I want to try ice skating so bad, I literally spend HOURS daydreaming about it and watching videos from years back and now of kids and adults doing their performances 😭
i like how you explained how best to fall. knowing that falling isn’t a bad thing stops you from fearing it and as soon as you lose that fear you gain so much confidence
Is actually suggest finding somewhere quiet and practicing falling as suggested. It will quickly teach you that it doesn't have to be bad or painful. It's like when learning to juggle it's a good idea to deliberately throw the ball up and let it hit the floor. Do that whenever you get really frustrated and it will remind you that it isn't bad at all.

Today was my first time on the ice and thanks to this video and the video about how to snowplow stop, I didn't fall once! I was able to balance and skate 3 times around the rink without holding on to the wall too much. Thanks Coach Julia!
I've been wanting to learn to ice skate ever since I became a fan of yuzuru 2 years ago. The city where I lived at before didn't have an ice rink. Now that I moved to a bigger city a few months ago for college, I'm finally getting the chance to skate for the first time tomorrow! I feel more prepared after watching this video. Thank you!
@@CoachJulia It was hard but very fun at the same time!! I had to use the polar bear thing you push for support because they didn't have an instructor available earlier. I'm still wobbly but I was able to skate on my own and lift my other leg like in your video for a while without support. I will definitely come back soon to learn more 😊
Among other channel who teach about skating, you are the best. You explain the basic concept clearly that people could easily understand. And those concept (Forward Swizzle, Forward Stroking, Backward Swizzle, etc, I just watched your other videos too) are so complete that beginner could remember. All is perfect. 😅 But, I couldn't follow your tutorial. I could only move forward a little and know how to stand up after fall. It quite easy to get momentum and keep stabilize, using your suggestion, magic table. Hehe. I try it and it work. It might get people attention because I keep my hand in front of me like you do. 🤭 But I am struggling to stand up with only 1 foot. It seems like I couldn't make a pivot on my shoes, it kind of lean left or right, even if I tie it up tightly And also, I failed to perform dip shape. It seems like the shoes too high and prevent me to lean my foot in order to do dip. 😭
All the beginners videos are great although they miss out how to stop! Thanks for a great video. I'm 50 and booked to skate at 1pm today. I have a fear that I want to conquer
@@CoachJulia thank you. I realised I don't need to stop yet! I did my first session on Thursday with a snowman. Will I ever be able to let go? So much appreciate your work 🌟
Thank you for this! I’ve been dreaming of learning to ice skate for years. I’m in my mid-20’s and I’m fairly active/healthy because I cross train with a lot of different activites and exercises but I’ve struggled with skating so much. Makes me scared like no other thing has before haha! Falling and the speed scare me. But my goal this year is to go to some public skate sessions and learn to be less fearful on the ice and do some self-teach RUclips lessons. Then, when I find time, take some adult beginner skating lessons at my local rink! Excited to watch more of your videos ❤
Thank you for helpful video , so I just turned 49 today and it's a Christmas event with a rink , and maybe it's too late . But I'm gonna give it a go. Thanks for the safety tips , hopefully won't be too bruised !
@@CoachJulia ha 😀 I followed your instructions and did good ! I was trying to help my partner Ben and he was just moving backwards and forwards sliding holding on to side 😂, I fell trying to help him 😂 serves me right , I was fine as landed well near the wall . The magic table top worked , and I managed myself to get out in the rink and go round , before lapping Ben lol 😂 . I might go for lessons, when our lockdown ends . Thanks again 👍
I wish you were my coach! I started ice skating for the first time, been taking weekly classes and my coach moves too fast for me. Thank you so much! I took my 1st lesson today , fell , got up and tried to do better.Your video really explained how to use balance ( FYI I am a dancer) vs just focusing on falling!
What great feedback! Thank you! Congrats on your first lesson and welcome to the ice!
Thats great 👍
My university just reopened the rink and I’m getting my own gears to get in the rink for the first time in my life. It’s pretty scary but this video is calming me down a little
Thanks Julia for your help!.I am in my 40's and recently started mini skating course with my 11 years old daughter.
I have to say that your videos are very helpful ☺️
Wonderful! Good for you for getting started with skating!
Thank so much
Have fun out there!
i love ice skating even though iv only tried it once which was recently and i can’t stop thinking about it
Your video is so helpful
Glad you think so!
I tried first time last week and can only walk on it😂 I hope watch this first!
Great! I have subscribed and ordered a pair of skate, will try this summer. Thanks!
