Yes folks, it's a long one! Nearly an hour and a half of calm swatching over the course of two autumnal days at the end of October. I've decided to do something different in this one and I've broken up the swatching with views of our garden, and later on, you can see the house and garden at dusk as I head out for a walk before it gets dark. This video is perfect to put on in the background while you work. Make yourself a hot drink (Green & Black's Hot Chocolate or Clipper Organic Tea with milk and one sugar for me!) and sit back, relax, and enjoy these beautiful colours. I'm swatching several different mediums from the October Art Haul including coloured pencils, watercolour pencils, Neocolor 1 & 2 wax pastels, gouache, acrylic gouache, paint markers, watercolour pens, graphite matt pencils, acrylic paint and acrylic ink.

If iam using my Acrylic gouache or high flow acrylics for anything, I add acrylic retarder to it. It extends the workable open time by triple! I used to buy the Golden acrylic retarder, until I learned how to make my own for much cheaper! I see way to many people on YT making their own by mixing distilled water and wayyyy to much Glycerin. Glycerin does work, but it actually works too well. If you add to much glycerin to acrylic paint, it will never cure properly. It doesn't allow the acrylic to form a film, then cure... it stays sticky... ATTRACTING DUST. Along with not drying, Glycerin will remain inside the paint, never dry... AND attracting bugs. Most acrylic retarders are made mostly of propylene Glycol, distilled water ( or deionized water, which is what I prefer to use ... its more pure than distilled) and the cheaper brands will add a bit of Glycerin. I mix up a 50/50 mix of propylene Glycol and deionized water... than I add some methocel to make a gel retarder. I also just put a 50/50 mix in liquid form in a squeeze bottle as well. So I have a gel retarder, and a fluid retarder. You can actually just use straight propylene glycol, without any water! And no matter how much you add... the acrylic will always dry and cure. Propylene glycol will even evaporate and work in freezing conditions! So never add Glycerin to acrylic paints... use propylene glycol. And if you aren't thrilled about making your own, just buy golden acrylic retarder. It's a game changer for acrylic gouache. Propylene glycol will also work as a retartder with watercolors and regular gouache too. Well, I hope you try this out and have a wonderful day 😊

@@sinikka9434 hi, I am German, too. And I find Kremer is also very pricy to be delivered within Germany. Nevertheless it is worth it! And I am really really happy that Jackson’s have reduced their delivery costs for us again, so we are able to enjoy brands like Roman Szmall again without massive shipping costs. Unfortunatley all custom fees are soooo expensive. It was so great before Brexit….🤷‍♂️, and it’s really a shame that you have to pay those also for deliveries under 20 Euros as it was before July 2021. (ok, I must admit that I rarely stay under 20 Euros🙈). Nevertheless I love buying from Jackson’s. Especially their customer service is so fanatic what I had to learn after a parcel was hold (or better got lost) by customs for almost three months, although all fees were paid in advance.

I really feel like you would fall in love with Faber Castell pitt markers (the two green brush ones you swatched) but in their calligraphy line. They have an amazing tip that can deliver very sharp lines, but can also make broad strokes which can be very useful in your art style. I personally prefer them to the brush ones (which is extremely unusual for me), and I absolutely love the white color in the calligraphy line. Perfect for semi-transparent overlay strokes that add a lovely texture

I love a good swatching session, and with all those beautiful greens! 💚
The neocolors are just amazing. I like that you can have the right color ready to use and so richly pigmented.
If you loved the Pitt Graphite from FC, I would highly recommend to give a go to the Staedtler Mars Lumpagraph Black pencils. They are just the deepest, blackest black I've ever seen in a pencil. I use them all the time in my illustrations.
Also, speaking of pencils, Derwent has a beautiful line of pencils called "tinted charcoals". They are basically charcoal pencils, but with color pigments in it, and they have 24 really natural, desaturated colors as for the Drawing line. I think they may be the kind of neutral you may like. I own a few of the warmer colors: Sunset Pink, Sand and Burnt Orange, and then a cold Ocean Deep. Really nice ones. I wish they had the same shades in regular colored pencils too.
Last but not least, I'm really impressed by the Tri-Art Sludge acrylic paints, I hope to see they in Italy in a near future.
I'm always glad to know when I can do something to help avoid some waste or reduce pollution, and now even choosing an art supply (and plus, with gorgeous natural colors which are otherwise hard to mix every time! You never get the same one you did before, don't you?)
So thank you for sharing this new product.
As always that was super-interesting and relaxing as well.
I would be really interested in a video about all your acrylics and in acrylic inks.
Hope you are feeling better and sending a big hug 💚

I love a good swatching session...and wow, no wonder you were hearing things because the house looks positively ancient! Around the 57 minute mark, during or just after the unexplained racket in the hall, I noticed that my heart rate had increased a little, lol. But imagine--all the deaths that must have happened there over the many years!--it is probably really a ghost. Are those your ancestral halls? So gorgeous, and so utterly haunted-looking. I don't know, maybe this video was in honor of Halloween? Anyway, thanks so much for the awesome content!

