  • In this video I build version 1 of my bike rack. Next time I would move it a bit further from the car so the trunk will open with the bike on it, and possibly use wheel clamps to hold the bike instead of a frame clamp.

Nice work, you could clamp the straps on by welding a small piece of steel on the back side of the angle iron. And add some of the pipe insulation down near the sprocket. Buying or build an anti rattle hitch mechanism. An anti rattle that work like the handle bars in the neck of a bicycle seems pretty cool and functional to me. I like your simple design.

Thanks, the straps have been pretty easy to use, I haven’t changed much on it.

Perhaps the 45 degree angle could be on the passenger side , then the chain wheel would be facing away from the upright piece for clamping onto the top tube.

Nice work. You might consider drilling a couple of holes in the angle iron, in case it rains and it doesn't drain perfectly.
How heavy was the total assembly, did you ever weigh it?

Ha I did drill a hole in it for that purpose! No I haven't weighed it but I could if needed. Probably less than 25 lbs.

    Harbor freight... 30 bucks ..

That's a good cheap option. I didn't want to hang my bike from the frame tube.

The amount of time of Trigonometry makes my head hurt. 2 Simple 45-degree welds in lieu of hours of welding and grinding is not practical. I can't see cutting a dozen cuts and welding a glob wire and then having to grind it into nothing but a waste of material and time. Walmart bike rack $50 .

@@MotherlodeMotors & you think your 45 degree cut tube cut up so much & welding is going to be any stronger then a harbor freight rack???
