I love how the game developers designed Venemoth to be the only Pokémon that has more type-changes than Castform. Like, it’s cool how they based Arceus off of this moth
I think Sludge Bomb was heavily underrated here. It's an easy trap to fall into because of the lack of Super-Effective coverage, but Poison does have pretty strong neutral coverage. Thanks to STAB it would have 135 BP before Janine, which beats out even Pink Bow + Return, and it hits everything you were attacking with Return/Swift for neutral damage. Add the 30% poison chance, and it's likely that it would've improved ranges on Pokémon like Umbreon and Arcanine, and probably done more damage than Psychic to Gyarados and Charizard. Great videos man! I've been watching for a fair while, but don't typically comment on stuff much. It has been great to see how much you've improved in terms of gameplay over the year, in ways I never would've even thought about myself. Here's to a wonderful 20231
I agree here. While special attack is higher than normal attack its still a 90 base power stab. It doesn't necessarily have to be used but Scott didn't even pick up the TM here. It could have been kept as an option.
You forget that Venomoth is a Grass/psychic type so there is no STAB from Sludge bomb. You'd be better off with return because of the obvious STAB bonus due to Venomoths Normal/Ghost typing.
Big Veno fan. I was going to write the same comment, so I'll just jump on the bandwagon here. I'll also add that the chance to poison probably won't interfere with Sleep Powder since you out-speed and put to sleep those most dangerous targets like Charizard before spamming damage anyway. Hopefully if/when Scott does a replay without evolution, he uses Sludge Bomb and gives Venomoth a fair shake. I think it'd at least be able to sneak into A tier.
As a matter of fact, you can even calculate easily if Sludge Bomb is better than Psychic. It is 1.5x stronger (the STAB-multiplier exactly), so if Venomoths SpAtk is less than 1.5x the Atk stat, Sludge Bomb is stronger. Only the opponents defensive stats have to be estimated then.
I’m amazed you got through that dangerous hiker in the middle of the elite four with your 4x weak normal/ice venomoth. Truly a grand performance. Happy New Year Scott! Manifesting a million subs this year for you 🙏
The "thanks" segment is great! Getting to know just how many folks are actually behind these videos, and behind so many more. I keep thinking of those on-screen and in-ear as the whole creators, but the nitty-gritty really is a group effort that deserves to be recognized! Bonus shout-out to Shawn... Sean? Cion.
Random thought: sludge bomb is neutrally effective against most pokemon you use return against. It will also do more damage. After STAB, it's 135 base power compared to 102 for return with perfect happiness. This might turn some 4 hits into 3 hits.
I'm always happy to see a venomoth playthrough. I'm glad it's become a bit of a mascot of the channel as well! It's a great pokemon that needs all the love it can get
A good way to enter 2023 for me! Really enjoyed watching the channel mascot power through Crystal! Also loved the nod to your team scott. Its always nice when they get the credit they deserve as it is a team that makes it possible so as said before thanks Shawn! You're a great video editor and you've been working hard. I know it is just a comment on a video but your work really does bring me some level of joy when I get to watch these videos. I hope you, Scott and the rest of the team have a happy new year and a prosperous 2023! :)
I have to say, I wasn't watching the playthrough up until clare, just listening. I have been a sub since back around 8k, and you're a good man. Great RUclipsr and all that, but you're a good man, you're humble, you take things seriously but not seriously enough to ruin what makes the things you do great. If you live the life not on screen the way you do on it for us, then I can imagine everyone in your life is incredibly proud of you, and I can bet the rest of us are too. You deserve your success and I hope this year only brings you much much more of it Scott!
Loved seeing this run with the amazing Bug/Virus Digimon! My favorite, and a great way to ens the year (or start the year since I'm watching it after midnight). Here's to a great 2023!
Hey, Scott! Thank you for such an amazing year of content! It has been absolutely exceptional and entertaining, so thanks for that. The fact you've uploaded so much and the production value is still great shows how much you love doing this. Here's to an amazingly strong 2023 set of videos!