Welcome aboard!
I like the magic table. Very helpful for my friend
Glad you like it
Glad I found this I skated as a kid and teen then have a thirty five years gap now I want to skate to again thanks a lot 💞🌹🕊️
You can do it!
thank you so much 😊 i’ve been learning to ice skate recently and bought my own skates and been going every week but it feels like i’ve had no progress and just can’t stop holding onto the wall, and everyone is so much better than me. i’m going to try everything in this video and hopefully i’ll improve some day it’s been really un motivating not progressing when i’ve been at the rink multiple times. 😅 you make it look so easy!
edit: i’ve actually progressed a lot from when i commented this which was only two weeks ago! i’m able to skate without holding onto wall! and it actually isn’t that difficult i think fear was just holding me back. seems like after i wrote the comment the next day i progressed so randomly
Congratulations!! Very happy for you
I'm at the stage of your first paragraph. I feel I'm not making progress. Can't let go of the wall and i went several times now.
Excellent presentation and clear vocal technique...so many RUclipsrs speak too fast!
I appreciate that!
I am beginner in ice skating. I see many videos before yours. But this is different. Thank you so much.
Happy to help!
Today was my first time on the ice and thanks to this video and the video about how to snowplow stop, I didn't fall once! I was able to balance and skate 3 times around the rink without holding on to the wall too much. Thanks Coach Julia!
WOW, that is so exciting! Good for you!
Thank you!
Oh yay! I am so glad you are finally getting to fulfill that skating dream.
😅
But,
I couldn't follow your tutorial.
I could only move forward a little and know how to stand up after fall.
It quite easy to get momentum and keep stabilize, using your suggestion, magic table. Hehe.
I try it and it work.
It might get people attention because I keep my hand in front of me like you do.
🤭
But I am struggling to stand up with only 1 foot.
It seems like I couldn't make a pivot on my shoes, it kind of lean left or right, even if I tie it up tightly
And also, I failed to perform dip shape. It seems like the shoes too high and prevent me to lean my foot in order to do dip.
😭
I got my ice skates their coming on the 21 first and I can’t wait to skate this is the reason why I’m watching this😌😌😌😌😌
Thank you for your teaching. 😊
For the first time I tried to skate today. Now for next time I will use your teaching. Thanks a lot. 😊
You can do it!
All the beginners videos are great although they miss out how to stop! Thanks for a great video. I'm 50 and booked to skate at 1pm today. I have a fear that I want to conquer
I do have quite a few stopping tutorials posted! There is a whole playlist of stopping tutorials. Start with the 'snowplow stop'.
@@CoachJulia thank you. I realised I don't need to stop yet! I did my first session on Thursday with a snowman. Will I ever be able to let go? So much appreciate your work 🌟
I'm 22 and want to learn ice skating. I am looking forward to try these tips as soon as I can
You can do it!
omg the girl's reflection at 4:02!! if you look at the reflection in the glass you can see a girl doing a turn and she's amazing.
Oh yeah, she was doing a flying camel/catch camel/ tuck spin. Beautiful.
Wow so much help for beginner, thanks
Glad to hear that!
My dream activities since I was a child.. new subsciber here❤❤
Welcome to the community!
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for helpful video , so I just turned 49 today and it's a Christmas event with a rink , and maybe it's too late . But I'm gonna give it a go. When I was little girl I really wanted to do figure skating, alas my town didn't open a rink until I was in my twenties . By that time was doing other things . Thanks for the safety tips , hopefully won't be too bruised !
Oh my gosh, I am so excited for you to give it a try. I hope you have a wonderful experience!
Thanks again 👍
how did you do??
Thank you coach. Great job.
Glad you enjoyed it!
You are sooo nice. Thank you. I am going to watch much more of your videos in the future.
Awe thank you. I hope you find them helpful.
I wish you were my coach! I started ice skating for the first time, been taking weekly classes and my coach moves too fast for me. My 2nd class she wanted to start doing swizzles and even some spins but I'm over here still trying to just skate forward. Its pretty discouraging, but I'm gonna try to go to an open skate session and using this video as a guide. Thank you!
I just went ice skating today and I am definitely going to use these tricks next time
I hope they help you!
This tutorial is the only reason my friend and I were able to get gliding while all the other newbies around were struggling to get on the ice
Awe, I am so glad I could help you have a good time.
hard to believe this is for first-time skater. I'll definitely try this routine. Thx for sharing.
I hope you find it helpful!!
