- Hi all! Trying out a different format to share with you all on RUclips today! I filmed this real-time and chatted away as I painted, sharing how I layer lots of different mixed media and how I create texture in my work. I hope you enjoy it and let me know what you think! I love watching you in real time!!! Thank you Katie, and as usual, I love your work!
Thank you so much!! I really appreciate that 🥰❤️
I’m glad there’s other impatient artists out there. I can’t stand waiting, especially for stuff like the seemingly endless masking fluid dry time for watercolors.
Oh 100%!! I think it's why I dislike watercolours so much - I just don't want to have build up colours and shading slowly 😆
You’ve taught me so many things, my favorites are how to edit landscapes and use my own colors. I can’t believe I enjoy landscapes so much more now. Thank you also for showing us your art work that isn’t your favorite which makes me feel better about my paintings that don’t come out how I intended. Oh and also loveddd the reference book videos. Please do more of those! You are so special. ❤❤❤
Oh this was a really wonderful to comment to read, thank you so very much 💜 I truly appreciate and I'm so happy to have taught and inspired you! 🥰
What is that large green “paint pen” you used at the 10:11 minute part of the video? Its got a wide applicator.
It's a Montana acrylic marker in the 15mm nib size! This colour I created myself using their refill inks but they do some shades in this size ready mixed 😊
I really enjoyed this video 🥰
Oh I'm so glad, thank you for watching! 🥰
This was awesome to watch. Thanks for sharing the process and your confidence!
Oh thank you so much, so glad you enjoyed it! 😊
The way you approach the piece so freely is so inspiring. I always try to put down a basic sketch, but I'm working towards being sketch free 😊
Oh thank you so much! I found I really loosened up and found my way when I stopped worrying so much about sketching first 🥰 I hope you find that freedom too! 💖
I enjoy coming back to this one. It's nice to watch you go through your process and create something beautiful out of a blank page. Love to watch you work, Katie. So inspiring.
Aaah thanks so much Lisa, that's so lovely of you 🥰 It's my pleasure to be able to share it! 💜
Inspiring video. I learned so much. And beautiful art work (as always)! 😊
So glad to hear that you've learnt from this video! Thank you so much for watching 🥰
Wonderful! Loved and subscribed!
Thank you so much! 😄🥰
thank you, very interesting
You're welcome! Glad you like it! 🤗
This was a fabulous watch - so inspiring how you created these nasturtiums
Thank you so much Ohn Mar 🥰
Gorgeous, vibrant nasturtiums. It’s a pleasure watching you work and your explanations are really useful for this beginner.
Oh I'm so glad to hear you find my explanations useful! Thank you so much 🧡
Stunning work! At the beginning I kept saying “trust the process”. I’m so glad I found your channel because I too hate sketching first and I’ve judged myself badly for it. Your videos have helped me realize I need to use more layers.
Thank you so much, Trinec! I find that moving past the 'messy middle' is the hardest part of art, but definitely worth pushing through and applying more layers and details -- they make the world of difference! 😊
Lovely and lively!❤️
Thank you! 🥰
I love the freedom in this piece. Warm greetings from Poland.
Thank you so very much! 😊💜
Hi Katie! Thank you for your videos. I am hesitating between Intense blocks and Neocolor2. Would you have any recommandations?
Hello, thank you for watching!! They are quite different because the Neocolors feel a bit more waxy. I like to use them mostly dry, whereas the Inktense blocks I only use wet! So I guess it depends how you'd like to use them - as a base layer or as a drawing tool? I know you can buy them individually so I always recommend trying them out like that first to see what you prefer before buying a full set! 😊
Thank you for you detailed answer@@KatieMoody it is really helping. I will buy 2 colors of Neocolor2 and 2 colors of Inktense to try and see what each brings to my drawing practise. Wise advice for a beginner as I am, thanks again!
Thank you soooo much, very informative 🤗
So glad it was helpful 🥰
Lovely !!
Thank you! 😊
...so im really going to stop now...😅 tfs Katie 🧡
I loved this painting when I saw it on Instagram and am thrilled to see your process making it. Now I want to try all these materials!
Thank you Patti! The problem with being a mixed media artist is that the art supply wish list is LONG! 😂
Very informative, thanks for sharing!
Thank you, I'm glad it was useful! 😄
I watched the short first and knew that this was a video I would love…and I did! Fascinating to see how you layer media.