Very true, when he said that there is someone extra special I was sure he would say his fiance but the credit went to Sean. Not that he doesn't deserve it, but still awkward..
Thank you for all your hard work, it's been a great year with all your fantastic videos! I'm super happy you popped up in my recommended earlier this year. Hope 2023 will be great for you and your loved ones ❤
Thank you Scott for acknowledging the amount of work your team puts in, really puts into context how difficult daily uploads must be, this is more than a hobby for you for sure.
It was a seriously challenge, even with Shawn and myself going all the time. Him 5-6 days a week and me 7 days a week. Others contributed of course!. I’m really grateful and inspired just how many people want to and do help with the creation process. Can’t wait to see what all the work builds up to over the next year!
Thank you, Shawn! It goes without saying that you, Scott, and the rest of the team also deserve thanks. I am a fairly new subscriber myself but I have been binging videos since I found them and I find myself entirely shocked how fast you spit out this content. It's really nice to have an average of 40ish minute videos I can throw on the side while I do other things and I am never worried if I am going to be running out of it any-time soon!
I recently used Venonat and Venomoth in a play through of LeafGreen, and I’ve grown very attached to it since. It also made me realize that Venomoth doesn’t have six insect legs, it has two clawed hands and no legs. That’s pretty neat for a psychic type with such naturally low attack!
It's cool to see a playthrough with Venomoth! It's my favourite fire/water type, though i did never understand why the types change so much between it and Venonat.
Thanks Shawn and everyone else who helps getting the videos made! But, of course, thanks to you as well, Scott, for all the effort you put into making these for our enjoyment!
Really great video! I actually really love Venonat and Venomoth a lot. I really started liking Venonat during a run of Soulsilver where I only used Pokemon that I got off of the Pokewalker, and since then it always was incredibly cute to me. Not to mention Venomoth starts getting extremely fun to use from Gen IV onward. Tinted Lens is awesome, Quiver Dance is awesome, Roost is awesome etc. So many amazing pick-ups. Since I'm also a Yugioh fan, I tend to like naming my Venomoth's PUV for "Perfectly Ultimate Venomoth". It not only sounds awesome but also is just a cool iconic old Yugioh card. One minor optimization thing that I'm honestly not really sure how much time it saves, but with Psychic and HP Ice, Sludge Bomb actually hits everything you want to hit with Return harder. It's not really that important and I think mostly it might make the 2HKO on Umbreon guaranteed with Poison Barb (or even PRZCUREBERRY) and maaaybe 3 hits the Snorlax? Honestly though its not a big deal but I thought I would mention it. You still did great. Thanks for the year of awesome and amazing content!
Guys, it's okay if Scott didn't calc Sludge Bomb correctly in this one, he already said he'll probably redo the run starting from Venomoth from the get-go. I'm sure he'll remember then considering the sheer amount of comments he got about it. Other than that... happy new year, Scott! Your consistency at content creation is a very admirable trait and I'm looking forward to watch even more from you!
Hey Scott, I have been bingeing your channel for about a month now and loving every bit of it. You put so much work and love into your process and you've got a great personality to boot! I just wanted to put a forgotten pokemon in your mind that I really loved as a kid but haven't seen since generation 3. Relicanth, the ancient fish pokemon, that non evolving ancient fish helped me absolutely dismantle pieces of the elite four along side the help of my trusty tropius and super cool shedinja. I imagine a solo challenge for it would be pretty good. If you want a nickname Relican is a classic, because of course it can.
The psychic flying joke never gets old. I can’t wait for you to do a play through of the original psychic flying with the Xatu line. It was always in my Crystal runs and it has a very special place in my heart since it reflects my Native American heritage! I’m not sure how Patreon works Scott, but I’ll try to support you there as soon as I can! Thank you Shawn!
Happy new year Scott and everyone reading this! I hope your year is filled with blessings. This was another fun run to watch, Venomoth did much better than i thought it would and I’m excited for your plans coming for this year! Let’s goooooo!
