a game patch than for MelonDS to implement a hack.
I see the souls and some effects are HD but the human and monsters are still in the same pixel (like each pixels are 4 times clearer but still look like one pixel) I was hoping to see HD Yoko booba
I want to say thank you so much I know it could sound weird or insulting but I have to say it I'm someone with great trouble sleeping Since a couple of months, I put videos in background, people building legos, spiffin' brit and you videos while I'm going to sleep It help me a lot, because you videos are long, I can go to sleep without questionning if I will fall before the end I just hope you don't take it bad, it's a sincer thank you
Gotta be honest with you. I don't see the difference. Then again, I have never cared about graphics. Never understood the people who need everything to run at 5000fps in 200K. This just looks like Dawn as usual, to me. Souls and some effects look a liiiittle smoother, but even softly implying I care about that small change is a waste of text lol
Spoilers...
It was in fact a PB! Previous best time was a mid-1:57, this was just a fantastic run.
baby seed
Uncommon Final Guard L, didn't guard well enough
Grats on the pb!
Honestly I completely forgot desmume existed since I switched to Melon so long ago, so it's weirdly nostalgic hearing that name again lol
Good thing about melonDS is, you dont have to worry about audio crackling like DesMuMe, and also Portrait of Ruin animated shorts during the main menu is in sync with the audio!
thank god for HDmitrii, truly the game is now saved

I don't normally pop off at a lot of things, but that Arc Demon made me absolutely cheer.
God I forgot how banger the DoS sountrack was. Really have to get back and play it again
i remember the dark room in eclesia working properly but the invisible man had a strange graphical quirk when i played on emulator
Buddy, I'm 15 feet away from the TV and it looks great
GG Jup. Amazing gameplay as always
Man, I would pay any price for a proper high resolution redraw of Dawn of Sorrow :C
Wait for Ai emulators maybe in 2 years.
@@DezorianGuyMaybe we don't even need AI.
@@SyRose901 Fidlesticks, that's crazy talk.

I couldnt honestly tell this is on HD. Then again, i havent played aria since forever.
Still happy I manifested that Talisman
This game was also the shit back then. Subbed
What a run, not having an actual DISASTER farm... AND in HD. GG
54:30 nice death health for death.
Waiting for JC to speedrun the best DS game: Radiant Historia
Megaman ZX would be cool

If you want another Metroidvania to play, try Monster Tale! It's got vibes of Metroid and Megaman Zero.
I would like to see Order in HD

Mmmmm crispy
It is actually FHD because there are two screens and FHD is two times HD.

I'm watching on 1080p on mobile and i still don't get it , what's a difference in HD mode ? Does resolution change graphics or makes it better ?
Is there any mod to play as bosses ? Like dmitrii or dario ?
1:04:31 The whole bit is superb. XD
what i dont like about melonds is not being able to tweak the graphics

Try the Tombstone farm with the Throwing Sickle or Boomerang.
HD? High Dracula? Who gave Vlad a Blunt?
HDPB? Like the real estate channel?
Tbh, IDK why Melon DS lags me, do you have a recomndation?

What were you hoping for, her model to have the OoE phase 2 dracula style...?
Apparently, someone doesn't know Manual... 😅😅😅
I can't tell the difference. Like, at all.
Well, whatever floats your boat.
Agreed
It's quite noticeable with rotating sprites, visual effects and the few things that are actually 3d
I feel sorry for you after making fun of you.......all the way up until you crack one of those deapan extremely sarcastic jokes of yours.
I can't honestly tell the difference.
Maybe a bit less pixelated?
I want to say thank you so much

Same. I just can't see anything that screams, "HD." Everything looks the same as it always has.
