IGN reviews can be hit or miss but this one was definitely a hit. Thoroughly explained the different aspects of the game while concisely laying out its flaws and balancing those against its positives. Also, just generally well-written 👏

There's so much effort put into these games man. They get an entire album and animated series that just happens to have a fighting game attached. I'm glad strive is putting the game out there more than these efforts are being more widely recognized

In this review, the reviewer mentioned there being no combo mode. I'm sure the developer mentioned in the early access showcase that there will be a combo maker. In this mode, players will be able to upload their own combos for other players to download and try to complete. So if you're the type of person into competing combo trials, instead of your basic 10 or 20; you will now have access to as many as you like.

The game also has 5 combos per character by default in the mission mode, which he probably has not found.

@@KhamStronk Five combos spread out through mission mode is not a combo mode, especially with how basic and simple the first three combos are (literally gatling combo, combo into special, combo into overdrive).
Between the art style & the great netcode, the hype is real.

I do! His videos were invaluable in getting me caught up through Xrd Sign, then I finished up by going through Rev 2 myself.

Shame they re-used old BGM for everything that isnt an actual fight.

@@AstonishingRed CAPCOM *is* still using the Darkstalkers characters and they don't need a different company to make a fighting game! They're CAPCOM! They started the entire genre! xD If a company wants to license CAPCOM characters they need to come up with an original idea, not another iteration of CAPCOM's idea.

The thing I’ve learned about fighting game is if you want a character to be added in the game before it comes out; DO NOT LET THE DEVS KNOW OR THEY WILL CUT IT FROM THE MAIN ROSTER AND WILL SELL IT TO YOU AS DLC
Well, to be fair, in this case they will probably save it for the inevitable Strive 2, which will be Strive +the stuff that was laking in this one+all the DLC+ a few new characters and exlusive DLC
These people are absolute animation-wizards! Its incredible that they got 3D models to animate just as insane as their 2D sprites!
Maybe the combo trials were removed because they'll put in the combo maker eventually.

+ GGS will probably age better than MK11 due to its style.

Great review Mr.Saltzman. Just like Spelunky 2, great video editing and gameplay examples throughout, with a focus on what matters to fans of fighting games that need better netcode and Guilty Gear fans. Even though I've personally never stepped into Guilty Gear this makes an attempt worth the learning curve. Plus Anime fighters are always known for complex non-sensical stories (both for canon and non-canon outings). That makes Strive one of the best fighting games out there and is a look at what Arc System Works can accomplish with the DLC characters, new fighting games, and sequels to the multitude of series they've worked out. Can you imagine what a Persona 5 Arena or new Blazblue game would look like with this level of graphical fidelity? I'm looking forward to the future of fighting games. Hope you are as well.

This is the best fighting game review IGN has ever made
No matter how much you lose look back at the replays of the games you played and see what can be improved. It will help you a lot by doing it on training mode to see which moves you have does better against other characters. With the help of mission mode as well.
There is somewhat of a combo mode called combo maker, they announced it in some video of theirs a few days ago. You can crop a combo out of a game that you played and upload it and basically everyone can download it and try to recreate the combo, which is just like a trial mode but even better because it's going to be limitless

How easy is it to pull off combos on a dpad?
SFV did the same thing kind of. They took away the importance of light attacks and the counter is like the crush counters.
Not sure how that helps anyone get into the game