I'm glad to see Venomoth's first appearance in the card game has been honored through the ages. Ever the type shifting changeling, it seeks the lightest of LEMPS. Happy New Year Scott
Hey man i hope u have a great holiday season. One of the best things for me this year was discovering ur channel. Not only are ur videos great entertainment they also helped me rediscovering my passion for gaming, which was fading quickly since there are so many promblems irl. Can't wait to see u improve even more as the next year progresses.
Glad you found the channel! It means a lot to me that it helped you rediscover you passion for gaming. Irl can be so tough sometimes. Gaming has always helped me find joy in those times.
I'm looking forward to the emerald runs! You've inspired me to start playing them. I've already done Slaking (a beast), Medicham (also super good) and im in the middle of a forrestress run, which is a struggle because its gen 3 moveset is horrific T.T Can't wait to keep seeing it!
Thanks Shawn and everyone that helps this channel have this quality! You guys are awesome! Scott, thank you for the awesome content and you’re quite a charismatic person! Love the content and how upbeat your videos are. Also, make a Venomoth run that each fight is a different type… lol. I also still have doubts on which type it is. Venomoth, Armaldo, Lugia, Gligar and which other Pokémon have their type doesn’t match their sprite!?
Ah Venommoth, this mythic psudo-Legendary Steel/Dark/Bug/Dragon type, has always had a place in my heart. As a child I was scared to death of moths, but when playing blue, I found the little guy charming. Thanks for helping face my fears, you fairy/ghost/nuke type
I can't believe they made a Pokémon that adapts to battle like this. I mean, it changes its type to be whatever is least convenient to the player. Such a bold strategy
Hey Scott, the content your team produces is amazing! Thank you everyone! The subject of whether to evolve the pokemon naturally or not has been bugging me (no pun intended). I always thought the tier list should be starter pokemon as their time. Ie. Venomoth born, venomoth spot on the list. But if it was a venonat, it should be allowed to evolve. As a viewer, I've never enjoyed the runs where you had less options. While it's good background noise; the runs I'm most engaged in are the ones with many options. I enjoyed seeing how you had to hit an evolution breakpoint to beat Whitney. I just think the final time belongs to venonat, not venomoth. Keep up the good work!
Great job, one more time Scott! Congratulations for all your achievements this newly past year! About Venomont, its greatest obstacle is about its move pool, its coverage is not that good really! But I admit I always liked Venomont, but especially in gen 1! Not that much from generation 2 on... So, its results are understandable, given its poor move pool! Hey man, I wish you great successes this brand new year! I already said that but once again, your future is brilliant, you are talented, I'm your fan! Thank you so much for all the fun you have always given us, your fans! Bye!
If you had used Disable you could get free Tackles in the early section. Fascinating solo run, not all the way through yet I will edit it once done. Happy New Year Scott. THANKS SHAWN! Also yeah it would seem that advice was taken even before I got to see it myself. Hmm... yeah the work all of the people who helped out with the output is nothing short of impressive. I must say 2023's output of FRLG is going to be interesting considering that some will benefit from having some new moves available and others will suffer not having bubble beam or a Mimic that can copy moves. But yeah as mentioned in a previous comment, Round 2 is impossible for a large number of Pokémon to do solo on the basis you cannot use items. Even at level 100 with rest strats you will get walled or crushed by the sheer power Blue's team has at his disposal. He will always have: Alakazam, Heracross, and Tyranitar the strongest Rock type in gen 3. The only other variable depending on who you replaced, he will have Exeggutor, Gyarados, and or Arcanine which are absent in the starter he chooses. All of which are at the lowest 72 and 75 for the starter. R2 Blue has to date the strongest team composition for any rival you can rematch with what is available to the respective games. It is somewhat a blessing that they aren't holding any items.