Oh yay I'm so glad you did! Thank you for watching 🥰
Beautiful! Loved watching you create in real time, mixed media is my fav way of working at the moment so this was so inspiring and helped me realise its fine to jump around with different materials and layers, thank you ❤
I'm so happy to hear that! It's so true - I honestly think there are no rules and no set order when it comes to mixed media, just go with where it takes you! 🥰
Your ability to just dive in to putting colour down is so brave and inspiring! Thanks for sharing this! You've inspired me to try loosening up a bit more and layer up instead of being so tight and pre-planned
Thank you so much Laura, that is so wonderful to hear! I think a lot of it is just practice and a bit of just wanting to go for it that overrides any nerves I may have I've also been trying to undo the thoughts of ever making art that's 'wrong', so that mindset helps a lot. As long as you're making marks then you're doing it right! 😄💜
Oh long video to watch while working. I really love your style, it's so lively and joyful!
Thank you so much!! 🥰
Thanks for showing is this. So inspiring to see how you freely use all of the materials!
So glad you enjoyed it 🥰 thank you for watching and commenting!
Very nice video, thank you for the process
Thank you so much! 😊
great ideas, thanks for sharing !!
Thanks for watching! 🥰
artists def need to learn to trust the process. things will come together in the end😀 the blue is a great touch!
Exactly that! Definitely a lesson that I think we can all learn from because art can change so quickly with just a few marks! 😃
This was lovely to create alongside with - every time I looked back up it looked like an entirely different piece, which was amazing to watch! 🥰
Aw I'm so happy to read that Sian! Thank you for creating alongside me 🥰
I really enjoyed watching this! The finished painting communicates joy to me...
Thank you so much for watching 🥰 So glad you like the finished painting!
this was awesome! i love the pop of colors at the end!!! wow!
Thank you so much! I thought it really finished it off nicely 🥰
Very nice! Good job!
Thanks so much! 😊
Really interesting seeing your process and how you create a mixed media piece! Really love your art and your videos are so inspiring 😄✨
Aw thank you so much!! 💛
Another stunner!
Thank you so much 🥰
The blue neocolor near the end really sealed the deal. That was a beautiful touch
Thank you so much! It really felt like it came to life after I added that in ☺️
I recently came across your channel... Just thought I’d let you know that this video was super inspiring and helped me create a piece in my sketchbook in a way that I never have before. Absolutely loved this Katie! Love seeing how you bounce around the page to get the fun energy showing in your artwork. Well done!!! cheers!
Thank you so much, Jaclyn! I hadn't even realised that was part of my process but you're so right! I love the idea of bouncing round the page 😄
You definitely know how to have fun with art and still come out with something great...love it ❤️
Such a compliment!! Thank you 🥰
Hi Katie, What is the size of the Molotov markers you're using?
They are the broad 15mm nib 😊
Lovely ❤❤❤
Thank you 🥰🧡🧡
SO inspiring. Wow!
Aw I'm so glad! Thank you so much 🥰
🏵🏵🌸🌸🐈⬛🐈⬛🌷🌷🌻🌻
What shade is the blue oil pastel at the end Katie? ☺️
Hi Nicola! It's the Sennelier pale blue no.6 🤗
Thank you for this!!!
My pleasure! Thank you for watching! 🤗
I'm curious...have you tried Karin brushmarker pros?
Ooh no I haven't - I've not heard of that brand before! Do you recommend them?
Yes! They are brush pens but they're filled with watercolor paint. The tips are much firmer than ecolines I'm told but they are waay juicier than Tombows and blend better. They are available in 60+ colors...plus neon that are super fun (I'm thinking you'd like the green neons) I enjoy using them and thought you might too!
Hi Katie, I recently purchased some soft pastels for an upcoming class I'm taking soon. I haven't used them yet.. Curious if you've ever used soft/pan pastels similar to what you did here with the Inktense blocks. I want to use what I have on hand and really like the effect you had with the block, but I don't own any yet, so thought maybe I could achieve same with soft pastels that are wetted as an underpainting.
Hi Lourdes! I've used pan pastels as a dry base before (you can see it in this video from 11:20 ruclips.net/video/aRoIqjPMIXA/видео.htmlsi=RZrHTANXHRXTXtuo&t=680) and then worked on top, and I also often use them on top of brush pen layers for landscapes (which you can see in this post on IG! instagram.com/p/Co7h1xKtlpC/?img_index=1). I haven't used my soft stick pastels much but I think it would work in a similar way as using it to the pan pastels applied in these examples but with more texture! I don't know how they'd react with water but it could be a fun experiment and I reckon would work in a similar way to this video! 😊
@@KatieMoody thank you for that response! I did try laying down some soft pastels as an under painting earlier this week and then added gouache, then and pencil then Neocolor as layers on top. It actually did pretty well with the wetting of the soft pastels.
@@lourdeswinter9856 Ahh perfect! I feel like there's so many combinations with mixed media and it's always fun to test them out 😄😄
