    Poor guys, never heard of workbench and vice :-) Large-ish workbench on lockable casters, with thick-ish steel top for welding, assembly and overall not-working-on-your-knees-for-a-change is what this workshop needs :-D

    get more use from it by attaching the front wheel holder with a pin. You can have a fat bike width or road bike width by switching it out. The front wheel holder also pins in your garage to store your bike and comes with the bike you choose for that ride.

    Cool bike rack and all, but I can't help but think a 2 inch hitch receiver rack would have been a lot cheaper and more practical. Like the Thule T2 Pro XT or the Kuat NV 2.0. They can take e -bikes, fat bikes, road bikes, and up to 4 of them for like $1000.

    Blake. Just get a damn shingle back off-road rack. I know it means you have to take the rack off to fully open the boot, but if you have one with a full open then like a just the window opens option then you can still access the boot through the window/door thing. Plus they are street legal. Look em up

    • @stuarthay3369
      @stuarthay3369 3 года назад

      No can do. Martin built this from scratch and he even had to step back and think about that wee problem. Can’t put a rear wheel brace on because it won’t hinge from the tree. Locking up the front brake is ok because the swing out in open position is only for a short period of time.
      Well done Martin. Monster build mate ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

    All these questions like , what about the fat bike, jump bike and what about the number plate? The other bikes can still go on the roof and in the jeep. And as for the plate it can be moved with a number plate light rerouted easily. These are just teething problems. Overall this build is epic and I'm a mechanic and fabricator who would be proud of this. #blakebuildsforthewin

    Don't forget the visibility of the license plate and the rear lights....
    And I think Blake needs a #movable #spotlight on top of the rack for some light in dark conditions.
    I do not know the rules in your country, but with protruding objects you need to attach a red / white striped plate on the back (a red #handkerchief or even better a #GMBN #tshirt) for extra attention value of protruding objects.

    As a bike rack engineer, it's going to be a pain in the arse to get a bike in and out with the upper wheel holder so tall. I'll echo the other comments regarding the lower wheel straps/brackets, having to undo the straps to access the rear of the vehicle is going to prove to be pretty annoying. I do have to say the idea to strap the front brake to hold the bikes in position is pretty clever. And it looks freaking bomb proof! Your next version of the rack is goin to be way better!

    Love this vid! Really cool to see you guys come up with such an awesome rack from scratch. Just curious though, any way you could weld another horizontal tubular bar to the bottom of the vertical piece? You’d have to do a swivel like for the above bar but I’m sure there’s a way. Then you wouldn’t have that swinging bike problem when opening your Jeep door. Also you wouldn’t have to unlock the rear tire every time you wanted to get inside. Feel like that would be annoying.