Happy new year Scott! Nice to see this double-fighting type getting some love. A few people mentioned it already, by Sludge Bomb would really have improved your matchups against at least Karen and Blue, as it's Venomoth's most powerful move and Poison has solid neutral coverage, especially against physically frail mons such as Houndoom and Alakazam. Also, I think using swift against bugsy would have made your fight a lot easier, it does significantly more damage than confusion
I know I’ve commented this before, but I want to say once again how much I truly love your channel! I genuinely look forward to them! I specifically was very excited for this Venomoth in crystal vid. I was curious to know how a Dragon/Ice type would do in the Johto region. Also, I want to say that even though I’ve never paid for anyones patreon or anyone RUclips membership, but if I could I honestly would pay for yours. To be blatantly honest, I recently lost my job but when things get better for me I definitely plan on it. Happy new year!
Thank you so much for this positive comment! Made my day a little bit better. Sorry to hear about the job loss, I’m sending good vibes your way and hoping that you find a new one quick!
I'm so happy that Venonat and Venomoth are finally getting some love ❤️❤️❤️❤️ they have been my favorite pokemon since pokemon blue version way back in 1996 when I was 10yrs old lol.
I'm a bit sad that Yellow videos will only happen once a month now, cause they are my favourite playtroughs by far. But keep doing what you enjoy Scott, and have a great 2023 !
There will be more gen1 content. Streams and such. Plus there will be times during the year that the uploads are more frequent than once a week. In those case, expect lots of gen 1
scott, you might want to start using a damage calculator. neutral sludge bomb is stronger than neutral psychic on a target with equal defenses; even a low-damage-range sludge bomb is stronger than a high-damage-range psychic. even though venomoth's special attack is higher than its attack, same-type attack bonus does a lot, and it's venomoth's strongest move. having it over swift or return would have allowed for better damage ranges.
I do use a damage calculator. Honestly this video was put together REALLY quickly and I just overlooked sludge bomb in my tired + exhausted state after the December madness.
Nice vídeo bro! Happy new year 🎉🥳 since i found your channel this year I've been having so much fun with Pokemon. I wish you the best to you and your loved ones and i hope this new year goes as good as this last one!
Also, Clair is actually meant to reference a Dragon's Lair x3 which makes sense given how her Gym operates as a dungeon you have to progress through to reach her.
Great video Scott! In the first playthrough when you were fighting Red, I noticed you were still holding the Nevermeltice but you didn’t have HP Ice anymore. Holding the Pink Bow would’ve given better ranges with Return. Happy New Years!
Sludge Bomb could have really been the star of the playthrough. Venomoth being a Poison/Poison types means you got that double STAB right off the bat. Then of course there's the programing error which caused all of Venomoth's STAB attacks to do an extra 50% damage which would then become the inspiration for abilities in generation 3 and was pretty much Adaptability before it was even a thing.
Someone needs to make a ROM hack where Venomoth changes types in every battle to reflect its true majesty. If I had any coding abilities I’d make it but I can’t even manage a Hello World, let alone that!
Shawn, top dawg man! Your work is excellent and it’s been a pleasure to work alongside you and Scott this year, Happy New Year guys, and here is to 2023 🎉
I love how the game developers designed Venemoth to be the only Pokémon that has more type-changes than Castform. Like, it’s cool how they based Arceus off of this moth
I think you forgot about Rotom
It is only second to Armaldo!
Didn’t Arceus come from an egg? Who do you think laid that egg?
Food for thought
The egg existed before all, like in Greek myth or something
@@iantaakalla8180 At the beginning, there was only darkness and Venomoths spirit levitated above the waters...

I was just going to say this, glad to see someone else realized that too!
Glad to see this amazing Bird/Normal type get the recognition it deserves
I thought it was a Bird/??? type
Larry is a bird trainer in the Elite 4
"Bird" 🐦 bringing Missingno back in here lol
I thought it was bird/destiny type
It’s clearly pure cooltrainer type
Thanks to Scott and team for all the high quality content and entertainment and a Happy New Year 🥂
Happy new year!
I’m amazed you got through that dangerous hiker in the middle of the elite four with your 4x weak normal/ice venomoth. Truly a grand performance. Happy New Year Scott! Manifesting a million subs this year for you 🙏
I think it's pretty fascinating that they managed to make Venomoth the only quadruple-type Pokémon back in 1996. Truly innovative
Sean? Cion.