Hi Valerie! The odd sounds were genuine and totally unexpected while I was filming! We've had quite a few paranormal experiences in the house, which belongs to my fiancé's family. It was built between 1898-1901, so it's old but not super old like a lot of the buildings here in the UK!

I was watching while doing some other things, but I was watching and sometimes I’d miss something and then have to go back or look something up on the web. So many colors I want to make note of. And thanks so much for the quick outdoors view and a peek at your beautiful home! What a “treat!” (A bit of Halloween humor…just a bit.)

Love!!! Thank you so much! I love a long swatching section/video!
I was on the fence about the shin Han gouache paints but now I’m going to try them. Also, I would like to recommend you the Molotow water brush, my favorite is the size 3mm but also like the flat one. They hold tons of water. I use distilled water so they don’t get cloudy.
Thank you again for a wonderful and entertaining video!

Thank you for the video, Usually love the Haul videos but skip on the swatching ones one they tend to be for the same supplies for which there are already 15 vids! However, your selection of supplies tends to be quite unique so I watch as long as they take. I find myself populating my wish list after every one of your videos… 🙄😬🥴

A little hint for the FW inks -- you can buy stainless nail polish agitator balls from Amazon, and if you drop three or four in your inks, it makes shaking them up when they settle SO much easier. Gets all that thick pigment off the bottom like a charm. (Just make sure they're the *stainless steel* ones, and not the regular ones, or they'll rust and ruin your inks. Learned that one the hard way. :D). I think they run around $5USD for a couple hundred of them, so they're not expensive at all, either. Hope that helps!

Definitly love a long swatching session video!!,but it's lovely to hear your reasons for choosing colours and how you'll use them in your work, and it's like going a voyage of creative discovery along side you. You say you want to get a waterbrush to take on outdoor trips. I have tried several and learned not all water brushes are created equal! some release too much water, others you really have to squeeze hard, which can be taxing n your fingers, others leak as you use them, but one I have come to love is by Caran d ache,it's their aquaflow waterbrush,it dosen't leak,is nice to hold is weighted really well, but what I really like on the barrel on two sides are buttons and you use these to get the water out into the brush tip, it gives you more control, and is not taxing on the finger tips,it's now the one I use the most, they come in several tip sizes, and you can get them in sets or singular, reasonably priced, definiltly reccommend trying this as part of your travel art kit.
I'm glad you love the Shinhan paints, the pigmentatation is really rich and I love the hybrid paints, they are so versatile and layer really well and are perfect for mixed meia pieces. I have ordered a set of the pitt matt graphite pencils,as I don't like the shine of graphite either. The garden is really looking lovely as the leaves turn,do you think you would ever create a piece of art based on your garden?. and lovely to see the whole house too,an amazing building. I like the ethos of the Try/sludge paint, being made from recycled waste pigments,so am going to try these asbwell, that dark teal is lovely a very Natasha colour!!!. Lyra do make really good quality materials I love their aquacolour crayons. Maybe try the kremer grey water colour set you have with the lyra grey pencil set,I think they would be a good combination.Something else you may like, are viva color watercolour sheets, I discovred these last year as part of an inktober bundle, and love them, they are a great travel kit supply and the colours are so rich, they do sets and refills too. But have to say I recently got their mettalics set and oh my!!! so stunning jewel like colours some of which have colourshift properties, they are some of the most stunning metallic waterccolours I have used, they layer over other colours and on blackpaper are astounding. But their regular colours are also really amazing and they smell amazing too. I think the reason we love your videos so much is because they feel like we are in the studio with you, looking over your shoulder and that is really lovely,it's like engaging with a favourite artist friend espcially in videos like this one.
P.s I jus completed "Inktober" and loved it and will start "Huevember" next!! Hope you and Dominic are both doing okay. have a good week both of you.

I'm in love with the Tri Art dark teal sludge - what a colour! Great idea to combine the Kremer Greys palette with the Lyra pencil set too. Good luck for Huevember - I hope you find it really inspiring to do! :)

I love a good swatching session! The sludge really intrigues me, I'd love to see how broad the colour variance is between the batches. I'm very interested in those acrylic inks, too.
I only have one lightfast pencil that I got as a free sample. It's in violet, not a colour I tend to use, so other than swatching it I haven't really used it. Your growing collection of yummy green colours is making me want to try some more from the range, though.
I'm already a big fan of Derwent's inktense range, which also features some lovely greens, and I recently got their inktense paints, which act like higly pigmented watercolour, but can also be layered without washing out previous layers (similar to the pass paint, but in pans). I love them, especially the shade Dark Plum, which is my current skeletal tree shade of choice.
