    Extremely helpful. I'm 34 and I'm planning on learning how to ice skate. I've tried a bit of inline skating but never ice skating. I've always wanted to skate and maybe learn hockey. Grew up playing football, baseball and street basketball. I really wish I could have traded my football gear in for hockey gear growing up. Oh well never too late to learn.

    Realistically if this is your first hour ever on skates you will barely move from the wall - concentrate on having your kness bent and weight slightly forward 101 in not falling too much. To get better - have same distance between knees and ankles - aim is that your ankles are not bent in an angle, but more straight below you when you are gliding forward - will really help you lengthen your slide 😉 Good luck!

    Yesterday was my first time skating. I really DID not know how to stop, so I created a method in which I circled in a small area till I was stable (this caused me to fall at least 4 times)..but the good thing is I was off the walls after just 20 minutes of experimenting. The only way to become better is by continuing to skate, so I plan on paying my 15$ at least twice a month in hopes of becoming a better skater!

    I hope the extra tips would make learning better.
    I’m 28 and started my first ever ice skating lesson today starting with posture. I felt awkward wearing hands & elbows guards but yeah safety first.
    It was not smooth 😂😂😂 the coach makes it look effortless but damn those swizzles, slaloms, even a basic break are hard! 😂😂😂 left leg pushing in that 2-foot glide is .. BUT, i am excited to practice and see how I am after a month.
    I am legit scared of getting hurt and trying to overcome this cause you can’t do a thing in that case lol

    • @IceCoachOnline

      Sometimes it can be down to personal preference. If you can comfortably put your weight into one foot and keep your balance then dragging your foot behind you will not be too difficult. If you are not very comfortable on one foot then perhaps the snowplough stop would be better.

    I remember when I was a kid and the person who was teaching how to skate and do the 't-stop', but she taught us that you have to lift your other foot and place it in front of your other foot to stop, but of course that wasn't right and if you did that you'd fall.

    • @IceCoachOnline
      @IceCoachOnline  6 лет назад +2

      Roosa Saarela the stop you are referring to is one that is sometimes referred to as a “show stop”. It’s a much higher level stop and lower level skaters generally find it quite hard. It looks really cool when you master it!

    • @IceCoachOnline

      Yes, and in some places it is a requirement. However in the UK it is not a requirement and more often than not nobody wears any (which I can't say I agree with, and even ice rinks don't offer any). The video was aimed at people putting skates on and getting on the ice without any training or any protective gear.

    Hello, what ice skates would you recommend for beginners?

    • @IceCoachOnline
      @IceCoachOnline  4 года назад +1

      Which country are you based in? Different brands are easier to get in different countries.. Most companies offer a good beginner boot that comes with a basic blade attached, which is normally very good for people wanting to try out something better than a rental without breaking the bank!

    That's not how you get up from the ice!!
    Sit on your butt, put both hands on the ice left and right, push yourself up and simultaneously pull both your skates underneath you. Then almost all at once lift your hands from the ice, push yourself up from the ice with your legs and 3 turn or spin yourself into a final backwards glide.

      @@Dray12321 actually the ice can have many sharp edges created from people skating on it. Some people have sliced their hands open catching themselves from a fall

    So is ice skating similar to roller skating

    • @Cristty004
      @Cristty004 6 лет назад +6

      waih no but they both depend greatly on your balance if you know how to rollerblade you already got down your balance form which will help you skate on ice much easier.

    I'm just gonna watch "ice skating for beginners" videos so I can take notes on hat to do when I actually do it. Although the result may be falling on my face, never know though

    I went ice skating today and it was utterly horrible. I couldn't balance at all. I give up. I don't think I'm going outside again. Each time, I fall on the same area, my butt and elbow. Nearly fucking shattered it. And my posture is jacked up too. thanks for nothing my peer pressuring uncle.

    A T stop isn’t really easy for beginners (balance on one foot + use outside edge of other foot the stop), I’d say try the pizza point first

    My coach says not to hold on to the wall or the boarder

    • @IceCoachOnline
      @IceCoachOnline  6 лет назад +3

      Your coach is correct! If you are taking lessons and learning to skate you should avoid holding on. However, the video takes into account complete beginners who are perhaps visiting the ice rink for the first time and may not have supervision. For this reason we take a safety first approach when giving the advice.