Even with the Pink bow, it’s only about base 112, which is still weaker than Sludge Bomb
@@sonnytapman Well, if Pink bow is allowed, then so is the poison barb.
@@KiranasOfRizon How does Sludge Bomb get stab if it's a Psychic/Flying type?)
Hidden protean mechanic only for Venomoth
Yup - big mistake not using it

Happy new year Scott! I hope you have a great new year and I genuinely want 2023 to be a year of growth and happiness for you and your fiancé 💖
This video is gonna be a piece of cake
Venomoth is the franchise's first psychic/fairy/bug/poison/fire/flying/normal/sound type!
Happy New Year to Scott and his team (and his fiancé).
Also if you ever get the chance, listen to Venomoth in Pokemon Puzzle League.
I've been watching your videos for about a year and playing since blue. It wasn't until this video I knew Venamoths type.
Boy, Venomoth really gave it the old college try. Excited to see Venemoth get its own video without having to evolve
I'm stoked for doduo, one of my favorites from gen 1.
Happy New Year to you and yours! Keep making some great content! :)
I think the final time belongs to the line. Venonat will be worst, Venomoth will be better. I’ll have to do all three scenarios to compare.
Ah, Pokemon Crystal and Venomoth. This reminds me so much of the shiny Venomoth I caught near the Lake of Rage which became a mainstay on my team.
Lucky, that’s a nice shiny too. Good find.
Looking forward to this run Scott! Keep up the great work and happy new year!
Bye!
Dang Scott with that 1000 iq against Falkner! No joke I thought u were gonna get stuck until I saw you had disable
I will say, you're delivery of "This pokemon is _______ type" is the same whether you're joking or not, so I question it every time lol. I love it!
Thanks Shawn! ❤️

Thank yous to your whole team. Wishing all of you the best in 2023.
Looking forward to the videos in 2023! Can't wait to see all the crazy runs.
9:20 - LETS GOOOO!!! THATS MEEE!!!! Thanks, Scott!!!!
You’re welcome! ;)
Thank you to everyone for helping put this incredible content together. Happy new year and looking forward to what comes next in 2023! 🎉❤
Thanks for another great vid. Happy New Year :)
Happy new year Scott! Keep up the tremendous work!
Happy new year Scott. May 100K come at year's end
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon thanks!
Not to mention that all of the types that resist poison (Steel, Rock, Ground, Poison, Ghost) are dealt with by HP ice and/or Psychic.
@@fishcatch22not steel lol
I do use a damage calculator. Honestly this video was put together REALLY quickly and I just overlooked sludge bomb in my tired + exhausted state after the December madness.
"the cowmaster"
That's a sick burn for her if you ever need one... dang.
Thanks to everyone who makes this amazing content possible, you all give me an extra thing to look forward to in the week! :)
Nice vídeo bro! Happy new year 🎉🥳 since i found your channel this year I've been having so much fun with Pokemon. I wish you the best to you and your loved ones and i hope this new year goes as good as this last one!
Happy new year! I’m so glad you’ve having so much fun with Pokémon. I am too!
This is such a cool video! You inspire me to make my own challenge runs to, thanks :)
That first fight with Red was going surprisingly well. Gosh darn it Charizard.
I know!
I thought the Venomoth meme was something that happened on an early stream, but the actual backstory is waaay better lol
Considering that Venomoth can be every type at once, it will only be weak to rock!
The run we've ALL been waiting for. Are you doing a run for each of its 324 types?
can’t wait to see my good pal Denis

Thanks Shawn and team! You’re the real mvps
I often forget to change my held item
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon it likely wouldn’t have made a difference though!
Take a shot 🍺 every time Scott says power in this video 😆
Someone needs to make a ROM hack where Venomoth changes types in every battle to reflect its true majesty. If I had any coding abilities I’d make it but I can’t even manage a Hello World, let alone that!
Shawn, top dawg man! Your work is excellent and it’s been a pleasure to work alongside you and Scott this year, Happy New Year guys, and here is to 2023 🎉
